Quote:The fix:The chat window is messed up where it won't save any of my settings and constantly clears itself when I zone and, even when they're on, the only place I see anyone speaking is in Agatha (sp - whatever) looking for end game dungeon groups.
Quote:Here is how to do it very specifically, so you don't have to do anything at all....

Or you could write a couple of scripts that keep you in your custom channels.
1) Go to your Program Files>Funcom>The Secret World>Scripts folder.
2) Create two files called auto_login and auto_teleport in notepad.
3) Enter your channel commands to each like so:
/delay 5000
/chat join CoH-OOC
/chat join CoH-IC
/chat join CoH-Refugees
/chat join JustMyFriendsChannel
/chat join OOC
/chat join IC
They may not be CoH-specific, but that means there are more people on them usually.
Quote:To tie into an earlier conversation, I went Shotgun/Blood pretty much at random (I liked the 'real life' idea of a shotgun without knowing the game mechanics and found a Blood focus early on). My build mainly centers around the Weakness/Penetration synergies between the two but I don't know the skill names well enough to define it right now.

It gives you an idea as to what to expect the roles of each weapon to be.
Also good for new players is this thread with a lot of tips for getting more out of the game:

Quote:Well, the forums haven't logged me out in over two weeks. That is a heck of a lot more friendly than these forums...Going to see if I can influence the forum managers over there to make forums more friendly to the likes of us.
Though I could wish that we could use our own avatar images. -
Sign up thread was neglected due to other concerns.

Quote:Door missions are mostly solo instances (with a few exceptions). The dungeons are team-oriented. The rest of the missions can be taken/shared among the team. Most missions are outdoorish and lead to the next mission and so on.Do people team in this game? I messed around with free account and didn't experience any. Wondering if the mobs scale up like in CoH. Don't see how as everything I've done is outdoorish street sweeping and not door missions like we have in CoH.
The door missions like CoH seem to be closest to the dungeons (possibly Lairs, but I haven't tried those).
Note that almost all missions can be repeated by a single character (seems Investigation missions and the main story can't though). -
I think so.
September (My billing day is the 7th)
October
November
December (Bonus month starting Dec 7th)
January (Bonus month #2 starting Jan 7th)
They gave me 5 months at a yearly rate ($10.99), so it was approximately right. It might be off a tiny bit bit off, but due to exchange, etc. it was a bit lower than 1/3 of what I paid (in Canadian funds) for 5/14 months service remaining. Probably a couple dollars off, but the exchange rate is different too.
It is close enough that I'm not going to complain. -
Well, I just checked my credit card balance, and I got just got my refund (no emails though).
I renewed my account December 7, 2011 under the 12+2 plan, so my account would have expired in February 2013. I got approximately 5 months at $10.99 back. -
Quote:Gmail comes up with "Hooray, no spam here!". Also I have 2 different email accounts as far as support goes and neither have had anything sent to them.Have you checked your spam folder? On my one account I get NCSoft emails all the time and another of my accounts it's hit or miss. Which is wierd because both accounts use the same email address.
Edit:
Checked the spam filters on the web versions of both email providers as well for any trace of spam. Nothing.
Edit 2:
The last web mailing I got from NCsoft for the Market was Aug 21st (Nature Affinity), the last email from NCsoft support (petition) was September 11th, the last 4 serial codes applied were on Aug 31st (a bunch of the costume codes). -
-
Quote:I don't know... You'd figure that sometime in the last two weeks (according the the original poster), that either NCsoft support or the poster would have spent the 2 minutes to find that.Snow, this is the internet. Do you really expect people to read the announcements before posting.
On the other hand I didn't get an email about a refund yet, and if I don't soon then I'm going to be extremely annoyed at NCsoft Support & Billing. -
The next run will likely be 4pm Pacific/6pm Central/7pm Eastern Sunday September 30th (please try to show up a bit earlier as we have to sort teams out, etc).
Look for a new signup thread soon. -

Quote:Aside from having great respect for the author in question (and her integrity), all I have to say is that you are an idiot.Having your news depend on someone who's job it is to imagine fantastical stories doesn't strike me as the best idea.
No, wait, I do have more to say.
She has a closer relationship with the developers (past and present) than you'll ever have and I'll trust her when she is saying that talks are ongoing still. -
Well, that certainly fits with Solomon Isles.
Quote:I was looking into this game the other day. It looks rather bland, but I got a pseudo-Call of Cthulhu vibe from it. The 'skill wheel' system didn't look very interesting as far as the offered skills went, and it seemed that many of the sets I would be interested in were on the outer wheels meaning, as I was given to understand, I'd have to play the character through two entire skill sets I didn't want in order to get to the one I wanted for that character.
I'd say that getting a single inner wheel category unlocked (the first two trees) will happen about half way through Kingsmouth. It takes about as long as it used to take from starting to about Frostfire to unlock a single wheel category from start.
Quote:Human-only players in a largely mundane setting is bland to me. But the pseudo-CoC vibe I was getting from some of the screenshots and info piqued my interest despite that.
Quote:What constitutes "fairly quickly" is rather subjective, I find. Some would say that it's fairly quick getting to 50 in this game, but I still find it to be a tediously lengthy process barring unsavory practices. If it turns out to be fairly quick by my standards, then I imagine typical MMOG players who've played for a week already have all of the skills unlocked. In any case, I don't want to go around clawing things up with the unarmed skills available in order to get to skills that seem to involve more typical unarmed combat.
For example, I was focusing on Elementalism and Shotgun (about 30 hours getting me both groups in both weapons, plus a lot of outer wheel abilities), but I found I really couldn't do sustained fights. So I started working on a different weapon, after about 5-6 hours I've unlocked both inner trees in the Rifle set and now I'm combining Elemental abilities with Rifle, or with a different build (which you can store in game), switch to Elemental, Shotgun, Rifle, or any combination thereof (only active abilities of 2 weapons though). I have a couple passives outside of those (fists and blade) at the moment, but I'll have more choice as the character builds. I haven't even got the Aux weapon yet (Rocket Launcher, more to come later).
It is one of the reasons I loved Khelds: I can choose how I play, yet with even more diversity than with Khelds.
Quote:I've looked through the link to TSW several times...where is the 3-day trial option? All I see is full enrollment or a PC version plus 30 days of MMO.
Any direction would be helpful. I'm probably staring right at it and not seeing it somehow.
Quote:The atmosphere is top notch but by the time I got halfway through the third zone, the endless zombies had gotten to me
Quote:One question: how pervasive is the PVP in-game? The only thing I found about it is that there is no open world PVP. Is it easy to avoid? Will I be plagued with spammed duel requests from multiple vectors with no recourse but to place numerous individuals on /ignore? I've run into that issue in numerous games.
So you can enjoy the benefits of other's PVP efforts, but you don't have to PVP yourself. -
Quote:Yes, either an approximately $15 monthly fee or a $200 lifetime subscription.I've been hearing this game come up alot lately. Does it have a monthly fee?
Yeah, it seems that way, doesn't it.
My names in The Secret World:
Forum: SnowGlobe
Arcadia: SnowGlobe (Templars)
Arcadia: Cleena (Illuminati)
Arcadia: Gryfalcon (Illuminati)
Arcadia: (Dragon, name withheld as even I like my privacy sometimes.)
Warning: Some joker thought it would be a good idea to take "Snow-Globe" after I told tsw's forums that I went there. That isn't me, and I hope the person chokes on any negative reaction.
Quote:It sounds interesting, but after glancing at the required system specs, it's definitely a no-buy for me.
Operating system: Windows Vista® Home Premium 32-Bit (Yes, this is causing me to crash every once in a while due to memory management.)
Processor: AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 5000+ • 2.60 GHz, 512KB+512KB L2 Cache, 2000 MT/s System Bus
Chipset: NVIDIA nForce 430 Chipset
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Video adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 SE (1 GB)
It is running about the same for me as CoH. Which is to say 20-30 Frames Per Second.
My next CPU/MB/RAM will be significantly better.

On a curious to note, they will be releasing their 3rd content patch tomorrow. -

I could lie and say that I was taking my time to respond to these posts, but that isn't me. I will say that I thought I'd check into it though.
Quote:Yes, the acceptance stage is probably the closest to where I am.Really Snow?
This is what you bring to the table?
I would have thought you would be leading a final assault on Triumph.
Guess that puts you firmly in the acceptance stage?
I'm not in denial, as I'm sure it will happen. I'm far too rational for that. Whether or not it gets bought out or not is another matter. However I'm not pinning my hopes on that either.
I'm still angry about this, but not for losing the game. I'm angry about losing the community.
Bargaining requires that I have something of value to bargain with. I don't. I don't think bargaining with corporate entities works, so that leaves the final two stages.
Depression. Well, depression can only get you so much as you let it. When I was younger I contemplated suicide (but never attempted it), and the game shutting down isn't as devastating as what was going on earlier in my life.
That leaves acceptance. I can accept that CoH (the game) is leaving. I'm still working on the community part though.
Quote:If I can get back on my feet, so can anyone else, Snow Globe.
I have that already. For more than you'd expect. Sure there is my time with the City Scoop (that was hard to do with going to College full time), and my contributions to the forums, but I'm most proud of my efforts to build and maintain communities. -
One of the things that I'll always cherish is the community of Triumph. It didn't always get along, but that helped to keep it interesting. Thank you for being a part of that community!

Quote:Actually the people in direct control of account status are likely still there, but they were not at Paragon Studios. It is the accounting trolls at NCsoft. In reality, someone at accounting could tell a server monkey to flip the VIP switch on all accounts. That would affect both the beta and the live servers at the same time. I'd estimate that the database query would take all of 5 minutes to write (provided it is in a MySQL database) and would be able to be done without a server shutdown. At any rate, it would be far easier to do than your suggestion.@SnowGlobe:
*shrug* i just hoped it would be easy enough to code.
But as you posted, there is noone left now.
However, in the past NCsoft has taken 8-10 hours to "fiddle" with the account database. At that point, I'm guessing that they need approval of 3-4 departments, put it to a test platform, preform a QA check, get an approval of the QA check, put it to the live account server, get THAT approved by QA, and finally have the last QA approval approved. To say that the bureaucrats have run amok at NCsoft is to say that the Atlantic Ocean is a "small pond". -
Thanks, I thought people needed a bit of laughter to try to not let the darkness overwhelm them.
My thanks to everyone from the other servers that came out to try to help. We didn't quite manage the Really Hard Way, and it was only due to a bug that we didn't get the Hard Way done twice instead of just once. Provided server access is still there, there will be more tries this coming weekend. -

We start in DA, yes. As to when we actually start, well, that is up to @Sayaki.

Quote:These two are the reason why it wont happen. Especially the first one as there is no one left to set up the code.@SnowGlobe two posts:

I agree mostly. I think there is some "code to set up" and someone who could enable the item in the store". Design is neglectable due to beta-server-store and, oh yes, because the game is going down ^^
- "Approval from NCSoft":
Well, this is a hard one, but it is possible this option, which does not influence the real servers and maybe could smooth some waves, could be considered by NCSoft. -
I didn't get the one about Blade & Soul either.
