Quote:Yeah, the guy named "Tyrant" is obviously a Good Guy.Sure you do, for the last few days you've been relentlessly violating the "Cole and the Loyalists are totally EEEEEEVIL" horse. Even I'm starting to grow weary of it, and I have a pretty high tolerance for these kinds of things.

Quote:I've been playing D&D since 1983 and have had about 500 discussions just like this one. :-)Really?
Well it sounds like you know more about it than I do - reading through the wikipedia entry again - specifically the definition of the axes rather than the specific combinations - supports what you're saying.
That doesn't sit well with me, though - Cole doesn't appear to be self serving. He does appear to be working for the good of his people. He IS oppressing them, but "for their own good." That doesn't seem to fit.
Or maybe it means that not everything fits cleanly on the D&D axes.
Evil is about the means, not the goal, even in D&D axes. An evil person can have good intent. in fact, that's a common theme in many D&D themed games where a good person slides into villainy because of their good intentions (such as neverwinter nights, for example).
Darth Vader doesn't seem self serving either. He wants to "End this destructive conflict and bring order to the galaxy". I don't think you can make a case for him being non-villainous.
Cole is pretty much the textbook D&D definition of Lawful Evil.
And yeah, very few things fit cleanly on the D&D axes - thats why I've had about 500 discussions just like this. -
Quote:That's the wrong kind of law. That's law, not Law. Law, in the alignment sense, refers to a Cosmic Law, a tendancy towards Order and Control, again in the larger, cosmic sense. The axis is Law vs. Chaos not law vs. criminal.Well, Recluse makes the laws, so he's sort of lawful
A law system doesn't need to be just and fair - it just needs to be a structure that others follow or are forced to follow, no matter how unjust it is.
So, a legal system that espoused "might is right" is not Lawful, even if it's the law of the land. It's chaotic, and possibly Evil.
In scientific terms, Equilibrium is Lawful, while Entropy is Chaotic. The negative side of Lawful is it tends to be stagnant and possibly even oppressive. The downside of Chaos is it tends to be unstable and unpredictable.
Everywhere in the Rogue Islands we see people running amok, battles in the streets, Soldiers of Arachnos fighting everything and sometimes even each other, and Recluse perched in the middle of it encouraging the fighting as a way to "weed out the weak" through some survival of the fittest (read the background fluff about Arachnos). That's Chaos, through and through. -

Quote:Actually Oppressing others, regardless of Motive, is Evil in D&D. A lack of respect for life and others is Evil on the access. Good is Altruistic in D&D and Cole ain't.But that's not what evil is in the D&D alignment system. Evil is about self-serving activities at the expense of others, the accumulation of power for its own sake, etc. Cole, on the other hand, has those mind readers in place because he thinks they're necessary to protect "his" people - clearly not an evil action in the D&D alignment framework.
LN doesn't mean we can't, in the real world, say that someone is evil. They're just not "evil" in the D&D framework.
This is my problem with the old alignment system in D&D, no one can seem to understand the Law vs Chaos Axis at all (everyone thinks it has something to do with obeying legal codes, which has little to do with it, per se) and no one can agree on where the good-neutral-evil line is drawn. -
Quote:Arachnos as an organization (and Recluse as a Leader) isn't Lawful. Not in the least.I disagree. Arachnos and the Rogue Island Villains come across to me as more Lawful Evil than Chaotic Evil. There are some individual villains and some of the minor groups that are clearly Chaotic Evil but overall Arachnos and Lord Recluse seem to be Lawful Evil.
Remember Lawful != lawful.
Recluse's propaganda speech in Grandville that loops is the very definition of Chaotic Evil:
"I must therefore rely on all of you to spread the word of Lord Recluse's vision. A vision of a glorious future, in which man is not encumbered by the desire for truth, peace, or justice. A future where you no longer must obey others. Where you must no longer bow down to those who deem themselves your superiors. A world in which you can finally say "No more!" No longer will you have to listen to those who tell you that you must earn what you wish, that you must work hard to achieve your goals. You will have the strength to take what you desire! ((the crowd cheers))
Through my way--the way of villainy--you can have what you want now. You can leave the weak lying in your wake as you grasp with both hands the glorious future of havoc. The heroes are doomed! ((more applause from the crowd)) Join me now, or you will suffer the same fate that awaits all who defy me. I, Lord Recluse, shall cover this world in darkness! ((crowd cheers until audio feed loops))" -
Quote:In ITFs, my 50 SS/Inv brute was able to be the primary tank for the team just having a pocket defender and a pocket /kin Corr along for the ride. We pounded Rommie flat without breaking a sweat. The /kin kept my endurance up and the defender (ice I believe) made me truly invulnerable to just about everything. I was able to spam taunts without seeing my health bar move much at all.You know I've had nothing but awesome experiences in Cim and RWZ with mixed teams (not too mention the V-Day pocket D missions). Since Villains are so darned self-sufficient and in many cases self-buffing, defender level buffs just push things to a whole new level. I think many heroes who aren't familiar with red side AT's are going to be wowed.
I think alot of hero ATs will work really really well on teams Redside. -
MMs who block doors and aggro multiple spawns on a regular basis don't know how to play MMs. Accidents happen and pets are dumb, but generally it should be the exception, not the rule.
-
It wasn't nearly as fun as I had hoped. After the first couple of times, it got pretty old for me. I'd like to see more zone events... but this ain't one of them.

Quote:I have always found it easier to play brutes solo on higher difficulty levels than lower ones because of Fury. The moment I got Stamina slotted, it'd be Ruthless/Relentless for me from there on in. Whenever I started having a rough time with my brute, it'd be because I forgot to boost up my difficulty.I think part of your fury building troubles comes from having Battle Axe as your primary. It's a bit slow. But then, pre-new-difficulty system fury was always a bit slow solo. Hmm... I wonder what claws is like...
NOW of course, in our new awesome button world, building fury is easy! Just bump up team size and insta-fury within moments of starting a fight... and all that fury means the fight won't last long either! I like x6-x8 team size at +0 for brutes now. Not too challenging (but keeps you on your toes), and you get positively HUGE battles with literal piles of bodies at your feet.
Ah, to be a Brute in a post I-16 world is what is best in life (in the Conan meaning of the term) -
That's actually cool. I'd love a "Random SG Base" telepad for my base.
-
All I know is, the most fun I've had with this game lately has been logging in my lvl 38 axe/wp brute, cranking the diff to x8 team size with solo bosses enabled, then going into door missions and watching huge hordes of enemies fall before my axe in big piles at my feet.

Quote:You'll be hard pressed to break 2k/mo.Yea I see your point, 1800 is no big deal. I saw someone saying that their rent was 20k/mo for what looked like I was after, I may have been mistaken about what was in their base or they were quoting old numbers.
Ok so lets say that 5k/mo is no problem.
Quote:What order should I be starting in?
With 300k seed money do I need to first buy a larger plot or is my start 8x8 sufficient? I see the 12x12 is 316k, yikes.
Assuming that the 8x8 plot is fine then I can purchase the following:
50k workshop
50k oversight
25k control and energy combo
15k salvage rack
25k worktable
95k enhancement bin
---
260k + placement costs does that sound right?
I think you've hit the big starter rooms there. That should be a fine starter base. -

Quote:I think he means PVP mini-games like some other MMOs have (Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, etc). Many of them are objective based, often some variant of capture the flag. The players que up for a game, when there's enough on both sides, it launches and the players are automatically teamed. The mini-game is timed and when the time runs out, the side with the most points (acquired by killing the opposing team and, more lucratively, by achieving the objective) wins and gets rewards.Pretty meh on most of your list Jakey - but what do you mean by this?
I actually think this is a good idea. It could be incorporated into the existing arena system, even. Objective based PVP would be very good in this game, I think, and maybe be interesting enough to draw some PVE players in. -
Quote:You know, if only we could introduce that girl to the OP...I watched some dude try to hit on some chick the other day at best buy in the gaming section... and it went something like this.
Guy: Wow! I never see girls in this section.
Girl: Oh ya? Well I never see *giggle giggle*...
Guy: Oh for real?
Girl: So what are you here to get?
Guy: Uhhh.... a WoW time card.
Girl: Ew.
Guy: Hey what's wrong with that?
Girl: I prefer Super Heroes.
Guy: What's that mean?
Girl: ... she walks away ... -
Quote:I was thinking the same thing.I find it odd that most of your complaints are actually solved redside, yet you "can't get into playing a villain". Villains play like Heroes, the only real different AT are MMs. I enjoy playing redside because all the crap you complained about is blueside. Maybe you should actually try playing a villain again.
And besides that, the OP is empirically wrong: it's a proven fact that EVERYTHING is better with Zombies.
Everything.
Yes, that too.
Also Pirates. Pirates and Zombies make everything more awesome.
If this game had Zombie Pirates it'd be the bestest game EVER
The ghost pirates are a step in the right direction, but they're too low level and not common enough. Or zombie enough.
Now I recognize some people like Ninjas and Robots more than Zombies and Pirates. I feel sorry for these wayward souls, but there's no accounting for taste. So I recommend the Devs create a new issue to add pirates, ninjas, and robots to the attacks (maybe even robot ninjas... oooh). Preferably at the same time. Might as well add some Monkeys while we're at it. Everyone likes monkeys
So, with that in mind, I hereby request I-17: Zombie Pirate Robot Ninja Monkey. -
Quote:http://xkcd.com/605/So, essentially you have a statistical precedent of one, is that how I should take it?
-
I am assuming that this is the case, where "grey" characters can visit the other side, and team with people there, they cannot get contacts or do missions of their own there. Which is frankly fine with me. I'm more interested in "visiting" anyways.
-
My question is, can we have characters who STAY as vigilantes/rogues? I have some I'd like to do that with, and if I had to keep going through hoops to adjust their morality to the "grey" area, I'd be a little annoyed about that (but I absolutely would do it). It'd be nice, however, if we can pick the rate of conversion (and even stop - NOT reverse - it).

Quote:4.5 billion years later and I'm still not all that impressed. This is a bit like turning to God on the first day of Creation, when all He's gotten to so far is parting the water from the land and establishing the whole day/night thing, and saying, "Frankly, I was expecting better." And that's the butt-kicking Old Testament God, so He'd probably do some smiting. At the very least you'd get a big, thunderous, booming "Wait for it... !"
The new graphics upgrades in GR look FABULOUS, however! -
The AT you're looking for is a DOMINATOR.

Quote:Wow, I had that CD MANY MANY YEARS ago but never saw a video for it.
(I still have it too! Great album but not their best... The White Room was their best album I think, but Doctorin' The Tardis is CLASSIC)
Nice.
