COH on Windows 7

My first suggestion is to try and make sure its running in Administrator mode, to do this:

Right click the icon and select "...Run as administator" (Look for the yellow and blue shield)

If this fails to execute the program try running in compatability mode for xp. Right click on the program select properties. Look for the compatability tab, select run in compatability check box and select the OS you want to run it on. You should be able to choose at the very latest vista. You can also troubleshoot compatability from the right click menu but it does the same job as both potential solutions.

Personally i had some issues with installing COH on 7 but once run in administrator everything was cleared up and i've had no issues to date with it. If you can give more specific details as to any error/dialogue messages it will be easier to progress further than just general win7 issues

I couldn't get mine to run until I turned compatibility mode OFF. I do run as admin, though.

I've been running it on Windows 7 for about a week or two now with no issues. Looking up your model, it's a laptop. Not all laptops are compatible with the game, in my experience. Try the tech forums too, they could possibly help you there better.

Ok, now I am worried. I am about to buy a new computer loaded with Windows 7. From what I see in this thread, CoH isn't really compatible with Windows 7. Although, there are those who are using it successfully. I'm hesitant to buy a new system fearing that I will be one of those who won't be able to run CoH. Perhaps I should wait a while for NCSoft to make coding changes that will let the game run will all it's goodies set on high (my new computer will have awesome graphics.) I already know that Everquest 2 (which is much more graphic intensive than CoH) runs great on Windows 7, so whatever it is with CoH.. it's something with the program and not with Windows 7.

I'd be willing to bet that the people who are having problems running CoH on windows 7 are the vocal minority. People have had problems running it on XP and Vista too, but again, they are the minority. Don't let a few people's fixable problems keep you from getting a new system. In my opinion, Win7 is great.

Do you have it in compatibility mode?

It's not the program. It's some setting, or a driver or a bad install or something.

I've run COH on the Win7 beta, Win7 RC and release - Home Premium, 64 bit. It's not a case of "COH doesn't work on Win7." No special settings were needed in my case. (I'm not in compatibility mode or anything special. Just installed Win7, installed COH and ran with it.) Yes, if you go to the support site, you won't see Windows 7 (or Vista) on the system requirements - but ti works fine in general.

The OP is having some problem - given that all computers aren't the same, there's something specific there that needs to be figured out. *shrug* Make sure the firewall's not on, do a clean COH install, something.

It's not Windows 7 that's causing issues.

Me and a vast group of people have had Windows 7 since Beta and we've never had any issues with CoH.

I suggest you start by checking your drivers and windows settings.

As others have said, turn off compatibility mode.

Do you get a black screen?

If not, try disabling Aero before running CoH.

This is sometimes (but not always!) caused by the computer not liking CoH's default settings. Try downloading TweakCoH and using that to check the settings from outside of the game (make sure your resolution matches your desktop, turn things down to minimum). If you can get it running on the minimum settings then you can turn them up one by one until you're running on something that looks decent and your comp doesn't protest to. And, as others have said, turn of compatibility mode as well.

One of the things that seems to do wonders is use Tweak to change the resolution to a windowed setting, instead of the (IIRC) default full screen.

I'm running CoH on a laptop with a fresh win 7 install. Try installing directX 9c. Win7 I think comes with at least DX10. It shouldn't be an issue, but who knows what might have changed from DX 9 to DX10. It worked for me in running Aion. Might work here too.

With loading time troubles, did you try starting the game in Safe Mode? {there's a little checkbox in the launcher}.
