  1. Isn't there a PvP Forum this kind of whining should go into?
  2. I think my TA/A plays like a controller, and that's what matters to me. I'm not exactly trying to help out my teammates directly (I don't even have to check the team window for green bars or buffs!), I'm just trying to render the baddies as harmless as possible. I've often found that when I'm playing my TA/A, I'm thinking "Man, how is this a Defender and not a Controller?"

That's my main difference. Forget all the "What, pray tell, IS a control?" shenanigans, I say TA PLAYS like a controller, and that's enough for me.
  3. Yes, but that doesn't change the fact that you still need redraw. Some people really don't like that fact. I know from personal experience on my DB/SR that when I'm flipping out and slicing everything around me, having to stop and re-draw my blades every time Practiced Brawler comes around bums me out just a tiny bit. I personally don't mind, though, especially with the benefits of Practiced Brawler.
  4. Soft-capped Invulnerability. With Dark Melee on the side for an extra bit of win. I find it to be almost more survivable than Stone, and certainly faster and more maneuverable.

    DB Question

Yes, yes it does. Not entirely sure how to improve on that. You could potentially sneak the Regenerative Tissue - +Regeneration into Aid Other, I suppose.

Now, one question I've been kicking around; how would such a crazy single-target build fare in team play? For instance, say we go with either Werner's or Laevateinn's build. In team play, I would think that AoE's win the day, what with the larger spawns and all. Would Sweeping Strike be enough of an AoE threat to really be of use? Or would making some compromises and grabbing One Thousand Cuts or Typhoon's Edge be more of use? Or, to go a different route, picking up Vengeful Slice and using Attack Vitals religiously?

How do such amazing single-target damage dealing builds fare in team play? (And by the way, if you can in any way improve on the above builds, I would think that a worthy challenge to y'all out there! Great stuff!)
  6. Gracious me, I love Dual Blades. Graceful and deadly, all at the same time. In addition, you have the option of weapon customization!
  7. Soft-capped for WHAT, exactly? I mean, you can take an Invulnerability Tanker and soft-cap for S/L defenses, or you can take that very same Invulnerability Tanker and soft-cap F/C/E/N instead, and rely on the nice S/L Resistance of the set. Or, you can go for a Shield Tanker and soft-cap your positions, but leave yourself at the mercy of the streak-breaker.

How "Tough" are we shooting for, here?
  8. I very much enjoyed this thread as well.

I was wondering though, why WP specifically? If you're going for an AV-killer, would SR perhaps be a better option? What's the real difference, there?
  9. I still hate Ice Patch. A power that roots you in place for the (long) animation has no place in a Defense build, which can be potentially crippled at any time. I'd rather be up, moving, and able to hit Hoarfrost or an inspiration.

In a vacuum, Izd have to say the best pets would be from Necromancy and Bots.

All the others, except the oni, would instantly die when their lungs collapsed from lack of air, and the oni would be useless with no oxygen to fuel his flames.

Yup, I thought this exact same thing, hah!
  11. I love my Tanker because it most closely resembles real life for me. Get drunk enough to feel invincible, then run around yelling at things and punching them in the head. Beautiful.
  12. You want a Inv/DM. Soft-cap it. You'll be highly mobile, well protected, and DM's -ToHit and powers like Siphon Life will perform well in PvP.
  13. So yeah, I want to roll up a Dual Blades Scrapper. For the secondary, I'm planning on Super Reflexes, but that's ... well, secondary.

What I really want to know about are all these combos. The "guides" I've seen thusfar only mention what combinations are good at level 50, and rarely touch upon what's effective for levelling up. So I put that question to you!

From the looks of it, I can perform the Weaken combo as early as level 6. Empower comes at 8. Then a big ol' wait until 26, when I can use Attack Vitals, and then 32, when Sweep is available.

Do I try to get both Weaken and Empower as soon as possible? Can one wait a little while I take secondary/pool powers to shore up my defenses?

I guess what I'm planning is to grab the Weaken combo as soon as I can, and use that until my defense is bolstered. Then move on to Empower. But when will I be able to disregard the first couple combos in favor of the others? Do I respec out of the first two combos once I can use the second two?

Any advice on how to build up a Dual Blades Scrapper would be helpful. Thanks!
  14. Have each kid figure out what they want to play. Then have them play that.
  15. I still believe that punching stuff in the face serves as excellent mitigation. Things that are dead deal no damage; the faster my team can down a mob, the less you'll even have to worry about any of this. In the case of Empathy, for instance, the heals may be nice, but Fortitude, Recovery Aura, and Adrenalin Boost are where it's at (for me).
  16. THAT'S what "purist" means? I always thought that applied more to folks who only use SO's or common IO's, never sets or anything to fill in the gaps.

    Unique build?

I have a Psychic/Energy Blaster with perma'd Boost Range and softcapped Ranged Defense. Except for the Nuke and Snipe, every single one of Psychic's blasts is 80 feet. In the end, I have a character that can fire off all but one primary power from 130 feet. With softcapped Ranged Defense.

No, it's not as powerful or flashy as others, but it's different, and it's fun. And you should see it in action on an outdoor map!

    Dual tank teams

I'm geekin' at the thought of dual Shielders, that sounds like it'd be a flippin' sweet time.
  20. Dark/Sonic Defender.

-ToHit to help out the Shield types, /Sonic to help the damage squadron.

AND bourbon. (I thought that first too)
  21. *nod*

To be completely honest, I really think most of the Tanker primaries can handle EVERYTHING. Yes, some of them will need to fill holes with IOs, but what else are you gonna spend your influence on as a Tanker?

I'm gonna say a properly-built Tanker can withstand anything, no matter the Primary.
  22. Soft-capped Invulnerability will outperform a Willpower tank, in my opinion. In fact, I would put them on par with Stone tankers. Certainly more maneuverable.

I would put Ice and Willpower on the same plane. I have no experience with Dark; it may be up there too.
