  1. you won't notice much of an improvement with just the 2gb memory upgrade. add in a video card you will see an improvement, but really not much.

probably just save the money you would spend on buying these parts and put it towards something better might be the best thing to do, because then you are $45 to $100+ closer.
  2. probably could use this card without any issues
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814500207

and this one would be better but doesn't show what it needs for power.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127585

both are examples of cards, and depending on your budget, you can pick amoung the different prices for the different manufactures
  3. also keep in mind when upgrading a video card is the amount of power your current power supply has. most oem systems are about 250 watt to 300 watt. most newer better cards require a 400watt power supply and above. at 250 or 300 watt you could probably get a nvidia gt430, gt520, or gt440. anything better than that will require more then what your pc has.
  4. I just looked up the specs of your pc. it looks like it has 1 pciex16 slot and can support up to 2gb of pc3200ddr memory. i am going to make a guess that the power supply is about 250 watt. and the installed memory is 2 sticks of 512mb.

a low end video card, it will give you a better visual experience. you probably could put in a ati hd4350 or a hd5450.

    examples

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127557

for memory you would need to get a 2gb pack like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231047

now there are no guarantees that it will work for you, it all depends on how much power your power supply is rated at.

your best option, providing your budget allows for it, is buy a new pc. newegg has one for 449.99 that will be a nice upgrade to your current system and the pricing isn't that bad

With procs (like for example the performance shifter proc you have in stamina) it's a different story, they are only activated when the power is active, and even then some of them only activate periodically. There are exceptions, however. Usually these carry the "global" moniker.

For example, Luck of the Gambler gives you 7.5% global recharge, so it's always on, regardless of the state of the power in which it was slotted. By contrast, Force Feedback chance for +recharge only has a chance to give you recharge, and so it only activates when the power in which it slots activates. (note that by "activate" I don't mean that it actually fires - it only has a chance to fire, and so by "activate" I mean it rolls for the chance. It may or may not fire, based on the result.)

Miracle and Numina's procs are another example you should note. In the description, it says they give you a bonus to regeneration and/or recovery for a set amount of time (I think it's 120 seconds). If you slot these in a click power like a heal, you'll get the benefit for - you guessed it - 120 seconds. If you slot these in an auto power like health, you get a continuous bonus. Slotting them in a toggle will have them active when the toggle is active.

The performance shifter proc you have in stamina will activate once every ten seconds (I think) because it is a chance to award 10% endurance. Slot it in light form (like I had mistakenly planned) and it'll only activate once, when light form activates.

    Good luck with your build!

well then dang it, i always thought they needed to be active to be effective. i guess that would make sense on those builds that make no sense to me. i always wondered on those

    thanks for the info
  6. thanks for the advice. not sure if i understood something correctly, but in order to get some of the bonus effects, i would need to activate the power? like i would need to do all the attacks and heals/buffs to get the bonuses? or is it just a global thing, you slot it you get it?

i notice it is a little end heavy, is that because of having conserve energy?

thanks for the build, i am going to play around a little with that.
  7. so i have been playing around with mids today to see if i could get some where with it.

so far i have this. any comments or suggestion would be helpful. thanks

  8. I wonder if someone could give me some advance in making a human PB with a dwarf form backup, for just in case. i want to use light form, doesn't have to be perm. having trouble trying to decide on what to slot.

my current build is a little old and i haven't respec yet since fitness became inherent. here is my current build. i guess i would like to either go somewhat cheap, and is fine using current IOs on it already

    thanks a lot
  9. I wonder if it has anything to do with having more then one video card. my laptop has a gtx460m, and i have no issues playing in ultra mode in a league. but when i go to my PC with 2 gtx460 in sli on ultra mode and by the time siege comes out of his hut, it is slide show time. both are on the newest drivers. i am going to try disableing SLI and see if it is any diffrent
  10. i have no issues with 2x gtx460s in sli under win 7 home premium x64. the one issue i had and fixed was i crashed after i19 came out, i redownloaded the nvidia drivers and reinstalled them, problem went away. so try reinstalling the nvidia drivers, use the clean install option if you haven't
  11. sounds like the router came up before modem got done connecting to the isp.

try unpluging the power from the modem and router. then plug in the modem, wait a few minutes to be safe and let it connect. then plug in the router, give it a minute to get started. then reboot your pc.

    Overheating?

make sure to use a can of air to blow the dust out of any of your vents and fans. depending on the laptop, you can access the cpu/gpu fan from a panel underneath. just make sure it is dust free as well.
  13. pop the side off the case and make sure the fan is running on the video card.

when you say new pc, did you buy it from some where or did you assemble it? if you assembled it, make sure there isn't any wiring in the way of any fans, also double check to make sure they are plugged in as well.

where do you have this pc sitting? under/on top of the desk? in a cabinet large enough to hold said pc? are your exhaust fans blowing and your intake fans sucking?
  14. for his version of XP service pack 2 is the highest he can go for that since he has the 64bit version.
  15. is it plugged into a ups? if the battery in that is dead, it won't turn on. if not check the power strip it is plugged into to see if it blew a fuse or something. otherwise, yep the psu is dead. it happens. i have had it happen before. just remove it and replace it. if it an oem pc (dell, hp, etc) there are sights out there that have replacement psu's that will fit those cases. just google the pc manufacture, model and module number (dell dimension 3000) power supply replacement.
  16. the credits were for 6 per week for transfers. you got 6 free transfers per week. it wasn't a bankable thing and it wasn't unlimited. so in reality, during the 2xp weekend you could only transfer 6 characters freely.
  17. do an ingame /petiton saying your vet reward time is off and some one in billing will correct it. it happened to me as well. this is actually the second time now for me

no idea on why it happens, but almost seems to be tied to when they release a booster pack or close to it.
  18. he is saying you need to roll back your driver to an earlier version. the 186 drivers have had issues with CoH and most people have had success with the 185.85 nvidia drivers.

also most of the newer cards all use the same drivers, so a 285, 260 and 295 will all use the same driver.
  19. i get my 60 month badge on the 12th of august..

    A problem

in that PC you should have an AGP slot, which will limit your choices a little bit. the other thing that won't help, is most power supplies in brand computers aren't sufficient to power the higher end cards. you might be able to run this card in your current machine, depending on the current wattage of you power supply

    powercooler ati 4670

    or this

    HIS 3650

the 3650 might be a better choice since it will require less to run it
  22. playing on the bed/couch i bet. laptops shouldn't be used on a soft surface like that or you get what you got, since the fans can't probably cool.

also get a can of air and blow any dust from the vents if you can. enough dust blocking the heat sinks will overheat your laptop as well on any surface
  23. seeing you have a dell 3000, which we have these at my work, that 8400 pci card is as good as you are going to get since you don't have the proper card slots for a better card. your performance will increase with it, but just keep the settings low. start off as low as they can go and increase a little as you get into groups and what not and see what will be playable

Every time I try and load up CoH after upgrading from vista64 to windows 7 64 theres something wrong with the video. Loading screens come up fine, but I get black lines thru everything else, CoH is the only program. CoD WaW and Prince of Persia play just fine.

    Any suggestions?

I uninstalled and reinstalled both CoH and nvidia drivers already. Used driver cleaner pro after nvidia uninstall.

EDIT: Nevermind :-] Just read a bit further in to this thread, found some workarounds.

i had gotten the same thing, one thing that i think helps is set your driver to do the tweaks for your video card instead of letting the game do it. course there are somethings the driver can't do and you have to set in the game, but like AA and AF can be set driver side. it helped for me.

CoX runs perfectly for me. Not a single issue. W7-64 with a 9600GT on the Windows Update drivers.

    Issues I do have:
CSS FPS issues - but this seems to have worked itself out.
No X-Fi drivers for it (no surprise considering how long it took to get Vista drivers), but there is an unofficial PAX version that runs almost perfectly on W7 without some of the advanced features.

This is possibly the easiest, most stable OS beta i have ever used from MS.

As an aside, why is it always necessary to have these idiotic OS arguments in any thread like this? I'm sure the thread title says "Windows 7 and City of Heroes.".

i was able to install x-fi drivers for my fatal1ty card, in the properties you can have it run as a vista install under the compatibility tab. it install just fine and i was able to have sound again.

also careful of backing out 181.20 nvidia drivers, i had installed them as well and got the flicker, so i backed out of them and tried logging in to CoX and the splash screen was birghter then normal, same with the char select screen. and when i got into the city, i was nothing but a white screen and my ui.
