Heh, changed your mind again eh?
My (cough) totally unbiased opinion is that you shouldn't view this as a question of which corruptor to make, so much as which corruptor to make first
As for Ice/Cold, again, very powerful character but for soloing /Cold blooms very late. Sleet and Heatloss are fantastic but you don't get them till 35 and 38 respectively. Once you've got them, the Ice/Cold would be better solo than the Fire/Pain.
Teaming, eh, the Pain would be a little better but maybe its best you roll the Ice/Cold first since its a lot more balanced. It'd be a very strong solo and team character.
Honestly though, for a first corruptor/support toon I'd recommend Fire/Rad or Fire/Dark. Both are awesome from very early on and remain strong throughout. Both very powerful solo and teamed. I recommend Fire as a primary because nothing will make you fall in love with Scourge more than Rain of Fire
So yeah, I'd say see if you can come up with a concept you like for Fire/Rad or Fire/Dark and give it a go. If you like how they play maybe then try one of the more specialised Corrs like a /Cold, /Pain or /Storm. -
-
Fire/Pain for teaming, Elec/Storm for soloing.
The Fire/Pain would be easier/better to team with because of the team buffs and heals versus the KB-heavy control stuff of Storm which can be tricky to get the most of on a team.
The Elec/Storm would be a stronger soloer, as only 2 of the 9 powers from Pain can really help you soloing (the PBAoE heal and Anguishing Cry). Soloing the Fire/Pain most of the heavy lifting would be done by Fire Blast.
I would say it depends on what kind of split you're going to have between soloing/teaming. If you're only soloing 10-20% of the time and teaming the rest of the time then Pain not being a very strong soloer wouldn't be an issue.
If I may throw another spanner into the works, what you might also want to consider is Ice or Fire instead of Elec for the Storm. Elec has pretty low damage which can be frustrating. It's not that bad paired with Storm because Lightning Storm and Tornado do good damage, but that's not until much later whereas Fire and Ice are strong blast sets from the outset right through till the end.
FWIW, I have a Fire/Pain and an Ice/Storm :3 I really enjoy both and both are pretty good for soloing and teaming, just as I said above the Fire/Pain is much better at teaming and the Storm is better at soloing.
Hope that helps, heh. -
If you have something like Fire Blast and some recharge you should be able to make a chain with Punch, Haymaker and Fire blast, throwing in KO when its recharged.
On my SS/FA brute the non-KO Blow attacks I use are Gloom, Haymaker and Punch. With Footstomp and KO Blow in the mix at the level of recharge I have I rarely use Punch.
If you don't have them already, I'd recommend you pick up Fire Blast and Fireball. Fire Blast to round out your attack chain and tag runners and Fireball for even MORE delicious AoE. -
KO Blow is always nice for a big hit to one-shot stuff like Sappers. Also its totally badass so I'd never skip it :3

Open up the Export window. In the bottom left corner there should be several check boxes, check the one that says only export data chunk and uncheck the others (something like Only Export Datachunk if creating link isn't possible or something iirc).
Click okay and it'll be put on your clipboard automatically so all you have to do is ctrl-v or edit-paste it into a post. -
Quote:What I do for most of my characters is bind sprint to x so I can turn it on and off easily, that might work if you wanted to be able to use it but not have it on your bar.Sounds like a cool SG. Mine is down to just me and one other active member, at least until GR goes live.
Not sure what I could sack to pick up that 18mph. Edit: guess I could throw the stealth IO in Sprint and put runspeed in SS. But I'd rather not have Sprint in my tray, honestly.
Perhaps I'll just rely on sheer single-minded aggression. Teams I run with can't even begin to challenge my permanent, all-AT-spanning case of scrapperlock. -
Nah, I wouldn't swap out TK for Poison Dart. With that much recharge, (especially with Gloom), you won't need either in your attack chain unless you're exemplared way down.
The -regen is also really small, against AVs/GMs you're better off focusing on putting out as much DPS as possible.
TK is also a better set mule than Poison Dart :3 -
Quote:Saying using Mids means someone has no imagination or is poor at math is like saying an architect who draws up blueprints has no imagination or is poor at math. It's absurd.I dont use pen & paper to make a build, I use the power set description, the individual powers info chart by pressing the "Info" button during creation, and I make my choices by reading from there. Its acctually a very simple thing, and no, I will not get off Mid's.
Mid's is for people who have no imagination, or are poor at math, or possibly both.
I find it funny that people have to sit down and chart out a character, or use Mid's for it, scratching there heads like monkies as if its Rocket Science.
What I like about this game, that Mid's does not tell you, is the fact that not a single combonation is a poor choice to play compaired to any others within any given AT.Thats why alot of people call Fire Armor, and other sets like it weak, because they dont know how to use it, and gosh darnit!Mid's says its bad, or another player does.
So Mid' can take a flying leap.
If you dont like how I talk about Mid's, simply stop listening. You complain about my comment/s on Mid's and ill tell you exactly how I feel about it.Its that simple.
I was not raised to use Diplomecy, or use Tact. They are utter wastes of Time for our society to keep using them.
I don't think anyone uses Mids because they're utterly incapable of drawing up a build without it or making one up as they go and if they do, I'd imagine they're a minority. I think almost everyone uses it just because its a very helpful tool to draw up a plan for a build.
Speaking for myself, it's not a question of disliking what you have to say about Mids. If you don't like Mids and you don't want to use it, awesome, rock on. But to say that anyone who uses Mids is unimaginative or poor at math is ludicrous, that's what I take issue with. -
Quote:Yeah, while I agree that Taunt is far from a necessity, it can be very useful. Especially on a WP Brute because the Taunt on RttC is so anemic.I find taunt pretty useful on my WP brute. I'll be laying out some baddies and getting annoyed at the few jerks who refuse to get in melee with me. So what do I do? I just whip out around and taunt 'em. Now they have to get in my RttC aura.
My EM/FA has Taunt for being obnoxious in PvP and because Whirling Hands is utter garbage. My SS/FA doesn't have Taunt because his build is so tight, if I had room I'd have taken it. -
You're correct, it doesn't. It doesn't even stack from multiple casters, the only advantage in putting it in multiple attacks is to have a higher likelihood of it going off. On my Rad/Kin I've only got it in Irradiate.

TA guide posted, boosh. Traps and Storm guides incoming.

DM/SD scrapper and a Cold/Sonic defender. Should be able to run everything without problems.
-
Elec/SD is much better for Scrappers than for Brutes though. For a farm SD Brute I'd still go SS.

Quote:Oooh Fire_Minded, tell us more about how great you are, I'm getting all a-twitterpatter.I could go on exsplaining my self on this issue all day, but ill just give a exsplination for both parts of this quote.
I dont see anyone challenging anything when they come to the boards using Mids.If thats the acctual use you use Mids for, then thats good, but the majority of people who slap a Mids build up, commonly only focus on the popular sets that people feel will optimize there power builds, so they have less challenges in the game. When the reality is that you can make anything powerful, and it doesnt attribute to using Mids at all.
Not 1 power iv come accrossed is described badly, nore are they missleading in any way.The only powers I can think of that could be seen that way, would be powers like Step Mine. Its easy enough to see what kind of damage itll do, its detination radius, and whatever else it causes, including KB, or KD, depending on the Con of the target, by "Using" it.Or, you could just read the Description, and go from there. It worked in the past, why wouldnt it today?
Its like people bringing up the Argument that Psi Blasts for Defenders can and does get out damaged by a Controllers Mind Control Primary.Doesnt happen, no matter what Mids says. The numbers on damage are diffrent for each AT, and a Controller doesnt out damage a Defender, unless its got a huge damage buff behind it, like Fulcrum Shift.Which is yet another very popular set that people play, and slap up a Mids build with.
I rarely see anyone breaking away from whats considered the best of any build, or power set, mainly because they want the best.Sometimes people fail to realize, that high numbers, for anything, dont get calculated correctly on Mids, and alot of really good sets go un-used, mainly due to the fact that Mids dont favor there numbers.
Even more so, when I jump on any of my Characters, I see builds that focus on ST damage and Defense.Mids does Favor these sets, because the numbers look big, so the player takes it, based on those numbers.
Theres a major issue with those numbers, and they go from everything from damage resistance of a enemy, to the fact it hits 1 thing at a time.
Thats why people who use Mids will most likly make a WP/SS Tanker, and slowly grind a mob, and eventually win, but when facing down a player using a better damaging build for a Tanker, all the sudden its a Scranker, and they arnt a Tank.
Im sorry, but when I jump onto a team with my Fire/Fire Tanker, and the leader adds another person he feels is a better tanker to the team, and I end up taking the Alpha, and doing alot more damage then the other tanker does, clearing the mob almost by my self before running right into the next one, I tend smirk when I see that build being described in Mids on the Boards.
I end up being the strongest player on a PUG most the time, even with my Defenders, because I dont stick with a ST build, or power set combonation that would make me that way.
I see alot of ST Tankers on Pugs, and they completly suck at holding Agro, commonly WP/SS or Invln/** Builds.I watch Kat/SR clones run in and try Tanking, scattering the mob. Then I dont even want to mention how many none attack power Empathy Defenders, who offer no debuffs through there attack powers, and there healing powers that are so longed for on PUGs, wont even help the team survive mob to mob before half the team dies, or wipes complelty.
The average player copies a Mids user, and the Average player usually face plants 3-5 times in every PUG they play on.
Im a Average Player, and me bringing a Defender of any type into a PUG, and being the Only Defender the majority of the time, without Healing capabilities, able to keep a entire team alive from my attacks, and primary set alone, should be proof enough that Mids, as well as Traditional Damage + Heal approuch doesnt work for this game in general.
If you want to be "McGuyverish" in how you play this game, start playing with your Toes.It would be more productive then using a flawed program.
As for the Popularity of a build being why I wont play it?Theres 2 reasons behind it.
1) Im having a bit of fun being someone who sticks out in a crowd and doesnt use the same clone builds or cookie build everyone else is sporting. Its a nice little attention getter, and makes people say things like "I could make one of those.....if I felt like it.." or "Iv always wanted to make one of those." to the more common "Whoa!Iv never seen a <incert build here>!It looks fun!I almost want to make one now!"
2) Why would I want to play something I have seen, watched, and am not impressed with? That and the fact seeing so many clones of it makes me not want to play it even more.Nothing to exsplore.
As for cool kids being on a bridge?I wouldnt be there with them.Unless im crossing that bridge, I would find it pointless to be standing on a bridge doing nothing but staying there, with a bunch of people who do it for whatever reason.
Side Note : Im the guy who used to beat the cool kids up in school, so im not one to worry about what they do, as long as they dont target me to make them selves look "Cool" in front of other people, they got to keep there teeth. -
Any Tank. Tanking is for Everquest and WoW, Brutes/Scrappers are much more useful imo.
Any Defender except maaaaybe /sonic. I much prefer the added offense a Corr has.
Energy Blast.
A Kheldian. Love the visuals, hate the way they play.
Dual Blades. Same reason as Khelds.
WP. I really like the set, I honestly do and I've tried it several times, even gotten it to 50. It just bores me to tears.
SR, for similar reasons. Had a DM/SR scrapper at 50, now deleted. SR is really effective and I love the SFX, I just find it really boring.
Most MMs. Playstyle just doesn't really gel with me, though I've tried several. -
On a lot of my characters whose builds are very tight I'd take more of the fun powers I wanted but couldn't fit in, (Fallout on my Rad, Inferno on my Dark, Burn on my SS/FA, Inertial Reduction on my kin).
I'd probably take Leadership pool powers on more characters, or Fighting if I don't have it already and build for more defense.
I'd probably take Hurdle and Heath anyway though, for maneuverability and the Heal IO set uniques. More regen is always nice. -
Neutron Bomb feels slow because in addition to having a slow animation, the damage doesn't hit until the projectile does, which goes in a huuuuge arc. The farther away the mob is, the higher the projectile arcs into the air.
If the mob runs away it takes even longer. I'd love if it got sped up. Neutron Fireball plz >.> -
That's a lot of Energy Blasted.
My hours are all split across all my characters, don't really have a "main" to speak of.
It's probably for the best if I don't log each one and add it up
Edit: did actually check my SS/FA because I was on him when I read this, he's got 1106. I remember my D3 had about a thousand on him. -
/Ice and /Sonic are definitely worth considering, considering the absurd debuff values for -res on /Sonic and Ice Storm/Blizzard doing Blaster level damage.
-
Yeah, while I like it for hard-target sapping on my elec/therm, Voltaic Sentinel is generally pretty lacklustre.
I'd drop it or the snipe for a tier3 blast in an instant.
If you want to be able to use Sonic Disruption solo you could consider one of the PPP pets. That said, they're all pretty awful so I wouldn't recommend it, just saying it is an option.
For a /sonic I'd just recommend you go with Fire/ or Sonic/. Both have a solid punch to do most of the heavy lifting for /sonic solo as well as to make the most of the debuffs you bring in teams. -
I'm afraid I can't comment on the math/method, but as far as targetting when over the cap is concerned:
I think the way it works is that each pulse it'll check on its target cap worth of targets, so say you've got 20 mobs on a 10capped patch. It'll check 10 of them each pulse, but each pulse can only check/affect a mob that wasn't checked/affected by the previous pulse. So if a mob was KDed/is getting up then it can't be checked for KD by the next pulse.
So assuming targets numbers 1-10 all got checked for KD/KDed by the first pulse, targets 11-20 would be checked for the second pulse.
At least, I think that's how it works >.>
