Quote:I think it'll be a fine tank personally. Then again I foresee a bunch of SR tanks getting med pool. That mechanic is very useful against minions who are nickel-and-diming you, but not so useful against an alpha strike.
As for me, i've slowly been deleting my scrappers and rerolling them as tanks or brutes. Now I'll be able to reroll my last two scrappers, my MA/SR and my Elec/SR. Although I am a little skeptical about how "tanky" an SR/* tank would be, so I have a feeling I may wind up re-rolling them again as brutes (well, once MA gets ported to brutes).
Interesting that you are rerolling your scrappers into brutes and tanks. May I ask why? Seems like the scrapper community likes their shineys so much they usually keep em and ask why play anything else. -
Quote:You can definitely resemble, you just can't copy. When I've made an homage char, I start by making it look as close as possible to the character and then make some "improvements" to the look. I've done a few homage looks before and no one thinks too much about it as long as you don't exactly copy the original... never could get Underdog to look right though.Welcome to the forums Jaymes!!
Just a headsup, in case you are unaware.
Make sure you don't copy Superman's outfit and or name in anyway. It will end up getting you reported and the name/outfit could be generic'd.
We can't duplicate any trademark or Copyrighted© characters in game due to a lawsuit by Marvel years and years ago.
Otherwise, have fun with your homage character! Feel free to have a 'Superman' like toon, as long as you don't make them resemble the actual one! -
Been a while since I played a SR so pardon me if i'm out of date with my info. Are you saying they took out the resistance building mechanic in SR? That moved the SR scrapper from an "eh" class into one that many wanted to play.

Quote:I agree, it definitely needs the taunt if Ice Storm and LR don't have an aggro component. I placed this thread to see if there was some taunt to it that isn't mentioned in mids and what people thought about those abilities in reference to taunt. I was thinking of AaO for taunt too. I'm pretty sure my final build will take Havoc Punch out for Taunt unless I can get by without it.I felt that your build would run out of endurance rather fast given the least favourable team make up and without taunt could also with the least favourable team make up be lacking in the flexibility required to create the survivability not just, in some circumstances for yourself but for the team too.
Ofc there is always an insp tray but if its "all round" to you then carry on.
And yes, I can forsee chomping some blues along the way too. I think I can help that out with swapping the extra slot from CJ to stamina and putting the PS proc in it. That's part of the what's wrong with this build I was asking about. I wondered if anyone has played this combo and can contribute what I might expect endwise. I don't have a problem chomping blues (and greens) from time to time, what I don't want to do is have to craft blues at every instance cuz I can't stand up without em. Like everyone does with purples and AE farming.
The good news is I can achieve Blizzard+ levels of damage about every 40 seconds, even if the aoe is smaller. It has very nice D and resist numbers and overall, will stand well as a tank if I can get the end under control. We've all seen plenty a tank who has major issues with one thing or another (or more). This build/AT seems to lack that kind of an issue. -
Quote:I've tried leaving out CJ on non flying chars before, but the maneuverability is sooo nice. You did make me think about the slotting on that. Gonna switch out the extra slot there for perfomance shifter proc in stamina. That should help the build overall. You're still soft capped without Combat Jumping, so you could substitute that out for taunt.
Personally, I tend to leave OwtS at it's base slot and would redistribute the extra slots around instead of trying to get set bonuses there. YMMV.
I see your point on OwtS. I know that it's situational, but I like that I can go into an AV fight at all but capped HP and nice resistances. I think if I take out those slots, I might actually just skip the power. but then I would be rewriting the whole build to try to fit in the self heal or i wouldn't feel confident as a tank.
Good thoughts, but i'm leaning on getting rid of Havoc punch right now and trying to rely on Jacobs ladder and Chain Induction for the single target damage. I could place a couple slots into CI and put it in the 5 endo range. not too shabby, but it will leave a bit of a stall in my single target attack chain. -
I was playing around with a new char on Mids and came up with a few questions I was hoping the experts could help me with.
According to mids, Lightning Rod has no inherent punchvoke aggro. Same with ice storm. Anyone with experience with these two powers able to confirm/deny this is the case?
The reason I'm asking is that the build I've come up with is pretty tight and I don't have taunt. The only two places I feel taunt could go would be in for Havoc Punch or possibly BU. I've got havoc punch in there for single target. My single target rotation is pretty thin as is, so i went for lower power but quicker activation powers (Charged Brawl/Havoc Punch/Ice Blast).
Other than this, I think I've got a very nice all around tank. Take a look and tell me what I'm doing wrong.

I've a level 29 version now and he's a lot of fun. Just make sure to slot end redux into your attacks while leveling up and all is (reasonably) well.

Quote:That's what i figured. I just thought it would be nice to make it unresistable.According to CoD:
- ToHit -7.5% for 20s
Still makes a nice combo to add with DK if you go that route with your brute. -
[QUOTE=SpyralPegacyon;3851819]It also doesn't hurt that I've been eyeing ElA for a while now, and pairing it with claws on a brute was like combining crunchy peanut butter, jelly, and wheat bread. QUOTE]
Dam j00! Now I have the Family Guy Peanut butter, jelly time scene looping through my brain.
And in all fairness... Dam Brian Griffon too. -
Although mine's not quite a complete build yet, I'm going a different route with him. It misses out on a real travel power and tactics, but should be a bit tougher to bring down.
I went Soul for the tents and DK and kept nimble slash to leverage weaken if needed.

I've been working on a DB/Elec brute and thought the weaken combo might be something to look into. I don't currently have it, but was wondering if any of the experts have any actual experience with it. Does anyone know the numbers for weaken on a brute and if the -to hit is resistable or unresisted?
The numbers for the tank are "... specific effects are flagged: Defense -0.07 for 20s [i]If Dual Blade Debuff Mode 2 ToHit -7% for 20s ". TY to Siolfir for the numbers.
Tohit debuff of 7% is nothing to sneeze at as brute DK is only at ~10% (~16% slotted). Combining would be ~23%, which is what DK for a rupter puts out.
Basically, I'm looking at possibly adding Nimble Slash so as to open this combo. If the numbers are good enough, I'll try it out.
I now most ppl bash it, but any input would be appreciated. -
the fighting pool actually helps a bit with this set. CJ and Hasten are a must imo for the movement and rech of your powers.
Mine is currently level 28 and it's a fun set to play overall. Hit's hard and has some aoe potential that is slow activating, but not too shabby.
As far as patron, Scorp looks good. Remember if you have decent to good D and Power Boost commin up half the time you have some serious benefits to your D too. I've also played with ice mastery and Psi mastery with mids and have come up with some really nice possibilities with each. Ice mastery will give you decent D with a heal/HP incr and good aoe choices. Psi mastery will give you decent resist and very nice D (capped nrg/neg and almost capped S/L/Psi with a 3 second downtime) and a confuse to stack with your other confuse. -
Quote:too bad, but it's still an awesome power. I keep being suprised at how much mitigation it actually does. Like I said, mine's still a lowbie at level 20 so i know all the mez and the like is in the future.I wish I could find a place for SuperSpeed, but I need all the powers I picked, either to make my dominator's job or to reach the S/L softcap
Looking at RedTomax.com, I see that Arctic Air always notifies mobs, so I suppose it would immediately cancel the stealth and aggro the foes. -
Ispahan/or anyone else,
Out of curiosity, have you tried stealth/SS with your AA? Would it send aggro to you if you were invis or just scare/confuse the bad guys? -
Quote:So you're leveling through Purgatoria?!? That's the reason why you're not liking the char. When I say nothing slotted, I'm more speaking of lack of IOs. I always use my TOs and DOs that drop and occassionally buy more DOs once I acrue funds. Part of the problem was that I leveled her 1-16 during 2xp weekend, so the levels flew by before I could slot.
Heroside I have an extremely stocked based, so I'm spoiled. Leveling through Praetoria I feel gimped (I know I can gmail stuff to myself, but when I have very limited play time, I didn't want to waste 15 minutes having to individually mail myself a bunch of enh).
By the way, I started my Plant/Thorn Dom and am liking it. One thing I definitely notice is that Ice is a serious end hog.
Seriously, I took my elec/stone Dom through Purgatoria and I almost deleted him. Once I made it to SOland I gained a lot of appreciation for him. I'd say stick it out till 22 and SOs and re-evaluate. It's only 1 more level.
And yeah, AA is a huuuge end drainer for yourself. With my Ice/thorn, I had AA slotted for 5 end redux DOs during her teens just so I could use my other powers. On the other hand, it's a great defensive toggle sans alpha strikes. -
Nice. I just dusted off my level 41 Inv/Nrg the other day. Have you considered a quick badside move so you can get some shark action going?. Three potential cones would add some serious aoe to any tank.
Maybe something like this.

Quote:Oops. I was doing a super quick mids while putting off studying for my final. You are over the rule of 5 with both sweep strike and one thousand cuts with the cleaving blow. Plus the OP wanted to keep Hover. Also your attacks are lacking acc, the ones with just the KC in them. I usually put in another slot for ACC in them. I switched some of them around for the OP.

Quote:I figured the proc wouldn't fire off but at first. It's still a good chance of firing off with any group and extra rech is always good. I know from my Rad/Nrg fender that those procs add up fast. I was at Perma AM before any other IOing on that char. That's approx. 10 seconds (or more) rech per minute as long as I blasted. True, I had 4 of em slotted. This is all my opinion, take it for what it's worth, etc., etc.
As far as I know the FF proc in Earthquake will have a single chance to proc when you cast Earthquake and that's it. Any subsequent procs will affect the pseudo pet, which will do nothing for it. I'd say take that slot and put it to better use elsewhere.
Like Ice Sword maybe. Add an A/D or A/D/R from another set and it will actually have enough accuracy to hit reliably, and be at the ED cap for damage, which I would consider a good thing. Then again if you never exemp you can rely on your IO accuracy bonuses and are only shortchanging yourself a little on damage. Your call there.
I would want more recharge on Sleet. A lot more.
Chilling Embrace is a waste of endurance IMO. YMMV but I'd drop it and pick up Combat Jumping instead. A cheap, easy 2% defense and a LotG mule at the same time. Pure win.
I tend to skip Ice Slash on my /Icys. It deals more damage than Ice Sword but the difference is all lethal damage, so in many situations where you're facing lethal resistances it's worse DPA than Ice Sword despite being at tier 8 in the set. If you really like the swords obviously you'll want to keep it, but I think you're a little over-saturated on attacks and could probably stand to drop one, and that's the one I'd pick. If you move those slots to Brawl you can keep the set bonuses and pick up a LotG mule in its place. Like Stealth. Add in a stealth IO and you'll be able to stealth missions too.
At that point you'd be close enough to perma-dom I'd start taking a real close look at what other changes I could make to get more recharge without sacrificing too much defense.
I'd put together an alternate build for your consideration, but it seems like every time I do that the OP never returns to the thread so I'm not going to waste my time. No offense.
I love CE on my /ice blaster. I know it doesn't have the -dam in the Dom version, but the -rech is a good damage mitigator (I play lots of fenders). On the other hand. I usually get Combat jumping on any char.
I see your point on sleet. I was just thinking of once per group, but I'll see what I can pull to get some more rech in it.
as far as the ice slash is concerned. I took it as a big hitter sure, but mostly as a set mule. I guess I don't really need the capped S/L defense with earthquake. That would save me some slots i could use for other stuff. Like CJ and upping some damage. -
Here's an example if you went positional defensive route. Might work better

Quote:Nice thought. That would be between -120% and -200% resists at all times on your hard targets. Soft targets would fall so fast as to not be noticedIt sounds like you are running two instances of the game at one time (through one method of another). If that's the case, then two Traps/Sonics would not be smart. As Pyro Master said, Traps is a very active Defender primary because, well, you are placing traps for every mob. Really, only Seeker Drones and FFG will follow you around. Your auto-follow character won't be contributing much in that case.
2 Sonic/Sonic Defenders would leave your auto-follow character contributing much more. At the beginning of the mission, you put up the auto-follow character's Sonic Dispersion, have them put up shields on you, then toggle Disruption Field. Switch over to your active character, put his/her Sonic Dispersion on, and shield the auto-follow character. Finally, target the auto-follow character with Disruption Field.
Now, both your characters are benefiting from shields and stacked Sonic Dispersion, plus any bad guys that gets within melee distance are going to be turned into butter by TWO Disruption Fields. And that's all before the application of Sonic Siphon, Liquify, or the debuffs from the attacks in Sonic Attack.
I'd still do one of each, but that makes you pause for a second. -
Altitus has hit again and I'm looking at making an Earth/Ice Dom. Has anyone played this to a high level? Looks like a really solid build for team/solo range/melee. Maybe not uber damage, but really solid all around.
Advantages include BU on Earthquake and Bitter Ice Blast adding up to -25.6% tohit aoe and a whopping -40.5% tohit on a single target. Lots of -Def everywhere. Decent stun/aoe immob. Good amount of -rech.
Am I missing anything? Any advice?
Here's my proposed build

Quote:Yeah, the short duration really affects WoC and you will never see them overlap unless you do something like BU. While that's on you can actually overlap and with some of the crazy super recharge IO builds out there, you can pull it off closing in on half the time. The problem I've seen with WoC and a similar power (Arctic Air) on ice Doms is that, while I don't have the numbers in front of me, the confuse duration is apparently shorter than the "pulse" rate of the power. In other words (for example) you have a confuse that tries to affect available targets once every two seconds, but the confuse only has a duration of 0.5 second. Or something like that. Again, I don't have the numbers handy. But the net effect is that nearby enemies are confused too infrequently to be useful, and often aren't even confused long enough to launch an attack at an ally; they turn, look at a buddy for a moment, then turn back to you and drill you anyway.
Really pointless, yes?
The Contagious Confusion can turn this into a "real" confuse power because, in the moment that a target is "lolconfused", there's a chance for a confuse to jump to another target, and THAT confuse effect has (I think) an 8 second duration.
That's an awful lot of effort to go to just to make an essentially useless power worth having.
To the OP, it sounds like fun to see what can be pulled off. With all the confuses/stuns/kb you will have available (plus sleep/hold/terror) you should be able to pull off a pretty fun build.
The devs really should take a look at the rech on Mass Confusion. It's just too long.
Dam altitus is creeping up again. -
This is not the delete you are looking for... Ok, that didn't work.
Personally, if ice slick, artic air, shiver, chilling embrace dont' excite you for damage mitigation you might not want an ice/ice char. That adds -165% rech to your enemies and most of em flopping on their backsides. When they do fire, they have a decent chance to be firing at their own ppl. Once you get past the alpha, it's a very underappreciated setup for control/damage mitigation. and Flash freeze will help a ton with the alpha if you are solo. If in a group, let the wookie win... er, let the tank/brute lead.
As to the damage ice has, it's not the flashiest numbers, but I've been told it has nice activation times so you can fire off bunches in a hurry. That will help you not to feel like you are wasting your time waiting for your next primary power to recharge.
Plus all those slows and kdowns will really come in handy for your ice mastery (all the kids are taking it) and your sleet/ice storm.
