Quote:I never thought that deeply into their behaviors, but you made very good points. The OP seems reasonably well answered, so I decided to address bad NPC ally behavior more generally.
I think NPC Allies ignore stealth on an engaged enemy in much the same way NPC enemies do. From my experience, once you've engaged an enemy, turning on Stealth/Invis doesn't make the enemy lose track of you, even if you are beyond the point they should be able to see you. It's part of the reason Placate and Stealth are two different effects.
Regarding Dietrich/Fusionette and racing forward - I wouldn't be surprised if they have the same power that Longbow Eagles do (Positioning?) that forces them to engage from range. (I also wouldn't be surprised if Dietrich was considered an Eagle herself, if an EB one, but that's another topic.)The AI has no sense of direction, only distance. This doesn't matter so much to Eagles, because if they are running away from you, the only other thing they'll run into are allied Longbow. For your NPC ally on the other hand, all they will run into are more enemies, or at best empty spaces. If you could keep the enemy between the ally and the next spawn, would that make the helper run backward to empty space, or would the ally charge past the enemy anyway?
Another problem I have encountered with NPC allies comes when I am running Tactics, due to the +Perception it grants. Suddenly my NPC ally can see further down that long hallway to the next enemy spawn. Since it has no sense of self-preservation, it runs to attack and leaves me behind. Turning off Tactics often alleviates the problem.
I will agree that NPC allies can often be more trouble than they are worth. However, if the AI for them was better, I'd expect the devs would use the same AI for enemies. I'll leave whether smarter enemies is a good thing for another thread. -
FF = force fields
Combat allies are the reason I try to fit in Aid Other in my builds. But do like RedRacoon suggested: lead them back to a safe, out of the part of the map, then run away quickly.
Edit:
Well then the other thing you can try is to: don't rescue the hostage. Sneak past the guards and proceed to complete the rest of the mission first. Free the hostage after the map has been cleared. -
Yeah, I was using Windows Media Player. It seemed fine in the past, but I'll check out the other apps you recommended. I haven't played with camcorder much, so I haven't kept up with the tools.

I've been having a really difficult time with the videos I took at the Summit. I don't know if it's because I set it for the AVCHD format or what. When I copy the files off the memory card to my hard drive, playing the .mts files, the videos are so extremely pixelated, they're not viewable. However, screening the videos directly off the memory cards with the camcorder, they look perfect.
And to make matters worse, MS Movie Maker takes 3-4 hours to prep the video files so they're viewable to be edited. Maybe it's because I'm working with the files directly on the memory card, but they're the only ones I can trust to be good. Then another 3-4 hours to save the file to .wmv. So each video takes half a day just to find out if it is crap or not! After adjusting some settings, I've finally managed to reduced the occurence of the pixelation significantly. I really don't know why, though.
Anyway, I've uploaded 2 so far:
Design a Power Set Workshop
Design a Costume Set Workshop
I have to re-do the others with this new setting. I'll post them when I can.
Of course, the reason to watch my videos even if you've already watched the UStream videos is that I swung my camcorder back and forth so you can actually see your fellow players speaking along with the Devs and audience reactions. Hopefully, you'll get a better feel of being there with us.
Edit:
Some more videos uploaded:
Welcome & Keynote Address
Flik Song & Paragon Market Panel
I haven't had time to play around with the VLC yet, so these are just with my current methods, so you'll see some pixelation.
Edit:
The final 2 videos are now uploaded:
Make Your Case: Zone Revamp Panel
Story Lore & Endgame Panel -
After 8 years, I discovered today that the forums are blocked at work.
(I was off yesterday.)

Like others have said, priority goes to the click anti-mez (Indomitable Will, Practiced Brawler, etc). If none, then Air Superiority. Unfortunately, as I continue to respec my characters to Inherent Fitness, I've had to sacrifice AS on quite a few of them. And finally, if I have it, Hasten.

Quote:I was blowing my nose during dinner across the table from you, but that's because I seem to be allergic to California. This was my third visit to California and it has reconfirmed my conditions during the other 2 times. I forgot to bring Zyrtec alongOkay, 'fess up. WHO GAVE ME THE CRUD!? My throat's been bugging me all day, and now I have a runny nose. Don't mess with me--we have the CDC here in Atlanta, where they keep the SERIOUS crud...
and my bro only had a couple of Claritins on hand which has little effect on me
. Strangely, my bro who normally has very bad hay fever back home was completely unaffected while we were there.

Quote:FYI for future reference:[*]Rental car: Renting a car is probably going to be cheaper than cabbing it everyplace or relying on rides. Just take into account what I said about the parking situation at Dinah's. If you rent a car, fill it up before you return it! Otherwise, my rental would have cost me $9.28 a gallon!
My bro and I took a cab from the SFO airport to Dinahs. Apparently, there's a 50% surchargeif the destination is more than 15 miles out of San Fran. I found a lamented chart in the back seat pocket of the cab listing approximate fares to what must have been 4 dozen cities and towns around SF. Our ride took a little more than half an hour and the base fare came to a tad under $74, so plus 50% made the total almost $111.
Of course, then we added a tip on top of that.
Was a nice driver, though.
For the return ride, Dinah's front desk said they could make arrangements with a Towncar to pick us up on the morning. The front desk person said it would cost about $85. Woot! Cheap! But the driver said $95 (plus tip). Oh, well.

I was the guy videoing at the back of room. I'll try to have them uploaded on Monday. Only one significant issue when my memory cardfilled up in the middle of a question. I lost about a minute.
-
I just checked in with my bro. I think that was Texas_Justice behind us at the counter. I would have asked, but as is typical I blanked on his name right at that moment
-
Well, I'll be bringing my camcorder and was planning to record as much of the day as possible. I need to justify the expensive toy.
I won't have a laptop along, so I won't be able to start uploading until monday maybe. I'm not going to arrive home until late sunday.
In the original Pummit announcement discussion thread, a few other people mentioned that they were going to be videoing too.
Edit:
Here are my videos:

Side note: most people have their power stips on the floor, but I like to keep mine on my desk or somewhere higher up. I don't like the idea of absent mindedly playing footsie with the power plugs and then getting shocked. Or even just accidentally kicking or hooking one of the plugs out of the strip and crashing something. As can be seen in most of the set ups in this thread, there's a lot of room behind the wide flat screen monitors. Getting the strip off the floor also makes the available sockets more convenient for when you want to temporarily plug in a charger or something.

For my ranged characters, I move around a lot. Mostly to maximize the cones.

Your photo is dark probably because your screens are too bright relative to the room lighting which caused your phone camera to under expose the shot. Try either turning the screens off or have them display less white space. Unless, of course, if your room is that dark normally. If so, how is that solar powered keyboard working out for you?

Speaking of which, I recall that players can't do an underscore in their names.

Quote:Oooh! You said "member".(I know, I know. If I need to ask I shouldn't do it, but I thought I would ignore that and ask anyway)
Anyway, on Freedom I own the name "Staff Member"You're lucky you're not playing a different game.

Only if there's something about that name that's against the EULA, otherwise: nope!

I haven't gone up against any new types of Vahz recently, but in terms of the traditional Vahz, getting rid of the Reapers and Mortificators was key. They control the aggro for the Cadavers and Abominations. Without Reapers and Morties around, you could pretty much walk right up to the Cadavers and Abominations and they'd ignore you. That's because Cadavers and Abominations have a really short perception range. Combine that and their really short term threat memory, you should be able to run past them most of the time without any reaction.
If you do need to engage, pull the Reapers or Morties and do you best to take them out while ignoring the Cadavers and Abominations, then fall back until the rest lose interest. Then you should be able to pull the Cadavers and Abominations one at a time because they're stupid. -
Well, given that the Invention Coupon isn't really giving you a discount, I'd suggest you go somewhere else for a day job. For now.
-
That really is a nice looking Inventing cube.

Quote:Like I said, I grew up with "man", so I use "man". I associate "dude" as more of a west coast term, probably due to popularity of the Valley Girl movie. As for "bro", it has always given me the impression of a surburbanite pretending to be inner-city. Whereas "son" definitely appears to be ghetto originated, maybe a rebellious form of "man".To continue this tangent, what "dialog exclamation" do you use?
Around here, it seems to be "dude", "man" and "bro" in descending order of frequency ("bro" is not very common at all). I use "dude" the most, and only say "bro" to bother my brother.
And back to the question of the alternate word for throw, I personally would use "toss" in conversation without thinking. But if I wanted to be a little more informal, then I'd consciously decide to use "chuck". -
Quote:The paragonwiki page.Is there some sort of "Who's who of Red Names" posted somewhere?
And Zombie_Man's spreadsheet. -
Soda and chucked. I'm in the NE.
I've never heard of "chunked" and I can't fathom how it came to be especially when everybody knows the tongue twister about woodchucks chucking wood.
On a tangent:
I grew up hearing "man" as an dialog exclamation on TV, movies, books, etc. Like "Hey, man!", "Man, that was great!", "Man, did you see that?" Nowadays, I'm hearing the kids saying "son" instead and they sound so stupid. "Son" just doesn't have the impact as "man". And more importantly, I don't know how people not find that it sounds very demeaning while they're being referred to in such a way. -

One of the reviews I read about this monitor when I was researching it mentioned that according to the monitor's specs it is supposed to sense your ambient light level and then automatically adjust the monitor's brightness or something. However, based on their testing, it doesn't seem to do anything.
