Ustream and the Summit

Hopefully the summit will be recorded and can be watched after the fact.

Normally I watch the Ustream on my phone while on lunch at work. Not today. Last week I spent the whole time fighting Ustream to get chat, voice, OR some sort of video... I could manage one, but not two and all three was Ustream laughing in my face as it kept logging me out.
And that was just last week. Generally it takes me 30 minutes to get going merely because of how the Ustream ads work and show up on the screen. When the login box pops up *behind* the video screen I get a wee bit ticked off.
I hope something is managed for the Pummit other than Uscream because I'm not using it again

We're hopeful that streaming from a location where there's significantly lower bandwidth usage than here at the office will lend itself to a better stream for viewers.
We were evaluating an alternative but found that it didn't meet our needs for broadcasting. Given some more time (post-summit) we could probably find something suitable but for the Summit, we have to go with what we know.

From what I recall, the stream from the last Pummit was fine. It's not so much a Ustream issue as it is a Paragon Studios network bandwidth/Zwill's system issue.

Well, I'll be bringing my camcorder and was planning to record as much of the day as possible. I need to justify the expensive toy. 
I won't have a laptop along, so I won't be able to start uploading until monday maybe. I'm not going to arrive home until late sunday.
In the original Pummit announcement discussion thread, a few other people mentioned that they were going to be videoing too.

Not all the panels were recorded, which was a major beef with some of the people that were unable to attend. I haven't been following the Player Summit news too closely so I'm not sure if they're recording all of them this year, but I know they heard our views on it from last year.

Firefox 3.5.8 with Adblock Plus. I don't see video ads at all.
I use a free separate chat client, Icechat. Icechat is a generic IRC client. I only have to log in once, and I see the chat that gets disrupted by the UStream web chat client forgetting the login.

How to set up an IRC client with Ustream.
IRC clients are not officially supported by Ustream, but you can configure them to sign in.
The benefits are many:
Once you've got it set up, you don't have to mess with Ustream's web chat client logging you out randomly.
You don't have to worry about not being seen by the Ustream chat.
Able to have the IRC client sit on a top window while surfing the forums.
Able to customize your chat stream preferences (ie. colors).
Able to go buffer more of the chat stream.
Able to save the chat stream for later.
There are a few downsides though:
No fancy Ustream icons unless you get an IRC client that also does emotes. *
A bit complicated to set up.
* I use IceChat7, which does allow you to use emotes, and add custom emotes so you can get similar emotes with what Ustream has. However that is even more complicated than just setting up the client.
What you need to know:
Your Ustream Nickname and Password. Sign up to ustream first if you haven't got a ustream account.
IRC Server: chat1.ustream.tv
Chat Server Port: 6667
Channel name: #paragon-studios
Your nickname: Your Ustream Nickname
Server Password: Your Ustream Password

On a serious note, why doesn't the chat feature on ustream work most of the time, it makes me very angry to the point where I've actually had to send in my computer for repairs because I've kicked it out of anger today...
