And it'd probably be uncomfortable for those who are already wearing prescription glasses.
  2. Another thing you can do is: if you know what you are going to want for your build, put in bids early. Recipes are usually cheaper, of course. If you have the luxury of time, you won't be pressured into bidding at "buy it nao!" prices. It'd be convenient if you have a personal SG with Base to safely store your purchases until the right time to use them. You can also store rare Salvage drops that you might need later.

Confusing, I know. Hopefully that's clear....
So the six un-catalyzed pieces from a Set are considered same as the six catalyzed pieces of the same Set? That is, I could not use 2 batches of the same Set in my build even if I catalyze one batch of them?
  4. Thanks Tony.

Now that it's back, I invite you all to send me some post-Valentines day friend requests.

  5. Looks good.

    Now animate it.
  6. Can you include a brief outline of where to go for each phase?
  7. I'm being logged out even before the login successful screen finishes refreshing. Sometimes even through consecutive logins. Unfortunately, I can't even blame the recent Forum maintenance because this started happening the day before it.

It's happening at both my home and work computers, both on Chrome.
  8. I can't even get the geyser at the bottom of the Ski Chalet to fling me back up to the top of the ski slope with any reliability. Unless I tilt my view a certain way, I'm always slamming my face into the rocks.
  9. I was always under the impression that the cone affect caps were:

    - 3 to 5 for melee cones
    - regular AOE cap of 16 for ranged (primarily) damage cones
    - 10 for ranged damage+control cones

Of course, I can't rationalize Fearsome Stare's 16, but I never really thought about it.
  10. Necro-thread arise!

After paying more attention over the last few months, aznlj2001 is correct. There is really is something about the Grandville map that the STF and the hero morality mission uses that causes my sound loop. Every time I am on it, regardless of which character I am using, I get massive sound looping. Now it only occurs during intense battles when everyone is spamming their powers (for the STF, during the fights with the Patron AVs and occasionally while taking down the buffing towers; for the hero morality mission, during the ambushes), so I can't tell which sound effect is the culprit. I am not experiencing any sound looping anywhere else in the game.

"Why" that you don't have a lot of Inf? If you're willing to learn, then visit the Market board. Characters that are not played a lot actually helps with Marketeering because you're not as concerned about keeping their Market slots clear for new activity and you can wait for your price to buy or sell to come around.
  12. Didn't /vault come with the Freedom release? I recall reading about it at that time. I thought or, at least, I had gotten the impression that it was the latest and last reward of the old vet reward system.
  13. He said she was using a Free account, so no Controllers.

Personally, I would suggest that as a new player, she should go with a Blaster. You really can't go with a more simple role than a Blaster. Just hang back from the mess and shoot. Run if you need to. Other Archetypes have more responsibilities like aggro management or buffing and debuffing which may be too much to think about for the uninitiated.

Blasting is also easier for those with poor targeting skills. Because they're further back from the battle, they have a better view of the scene along with more time to pick and choose their targets. Still, remember that Ctrl-Tab is the default for target nearest enemy. It's very helpful if she needs a reference point for retargeting when Tabbing.

Well, there's a mini-game you can play if you have Fly. You start off by going up way high, then you either let yourself fall by turning off Fly or jump off the roof of the building you're on. The object of the game is to see how close you can get to the ground without hitting before reactivating Fly. It's essentially a solo game of "chicken". If you're still kinda high off the sidewalk, you were chicken. If you take damage, you lost.

Of course, back with the Blaster inherent Defiance, the original version of it gave you a damage boost scaled to how hurt you were. Thus Blasters were encouraged to get themselves almost dead for maximum damage. Attempting suicide by jumping off buildings or falling out of the sky were proven tactics.
  15. The Athlon 64 3200+ is a single core processor, right? I had a night-to-day performance difference when I upgraded to a multi-core processor several years ago. Note: you may need to buy a new motherboard to go with your new multi-core CPU. Which in turn may also lead you to consider replacing your RAM for the new motherboard. At some point, you may have to consider whether it'll be cheaper and less aggravating to just buy a whole new system.
  16. I have bought several systems from Cyberpower PCs over the past decade and a half.

$2600 might have been a good price 8 years ago, but nowadays you should be able to get pretty decent performance with something in the $1000-1500 range unless you have additional reasons for needing a high end system. Plus a cheaper system now will mean that it'll be easier to consider ditching it for a new one when the time comes.
  17. I guess it's apathy for me too. I have less than a dozen characters who have even a few individual Purple IOs slotted. Really, I'm only just coming around to seeing some use for the Hami-Os I've got stored (mainly the Def/End and Res/End ones). My builds are composed of just regular IO sets, nothing special or really optimized. So my C-ranked Inf bank roll is already more than I need.
  18. If you plan to do something "special", always take a purple Insp and a breakfree first. Nothing spoils the big moment of you jumping into a massive crowd only to fall asleep. And then being chopped up soon after.

When I bring up this thread, I can't see the image in the OP. But when I quote the OP, I can see the image link in the reply editing mode. Of course, it doesn't show either when I publish my post with the quoted OP. Why is this? I'm using Chrome, by the way.

It was in the late 30s that influence caught up with XP and overtook it, and players were earning influence faster than they could outlevel their enhancements.

As I said, I sold *everything* (I would exit missions to go sell TOs) and I was a blaster which means I was in debt all the time. And I *barely* had enough influence to keep myself in SOs until about 38. Unless you farmed blinkies or transferred influence from an alt (and there was no way to email yourself influence back then: you had to transfer through helpful intermediaries or friends) its essentially impossible that any launch character could have had more influence than me per level, and it was very hard for me.

And the whole enhancements degrade over three levels, but SOs are sold every five levels thing didn't help at all.
One of the things I dreaded about COV when it launched was being poor again. It was like walking off the boat as a new immigrant with just the costume on my back and not an Inf to my name. I ran the Cap SF a couple of dozen times on my first character to stop my leveling (no ability to turn off XP then) for the extra Inf boost and the SO drops for the SF completion reward.

    Using Items

This sounds like a low level mission so his trays shouldn't be filled up. However, since the OP sounds like a newbie, perhaps he still only has powers tray #1 opened and it is filled with assorted powers.

FrogDave, have you expanded your powers trays to show tray #2 and #3? If not, on your powers tray's header bar, on the far right, there's a little up arrow. See example (note: mine is a down arrow because I've already expanded to 3 trays). Click it twice to expand your trays. Three trays might look like overkill right now as a lowbie, but you'll be filling them out later especially if you have permanent "temp" powers you like to use.

Note: if you find that your trays are getting cluttered with power buttons that you never use, you can right-click them to remove from your tray. Don't worry if you're not sure if you may want it later. All your powers, including temporary ones, are listed in your Powers window (click the "Powers" link on your powers header bar to open it). You can drag and drop powers from Powers window back to your Trays anytime you want.

Note: if and when you find that 3 trays aren't enough for you, you can click that little plus sign (+) next to the arrow to open additional free floating single bar trays. You can right-click on these floating trays to make them into rectangle shapes or you can shove it against the left or right side of your screen and they'll deform into L-shapes. Of course, you can right-click them to remove the tray if you don't need them anymore.
  22. I remembered it like Stabby said. In fact, I was in COV Beta when they made the change to the Newspaper missions because people were out leveling the low level zones before they could get to the Mayhem mission. I haven't participated in a Beta since, so I don't know if the reasoning changed when they set up Radio missions.

I had Aid Self and to use it, I had to retreat to a safe spot, thus hit and run. I had 0% defense, so there was no way to use it in the middle of a fight. That's why I delved into sapping to open up enough of a pause in the fight to heal up.

Back before Elec Armor had a self heal, "kill 'em quick" was the only way to play unless you wanted to do hit and run.

As a side note, I had always thought it was funny that the Devs pulled Ice Armor from Brutes in COV Beta because the slows were hindering Fury generation. Meanwhile on my Elec Armor Brute, out of desperation, I developed a play style where I would do everything I could to keep the enemies from being able to attack because they could pretty much auto-hit me and I was getting shredded.

Anyway, I do slot some end mods in my powers and I find that sapping does help with longer fights.
