Quote:My issue with the power isn't as much the self-damage component as then being unable to heal myself by any means. i'm terrible at hanging back and supporting from a distance, so being in a situation where Absorb Pain is needed means that i'm probably taking damage as well, and if that shot of healing isn't enough to suddenly turn the battle around i'll have to choose between faceplanting or having to leg it. Having to run or hang back isn't wrong, but it does run counter to my normal in-their-face playstyle.Well, I have to admit - this caster debuff of AP is really minimal; a LOT more minimal than I remember it being. My character from issue 4 days was level 12 or 16 when I got it ...and back then, when I used it, I went from full to maybe 1/3..yet now, it barely seems to tickle. In fact, I had to use it about 5 times before i even noticed my health going less than half.

Quote:Exactly. As was clearly stated for anyone who actually read any of the threads announcing it or watched any of the videos that did the same. The changes to the blast sets are intended to improve the blast sets. While i like most of the changes i was slightly disappointed, but not surprised, that the pseudopet-based blasts for Defenders and Corruptors are also having their damage corrected as well. The only Blaster improvement is the Sustain feature in the secondaries.
The Ranged set changes weren't just for Blasters.
While any VIP can go read the detailed threads and patch notes in the i24 forums, the actual reveals of the upcoming changes are several weeks old at this point. Several were in the General Discussion section, but at this point they've fallen off the first page due to being old news. Still, it's not hard to find the info if you're so inclined.
i welcome the changes since i normally skipped the crashing nukes and snipes and now i will probably use some of them.
The Blaster-specific changes of adding Sustain powers to the secondaries, and the other Blaster-specific tweaks are very nice as well. -
Quote:True, but i doubt Jack was the only manager who could've brought things together when it became more than Rick could handle. Again, like i said, the game quite possibly would have taken longer or launched as something far less fun if someone else had been brought in, but he wasn't father who created the game like the post i was replying to appeared to be stating; he was more of a midwife who was brought in to assure a smooth delivery and deal with complications. And it was an excellent launch, so he succeeded admirably at it.not to put too fine a point on it, but if what i have read on the topic is to be believed, rick was, while a very smart man with some great ideas, a lot worse than having "little management experience" and the game was pretty much a disorganized mess till jack came in and actually focused things. Video games are commercial ventures as much as artistic ones, and a great idea with no coherent vision is going to crash and burn. Those who have been following the 38 studios collapse can attest to the fact that a good game and a lot of passion cannot save a critically incompetent business plan.

Quote:Umm, not to completely disagree, but Rick Dakan was the one who originally got the project started and Jack joined in later. Which was largely because while Rick had been a game designer for years he had little management experience. Jack is a huge fan of the superhero genre, but he was not the one who who started City of Heroes even if he did have more of the experience required to manage the team and bring it all the way to launch. That there would be no City of Heroes without Jack is a rather dubious claim. It certainly might have taken longer or been less successful, but not happening at all without him seems pretty unlikely. You know, for all the grief people give States, they tend to forget, there would be no City of Heroes if not for him. Yeah, he made a lot of sketchy design choices, but he's still become a bit of a Scapegoat Creator. [/devilsadvocate]

Quote:Absorb Pain remains eminently skippable. The only reason i've taken it is for the humor value of killing my emps in non-combat areas. As far as build and play goes i agree completely with Aggelakis. If it were Fiery Aura or Ice blast, I wouldn't give it a moment's thought.
My current Emp/elec defender got it's tier 4's by hosting iTrials - so I would think those that might be inclined to speak about the way my emp was built might think again before commenting because I had the league star.
But, to be fair, I was gone from the game for about 4 years. The sneaky devs might have actually changed the power to where the caster debuff of absorb pain might not be such a risk. (I suppose, instead of being defensive about it, I should have asked for more clarification on whether or not it's been changed since issue 5)
Before I left CoH, Absorb Pain was never considered a make/break power choice. Unlike Fort, CM, AB and the RAs, one could pass it by and no one would worry about it. However, things do change in this game, and the patch notes don't always have everything in them. (Also, I've only recently given patch notes their due dilligence. )
For what it's worth - I have had a discussion with an advocate for AP and will make no promises, but will try to find some time to make a second build and see how it goes.
Thanks for the input/insight. -
Quote:Having used a variety of chainsaws in the past I have to say that chainsaw is huge compared to any wielded by human beings. Although pavement saws look similar to chainsaws and are the size you're imagining...Eh, the chainsaw isn't as impressive as I thought it would be. I thought it would be something like the width of the swords we have now. aka..huge. That chainsaw looks kinda...dinky.
If possible I would love regular (noisy) and 'stealth' versions of the chainsaw. -

There she is playing Gunstar Heroes with her brother, while making fun of 4chan and going into a massive (and hilariously adorable) rage fest. -
i thought doing that was a stress reliever... *grumbles* Now i'm gonna skip the Mary Kay meeting and see if my stress goes down.

i'm going to mostly be working and looking at houses this weekend, so my playtime will be limited anyway. Pity, since a weekend inside would almost be nice after the sunburn i received today.

*huh* It's been forever and a few decades since i read that book, so i'd forgotten almost all about Bokononism. It doesn't help that i started reading heavily around nine when i picked up an aunt's collected works of Edgar Allen Poe during a visit, never really stopped, and at this point i've forgotten more literary details than some people will ever read.
Also: A mole of moles could form ice 9. <.<

That's not a bad idea. Or, for example, Insulation Shield could debuff damage when used on an enemy.

Quote:For some reason it made me think of this...Back in January or February I was discussing a Blaster issue with Synapse when he said these words:
The meta game in I24 is going to be changing.
Well, yeah, I'm sure it will be. Shrug.
So I've finally patched the game client and had some time to look around, at the blaster powerset changes, the new powersets, the power pool changes, the power pool addition, the invention system changes, the invention enhancement additions...
Well holy crap that was certainly an understatement.

He was sent from a distant stellar star that is far away by their Department of Redundancy Department to post threads about topics that already have threads about their topics being posted about the topic.
The thing that makes the threads especially special is that they are initially started by the man from the arth, and not some other forum posting forumite who isn't dug.
i hopefully anticipate that this descriptive explanation actually really makes the distinctive difference transparently clear.

Came for the slashfic, left slightly disappointed.

Quote:The changes are to all blast sets and are not AT-specific.These all look like really good changes and I am very, very, very excited. Especially Ancillary/Patron/Power Pool customization.
I do have a question: The Overview page mentions changes to some blasts (increasing range) and to snipe powers in reference to Blasters only. Will Dominator/Corruptor/Defender versions of Blaze, etc also get the range increase? What about the fast-snipe with 22% tohit?
Quote:I know there had been some talk about making Dominator snipes faster not with a tohit requirement, but under Domination - what happened with that? -
Iggy Pop is looking unusually young and vital in that shot.

Quote:This is very welcome. i was always puzzled by the values with the original damage resistance set bonuses anyway. As mentioned in many threads back when IO sets were first revealed: "Wait, so damage resistance is at best worth half as much as the same amount of defense so they made the damage resistance set bonuses half the defense bonuses and much harder to acquire? Bwuh?!" And it didn't get much better after that, so this is great news.I didn't over look this actually. Mez Resistance set bonuses got converted into Damage Resistance/Mez Resistance.
I believe the +All Status Resistance uniques also received a buff.

The fact that every non-consumable being promoted this week is something i already have, and the consumables are things i don't need, is more than offset by what i'm expecting to spend points on next week.

Yowza! The new reveals are just about as nice as what had already been revealed. <3
