Quote:Nope, no chance at all. It will be a chilly day in Heck before we get things like tights with colored patterns, a variety of capes, boots and gloves with assorted styles like tight and folded over, Chest logos, mask patterns for faces or anything else that's iconic of the gold and silver age comic book superheroes. i would expect that all that would've been in the game almost at launch if there was ever any intention having a superheroic theme to the game and that ship has long since sailed.Superheroes are kinda big in Hollywood right now.
There's so much more superhero stuff that could be added to this game. Costumes alone: golden/silver/bronze age costume packs would be dope. Maybe even a 90s pack full of stubble, long hair/ridiculous mullets, pouches, imaginary muscles, and invisible feet. (Okay maybe not a 90s pack...)
But yeah. Anime...yawn. Mythology...yawn. Tron...yawn. Traditional MMO styles...yawn. Fedoras...yawn.
Let's get some superhero ish up in this bish!
And they're certainly not going to have 21st century superhero comic stuff like metallic and shiny costumes with glowing accents and details. Nope, never going to happen.
Someone forgot to let the original Devs know that Western superheroes have never drawn on mythology or worn hats or had glowy stuff, ever. Maybe if there's a CoH2 they'll correct all that. -
Quote:Incidentally, why post a rant about a desire for playable solo Incarnate content in the section titled "Archetypes & Powers General Discussion" when there's a section clearly labeled "City Life - CoH & CoV General Discussions"? Then again, if you'd bothered to look there you would've seen several threads discussing the upcoming solo additions.LOL, really? Yeah, I guess I am out of the loop. Thanks for the info and the flames. And all the fish.
Yes, sometimes other people actually pay attention to section titles and post in the logical sections, which i guess makes it hard to find for people who expect every single bit of info to be posted in a rather specific subforum regardless of relevance. Or something. Also, the Dev Digest and Community Digest are good places to look.
Quote:There ya go. Cause I had absolutely no idea stuff was already well into the pipe to be released.
I don't frequent the forums as much as I used to. Between work and the silly season and all. Not that I'm saying the devs need to do more to communicate with us. I mean, what can one expect. I like the devs and all, but they cant be calling us to let us know new stuff is on the way.
At least the solo stuff is in the works and not just something they've talked about.Quote:Agreed. I mean really it's the 21st century. You would think they would have a facebook page.
http://www.facebook.com/CityofHeroes
And what company doesn't use Twitter?
https://twitter.com/#!/CityOfHeroes
With the ease of video these days, you might expect that they would have a YouTube channel?
http://www.youtube.com/user/ncsoftnorcal?blend=7&ob=5
Or some kind of streaming video news source?
http://www.ustream.tv/user/Paragon_Live
Jeez, they don't even have news on the front of their official page, what do they think this is the 90s?

Info, is out there if you're willing to spend 2 min. looking for for it. -
Quote:Don't even go into the whole bull of well it doesn't make sense. News flash 99% of stuff in this game doesn't make any sense. Traversing multiple dimensions, fighting off demons, killing warewolves, shooting fire from your appendages, but having a Katana and a shield doesn't make any sense? Yeah okay, I have the brooklyn bridge to sell you, want to buy it?Quote:There may be a mechanical reason it can't happen. It could be that the game doesn't properly allow for two objects to occupy the same point of attachment on a character and dual weapons, thus far the existing two-handed melee weapons, and shields all occupy the left-handed slot.
Then again, it could just be that the devs randomly hate clipping.
Honestly it doesn't matter since Santorican wants what he wants and no reason against it is acceptable. The inanity of the thread's premise that Shield Defense is broken simply because he's not getting what he wants and every response made since then has made that much apparent. *shrug* Maybe some day the Devs might reconsider and alter the basic character models to accommodate this wish. If Santorican wants to hold his breath until it happens i will support his efforts 100%. -

Quote:Set it to close after launching the game and see how it does then.I never found that. It's a bit faster, but nowhere near enough to justify the grief it gives me
It sounds like leaving it running in the background might at least be contributing to the crashes.
In my case it takes the launcher about four seconds to load, so it hardly seems useful to leave it running anyway. Of course having a different system YMMV. -
So, wait, if we tech the tech it will fix the tech that teched up the tech and then the tech will once again tech properly? Make it so!
-
Quote:"Fixed." That word, i do not think it means what you think it means. Are there any plans on making it so Shield Defense can be used with two handed weapons? Its been quite sometime since this issue arose and I would love to make a Spines, Katana, TW, DB, Staff/Shield Scrapper.
The reason it cannot be used with two handed weapons is that it is not broken. Setting aside the technical issues with implementing this, from a real world and fiction standpoint shields of the type used in the powerset are almost never compatible with wielding two other weapons at once without having more than two arms or indulging the whims/whinges of 12 year old munchkins/Mary Sues. "Throkdormontraaaaal is a quadruple classed Barbarian/Barbarian/Ranger/Ranger who can wield a great sword and kite shield in each hand and use two bows at the same time using his Bracers of Spectral Limbs. He's also half dragon, half elf, half troll and two thirds Celestial." "Hey, where are you going? You haven't heard about his Armor of t3h Awesomez that he won by nut-punching Odin and Zeus at the same time." -
Quote:i've had the launcher set to close after launching CoH since it was implemented, and in every way it performs better than the old launcher did for me. It does what i need it to without fuss or difficulty and apparently i lack the relevant experience with other game launchers (other than the old CoH launcher, which was definitely worse) to compare it to in order to realize it's a "turd".So we're back to my first question: Why is the NCSoft Launcher such a turd? It provides ZERO customer benefit. It's crashy - I didn't know about the memory leak but it makes sense. This is a corporate decision that actually hinders the customer rather than providing an "improved customer experience"

Quote:i certainly hope so.TW is at least as popular as Time was when it came out on new characters - and everyone had to buy TW.
I have to assume that they sold a ton of the powersets, which means we should expect more pay for sets in the future.
And while people in game think the set is powerful, they didn't seem to buy them because they'd read about that. They just wanted a new set or liked the look.
Of course there may be no MM pet sets like this, just ones that can go on several AT's so lots of people will want them.
Especially since we're also getting more free (for VIPs at least)powersets.
Also, while i expect new buff/debuff sets will continue to be propagated to MMs i also expect at least one new MM primary in the next couple of issues, and that it will be free. -

Quote:*sighs*Yes, and this is my not happy face. We already had forum changes prepared and ready to go. Unfortunately a fairly serious issue popped up at the late stages of the maintenance which precipitated rolling the forum build back.
This is, as I was informed, a top priority to have addressed.
Next time.
Is this one of those situations where someone wrote custom code to link the forum software to the account verification system and then moved on leaving the code largely uncommented and undocumented, and now the people dealing with it have to figure what the original coder did? -
Quote:The Battalion of the Rikti Earth attacked them about a century ago and the Rikti drove them off.Do correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Rikti Homeworld once attacked by the Battalion, before the Nemesis Plot that is The Rikti War(s?) started? Or was it only the Kheldian planet?
Overall Rikti Earth is a relatively peaceful place as long as they're not attacked. Which is probably because the Rikti are one of the most powerful known species in the CoH universe. Consider that until the magical barier was erected, and some dialogue with their leaders occurred, the Rikti were sending attack ships the size of city blocks through enormous portals to Earth. It took one of the most powerful metahumans on Primal Earth to down one ship. And that's after only taking a year or so to tool up to a war footing after having had very small military for over half a century. -
Quote:Hell, i have a Night Widow who will never have the PPPs for concept reasons (she was originally made to go hero ASAP and was about level 23 when side switching went live), and since VEATs have no access to APPs that means she will only ever have access to the standard powersets. Yet i'm okay with that. i also have a hero who went redside a couple months ago to unlock PPP access. While there i also picked up a bunch of badges, but forgot Invader. That's okay since it just means i'll do it again sometime. The only reason i went back to blueside so quickly is to finish off some the late game arcs, especially the Praetorian stuff.*Looks at own post, looks at response regarding heroes "having it good"; sees no relation*
Uh... Is this maybe a sensitive issue for you? I mean, I'm all for antagonizing religiously-blue-siders as much as the next guy, but "you could roll a villain" is pretty far detached from "heroes need to get shafted."
Arachnos sets are Arachnos. There is a story-driven implementation with the Patron sets. While I admit to getting my giggles for telling bloobs to stop waiting for candy to fall into their mouths, it has everything to do with the players and nothing to do with "devs hate villains."
So no, heroes should not get Patron pools for the sake of equality; that's a matter of implementation. And stubborn blue-siders shouldn't get them either; that's a matter of orneriness. -
She's as responsible for losing things as the recruiter at a security company would be. Gregor watched over the vault at a facility in a different part of the city. Azuria's the one tapped as the MAGI rep at city hall to find people to recover the stuff after it goes missing under Gregor's watch.
-
Quote:i have a feeling it's related to them now having those tunnels under Atlas Park. They come up through a secret basement door hoping to steal some magic artifacts and realize too late that the vault with all the portable, powerful artifacts was actually in Galaxy City under Gregor's watch. That's when they realize that the secret entrance only opens from the tunnel side and all the corridors are crawling with heroes. "FFFFFFFFFFfffffffffff~!"Occasionally. i've seen several reports of Hellions who have apparently managed to sneak into city hall.

You always have to wonder how that works. Obviously he's not absorbing much visible light or Cyclops would have black, or at least very dark, skin. Which makes me wonder if he appears to be a black silhouette in ultraviolet and infrared views.
-
i think Villian the Villain should get his own power pools. He's been grievously neglected and forgotten by the world in general. He became Villian the Villain so that the world would learn to spell villain correctly only to have his face beaten in by Blotto the Clown from the Uh-Oh Squad. If anyone deserves his own power pools it's poor, battered Villian.

Quote:It's riffing on the conceit that cars, motorcycles, and scooters/hover bikes are somehow more "natural" than jetpacks, jump packs, piston boots, or rocket boots and thus more acceptable for natural origins.I have no idea what women giving birth has to do with Natural origin characters riding motorcycles, but I must say the mental image you summoned up here was... bracing.
Truly natural characters should be required to run everywhere and no turning on Sprint; no natural human can run at Sprint's speed for any length of time. Well, maybe if Sprint's endurance cost was multiplied by ten for natural origins.
