i usually don't lead teams, but when i do i usually give non-contributors at least until after the mission is completed before i take any action. If i notice someone consistently not participating after they enter the mission i will politely suggest they come help, and if i'm not the leader i will send the leader a private tell saying that i've noticed that teammate Y doesn't seem to be keeping up. If this continues past the first mission i will either send them a tell asking if there's a problem or publicly comment if i'm not the leader.
Past that it varies. If the leader refuses to do anything and the team actually needs their contribution i will usually leave the team, and if it's my team i'll kick them with a statement that they can come back later if they're willing to actually contribute. In either event i add a player note with one or two stars and what they were doing.
The other month i was on a Synapse TF team where i wasn't leader, but one of the other members sat at the door and did almost nothing for over half the missions, including the final fight with the Clockwork King. Now the slacker was someone with an account i recognized from the server global channel of having been around for years, and we really didn't require his help, but it was annoying to have him being an xp drain while doing almost nothing. Since we didn't really need his help i didn't push the issue, but i did add a note and will now avoid teaming with him for TF's or inviting him to teams i'm on in the future. -

Don't forget to keep your E-mail upto date, so you can drop in on free weekends.
Be safe, and I hope things turn round for youQuote:Indeed.
But from what I've seen, goodbye posts should really be called "be back later". Everyone I know who leaves comes back. I hope the OP is able to as well. -
Quote:i'd go with this. Accepting his claim as true, then he should petition the fool. Honestly, harassment is harassment, regardless of whether any of the involved parties are trying to RP or not.To be honest, I'm thinking that this is a pseudo-reply to Arctic Princess's thread, sort of an answer to "people bugging RPers suck!" with "RPers suck!". To be brutally honest, I'm doubtful that this happened at all.
Giving the benefit of a doubt that it actually did, though, the same answer pretty much applies. Ignore them. If they're actually "physically" harassing you (as much as one "physically" can in the game) by moving you around or keeping you from doing something you're trying to do, then petition them.
Still, the OP's claim sounds more like a cry for attention on the OP's part, or a search for a bridge, than an actual likely story.
Edit: Out of curiosity i took a quick look at the OP's posting history and a recent gem was in this thread: "I put that in my letter to show that I play on both sides of the field, an avid player that loves teaming and taking on large groups AND a complete jerk that gets his lulz from watching a Giant Monster 2 shot people in portal corps or making toon names like 'SGT. Titty Tassle'."
So, yeah, now i have even greater doubts about his claims. -
Quote:Lookin' for love in all the wrong places?I think it was you saying you were looking to pick up a few bears that maybe made people decide to leave the thread alone for a bit
Welp, back to the cannery. Honestly, not much chance for love there, i don't go for girls with the 'Innsmouth Look'... -
It's always funny to try to guess from posts who has some computer technical knowledge, familiarity and/or experience and who's just whinging out their butts. i have none of the above, i'm like an idiot savant without the savant portion, but i support Snow Globe's statement.

Eh, par for the course. i just wish i was enough of a veteran, and had enough knowledge of game mechanics to be offered as much respect.* (And, apparently, jealousy.) Actually, more than anything i'll bet it's the fact that i don't generally give or take orders within any sort of hierarchy, or even publicize my achievements, that keeps me out of most drama/respect kerfuffles. Though i will occasionally offer commentary on it it tends to bore me very quickly.
All that aside, i think it's really cool that Felecia goes out of her way to set up events for Champion players. i'm too much of a chaotic, lazy *** to do it myself.Keep it up.
(As Tank Girl would say, "Oi! Big ears! Amuse me!")
*Sadly, though, do i know of enough about how animation times, recharge and arcanatime factor into attack chains and effective dps to realize when certain things are not possible when playing within the game's normal limitations. So when i question certain claims being achieved legitimately it's because they are either not mechanically possible without using an exploit, or some portion of the claim is a lie. -
Presumably the same as if a player had damaged it. Confused enemies specifically give a reduced xp penalty for the damage they inflict, it's an attribute of the confused state.

Ah, it would appear that this is in fact my 'Power of Turn A'. While i like mobile suits as much as the next fan, it's not what i wanted, so i have nothing more to say for the moment. -

i expect Praetoria will be the same. However, Peregrine Island doesn't have War Walls either, so it would be interesting if Praetoria uses an expanded version of how Peregrine Island works. Perhaps appropriate edges of a zone are divided into multiple gate areas that take you to a corresponding gate area in the adjoining zone. You'd still have loading screens, but going East on Woolly Street to the next zone would put you at the Western end of Woolly Street in the new zone. i have no way of knowing how difficult it would be to do, but it would be a nice addition.

Quote:Well, Jack was apparently of the opinion that the less players knew how powers actually worked the more fun and balanced it would make the game, at least partially by preventing math fanatics and powergamers from having an advantage over casual players. Of course what actually happened was that the powergamers and math fanatics ended up being pretty much the only people who understood how powers worked and how to best use them. In fact, it was through the efforts and analysis of players like Arcanaville that the early Dev team became aware of a number of flaws, imbalances and unintended consequences in CoH's powers system. (Fun through obfuscation, much like security through obscurity, doesn't work so well in practice.) It would seem that the original powers code and formulas weren't well documented. Most of this was fixed in the first couple of years, but some of the things that came to light during this time were pretty amusing. Much of the quirkiness was in the area of how defense and tohit functioned in actual play as compared to how they were intended to work.Yeah, use the look at numbers. Those old descriptors were pretty much arbitrary descriptions that original Geko Power/AT guy that preceded Castle wrote. And I think you'd hit situations where it'd be like "Recharge: Long" vs "Recharge: Moderate" when moderate would take longer...the dude didn't really have any systematic approach he was just plugging stuff in and not looking at balance spreadsheets or anything (I suspect the same happened in Jack's new game)
At one point defense worked by adding together all applicable types when determining the target number an attack had to beat. So an attack tagged as being Energy, Smashing and Ranged would be defended against by adding all the defense types together that the target possessed. (For example, Energy Blasters hated going against Sky Raiders with their Force Field Generators.) This was eventually changed by making it so that only the highest defense value was used when defending against an attack. And then for a little while teaming with a Force Field Defender was almost pointless for an SR Scrapper because SR was all positional defenses and Force Field only granted typed defense. Of course SR was already hit hard by mobs getting tohit bonuses instead of accuracy bonuses for rank and level increases. And so on and so on.
In my opinion the current state of the game's mechanics and balance is worlds better than it was at launch, and the Dev team now has a pretty solid handle on how everything works. There are still some things that are very hard to alter because they're so deeply embedded in the game's code and basic design, but the team has done an amazing job finding workarounds to many of them, and/or finding the resources to revise the systems.
...
It's my impression that CO continued that early philosophy of balance by obfuscation in a way by giving numbers for some aspects of the powers (because it was finally accepted by the Cryptic Devs that players won't tolerate any less in current MMO's), but making the actual algorithms that determine power effects and interactions so complicated that even the sort of statistical analysis done by players in the early days of CoH will not easily pin down power numbers and rules. In some ways it appears to have bitten them in the *** even worse than the original approach of not giving the numbers in that it's made balancing and adjusting powers and interactions between powers even harder. -
IIRC, it's also dependent on how many +Max end bonuses you have from sets and accolades since the higher your maximum endurance the more returns you get on each % of recovery. Still, most of my alts use the chance for end proc since it works even when recovery is debuffed and slot another 1-2 pieces from the set.

Quote:The Rikti were transformed in the Rikti centuries ago IIRC, so in all likelihood there were never any Hamidon or Nemesis equivalents since their social and mental structure is so different from the sort of civilization that spawned either. Having diverged from the timeline of Primal Earth and most of the other known alternate Earths so long ago there are few, if any, points of correspondence. Rikti have their own conflicts and deviations from societal norms/consensus, but they do not even have quite the same sort of thought processes as a baseline. Both true and not true. Yes Nemesis provoked them (run Dark Watcher's arc, especially the final mission for details, and then the Lady Grey Task Force for the full story).
However, the fact that there is no Praetorian Nemesis is irrelevant. Both Rikti world and Praetorian world are alternate Earths. I've often wondered what happened to Rikti Nemesis, for example, and Rikti Hamidon. -
Quote:Those powers are also set to not unlock until you train for the same reason.Precisely. If you were able to teleport out of the tutorials, it would mess up your contact structure. Therefore, these powers are not available. Do NOT expect this to change. Ninja Run, on the other hand, wouldn't actually break anything by being available at lower level. Maybe they will change it and make it available sooner some day.
Not broken at all. Well, no more so than Flares in Fire Blast doing fire damage. -
Perhaps it was copied and pasted from a similar attack in another powerset? Possibly Energy Melee. Also, a lot of the original powersets used almost the same flavor/descriptive text with just a few words altered for similar attacks.
Then there's the fact that some powers had different effects back during CoH beta and not all the text was updated when the powers changed. There are still some player and NPC quick power descriptions that refer to effects that the powers haven't had since before CoH went live. Minor descriptive errors, especially ones that aren't technically incorrect, just slightly misleading, are obviously even lower on the list of things to fix.
While it would be nice to make sure all power descriptions are correct and relevant, it would be a Herculean task to actually do so. Someone would have to through all the power descriptions and not only confirm that what it says is actually what it does, they'd also have to be familiar enough with the set/critter each power is associated with to also check that any references to the rest of each set in the text is relevant. Not the sort of editing job i'd want to wade through unless it paid rather well. -

But it does have the attributes Ultimo_ has been seeking for years, yes? And it's already in the game.
Actually, it's more of an Assault/Defense AT since there are melee attacks as well, i just never took them since my Crab was built as an airborne assault unit. "Death from everywhere!" (Which was also the motto on the side of the Mystery Men's helicopter/hovercar/tank thing when they battled a cloned army of Hitler's right(?) foot.)
-
It generally takes fairly little time for any of my fully slotted, though not necessarily set IO slotted, Defenders to recover full endurance when not attacking. (This is generally by level 30+ or so.) Then the endurance usage of Assault becomes irrelevant at that point until combat starts again. Most missions consist of isolated battles in hallways interspersed with several large rooms of nearly non-stop combat. In practice i find this works out to either nearly continuous fighting where Assault would be optimal or combats with enough downtime in between to start at full endurance, making any endurance usage by Assault in between academic, so i tend to leave Assault toggled on even if it does reduce my theoretical efficiency.

Quote:i forget where i read it, but i do recall something about the Rikti war being caused by Nemesis' machinations. AFAIK the Praetorians weren't directly involved or responsible.Oh, they know about Praetorian Earth now, just probably not when they made their original invasion plans. (Although even if they did, the dimensional trail from the invaders led back to Primal Earth anyway.)
So in this case it was all a Nemesis plot. -
Quote:This. (With additional qualifiers added to make it absolutely clear. i hope.)With a super speed running start, horizontal super jump speed is higher than from a standing start but gradually declines until it reaches your jump speed.
Whenever you switch to a slower movement mode your speed declines rapidly to current maximum. -

Quote:Rikti Earth is another alternate Earth, just like Praetorian Earth, Council Empire Earth, Reichsman's Earth and Primal Earth. Exactly what the Shadow Shard is is much more ambiguous. As is the Rikti dimension... pretty sure they aren't from ours. Check out their page on the Wiki: http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Rikti
