Quote:Why so rancorous?Look, I'm sorry I missed this topic when my account was lapsed a few months ago or whenever. If you're not interested in rehashing it then feel free to let this thread die instead of criticizing. I almost wish it would at this point.
Almost all the people posting here are just saying they consider it money well spent. No one's really complained about you starting this thread, though a couple may have taken issue with characterizing the money spent on the game as "sunk" and "depressing." Saying that there was a similar thread several months back is hardly a stinging rebuke. (Stinging Rebuke would be an awesome name for a power.)
Lighten up a little.
This guy seems happy enough. -
That's just silly. Though it's only fair to point out that you would notice -rep less than most.
Still, fear not. There is an answer to those so lacking in acumen. -
Quote:Birds have been doing it for millions of years following in the footsteps (literally) of their dinosaur ancestors... Stability issues aren't really greater than being a biped in the first place. Actually, most bipeds are digitigrades.Yep, I know that, which is why I put it in quotes. I actually did a lot of research when I was coming up with my werewolf design. And really, walking on your toes isn't that easy for a biped, so likely it wouldn't be realistic. It's just the Rule of Cool in effect.
Edit: See above. Birds, humans and several other primate species are primarily bipedal on the ground. Bears, Pangolins and a variety of rodents are partially bipedal. Mostly for combat, manipulation, digging and looking around.
Or were you using animal to mean mammal? -

Quote:*hides under bridge* (Actually i used to do that when using TP Foe in Siren's Call on my Brute. Before the revamp of course.)I think this entire thread is just everyone trying to troll everyone else and succeeding.
So far i've seen little here that i feel is worth replying. i mean... ELK trolls himself, everybody else trolls everybody else, and nobody's really interested in any viewpoint unless it agrees with their own. Even me. -

Quote:*meh*We need a good thread to raise up the hackles on all the defenders' spines. Something to get things going like a good H34lz0r vs Fruitsalad build. Or, bring up how 8 defenders out perform any other mix of ATs. Something for the Westleys, the Mighty Storms, the Jocks and Rigel Kent's to sink their teeth into. A real good rant against Kinetics team support hasn't been promoted for a while.
Does the statement that chem rounds in your dual pistols being the primary focus for defender dual pistol users get anybody's juices going?
Try again. -
Quote:In digitigrade legs what you're thinking of as a "reverse knee" is actually the ankle. It's just that the carpals and tarsals are elongated and the animal walks on its toes. Which has some definite advantages for moving rapidly on the ground....He also appears to have human proportions from the waist down, not the "reverse knee" dog configuration...

Quote:i'd tend to use toe over tongue, but that's because i can't think of any examples of vestigial tongues at the moment.I use the 'looking for' flags very rarely.
Most often I just stick with the comments section.
Although...does ANYONE still use the 'looking for patrols' option? It seems like a vestigal tongue.
i'd suggest that a Looking For More flag would be a good replacement for the Looking For Patrol flag, but implementing it would require recoding part of the team interface. It's still a good idea in my opinion, and it's possible that something like it is already in the works.
i wonder if this proposal has already been posted in Suggestions. It seems obvious enough that i would expect it has. It's not the first time this topic has come up. -
i do have to agree with StarKitten regarding your subscription time.
i especially like how you phrased it as a question since that's how i would've read it anyway in light of your prior posts.
If you've been playing the entire 51 months prior to now you've come to the boards not a moment too soon.
Welcome. It's about time. -
Quote:That will be the prepping for the closed beta, yes. At 51 months there's a good chance you'll be in the closed beta at some point, but it's not guaranteed. Hell, i just got the badge that's 18 months farther along yesterday and there's still no guarantee i'll be invited to the first part of the beta either. And any one who does test server there down tuesday to put issue 17 in.
So if you have a 20 or up in coh/cov bring them to the training room today.
Anyway, while it's easy to level faster than ever now, the leveling curve does slow down a bit in the late thirties. i've found that SF/TF runs and teaming, especially with friends, makes it go by very quickly.
If it's solo leveling you're looking for then continuing what you're doing and upping the difficulty is usually the best way to go. Generally speaking mission arcs outside AE give the best xp per minute spent in the mission due to the end of mission and end of arc bonuses. By the later thirties travel time shouldn't be too much of an issue unless you skipped the temp powers and taking a regular travel power. -
i have a Scrapper who is currently level 40, and will probably be taking Fly at level 41. i have a Night Widow who never took any travel power besides Combat Jumping, Hurdle and eventually movement bonuses, although she now has Ninja Run as well.
Most of my alts do end up taking travel powers in the twenties, but it's not a necessity. -
Quote:For me the LFT setting usually lasts until i log out or join a team. Frequently it persists after i log in a new alt.i believe i said "most" not "all" people are too lazy to change it, i know i dont change it because it doesnt persist through zoning/logging, and im sure there plenty of others out there that do the same thing as you and me and ignore the system because it doesnt work properly
Some of the flag settings make no sense, but i guess they're left over from launch when standard MMO conventions informed a lot of the interface design. At that time open world hunts for 200 rats, street hunts or whatever were more the norm, so a "Looking for patrol" flag may have made sense. Nowadays it makes little to no sense at all as a teaming flag. -
Works for me.
i always look at all available builds and see if i can incorporate what i like most about each into one. i consider builds advice and ideas to help me design my own, not strict blueprints to follow.
Edit: Personally i would consider the most skippable/replaceable power in the builds i posted to be Maneuvers. In general i only take it on my Force Fielders and Soldiers. -
Quote:They have telepathy precognition: they know when someone's mind will be read by a telepath. Unfortunately (or fortunately) they can't foresee much more than that.I dunno, their look struck me more like the department of precrime in minority report. but psychics can go both ways, depending if they are precognitives or telepaths.

Quote:At this point i just mention that buffs provide more overall benefit past the early levels and that heals are useful as well, but less effective as a primary focus. Then i generally tell them to do whatever they want. There is some truth in that. I think th reason it upsets people on the defender boards is that we've all encountered people for whom healing is the ONLY focus, often to the point of neglecting the buffs.
The "I RP my Defender as a pacifist and that's why I don't use attacks" people annoy me far more. Uh, sure, you just go around enabling your teammates to beat the hell out of people by patching them up when their victims fight back and/or shielding your teammates from retaliation and/or giving them the occasional dose of steroids or PCP to help them hit harder. That's not pacifism, that's just a coward who lets his friends beat people up for him. There is no way for a pacifist worthy of the term to level at any useful rate in this game short of massive hypocrisy.
Now if their reasoning was "I'm not capable of arresting criminals effectively on my own, so I assist those who can", then i'm fine with the reasoning. But Pacifist? *snort* -
Well, if you visit Wincott preemptively you won't be given the mission to talk to him later.

Quote:Oops. i ate the ashes instead of wearing them. Can i has more?I'm all for more War Witch front and center. I dig her hair.
Oh, sorry, got distracted there. In light of this latest sad news, I have just deleted all my characters, and I now sit forlornly in my sackcloth and ashes. Thank you Dispari for opening my eyes to the sad inevitability of the end.
And some more sackcloth. i, uh, used for something besides wearing or eating. Let's just say it was used some time after eating. <.< -
Quote:That's a good point, a very good point. Still, i would take Gloom and Blackstar long before i'd drop Gloom for Blackstar. As a Empath/Psi I can say that a Nuke that does an sort of Mez is great to have. Even if your team is doing great (like one two nights back. Two bubble fenders and three blasters, we were slaughtering
) it's nice to run in an stun the heck outta the whole mob in one go, doing some decent damage too. Your team will tear up the left overs.

Quote:That was probably around the time that one of my characters survived a backdraft hit. i always figured it was due to a server hiccup since it never happened before or since. IIRC it was not a high defense character either. It may have been broken a bit years back. I was on my Inv tank working on the badge when the building went all asplodey, and I was amazed to still be standing. I was as low as I could possibly be in HPs, as I recall, but didn't have to hit the Hosp.
The only thing I would figure out is that, at that time, the auto-hit wasn't working right, and the Def made part of it miss, while the rest took me to probably 1 hp.
And no, I didn't take a series of screenies at the time because I didn't know it was ready to go - got there late and missed the pre-boom.
