Quote:Well, they went from a staff of 15 to 70+ while working on a bunch of new stuff (not all of which has been revealed yet; i'm looking at you i20) and then cut back to 60+ on staff. That's still at least four times the Dev team CoH had at the time they were acquired by NCsoft.Healthier? Didn't Paragon just fire...I mean layoff talent? RIP BAB!!
Honestly, I feel like I'm about to lose all that I've invested in this game in the next 365 days. Can't you feel it? The purge is coming...
As for BAB leaving... we don't know any real details, and based on how his activity on the forums had tapered off months before news of his leaving leaked out he could've been preparing to hand off lead animator duties long before the layoffs occurred.
Based on your recent spate of starting threads it seems you've either belatedly caught up on what's been going on for some time, or something in your own life suddenly got you worked up.
Either way, a fair bit of your recent posting seems to combine misinformation with narrowminded intolerance and provincialism.
i hope CoH doesn't adopt a F2P model either, and i do agree that F2P game models seem to bring in more jackholes than standard subscription based MMOs. Still, i've found CoH's community on the whole to be unusually tolerant and helpful even when compared to other standard MMOs. There are individual exceptions of course. *glances up at OP* -
No.
Your assertions make no sense and you still haven't addressed where people from Asia, Australia, and other parts of the world will play.
First off, you're apparently ignoring that people from all over the world already play on US servers. i know several people from Australia and New Zealand who play on the US servers as well as a few who live in Japan and play here. i frequently team with a bunch of other people who live outside the US that i know from in game even if i don't recall exactly where they live.
Your reply to how you can tell where spam comes from makes even less sense. In game McAfee tells you nothing about where a spammer originated. Outside the game spam can also originate almost anywhere and applications like McAfee are of limited utility in determining actual origin. A fair chunk of spam is generated by botnets, and the individual computers in the network and the controller of the botnet can be anywhere on the planet that has internet connections. -
Weird... or just desiring the tools to do things that most players don't even dabble in at all?

See... i've never even had Maelstrom try to get into my mind. Besides, i'm not sure frightening them away by showing them an endless, yawning abyss that devours all rational thought really counts as "blocking" them.

Quote:i've always heard it called Singy, and to be honest i think that name has more panache than Spotty. Spotty sounds good for an Edwardian street urchin who keeps you informed about what's happening on the street. Also, isn't Singularity commonly known as Singy? I know it doesn't have the same panache as Spotty, but it is fairly common usage.
One of my Earth Controllers calls her Animated Stone Dr. Poopington, but that's neither here nor there. -
Quote:i remember first seeing this bug in the i18 beta on my Praetorian Bots/Traps. It seemed to have been fixed in a subsequent patch, but apparently not for good. It's not just zombies. I've had my mercs do the same thing. I've even had them get stuck changing zones where they just stand at the exit to the Ferry or Train. Even after I managed to dismiss them and resummoned them they reappeared where they were stuck and not where I was at. I've been forced to log off in order to "fix" them.
i really haven't been playing Masterminds since the beta. Has this been ongoing since 18 was released or is it happening more since the Halloween event started? -
-
Probably this. i don't recall there ever being an issue released without it being in open beta for at least a week, so i'm pretty confident that November 2nd is right out. i suppose the least satisfying and most accurate answer is "when it's (mostly) ready."

Quote:The most important aspect of a set bonus for stacking purposes is how it's named in game. Two set bonuses could give the exact same boost (say 5% flight speed), but if they're named differently they don't count together towards the limit of 5.You would get one instance of each set bonus up to the number of enhancements of that set you have slotted in a power.
So in this case you would get a 2.2% reduction in sleep duration, an increase in health of 1.5% and the 2% debt protection.
Note this is total for that power.
There's one hiccup in that you're limited to 5 instances of the exact same buff (aka, the exact same power wording).
So if you already had 5 "2.2% sleep duration reduction" set bonuses across all of your powers, adding a 6th will have no effect. However if you had 5 "2.2% sleep duration reduction" bonuses and you get another set that has a "2.5% sleep duration reduction" bonus, all 6 will be counted. It's called The Law Of Fives.
There's some more info at the wiki: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Set_bonus
From Frost's link to the wiki:Quote:Castle further elaborated on the rule of five in I13 Closed Beta saying that the exclusion of more than five of the same bonuses is based on the name of the bonus and not its value. For example, a character can benefit from up to five global benefits of Luck of the Gambler: Defense/Increased Recharge Speed, which gives a global +7.5% bonus to Recharge Rate, as well as up to five set bonuses of +7.5% Recharge. That's because the first bonus is named "Luck of the Gambler: Recharge Speed" while the second is "Huge Recharge Bonus". One can find the names of the bonuses listed in the Combat Attributes window. -
Quote:Don't most of the armors have a "no fade or pulse" option? It doesn't remove the swirlies or sparkles, but it does alleviate the constant brightening and dimming of your character model.Yeah, one power does not make a NO FX option for Dark Armor and it is not the power with the sparklies.
I knew I should have included that only Cloak Of Darkness has an option, blah blah blah, hehe.
I think it is just to remove the flicker or something? People wanted to be able to see their character more while using Cloak Of Darkness.
Personally i like Dark Armor's look, but lately i've been using bluish and purplish tints to recolor it. -
Quote:Crazy. So crazy it's not unpossible.Maybe they've made a deal with a comic company (most likely a small one), and they're going to start bringing in said company's world and characters?
Quote:Hasn't anyone considered the possibility that someone's just really, really worried about proprietary information leaking out? This is what drives so much of the business world, after all: the fear of being sued over something. I find that much more likely than the possibility that i120 itself is so unique that it requires special treatment. I expect signed NDA's for all these closed betas from now on.
If it isn't that, it's probably something along the lines of diminishing returns in PvE. I imagine this wouldn't be the Great Nerf of Doom everyone considers it to be, but even if it's handled perfectly, it'd be such a public relations disaster that I'm not sure the game could survive the sudden drop in subscriptions.Besides, using an NDA to simply delay revealing PvE DR would be a bit silly, the fecal hurricane would simply hit that much harder later on.
No, it's because they're introducing a new system where the players of defeated characters can take control of randomly selected NPCs in missions with xp bonuses for defeating other players. -

Quote:In my opinion (of course) Follow Up's near constant damage buff (with Frankenslotting you might be able to get it overlapping and stacking at 20) to your other attacks, especially the damage aura, compensates for the Clockwork lethal resistance. That and the fast recharge and low endurance cost of Claws helps. But i admit to being somewhat biased.Claws wouldn't be ideal due to Clocks' resistance to lethal. Mace would be a good choice because the two big KD attacks wouldn't be available at Synapse level anyway. Mace's T3, Jawbreaker, is KU, not KD, so it won't scatter like KB will.
I love War Mace anyway, but I think a Mace/Electric Brute would be very good for this purpose.
EDIT: As mentioned earlier, Fire or Electric would be good too, though I love Mace best.
Edit: Admittedly Follow Up is more of a benefit to Scrappers than Brutes. -
i'd lean towards a Claws/Electric, Fire/Electric or War Mace/Electric.
Scrapper or Brute would work well for the first two. Both can have energy resistance capped by that level, with the Brute having the higher cap. -

Most of the time the new ruler makes a big show out of finding and executing the assassin of the former ruler. (Even if they were the one who sent the assassin the first place. Especially if they were the one who sent the assassin in the first place.) Beyond some fictional gangs and tribes i don't know of any significant groups or nations where killing the old leader automatically makes you the new leader.

Quote:I'm not buying any more of your damned costume packs until you get rid of the de-evolution thing on Secondary Mutation from the Mutant Pack. I don't like paying someone to play jokes on me. It wastes my time and my friends' time if I'm on a team. It's not funny to me, and it's not cute. I could just not use the power, but I PAID for it. I thought the devs had more respect for their customers than that. No company stays in business if they slip little "jokes" into their customer's products. How would you like it if you bought a car that the paint washed off of the first time you washed it just because the manufacturer thought it would be funny?
Boycotting the Origins Pack.Quote:Now why would you boycott the cape pack over this?! It doesn't even have a stray power IN IT?!
I agree that devolution [puns intended] sucks. It has however happened to me exactly twice since I've been using it, only once of which was on a team... and I made sure I was far from the action when I clicked it.
If you have to boycott over stray - and mostly useless, I find most of them rather "meh" - over stray powers included in packs, at least wait for a pack with such a power in it. Passing up beautiful capes will not teach the developers any lessons, meanwhile your alts are frowning and pouting over not having a pretty leaf cape. Be kind to your alts!
Personally i find being devolved very occasionally for a single freaking minute very amusing. Most of my alts have secondary mutation on auto, and out of the six times or so that i've been monkeyfied at least three of those times have been in combat. It's never caused defeat for me or my teammates, but it's amused the hell out of me every single time. i only wish we would get monkey powers while devolved, or at least be able to use brawl and temp powers. i was once delayed by a full minute for meeting the team to go do a trial because i was a monkey when i logged in and couldn't summon a portal or uses a teleporter. The horror! Besides, i'd keep a supply of assorted grenades handy if i could use them monkeyfied. i'd pretend they were something besides grenades of course. <.< -

Quote:Sort of have to go with the goat on this one.1: you can afford a gaming computer
2: you can afford a broadband internet connection
3: you can afford $15 a month for an MMO subscription.
I don't need to see your pay stub to draw some conclusions.
yes, there will always be some edge cases who play on someone else's tab or who are dealing with a fixed income that features exactly $14.95 worth of discretionary expenses per month
But the act of playing an MMO strongly implies a certain level of disposable income.
'The Playerbase' isn't squatting in a hut on the outskirts of Manila selling plastic shoelaces to buy rice, it's kicking back in front of a fairly decent computer in first world housing and blowing twenty odd bucks a week on junk food and soda.
in the context of a population that can afford to play a video game with a monthly sub fee, ten bucks ain't squat.
Buy it or don't, but stop pretending ten bucks is Bill Gates money.
Now, i've had times where ten bucks was very dear, but living on the Northeastern coast of the USA means that most good restaurants that don't sell horrible sludge cost $10 or more for a single meal. Hell, the local delis sell sandwiches for $5 to $7. (Yeah, i know some excellent restaurants that serve enough for two at about $10, but that's not the usual price point.) A 20oz. bottle of soda is ~$1.25 around here. Yeah, i don't buy any of that for the most part, and my lunches generally cost me less than $5, but $9.99 for one time purchase of pretty bits that i will then be able to access until the servers go cold is something i can pay if i think the bits are worth it. If they aren't then i won't. Compared to a recurring monthly cost of $14.99 plus the cost of the broadband service it's still not a lot. Especially considering i've been paying that much for over six years.
i skipped on the party pack because it wasn't worth it to me. This pack OTOH so far seems like it will be.
Y'know, for some reason i'm suddenly reminded of the first Austin Powers movie when Dr. Evil makes his initial ransom demand. -
Quote:There is a fair bit of man-hours required to go through and recode that many powers. It's not as simple to do as you seem to think. From what i know of previous changes to powers it cannot be done as an automated script with good results. So there's two hurdles to implementing this change. No, not really. The ability to do this is already in game. The mechanic that would allow this has already been deployed in a context outside of its original creation (Dual Pistols).
It's not a question of "can they do this?" It's a question of will. The devs don't have the will. Probably because of certain people who would complain about others being given more choices. But there you go.
On the plus side at least it's now possible. Which is still not the same thing as worth the cost. -
Quote:Ouroboros also has sunny skies.According to Paragon Wiki, you may also go to Cimerora (I suppose perpetual night in the present does not effect the past of Ancient Rome
) the Hive, or the Abyss (Hamidon apparently has the power to keep the ghoulies away too) if you want to see a little sunlight during this season.

Quote:To my mind doorsitting in missions, whether AE or regular, isn't really leveling to 50 without fighting. Technically you aren't fighting, but it's not really in the spirit of the challenge.I would imagine its been done already.
Enter AE mission and doorsit.
That reminds me of the guy who posted that his Empath didn't slot or use any attacks because he was a pacifist.
i... see... so in order to express your objection to violence you follow around a group of violent people and juice them with amphetamines and steroids to keep them strong and aggressive and patch them up when they bruise a knuckle smashing other people's faces in. Yup, definitely a true pacifist. Assuming your definition of pacifist is a coward who likes to facilitate and watch violence committed by others. -
Yeah, Gates is my pick as well. If he gets elected leader it will be interesting to see how the writing for that shakes out. Both for the reactions of other characters and how Gates deals with it.

Quote:You don't need contacts past the first five levels, and none of the missions in that range can't be autocompleted AFAIK. Past that you can go the whole way to 50 by autocompleting newspaper/scanner missions every three days.I thought you would run out of contacts as you tried that. You won't get enough xp to get your next contact by dropping all the time, and some missions can't be dropped. Not to mention the missions of "Kill x mob followed by defeat all in base and then defeat all in 2nd base" style missions, where you are never leaving the first mission in the first place.
