this is touched on here in this topic:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=240598
I already have a DM/FA scrapper (which IMHO is very squishy) and was actually looking at a re-rolling as a brute for access to the Brute PPPs. Shadow Meld from the scrapper PPPs looks nice for a DM/FA but Gloom, two AoEs, and a -To Hit debuff toggle looks nicer despite scrappers capable of putting out higher DPS.
Hope the link helps in your decision. Good Luck! -
Quote:Purples, Prestige and Tickets.I see a lot of posts here about Farming, Farming Builds and Farming Techniques. Some great builds and great advice is in those threads.
My question is, aside from personal enjoyment derived from a particular play style - which is personal to each player and beyond judgement as such - what is the point of farming? I hear a lot of people talking about farming for Influence, which seems like a slow and painful way to earn Influence compared to the market.
Is it for purples? I have yet to see any drop on my characters, though I have only two level 50s, so I don't have a tonne of range there.
For people that don't understand or dislike playing the market I would imagine influence would be a factor to farm.
*Good point about PLing Silver* -

Yes you are correct Carnifax. The procs would check at every jump.

Quote:I hated it too. At low levels I used Ice Arrow a lot. The redraw drove me nuts! I dropped Ice arrow in the later levels to focus on area control and debuffs.I tried it this morning myself. Couldn't even get to level 10 before becoming sick at how slow Trick Arrow felt because of all the redraw.
To minimize the redraw I usually open with Phantom Army followed by Spectral Terror. I then fully unload all area debuffs which I finished off with Fireball to ignite OSA. I then go into clean up mode by focusing on Single Target attacks (Blind+Fire Blast+Spectral Wounds) as PA and OSA kills most of the weaker foes. Rinse and repeat based on what is available. Add a dash of [Confuse] for flavor.
Ill/TA is a fun combo but truth be told its only been holding me over until I can re-roll as Ill/Traps. One can dream right? -
Well let's see.

I recommend duplicating your Mids folder and installing these files in the duplicate. -
Yes and bring /Traps over while you are at it. I have been wanting /Traps for Controllers since CoV Beta

Out of curiosity how is your Jolting Chain and Chained Fences slotted?

Quote:Personally I believe Earth still holds the crown. Earth can easily lock down multiple spawns with little effort. It also excels at location based controls.Hi,
I've only teamed with Electric controllers and dominators through around level 26 so far, but even at early levels the set seems amazing. The AoE immobs + sleeps seem to be up almost all the time and I see few mobs left with endurance.
My former favorite for control was Earth, but Electric seems even better. The controls may be soft controls, but together they're quite a force.
Is Electric the new top set for control?
Most Electrics can throw out two Static Field patches best case scenario. From what I have seen KB, AoEs, and DoTs will just ruin your ability to control mobs before you have them sapped if you rely on SF. Earth doesn't have this problem. The only other form of control available for an Electric is Paralyzing Blast, Jolting Chain, Synaptic Overload, and Conductive Aura. PB is on too long a timer to reliably have it up all the time. JC is up pretty often but lacks any punch to properly control until you IO it with procs. SO is up fairly often but is ineffective if the spawn is spread out too much (JC suffers from the same issue). SO also infects a spawn at a very slow pace making it highly likely that the chain will be broken if a jump is killed. Conductive Aura lets you drain spawns fairly effectively but the problem here is you can only be in one place at one time to do so and you are limited to 8 (??) targets.
Better that Earth (or Mind) I doubt it. I don't think its even close but that's my opinion based on beta and my current Elec/Rad that is @~40. -
Quote:The Pet Set IOs boost your pet's defense or resistance within a 20ft (??) radius of you....not your defense or resistance. At least that is the way I understand them to work.Forgive me if I'm not understanding as I've never used the pet sets before/pets in general. With Soverign Right, I can get a 10% bonus to all of my resistances after my toggles/set bonuses? Mids is telling me that right now I'm at 35% S/L and 31% Psi. So with that IO I would have 45% S/L and 41% Psi putting me at the soft cap and pretty close to the psi cap?

From what I recall they hunted with fire by burning out sections of forests to drive out animals or cook them in it forest. Many of surviving flora have adapted to regenerate rapidly after such burnings. Its quite amazing seeing life being replenished within a day of a burning! This would only hold true for the coastline areas, the interior is primarily desert.
According to this site they did but for ceremony only: http://www.janesoceania.com/australia_aboriginal_mythology/index1.htm
Quote:Along the northern coastlines before the coming of the British, the Aboriginal people of Cape York traded with the Melanesian people living in the Torres Strait and New Guinea. The Melanesians planted crops and tended gardens, used bows and arrows and beat on drums. The northern Aboriginal people took the bow and arrow and the drum into their ceremonies by made no other use of them, for the hunting and gathering system worked well. In other places and among other groups, however, this way of life was quickly put an end to when our lands were taken from us. -
Quote:<Insert Salty's obligatory fanboi rant on how awesome Ill/TA/Fire is and how it fits an arcane trickster theme if you can get over the "tech" look and sounds of some of the arrows.>Looking to make a concept character and having difficulty choosing sets. This guy is an Australian Aborigine who inhabits the Dreamtime -- the Aboriginal creation myth.
The character will be modern in origin (he'll wear pants and use the transit system) but tied to a deep mystical past. I'm using one of the faces with the eyes closed; he will be blind to the physical world but sense everything through the Dreaming.
Spirits are central to the Dreamtime stories, so I am thinking Illusion Control would be a pretty good match. I've never had a higher-level Illusion Controller anyway.
For a secondary, I'm stumped. I've tentatively tried Storm and Sonic; Storm because exposure to the elements is part of the natural world, and sonic because songlines and singing are a big part of Aboriginal culture.
But I'm not entirely sold on Sonic, and I already have a Mind/Sonic Controller of medium level. I'm not averse to reusing the set, but I might find something else I like more that could be can be shoehorned into the concept .
So I thought I'd pick the collective forum brain for suggestions or ideas to help make the character come alive.
Thanks! -
Most procs you put in Jolting Chain will check at every jump. I havent test the Endmod IO sets procs of the FF proc, but I do know the preorder damage IOs work as does the KB damage proc. I know the -end, the hold procs from the Ranged Damage IO sets also work. I havent done enough testing to see if this holds true for any secondary chains that branch off the first one.

I wont really comment on your build in great detail but I did notice some odd power and IO set selections.
- I think you are wasting power slots just to squeeze LotGs in. The only one I would keep is Stealth. Just grab Hasten and get it over with. Some of /TAs best powers are on long recharge timers. You'll thank me later.
- If you plan on playing in melee (recommended playstyle for Elec/) drop the Fitness pool all together (optional). You wont need it with /TA as a secondary. Just leave Conductive Aura on and stand in the Static Field patch. Drain your enemies endurance and recover yours.
- I ended up dropping Ice Arrow on my controller. Yeah its great when you are leveling and lets you double stack holds on bosses. In the later levels I was too busy debuffing than worrying about throwing out ST holds.
- Elec/ Is dependent on sapping enemies as a form of control. The Performance Shifter proc in Conductive Aura has been reported to return endurance to the enemy. Unless its been fixed you wont want that to occur.
- The placate proc of the Fortuna Hypnosis set does nothing in Static Field.
- I personally dont care for AoE holds on ridiculously long timers. I would keep EMP Arrow but recommend dropping Paralyzing Blasts. If you play in melee you wont need the extra hold.
- I only recommend six slotting Coercive Persuasion if you are going for Ranged Defense. Keep the Contagious Confusion proc and drop the single aspect confuse boosting IO.
- Switch the two end reducing IOs to recharge IOs in Disruption Arrow.
- If you 4 Slot Call to Arms in Gremlins you can get another 6.25% recharge bonus.
- Stealth IO in Super Jump? just put it in sprint and call it a day. It saves you a slot and all you need to do is tap sprint to activate stealth.
- Overall your IO set slotting strategy seems focused on +acc, +hp, and + recovery. I strongly recommend focusing on IO sets the provide recharge bonuses without sacrificing functionality.
-
I was going to mention this earlier but if your /DA toon uses its heal often then you will get more milage out of the ToE +end proc.
I built my Spines/DA with a near soft capped layer of S/L defense so I hardly get hit to even bother using Dark Regen all that often. Most /DA builds don't layer defense into their builds so Dark Regen becomes more of a crutch for them. Its probably why you are seeing such a disparity in advice. Either way I think you got some solid scoop from these posters. Best of luck with your build. Dark Armor is an excellent set that shines with well planned IO set selection. -
Quote:Thanks. I only ask because I suspect it will only have a chance to benefit the player upon casting. After that I suspect it will only benefit the pseudo pet that continues the chain effects.Nope, too much altitis going on atm ... none of my Electrics have really gotten to the point of IO slotting yet (outside of a few choice ones, primarily -kb). Might have to pop over to Beta and try it on my beta Elec/Rad. Jolting Chain certainly has a wide wide variety available to place in there. And in the final build not sure exactly what the FF proc would be getting me over something else. I have neither Em Pulse or Paralyzing Blast which I suspect would be the primary benefactors of having even more recharge in my build. Everything else pretty much has enough recharge to use on every spawn if not more often.
I hope I am wrong and was hoping that you had tested this with different results -
Just curious Doom but have you tested the FF proc in Jolting?

Quote:I would vote Miracle followed by Numi. I didn't see the Performance Shifter proc on the list which would be my next choice followed by the Theft of Essence proc.Alohas peeps...quick question about DA and IO's...I plan on cashing in my A-Merits and grabbing a pricey IO...the question is what IO should I grab? Numi +recov/regen or Miracle +recov or LoTG +recharge or the to-hit-heal +end recov(name escapes me) or other?
I've run a DA to 50 before IO's were introduced so your thoughts would be appreciated...
Also this isnt a money issue i have plenty for what its worth...o and its a KM/DA stalker for what its worth
I love the Theft of Essence proc but more often that not it returns enough end to pay off Dark Regen so I break even, which isn't a bad thing. Don't get me wrong I have seen it fill my end bar from near zero to full with one heal. -
-
Depends on which procs you are specifically talking about. The damage procs follow through each of the jumps. Some of the other types of procs behave a little differently.

Quote:It seems shorter that that. I'll wait until they are done patching this release before I start looking at this more closely, but I hope we are not getting short changed here.15 feet radius, so the arc can jump a maximum of 15 feet to another target.
Do you know if the -recovery is supposed to propagate through all its jumps? -
