Dark Miasma?

Is this secondary ever going to come to controllers? The devs would obviously have to come up with a different tier 9 power for it but no matter what they would do about that it would immediately become my favorite controller secondary. This vary well may have been discussed at great length somewhere else but I have not been able to find a thread about it so I figured I'd start my own. Your thoughts?

The Tier9 is the least of the worries when considering porting Dark Miasma. though it would be awesome ot have.

This topic comes up every two to three months. The Devs will do it when they do it, but it will take some major revisions.

I dont think it would take any major revisions other than giving it Mastermind numbers.

However, I think I recall a dev mentioning that they hadn't done it in part because they had at some point considered making a Darkness Control primary, and might make a Dark Assault to match, and so they werent sure how any overlap between a Dark primary and secondary might work.

But I might be wrong about remembering that.

Personally, I dont think Dark Control or Dark Assault are needed, and I WAY more want to play Fire/Dark and Illusion/Dark than I would want to play Dark/X.

That's pretty much it. And I think it also had to do with dark blast (for blasters) it's corresponding secondary, control, miasma and dom assault and trying not to overlap, etc. I think maybe it was Sunstorm that said it?

The explanation is, there are a couple powersets that would be sharing an interesting combination of powers. For example, Controllers want Dark Control and Dark Miasma, except Dark Miasma is already a very control heavy set which would supply a lot of Dark Controls powers. Combining Dark/Dark this way could lead to a lot of overalap.

Dominators would want Dark Control and Dark Assault, so Dark Assault would have to be careful not to include control powers from Dark Blast or Dark melee.

Blasters are easier, however the powers that go to blasters would likely be included in Dark Assault, which goes opposite dark control.

Then there are the general AT wide no-no's. Such as: giving armor powers to non-armored classes, or overlapping powers alread in patron pools.


So in the end, it's not designing one powerset. It's designing 3 different powersets:

Dark Control/Dark Miasma for Controllers
Dark Control/Dark Assault for Dominators
Dark Blast/Dark Manipulation for Blasters


Well, that's enough "dark" for several posts. And no, nothing is in the works yet.

Dark/dark blaster, please. I would be subbed just to play one. The secondary would give the blast set just enough ST damage to smooth out Dark Blasts lack of a 3rd ST attack. Add in utility in spades and I think it would do rather well. Ice/dark would be another that I would really want to do as well.

One problem of a Dark/dark controller is that they have to make it unique enough to differentiate it from a defender considering the defender's version has a lot of control already. I don't see how it isn't one of the instant best control sets for control. With all of that -tohit and controls, incoming damage should really be cut down with a Dark/dark controller.

I will agree with them that Dark Miasma has quite a bit of control, but then so does Trick Arrow and Storm Summoning. Personally I don't think Dark Miasma would be overpowered on a Controller at all, but yeah they would need to get creative with a Dark Control set.

Well, there's a question of proliferation, of sharing an already created set with different ATs who use the same type of power set. E.g., give Blasters Dark Blast and give Defenders Fire Blast. That usually only takes a little tweaking and maybe switching out a power.

Then there's the question of creating a brand new themed power set for a power class. Right now there's a Fire and Cold set in every power class: Defense, Melee, Blast, Assault, Manipulation, Control, and Buff. However, there's no Dark Control, Assault, or Manipulation. Electricity exists for each class except Buff. There's no Psi Buff and depending on your point of view, no Psi Melee (though many color and RP Kinetic Melee to fill in that gap). Other themes show up even less among the classes: Earth/stone, Radiation, Storm, Illusion, Gravity, etc...

Such new sets take *a lot* of time to do and are a major time sink. Devs need to ask: Do we do more of the same but in a new class (e.g., create Dark Control from scratch) or do something brand new (e.g., create Staff Melee)?

That said, I hope they continue proliferation... it is low hanging fruit as well as roll out a brand new wow-factor power set now and then.

They stole our secondaries and then used them as their primary. What fools! :P
