Concept help?

Looking to make a concept character and having difficulty choosing sets. This guy is an Australian Aborigine who inhabits the Dreamtime -- the Aboriginal creation myth.

The character will be modern in origin (he'll wear pants and use the transit system) but tied to a deep mystical past. I'm using one of the faces with the eyes closed; he will be blind to the physical world but sense everything through the Dreaming.

Spirits are central to the Dreamtime stories, so I am thinking Illusion Control would be a pretty good match. I've never had a higher-level Illusion Controller anyway.

For a secondary, I'm stumped. I've tentatively tried Storm and Sonic; Storm because exposure to the elements is part of the natural world, and sonic because songlines and singing are a big part of Aboriginal culture.

But I'm not entirely sold on Sonic, and I already have a Mind/Sonic Controller of medium level. I'm not averse to reusing the set, but I might find something else I like more that could be can be shoehorned into the concept .

So I thought I'd pick the collective forum brain for suggestions or ideas to help make the character come alive.

Thanks!

As FotM as it is, Ill/Rad would be a good one. You could pass the Radiation off as your character revealing his enemies' greatest fears to them (debuffs) and showing your allies visions of their victory (buffs). A cool blue/white coloring would help too, depending on how you want to do it.

Just my two cents.

I agree. With Recoloring, Rad can be almost anything. It can be the aura imposed by your character's magic that can be sensed by your character in his blindness.

And Ill/Rad is very, very popular for good reason, as you can see from my guide. Many of the good powers come early in the build, so you don't have to wait forever for the character to mature.

On the other hand, Ill/Storm is also a wonderful combo, much more chaotic but lots of fun. You have to limit much of the chaos when on teams, though. It is also demanding on endurance and has no Recharge, Recovery or self-heal buffs.

Force fields could work, protecting you and your allies by slightly shifting you into the Dreamtime and out of normal space, and therefore, harder to hit.

Or Kinetics, shifting energies, tapping your enemies spirits to fuel your's and your allies. That's more of an aggressive/immoral take on it, sapping another living being and all.

Really, you could make nearly combo of powers fit your story with the right coloring and story.

By the way- you didn't mention- are you seeing this as a more heroic or villainous character?

From what I recall they hunted with fire by burning out sections of forests to drive out animals or cook them in it forest. Many of surviving flora have adapted to regenerate rapidly after such burnings. Its quite amazing seeing life being replenished within a day of a burning! This would only hold true for the coastline areas, the interior is primarily desert.

According to this site they did but for ceremony only: http://www.janesoceania.com/australia_aboriginal_mythology/index1.htm

Along the northern coastlines before the coming of the British, the Aboriginal people of Cape York traded with the Melanesian people living in the Torres Strait and New Guinea. The Melanesians planted crops and tended gardens, used bows and arrows and beat on drums. The northern Aboriginal people took the bow and arrow and the drum into their ceremonies by made no other use of them, for the hunting and gathering system worked well. In other places and among other groups, however, this way of life was quickly put an end to when our lands were taken from us.

I did a quick read up on aboriginal mythology it seems like a lot of it has to do with spirits/gods taking the form of mountains and rocks; maybe an earth troller would work? Or an earth/earth dom?

I think Illusion/Storm is exactly the way to go.

Of course, I base this on some X-Men comics I saw long ago with portals and spirits coming forth and storms and elemental stuff.

Freezing Rain is pretty un-Australian.

(Or to look at it another way, much needed out here...)

Would it go against your concept to roll a Dominator? A Mind/Earth or Mind/Energy Dominator might fit your concept very well (it uses sleep powers a lot). No demon pets, but because both secondaries have Power Boost you can do some sick things. For example, when Domination is active and you use Power Boost, Mass Confusion is a 124 second mag 6 non-aggro AoE Confuse! It also will play significantly differently from a Mind troller (which is also great, but more of a support character).

Mind/Thorns might also be an interesting one. No Power Boost but still very powerful and maybe fits your concept.

I particularly like the idea of /Earth though, because knockdown plays great with Fear.

I think that, by far, the best primary is Mind, especially if you're going for the no eyes face. Your character cannot see so it makes total sence that the toon would use the power of the mind to interact with the world. Personally, I see an illusionist thematically as someone with very keen observational skills and, to me, that doesn't fit with your concept.

He could color it some un-rainlike color like green or purple and call it a rain of venom summoned from the serpents of the spirit world.
