Maybe I can encourage others to do as I do:
CoH supports Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V cut-n-pasting.
When leading PuGs (especially in Nova, with so many new/returning players), I try to cut/paste the most relevant lines of NPC text into the Team chat to share with those who might want to read it.
Sometimes I get lol's, sometimes blank stares, but every once in a while I get teammates who really appreciate that, and says so.
Give it a shot, only takes 3 seconds per copy/pasta. -
D_R I hope you realize that our eagerness is all in good fun and no-one actually expects you to drop everything to give us "our" new vid.
Glad to hear you're getting nibbles and I hope you soon find a position that fits your amazing skills and dedication.
Really hoping you take our nudging solely as a compliment and in no way feel *pressured* to get this out.
Best of luck!

Parenthetically, I have to say I find it amusing to say the least, to hear someone complaining about unfriendly denizens on these here boards.
Compared to EVERY other gaming-related board I've ever seen, the regulars here are, as a rule, kind, polite, helpful, and hilarious.
Nothing I've seen in this thread (so far) is budging me an inch from that belief.
But I'd love to visit Sleeping Kitten's regular stomping grounds to romp in the fields of actual sugary sweetness and support.
Where please? -
Quote:Agree with Brillig - I think right from the start, and consistantly so far, the Devs are being careful to live up to their promise that players would NOT suffer from a lack of IOs in their build.Considering that the content in Praetoria is playable, if difficult, with TOs and DOs, I don't think the game is being balanced against IOs.
As for difficulty, what I've been finding is that, at lower levels (i.e. 1-16ish), players are Ding-ing at LEAST ONCE *every single mish* - including the Mission Holder - so even missions that start out challenging are trivially easy from the Ding on.
And later (16-20) you're getting your better powers and are more comfortable with your toon so not an issue then either. -

This is not a bump aimed at reminding D_R that there are only 5 days left in August.
I really just wanted to ask how the settling-in was going after the move.
And point out that there are only 5 days left in August. -
Hey just FYI, if you have any more questions consider posting them in the Player Questions section - you'll have a whole raft of geeks elbowing each other out of the way to answer your questions quickly, politely, and correctly.
(No offense intended to the raft of geeks that lurk in this here section, of course) -
In addition to Mace, Broadsword and Katana sets, we now have Pool Noodles.
The cries of "Nerf Pool Noodles!" are leading to some serious head-scratching all around. -
Quote:I'm just a silly billy for whom Super Jumping is a favorite part of the game. I often just jump around various zones for no good reason other than sight-seeing and to see how high I can get without missing a landing.Travel powers are entirely optional now, and really only necessary for thematic reasons.
I have plenty of games to choose from where I blow stuff up. I don't have any other game that lets me bound around the landscape like a giant cricket.
Waaaay back in the day (before the movie) there was a game called Starship Troopers that was faithful to the book in that we all wore these jump-suits that let us bounce around the terrain. Had been looking for something that much fun for decades before finding CoH. -
Me, I enjoy a challenge...BUT, having said that I will shamefacedly admit that when leading PuGs, if a Carnie mish is on the menu, I WILL lower the difficulty one notch.
Much more fun, much less frustrating. -

Quote:Everybody sees this from time to time - it's nothing, usually just clicking the Log In button a second time will get you in.Hello guys, I just received that message when I just tried to login, but the last time I was online was last night. I quickly changed my password after that. I also checked my characters funds and everything seems intact. I didn't notice a change of servers either. I scanned my computer with Microsoft Security Essentials and nothing showed up. Is this a bug from the server?
Curiosity: How did you log off last night - did you DC (get DisConnected) and decide not to log back in? If so, there's your prob. It just never got the word that you had logged off (because technically you didn't), until you forced it to check by trying to log in twice. -

Quote:Yah Fulmies I agree and almost edited that post with a Disclaimer of sorts.I wouldn't describe Storm as a "Beginner" set. There aren't a lot of sets that can accidentally grief your team, but Storm is one of them.
If you're a quick-on-the-uptake, conscientious player Storm Summoning is all kindsa powerful and all kindsa fun - but if you're still figuring things out, might wanna start with something a little less potentially disruptive.
Like I said, "Chaos in a Can". If you can wrangle the chaos enough to not upset your teammates, good on ya'.
If not, steer clear for now. -
Well I'm just noticing the Active Users list that shows up at the bottom of the Forums page when you first get there...
Just wondering if it's pretty standard to see the likes of BaBs, War Witch, Posi, etc. online - or if there's something special going on somewhere (in the Forums) right now, that I should get in on. -
Terrific suggestions/explanations from J-D there - I was gonna say that in general, you wanna be careful about trying to twist an AT to be something it's not. If you wanna defend, be a Defender... if you want to blast, be a Blaster... if you wanna be in control, be a Controller.
Trying to turn a Defender into a Blaster is (no offense intended), a common "rookie" mistake, that can potentially leave you with a character that's really just a sucky Defender AND a sucky Blaster.
This, in fact, is really about the only way you can possibly "gimp" a character in CoH.
Now, as J-D says, the Vill ATs are a bit more versatile in that respect. The Corruptor's a cross between a blaster & defender, the Brute's a cross between a Tank & Scrapper, etc.
p.s. lemme just mention that, To Each His Own, but after playing for years and trying just about every possible AT and power set combo, my ALL-TIME FAVORITE Archetype is and will always be an Illusion/Storm Controller. It's Chaos in a Can - pop the top n WHOOOOOOOSH stand back! -
Reading between the lines, you're looking for an AT that will make you very desirable on teams, Yes?
You're a returning player, but my gut tells me you've been playing a MMO that goes by the "Holy Trinity" of Tank/Heal/Damage types.
In my opinion, a skilled, attentive, FUN player is really what matters most in CoH.
The ATs are so versatile and so...tweakable...that any and all ATs are desirable.
I form and lead Pick-up Groups (PuGs) on an almost nightly basis, have been for years, and I think I could count on one hand the number of times I've had to go hunting for that ONE SPECIFIC A-T that our group "needed".
I've formed teams of all Controllers and Defenders and steamrollered everything in our path. Teams with no tank, 3 tanks, 6 Blasters, 6 'trollers, you name it, ANYTHING GOES in CoH.
Pick an AT you enjoy playing, be smart, skilled, and funny, and people will be Friending you right and left and you'll never have trouble finding a team. -

The Day Job icon shows up, Yes... but if you right-click to read it, it's just the Patroller badge you get everywhere (on the street), not the Commuter badge you get at Train stations blue-side.

Schan you've gotten an AVALANCHE of excellent advice here - just wanted to add my 2 cents.
Re: Endgame
Someone here on the forums put it very well once, I thought - CoH isn't a game about being a superhero, it's a game about becoming a superhero. Take your time, read stuff, enjoy building your powers and skills, take "time out" to explore and visit new places, etc. etc. etc.
Re: Play hours
I play on Freedom AND I work a late shift, so I'm usually logging on around 1am ET (10p PT) and playing til 3a or 4a (12m-1a PT). I form Pick-up Groups (PuGs) practically every night, and can usually put a full, 8-player team together in under 5 minutes. So plenty of players online at that hour.
If you end up on Freedom be sure to look me up using my Global Name @Cougarific.
p.s. Re:Quote:There are a couple of useful external programs you might be interested in:But I am a min/max guy at heart.
Mid's Hero Designer will let you play around with different powerset combos, looking at hard numbers as you go.
HeroStats will help you keep track of every little bit of data the game is using "under the hood". -
Wait P_P these guys are all pullin' your leg.
The correct way to do this is to send as much Inf as possible to @Cougarific.

You're running red-side right now (City of Villains), but if you switch over to blue-side (City of Heroes) at some point, you'll be able to start new characters with a "Sewer Team" or Sewer Run starting in Atlas Park.
This is what many Vet players do to avoid the tedium of the low-level arcs (by tedium I'm mostly referring to the slow, pre-Travel Power travel between contacts & missions) and power their heroes quickly through the lower levels.
It's not unusual to go from level 2 to level 7, 8, 9 or even 10 in maybe 30-45 minutes, while tearing through the Sewers on a rockin' fun team (most Sewer teams have a carefree, happy-go-lucky feel, because there's no debt at that level, so nothing to lose).
When you decide you've had enough, you suicide in a mob, hit Hospital for the express train back to the surface, and Sprint to Ms. Liberty to grab 3 or 4 new powers and a handful of Enhancement slots.
One could theoretically level 3 or 4 heroes to level 10 in one evening's play (without "power leveling").
So if you're all about "trying out" all the ATs and powersets, I suggest flipping to blue-side for a while, get what you need in terms of info and experience, then go back to red-side when you've settled on a favorite AT or power set.
Of course - all this becomes moot now that GoRo is here - I *suppose* Vills can now start out with a Sewer run as well...
