Stop stealin' mah stories!

There are many new things to see in Praetoria, especially for a player who has been around since the first few months of the game and feels like he has seen it all. I've enjoyed going through as many contacts as possible, first as a sort of Loyalist/Resistance-sympathizer (flip-flopped a lot), and then currently as pure resistance.

I've mostly soloed, because I didn't like the idea of slowing down a team while I read each and every story clue and mission [de]briefing. However, there have been a few times where I have built up a team in anticipation of a difficult mission. Such a time arose in the "Noble Savage" story arc...

To cut out the whining, the tears and the frustration, and to make a long story short: If it isn't your mission, don't click through the NPC-specific, one-time dialogue! Why would you need to do that!? Everytime someone has done it, they've just clicked through it to get it out of the way, not worrying about if someone on the team actually wants to read it!

This has happened a few times now (and I've only teamed a few times, so I think it's at 100% currently) where I click to talk to the NPC, reading his/her responses and my own, and by the time I get to the second dialogue option, the window closes because someone has just raced through it to bring up the "Mission Complete!" text quicker.

I was with a friend in that mission who had the story arc open as well, so I made him replay to that final mission and let me talk to him completely this time, but unfortunately he had made slightly different choices and the mission had a different outcome. So I still have no idea why the guy suddenly attacked me because I brought his badge from his partner.

So! In conclusion! If the devs could make it where the mission-specific contacts say, "I need to speak with your team leader," or instead, just disregard the one-time dialogue options, I would appreciate it. Because while I'm asking here for people to respect the studious mission holder, I am realistic enough to know that simply won't happen in an MMO. There is not going to be this sudden sea-change where player's main propelling force is NOT to get the XPz as quickly as possible.

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

I've yet to team in Praetoria, and have no intention of doing so unless I've done that particular arc before, for exactly this reason.

I'll also take this opportunity to insert my standard gripe about TFs being impossible to follow unless you're leading the team, and even then a typical speed run will disregard as much of the structure of the missions as possible in favour of MOAR XP GO GO GO. So I'll also throw in my request for soloable TFs with EBs instead of AVs, for those who might actually care about why they're fighting.

My partner and I did a mission where you get a lot of branches of dialogue that end in the option to kill or have mercy. I was RPing a character that would want mercy. She was RPing someone that doesn't like people who are rude to her.

Things got messy really quickly.

I wish there weren't a way to cause such issues.

All of this. Some of us *do* actually care about all that text.

One of the reasons why I've always loved AE, you can read clues and mission story either as team leader or member, shame the rewards were nerfed.

As far as Praetoria goes I'm not particularly bothered with it, sure theres new story content, sure theres new badges to be earnt. But until they release content across all levels I don't see the point. I had the luxuary of testing a small portion both Loyal and Resistance during beta, all said and done I'd rather see a overhaul of AE so I can make missions as mechanically similar. I.e multiple paths during, on successful or failer of a mish different path, colourable powers for custom critters, list goes on.

Obviously the devs don't want people who can solo TFs with out grinding for all the shinies that would make them capable of soloing the AVs.

It's another scheme to make us keep playing! How fiendish!

Maybe I can encourage others to do as I do:

CoH supports Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V cut-n-pasting.

When leading PuGs (especially in Nova, with so many new/returning players), I try to cut/paste the most relevant lines of NPC text into the Team chat to share with those who might want to read it.

Sometimes I get lol's, sometimes blank stares, but every once in a while I get teammates who really appreciate that, and says so.

Give it a shot, only takes 3 seconds per copy/pasta.

Aren't you then limited by the chat window size, only allowing a portion of the text to be pasted?

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

This is a very good idea, but only works if the person who cares about the story can actually read the text, which the OP was complaining about not being allowed to do because someone else had "stolen" it. The AE team did it when I was running with them, to allow everyone to read the "still busy" and "mission complete" dialogue.

I haven't teamed in Praetoria either, aside from running a duo with my husband, and will not do so until I've seen all the content.

I'll admit to having done it once, but it was with a guy who didn't quite understand the concept of NPCs you talk to within the mission. Hell, I had a tip mission that involved Kelly Uqua in some manner, and this brute was so hopped up on Fury that he was disappointed that the boss round the corner conned friendly. Went through the dialog, and suddenly, little Brute was back to smashing. Later, we did a tip that he had, and he was so confused when he was told to talk to Bocor.

The only way I've found around this was to Alt-Tab to ParagonWiki and read each mission as we got to it. However, because the team wasn't really interested in text, I had to read the entire mission in advance as they travelled. It's such an unbelievable kludge, and it's still the only way to follow a story without other people's help, which other people never provide anyway.

I'd love to see soloable versions of TFs added with the rewards forfeited. In fact, add them to Ouro for standard arc rewards.

Yeah, those types of teams irk me too. All about the XP, not the story apparently!
