Sorry, but for those of us who actually *live* in an actual noisy city, no....just...no. Please?
  3. Running with a lowbie friend in PI last night, I faceplanted, and had a split-second of "can't hosp, my SK will be toast", before snapping back to the present.

It was the first time I had REALLY thought about it since the introduction of the SSK system...remember what a pain in the *** that mechanic was? Praying for a conscientious Mentor? Getting too far away from the SK/Mentor and seeing that annoying popup?

That's the result of a "Fortune" buff that someone hit you with (you had to Accept the buff).

Most buffs n debuffs will indicate as little icons swirling around your character, like a Red Up-Arrow indicating you're carrying a +Damage buff, or a Blue Down-Arrow indicating you're carrying a -Endurance Regeneration debuff.

You can also see purple shields (+Defense or +Resistance) and other icons.

You can check your Powers list to see what Temporary "power" you are currently carrying with the Tower.

  8. Welcome to the game & forums.

Wondering if we shouldn't just request a "Where is everyone?" sticky, post-free-server-transfers and new zone/activities additions to the game, for everyone who will be returning for i-17 &/or GR.

Feels like this has been coming up at least twice a week for the past couple of months.

Man how this game has changed...
Isn't it funny how people have such fond memories of street sweeping.

It really did have the potential for great fun and unusually high levels of inter-Team bonding, as there was no real "goal" other than to get xp and have a blast.

I like the bonus xp and reduced debt in missions, but I miss sweeping as well. Seems like people just zip from mish door to mish door nowadays, even if there are perfect-level baddies on the way from one to the other.

Personally, I'm making a pledge to try to drag my teams into a little good old-fashioned sweeping between mishes from now on.

If they were to add anything at all to Bricks it should be the interior of the Zig. I can't tell you how disappointed I was the first time I found out that there wasn't a single mission that took you inside the prison. I had expectations of prison riots and hostage situations completely squashed.
You probably know this already, but just FYI, I heard the Tutorial section of CoV is actually the left-overs from an attempt to do a Zig interior zone.

    Just Came Back

Also, it's important for returning players to keep in mind that there are a number of new "attractions" that are tending to spread the population across a greater number of zones.

AE, Oroborous, Cimerora, the Midnighter's Club, revamped zones like Fautline & Hollows, an updated Rikti War Zone, Universities, Markets (Wentworths & Black Market), etc. etc.

Hard numbers in the City Life section of these forums point to a probable decline in subscribers due to a variety of game-related and real-world developments (AE backlash, new MMO releases, economic downturn, etc).

But what population remains, is more spread out than it was a few years ago, and can make the world seem emptier in zones like Atlas and Peregrine Island, that used to attract a large number of people for various reasons.

Golden Girl has to be near the top of THAT list - last time I looked it was around 33 or so.

I vote Now, because a big part of this game, for me, is enjoying all the Issues and tweaks and updates, that let us know the Devs really care about the game and the players.

Let your friend get some "before" experience, so the "after" stuff is that much more interesting. He's a new player, so won't be tired of the 1-20 grind that's getting retooled with GR, let him experience it once before it all becomes old hat.

And for so many people, the community is as much of a draw as the game itself. And the community is here, Now - why not jump in and experience "us" as we are now, before we get a flood of clueless newbs with the upcoming updates?
  13. ...and found the answer to my question!

And didn't have to bother anyone with a pointless post!

    Wat?
  14. You still can - in an underground pool in one of the repeatable Cimerora missions, and...somewhere else...I forget where...anyone?

Just for fun, tho - not as part of a mish or task.

You just need water deep enough to go under - in the Cim mission there's actually a bridge you can swim under (the base is underwater).
  15. The Outbreak is considered a "pre-existing condition" so I expect it to be kicked off of its insurance, and die, soon enough.
  16. I found that if you simply replace "Sidekick" with "Scrapper" you get a much closer approximation of reality.

    e.g.
    Quote:
The goal as a Scrapper is to mess things up just to the point of utter failure for the task at hand, but having the hero pull out a win in the end.

    Epic Pools in GR

    Quick answer: Yes there has.

    Long answer...

From the Q&A session after the PAX East presentation:

    Quote:
Hero archetypes will most likely use villainous Patron Power Pools when they change factions, and the same in reverse for villains-turned-heroic. There will be new costume parts available, to no one's great surprise.

Also realize that there are a bunch of "new" zones (depending on when you last played) and places to be - Orobouros, Cimerora, Wentworths, the University for crafting, revamped Hollows & Faultline, etc.

People are more spread out, no more bunching-up in Atlas & P.I. (well, less anyway).

Y'know they were offering free server transfers for like 3 straight months recently, I suspect people mainly used it to consolidate their heroes on more populated servers like Freedom & Virtue.

If you're looking for crowds, you might wanna check out one of those servers.

Also remember that, depending on when it was that you "played before", there are a bunch of new zones & activities, so players are more spread out, not all bunching up in Atlas or P.I.

Peeps are in Orobouros, Cimerora, Wentworths, the Midnighter's Club, RWZ, Hollows & Faultline (both revamped and more awesomer than before), etc.
  22. Personally I'd be heading toward King's Row and doing radio missions for the Temp Travel Power (assuming you haven't already).

The Troll contact has some neat missions if you're happy in the Hollows. Otherwise I'd say head to Steel as it's an easier zone to get around in and there's a lot of other stuff to do there as well (WW, University, fires to fight, etc.).

    Population?

I agree with others who say the perceived drop in population can safely be attributed to the fact that there are tons more places for people to go and hang out and do missions and shop and craft and on and on and on.

We don't all just hang out in Atlas & P.I. anymore, we actually y'know...do stuff.

With twice as many places for players to go, the population in any one place is going to seem, well...less.

P.S. There's a running thread in the City Life section using available real-world facts and figures to try and determine actual population and population trends over the past few years.

Well I will also admit that I was very taken with the smoothness of the animations (and I'm NOT just saying that 'cause BABs poked his head in).

The anims are very fluid and graceful - appealing to the eye. Just not sure how it's gonna go over as an "attack".

In general, the idea of a "ranged" melee attack is...intriguing.
