Quote:Well thank you for the information on WinAMP. I've never used it so I don't know anything about it.Um, WinAMP allows you to do exactly that. Hit J to activate the Jump to File feature, then start typing. It matches to any part of the word. When I'm looking for, say, Best Day Ever by Bowling For Soup, I hit J, type in Soup and hit Enter. That's actually easier than typing /play soup, and it also allows me to pick the exact song. For instance, if I want to play the LazyTown Theme, I don't have any single identifier that's unique. Searching for Theme reveals the Mario Brothers Theme, the Bubble Bobble Theme and probably a few others I don't remember, and searching for LazyTown revels my entire LazyTown music collection. There's nothing I can type /play for.
Again, I don't get it. I've read your "relevant parts" and all you're doing is describing a more cumbersome variant of the options currently provided by WinAMP.
Quote:Have you tried VLC? I've had a lot of success with it. It has an 'Always on top' feature and 'minimal' mode that allows me to play my media with ease while always having a ready interface overlay on top of whatever it is I'm doing in CoX.
Overall though. I think a good number of players would use a feature like this if given the option. If it's not for you though then I don't see any issue with just leaving it be. There's no harm in options. -
Quote:It has done it recently, and usually does it at least once a month. I know of one person who simply doesn't alt-tab at all when using the game because of issues it causes.OK, this I honestly can't see. The old crashes were caused by multi-core rendering turned on (i.e. /renderthread 1) back when the game didn't officially support it, and even then it crashed, at least for me, when swapping keyboard layouts. This has been fixed and I've seen no further issues reported. When did the game crash for you and how often does it do that?
Quote:OK, I'm not sure I follow you here. Lack of Alt-Tabbing I can see, but how does having an in-game player save you from having to look through playlists? UT2004 had an in-built music player, and all that did was dump my songs in a playlist that I still had to look through, pretty much identically to how I have it set up in WinAMP. If you're talking about just loading a random song and going with it, most players I'm aware of can do that, too, without having to fiddle with play lists.
Quote:As for extra feature that could be added (Cyborg had combat auras, Magic had Costume Change Emotes, Science had the Super Tailor) could add in an MP3 player functionality. Set up a playlist outside of your game and when in game with simple slash commands can manipulate it like any other media player.
/play *songtitle*
/pause
/nextsong
/prevsong
/vol%% (replace the %% with a number to manipulate volume levels, i.e. /vol67 to put the volume at 67% full)
/nowplaying (just as the name suggests, would tell you what song you're currently listening to)
Back when I played Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy there was a player made program that did just this. A music player you could control from within the game itself. And when you used one of the commands it would give you a message that only you could see to tell you what song is now playing or whatever.Quote:And yeah I usually have my Zune software running while I play but it's not so much the draw on the computer's resources that putting an ingame media player would take care of, it's the having to alt-tab whenever you want to skip a song or something.
For a quick example. Let's say you wanted to listen to Diary of Jane by Breaking Benjamin, you'd have to alt-tab out and look through your playlist for the song. Whereas if the player was tied into the game. All you'd have to do is:
/play Diary
**Now playing: Breaking Benjamin - Diary of Jane**
or say you know what number the song is in the playlist:
/play #21 (or whatever)
**Now playing: Breaking Benjamin - Diary of Jane**
The Jedi Academy program that gave me this idea has functionality to help if you have a number of songs that share the part of the title you're trying to play. Might be a good idea to put that in this too. So... say you type something like.
/play Call
**4 songs in playlist with title 'Call'**
/play Call Me When
**Now playing: Evenescence - Call Me When You're Sober**
And if you don't know the number of the song you want to play? Maybe add in a playlist functionality.
/playlist Might bring up a window listing off your playlist with their number beside them -
Quote:It's a simple ease of use thing. It can be controlled from within the game itself rather than alt-tabbing.No, seriously. Can you formulate an explanation as to why that has any point? It doesn't matter if I agree with you or not. I just want to see what advantage an in-game music player has over currently functional, perfectly free third party players.
That's actually false. The game can still crash from alt-tabbing in certain situations. In fact my whole computer once crashed from alt-tabbing out of City of Heroes and I had nothing else running to do it.
The point is to just make it simple. You won't have to alt-tab, look through your media player's playlist for a particular song, and hope the game isn't messed up when you go back in. For some people that last part isn't a problem, but the fact remains that that is still a problem for some people.
Like I said in my post, there was a program that did this for the game Jedi Academy and it was a very popular program, remains one of the most downloaded files of all time for that game.
Would this be for everyone? Obviously not. But there's people out there who would like to have it. Just like every other booster pack we've had, the Developers realize not everyone would want those things, but some people do. This doesn't even have to be a paid addition, it could just be added in in an Issue like Ultra Mode (Again, not a large portion of the community can use it or wants to use it. Not for everyone but still it's there if people do want it.) -
I already brought up a semi-detailed idea like this once:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=209680
The overall census seemed to be 'What's the point?'
Despite that I would still enjoy something like this. /signed -
Colors are up to you. Just as long as it's a tuxedo or a dress it should be fine. You could see in our video our models wore a variety of colors, so it's up to you. Look forward to seeing you there!

I plan to make an Indiana Jones-esque character who unfortunately came across a mystic artifact that upon touching made their whip burst into flames and allowed them to command demons.
As for the costume, I haven't made it yet... might have to go mess around in the creator here soon. -
My character Bluff is a shapeshifter so I've recreated a few NPCs for her to change into, may have to borrow these costume files for some too
Currently she has Ms. Liberty:
Back Alley Brawler:
Blue Steel:
Hero 1:
A random Skull:
And a random Hellion:
I'm aware the color and body shape are slightly off on BAB and color is a little off on Blue Steel... plan on fixing that soon. Hero 1 is as close as possible, I found out the hard way his suit's blue isn't available in the costume editor's color palette. -
You also have to take out a number of Hellions. You could have all the fires needed for a badge, just kill a bunch of Hellions around the fire and it'll reward.

Quote:Monthly Fee: $15But then I would be buying the whole game all over again just for the code for the extras.
Wouldn't it be logical to sell the bonus stuff separately from outdated versions of the game?
Bonus pack: $10
Total price: $25
Box set: $20
Free Month: $15 equivalent
Bonus pack: $5 equivalent
Total Price: $20
It's cheaper to get the box... Mac Edition is better value than the Mac Item Pack. I bought the Architect Edition just so I could get the Magic pack for $5 cheaper. -
My computer crashed trying to use this thing. O.o
Kinda cool though, first time I've actually tried an augmented reality thing. -
My Ill/Rad Controller Magic Minx is a magician who was a member of Omega Team (the team that was to go through the Rikti portal to destroy it and end the first invasion), though she doesn't know it yet. (Future RP story, so keep this a secret from my SG-mates ;P)
Before the invasion she was a stage magician who used real magic, no hidden strings or smoke and mirrors, and at the time went by The Magnificent Meia. She volunteered for Omega team to help make up for not becoming a hero and helping save lives before the war. When the assault began she got caught in a stasis ray like some of the other members before making it to the portal itself. And just as it exploded she cast one last spell that sent her through her own small portal to escape, unfortunately the blast followed her through before it closed and knocked her out, causing her to land a number of years in the future without any memory of who she was then.
I even made up her letter for the time capsule: http://img268.imageshack.us/img268/2...meialetter.jpg
I also have an Ouroboros character named Acolyte Naomi whom I made as close to an exact copy of the outfit the Acolytes standing around wear as I could without their unique pieces. I've been told she looks like the Pilgrim's daughter so sometimes when I'm on her I just go to Ouroboros and stand next to him. -
I set mine for Ultra. I tend to be the kind of person who starts out at the top and then cuts things off as I go to make it work rather than start from the bottom and add on :P
Hoping I don't have to take anything off, considering I built this computer to run Crysis on the upper end of its settings (I can run the highest graphics settings with a slight drop in screen rate, just slightly below the highest and I work fine) But like I said I have a GeForce 9800GT which according to their shopping list isn't that high up on the hierarchy so I don't know how it'll come out. Seems funny that a 6 year old game will take more to run at highest settings than Crysis :P -
GeForce 9800GT pass. Planning on upgrading to a 275 or higher in the near future though.

Quote:It's a small story arc's worth. Or two and a half Giant Monsters. And I think this is the best argument for having merits nontransferable, though it's an addition to the system, not a necessary part. I'm not sure people would be that upset if the 5 merits were removed from the vet reward in favor of something else. 5 is not a lot of merits.
The fact some people already have the reward though makes replacing it with something else harder. Do you just leave those people with their merits or do you retroactively remove 5 merits from all of their characters? What if they don't have 5 merits left on a character? Do you put them in 'merit debt'? If you let them keep them then people would get angry that those people got something more out of their vet reward than those people getting the reward later. Slippery ground. -
Making merits untradeable makes perfect sense when you consider diminishing rewards. Making them tradeable would be a way around that.
Run an ITF on one character, get the rewards.
Transfer the merits to another character.
Immediately run the ITF again on that character, get full rewards even though you've already gotten them on the first character.
Transfer the merits to another character.
Wash, rinse, repeat as many times as you're willing to put up with an ITF (and trust me there are people who can run them all day).
Tickets are harder to come up with a reason not to make them tradeable other than the fact I just don't think they should (which considering your post seems like a logical reason because it's the same basic reason you think they should.) -
I think that new movie coming out, Kick-***, might provide some insight into this. We'll see soon enough I suppose.
But yeah, secret identities would be the most threatened by all the press. At least for the more public heroes like Superman (still fail to see how he could hide his identity with just a pair of glasses). As for the more behind the scenes heroes like say Daredevil, the press would definitely paint them in a negative light. "What are they hiding? Is the vigilante work simply a ruse?" etc. etc. -
It could work great for a Dominator Assault set. As it is I don't think Dominators have really any Natural attack sets, so something combining a sword and gun [maybe not a gunblade as Squaresoft might sue] could make a good set for them.

Quote:I think because then the other three travel powers would suffer greatly. As it is the four powers are pretty much balanced in terms of speed, endurance, maneuverability.Awww. Why not? Instead of Teleport Group power, this really would give the teleport feel a bit better.
If you allow Teleport to take you from say the RWZ to Perez Park in just the amount of time it takes you to load into the new zone then the others are at a severe disadvantage. -
Quote:I know nothing of how the Mac works so I wouldn't know. Since it would be clientside and run absolutely nothing through the internet I don't see why it would affect bandwidth. If you're speaking of how much of an impact it would make on your computer's memory I don't see it doing more than a regular media player like Realplayer or Windows Media Player.thats good... would it work for mac users? you can't forget about them. and since it would be client side, so as to not offend anyone else, the devs can not guarantee it will work correctly. i see this as an idea for a CoH/V 2 or another game but not this one.this just seems like something that would have to be built in from the very begining of writing code then something that can just be added in.
also, how much band width would it take to run? would people with bare minimum rigs be able to use it?
If coding the commands would be too much for the game then the utility could be coded to watch for command phrases within the game like JAM did. Unfortunately this runs the issue of spamming chat channels, because the way the JAM player worked was it would watch for when you said something like "!play Diary", which would enter the game's chat channels so that everyone could see it, but it would only be to activate the player. -
Quote:My response was that there be a special media player created for the game. I gave the example of JAM's JK2/JK3 Killtracker, which was a player-created utility for Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy that included a music player that would watch for commands made in-game that activated its features. (link to the utility here: http://jediknight3.filefront.com/fil..._Tracker;62941 Though I'm sure it means nothing to anyone here who didn't play those games)run in windowed mode. the problem with this is there are to many media players to code to work with the game. and then you can't guarantee that it won't cause massive problems with the game.
That would leave them with just one media player to code commands for. -
My very first post on these forums had to do with this :P
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=209680
So I'm all for it! -
Quote:I'm personally more interested in all of those villain groups that obviously got cut out.I chuckled when I saw Shape Shifting near the end of the list of powers
Seraphim? Revelation? Twilight Men? Killing Crew? Fear Factor?
I'd love to see what these villain groups may have been. -
I just use the default layout. Like Hero_of_Snow's but my chat window is smaller and I don't have all three powertrays open at once. I use the ctrl-# and alt-# commands (replacing # with whatever number the power is in the tray) to access those trays.
-
Really wish I was there for that. Bet it was awesome.
I say they add that to the invasion events!
