Does this happen to ONLY me?

I've been hanging out in Steel a lot more with my 50 and I sometimes go and stop fires from "burning down" buildings. But every time I do this some lowbie will rush up when I am almost about to get a fire and steal the "kill".

Is it only me that this happens to? It is probably the most annoying thing on the planet.

I didn't get any.

You also have to take out a number of Hellions. You could have all the fires needed for a badge, just kill a bunch of Hellions around the fire and it'll reward.

I doubt that. I have killed tons of Hellions around the fire.

Next time this happens, just invite them to your team, or ask them for an invite to theirs, then you will all share credit anyway.

As for knowing if you got credit or not... that's been a problem with those badges for some time. Because there is more than one objective for those badges, you can't always trust that progress bar, so best thing to do is just keep killing fires and wiping out Hellions with an AoE whenever you see them.

You'll eventually get them.

I believe that the bar doesn't show credit for the fires, only for the hellions. I know for the last fire badge, the bar fills up quickly with the hellion kills, but nothing for the fires.

If you hit the fire with the extinguisher, you got credit for it (you've done 10% damage), it just doesn't show up anywhere.

One sneaky thing to do is to hit each fire once, then start working on putting them out. You'll get the badges much faster that way.

Just a quick FYI: Apparently in most MMO's credit for a critter's defeat is given to whoever got the killshot. In this game it's based on whether you did enough damage to the enemy to qualify. It varies a bit, but it's usually somewhere between 10% and 25% of the total damage to the critter.

Some critters, like Hamidon in a Hamidon raid and the Rikti on the Mothership during a Mothership raid, give you full reward credit for you and/or your teammates doing any damage at all to them. (With Hamidon you have to personally damage Hamidon to get credit for the reward on defeat, but most everything else is based on anyone in your team doing damage.)

Interestingly, in WoW, credit goes to the guy doing the first bit of damage, therefore KSing doesn't really exist. It's the same in Allods Online. What you're talking about used to be the norm, back in the EverQuest days.

When I first started the game back in '07, I had some jerk following me around the Hollows "kill-stealing" me over and over. While it was annoying, I also had to laugh, as it's "what's the point?".

Dec out.

You still get Credit if you target it once, you might be able to cover more fire's on a team and earn the badge for putting the fire and stopping hellion there.

Actually, it doesn't vary. It WAS 25% but was changed to 10% quite a few issues back.
