  1. Ni brought her right-hand sword down in a smooth arc which was not slowed in the slightest by the blade's passage through the mentalist's armour. The Rikti coughed blood, and collapsed. Ni straightened, and looked for her next target, but there were none.

    BODI has locked down the Towers, Annette commented from the back of her mind. Ni pulled a display forward, presumably the one Annette had noticed, and read what was written there. Some kind of gas attack. Seems to have affected Unity rather than Vigilance, so the kids should be okay. Still...

    Ni backtracked through the tunnels, heading for the Vanguard base. She would come at the plaza from the outside, they could probably use someone there rather than inside the locked base.

    Annette activated a comm channel. BODI, if you've got a spare cycle or two, could you just check that Jacob and the others are okay? Then let us know if there's anything we can do from the outside.

    Well, mate, in starting this thread and making these posts, you have joined the doomsayers. I realise you probably think you haven't, but you have.

    With no official statement of a server or forum merge, you have decided to start a thread suggesting there will be one. The prosecution rests.

    Frankly, if it's a badge that was never meant to be doable by heroes, then there you go. There's a History badge they fixed recently; you could get one plaque because it was in a PvP zone, but never go further because the rest were in villain zones. They removed the progress indicator for heroes.

    It seems unheroic at best to get a badge for defeating Longbow who are, basically, only doing their job, when you're supposed to be on the same side.

    There are a couple of people investigating the amazing exploding boy and his various detonations and general messing up of the environment, so this thread is a place to keep all the storylets, summaries, investigative comments, yadda, that anyone wants to post.

    Moderate toxic DoT PBAoE. If done from Stealth, surrounding targets will not realise you are there.

  10. Except that Halloween is by no means a universal concept, Valentines definately isn't, and actually, neither is Christmas (not even as a 'mid-winter' festival).

    Idependance Day works fine, in-game, since the place we are playing in is supposed to be America.

    A nice IC idea would be to have a Memorial Day for the heroes lost in the First Rikti War. It has nothing to do with real world events, but it's an extra 'festival' for the game and I somehow imagine that the real CoX world would hold some form of commemoration event for that.
  11. Okay... to vamp it up a bit:

    Tier 9: I can see my house from here

    Range: 50 yds. Ranged AoE, affects a 10ft radius.

    You summon a hurricane. Anyone caught in the hurricane will be sucked violently into the air, up to ceiling height and then dropped, taking smashing damage.

    So, we have a 10 second hold as the targets are lifted off the ground and tossed around in the winds, then they fall. Since they're taking falling damage, this is only really effective on outdoor maps, but you do get the hold.

    Special effects: Swirling, hurrican winds which pick up objects which you will see swirling past. Obligatory objects are: a barn, a pick-up truck, a cow (which moos as it goes past).

    The Lost? Even though technically they are human, who have been mutated by whatever it was that mutated them.

    Nope, they are Science. The difference being that Lost were human (natural) and are being changed by an external force. A mutant was born with their mutation.

    Quite true. Not arguing. Just saying I, personally, don't need any more two-week long events where normal activity is massively disrupted.
  16. Linking the forums to the game would be... how to put this... a significant technical challenge.

    Far more likely would be the ability to drop notices into the game database which would then be shown on the terminals on the servers concerned.

    Now, I can see this working for some things, like a calendar of standard events, though it would be a little immersion damaging that you could do to an in-game terminal and ask when the Rikti were invading next.

    It could be used for more character-based 'adverts' like announcements of costume competitions or PvP events organised by players. That would likely work well in the US where the staff is bigger and someone could spend a little time once a day (or week) adding in new events, but over here the staff have enough strains on their resources.

    The other big problems are:

    1. If there aren't any events to display, it makes the game look less used and is bad for PR.

    2. The terminals would suffer from the fact that everyone thinks they are useless and don't look. The only people likely to notice they have a new purpose would be those who read the forums... and they can already find out about these events from the forums.

    Well, the telephones are there to support patrol missions.

    And if they actually did do anything useful with them, they would need to implement something similar red-side, and, let's face it, anything like that on the Isles would need built in chain guns to keep the vandals off.

    That's no suprise, since issue 14 is really issue 13.5, it will only contain only the MA, plus any other minor features they happen to have done in the time frame.

    BABs post in no way implies that there will be any powerset stuff in issue 14.

    At a rough guess, they'll try quite hard to get a few extra things in there. Probably nothing major, but some. After all the shouting following the 'is strong enough to stand on its own' remark, they probably want a few bits and bobs in there for the people who will scream the MA isn't for them (and be singing its praises a month later ).

    I find the Christmas one does less so than the Halloween one. The presents are everywhere, but they aren't every single door, so you get fewer cases where you walk onto a street to find a dozen or so Snowbeasts five levels above you that some nice person has spawned and then run away from.

    Plus, Halloween has the zombie invasions now, which are actually even more intrusive and irritating than Rikti invasion weekends..

    Overall, however, I agree with you. I am fairly fed up with 'events' which make playing the normal game a pain to do and would rather they not add any that did.

    So, Zortel's idea there would be cool.
  20. I know this is probably not exactly the kind of post you expect from me, I should be spouting technical gibberish about how it would be hard to do and yadda.

    However, this set strikes me as really, really boring.

    I can do a wind.
    Now I can do a slightly stronger wind.
    Now I can do a wind that ruffles your hair!

    The lower level powers look pretty much overpowered. The idea that a 'Calm Wind' does Moderate damage is fairly funny, I think that name would need changing.

    Also, I was pretty much expecting these to do Knockback. Storm Summoning does a lot of Knockback, and your set has 'chance of' in the Tier 9 power. Nope, not gonna fly thematically.

    In short. No, needs a lot of re-jigging before it could be used, and I don't think it's interesting enough to bother with. Storm Summoning works because it isn't nine powers based on eating lots of beans.
  21. It'd probably need an overlay grid dropped onto the floor in edit mode, so you could see what you were doing.

    Or, you initially place by drag-and-drop, and then can edit the coordinates manually if required. That was how Neverwinter Nights used to work, and it was a fairly good system.
  22. Well, we have the Valentines and Halloween events already, which don't really follow the same format at all.

    They all have themed missions based out of Pocket D.

    Halloween has 'present opening' via trick or treat through doors in the zones. It allows you to get a 5th costume slot by collecting salvage.

    Offhand, it's so long since I did a Valentines event I'd need to look it up to find out what happens outside Pocket D.

    There's probably room for a couple more events, but the Halloween one is a bit invasive. Too many like that is a pain. And having basically copies of the Winter event happening at other times would just be boring. These things really need to be fairly different to work.

    Don't be knocking the candy canes! I started a new character over christmas who, for some reason, very rarely opened a naughty present. She got a jingle jet out of about her first present! Very useful on a level 3 character. By friday, she had 12 candy canes and she CH'd them. That was about 600,000 Inf, on a sub-level 20 character. I'm not complaining.
