Easter or Summer Events?

Will there be any Easter or Summer Events?

For example, an Easter event can model on the Winter one. Opening presents can be replaced by Easter eggs hunt. And with so many Easter eggs collected, players can trade them for costume parts or temp-power like they what they did with the candy canes. I am thinking the Easter event should employ the theme of life and vitality. Perhaps one of the temp-power could be +recovery/regen or +resist to recovery/regen debuff (or +resist to end drain, may be?). Something like that. Haven't quite worked out how to adapt the ski slope and the baby time mission for the Easter event nevertheless.

For the Summer Event (or Mid-Summer Event), I propose to change the ski slope to water ski. I don't know what to replace present opening with: perhaps chasing ice-cream vans? But the the theme has to be something to do with heat or fire.

Of course, the above suggestions are made based upon the current format of the Winter Event. It would be nice to have some innovative events if any one could think of any.

Well, we have the Valentines and Halloween events already, which don't really follow the same format at all.

They all have themed missions based out of Pocket D.

Halloween has 'present opening' via trick or treat through doors in the zones. It allows you to get a 5th costume slot by collecting salvage.

Offhand, it's so long since I did a Valentines event I'd need to look it up to find out what happens outside Pocket D.

There's probably room for a couple more events, but the Halloween one is a bit invasive. Too many like that is a pain. And having basically copies of the Winter event happening at other times would just be boring. These things really need to be fairly different to work.

Valentine's Event happens entirely inside Pocket D: three missions in which the last has to have a member of the opposite faction to be completed and then beat Snaptooth 5 times (or more).

Independance Day Event: Instanced Outdoor Mission map, an address outside City Hall by Statesman and the Mayor and such, invaded by Arachnos. Take them down and the raid leader, rescue people too, and fight off te Arachnos Flier floating over City Hall.

That mission was exclusive to last Valentines day, sadly it didn't offer a badge or anything to really commerate the occasion.

Personaly i prefer the events to take place outside the main gaming zones , Halloween and the xmas ones effect the global game play , if they where tucked away in Pok D or some other event zone then they become much more user friendly , or maybe turn them into an event arc , with lots of repeatable missions ..then the rest of us can get on with the normal game ...just my two cents ...

Surprisingly, that had nothing to do with Valentine's Day per se, but more with the Special Wedding Event that happened during said Valentine's Day last year... and unless they start commemorating the wedding anniversary with the same mission (which would be a bit odd), I stand by my previous statement: Valentine's exclusive to Pocket D.

I find the Christmas one does less so than the Halloween one. The presents are everywhere, but they aren't every single door, so you get fewer cases where you walk onto a street to find a dozen or so Snowbeasts five levels above you that some nice person has spawned and then run away from.

Plus, Halloween has the zombie invasions now, which are actually even more intrusive and irritating than Rikti invasion weekends..

Overall, however, I agree with you. I am fairly fed up with 'events' which make playing the normal game a pain to do and would rather they not add any that did.

So, Zortel's idea there would be cool.

If they were to move the events like zombie and rikti to another location i feel it would completely ruin the point of them especially the rikti one its tied into the game lore and the gaming world.

Quite true. Not arguing. Just saying I, personally, don't need any more two-week long events where normal activity is massively disrupted.

[/ QUOTE ]Exaggeration much? I mostly ignored the last Rikti event; largely because I only realized it was a Rikti event sometime halfway through it, when people on my chat channel brought it up. You spend the majority of the game doing instances, and the Rikti don't follow you into those to bother you.

Yeah, I don't have the zone event alert on, usually. But really, what were you doing that the Rikti event "massively disrupted", farming the Numina Task Force?

I like non-instanced events. Winter, Halloween, Valentine, GMs, Rikti, Zombies etc, I love them
I am however not a fan of kill-steal games (like ROSE Online) where none adventure are instanced. CoX has a good blend imho.

Some ideas for seasonal events:

St Michael: A dragon GM do occasionally appear.

Flu season: A contagious disease spreads, infected people will temporary have reduced endurance, zero regeneration and slightly decreased move speeds. Coughing attacks (causing a few seconds hold) randomly appear.

Some non-seasonal events:
Hamas: Qassam rockets randomly hits. Intercept them in midair for badges.

Tsunami: A giant killer wave hits the cities. People are advices to move as far as possible from beaches.

Can we have one that kills pedestrians too?

"And today marks the start of the third, annual Vazhilok Plague Release Day. Zombies will be shambling through the streets greeting passers-by with hearty hello's, big hugs, and a massively contagious infection. The usual street vendors will be available selling face masks and 'I Survived the Plague' T-shirts for those who did.

"As normal, the city's hospitals will be opening their doors, well, they have to, the steady stream of 'celebrants' means it's not worth closing them. And heroes can go on festive cure hunts.

"The Doctor himself will be riding through the city on his open-topped Plaguemobile on Friday to thank everyone for their participation and to ask for body part donations.

"And now over to Trisha for the weather."

"Braaaiiiins!"

(Sorry, couldn't resist that.)

Rofl.

Btw, an Independence Day event isn't going to happen, due to each Independence Day being country-specific. That's why a Thanksgiving or Burns Night event can't happen either.

Except that Halloween is by no means a universal concept, Valentines definately isn't, and actually, neither is Christmas (not even as a 'mid-winter' festival).

Idependance Day works fine, in-game, since the place we are playing in is supposed to be America.

A nice IC idea would be to have a Memorial Day for the heroes lost in the First Rikti War. It has nothing to do with real world events, but it's an extra 'festival' for the game and I somehow imagine that the real CoX world would hold some form of commemoration event for that.

if you want something unique no other game has, it's the first best choice.

I suppose some sort of Summer event could involve a tropical island theme.

And I would vote for the Banished Pantheon being involved (Tiki Totems anyone?) and being available to all levels much like the Tuatha and Red Caps are for the Winter event.

Plot-wise I have no idea however a few unlockables would include:

Tiki Sunglasses - unlockable costume item.
Hawaiian Shirt - unlockable costume item.
Hanky Hat - unlockable costume item

Sunblock - Special Summer Event Invention Set (Resistance or Defence, not sure)

Maybe some emotes could be added such as Ice Cream Cone, Parasol and Build Sandcastle.

I do like the Independence Day theme too. Nemesis immediately springs to mind, for some reason...

Another idea for summer is heat waves.
During a heatwave, everyone outside is affected by tiny fire DoT (just equivalent to nullify the regeneration of a character with zero fire resistance and no regen powers or buffs), reduced endurance, slower recovery.
Effects are reduced nearby waters.
Most elderly pedestrians stay inside.
Pedestrians gathers at waters and eat ice cream.

Edit: Ice creams are sold by street vendors for maybe 10 inf (affordable by lvl 1 chars). It is a temporary power that nullify the effects by the heatwave for a few minutes. Ice creams can also be given to other players.
