Is Grounded a skippable power for an electric brute? My energy resistance is already nearly capped in my early 20s, and I can pick up immob and knockback protection through Combat Jumping and a KB prot IO (or Acrobatics). But I have yet to see an /elec build that skips Grounded. What am I missing? Is the end drain resistance that noticeable?
Edit: And yes I realize CJ and Acro would mean taking 2 powers instead of 1. But I was planning to take CJ anyway and use a KB IO, I only mentioned Acro because I realized while typing that's another option. -
I've done a few characters like that. I have a DB/SR Scrapper who uses ninja run for her travel power, and an Arch/Dev Blaster with super jump explained away by jump jet boots. If I had to suggest sets for the other archetypes?
Defender - Either TA/Arch or Traps/AR
Tanker - Shield/Mace or Axe or WP/SS (Avoiding the more overtly superhuman SS powers like Hurl)
Controllers are tricky. I can't really see any of the primaries being justified for a natural character, and TA is the only secondary that really works. Once upon a time I did have a Mind/Emp natural controller, who had unlocked the full potential of the human mind through deep meditation, but that was a bit of a stretch.
I don't play redside nearly as much, so I'll leave those for someone else to fill in. -
There have definitely been fires. I created an ice/cold controller specifically for the winter event, and I remember fighting fires with him. Can't say I've seen any troll raves, but haven't been looking for them either. I suspect the OP is just having a string of bad luck. Do you have hero zone event messages turned on in one of your chat windows?

Hitting 50 is not the end of the game. There are badges to collect, task forces to run, Rikti and Hami raids. You can keep inching closer to perfection through better set enhancements, including purples which can't even be slotted until you reach 50. If hitting 50 meant my character who I worked so hard on would be taken away from me, I would be more than a little perturbed. If they were to implement your suggestion, I would expect a mass exodus from the game, and quite possibly an angry mob with torches and pitchforks would show up at Positron's house.
Not to mention, it would do nothing to stop powerleveling. I imagine many people would rush to level 49 and then turn off xp there. -

I think I still might have a couple of alts holding onto Discipline inspirations.

I usually take Sands of Mu, but quite a few of my characters took the axe instead. Sometimes their concept just makes it so the flurry of fists doesn't feel right. My mace tanker is a collector of medieval weaponry, so it makes sense he would have an axe, even if from a DPS/weapon redraw standpoint the Sands would have been a smarter choice. And as people have said, if you already do negative energy damage, the axe will be a lot more help against neg-resistant foes.
Either way, I hardly ever use either power past the low-teens or so (except maybe on controllers), so I don't fret too much about making the "wrong" choice. -
I always seem to have difficulty choosing my level 49 power. Something about the finality of NO MORE CHOICES afterward makes me lock up a bit in endless debate. So this time I'm asking for a little input from the community.
My latest project, about to turn 49, is a DB/SR scrapper. She was intended from the beginning to have no travel power - due to the tightness of the build and for conceptual reasons. She got to level 46 before Ninja Run became available, so now she uses that and I delude myself into believing this is still "natural."
Her current powers:
Dual Blades - Everything except Confront
Super Reflexes - All 9
Fitness - Swift, Health, and Stamina
Medicine - Aid Other and Aid Self
Leaping - Combat Jumping
Powers I'm considering for her last pick:
Caltrops - Not terribly necessary since she can slice and dice most things before they think about running away, but fits nicely into her natural concept.
Hasten - Only thing that really stopped me from picking it earlier is the glowy hands. Now though, I feel like Elude is the only power that would seriously benefit. And even without being all-IOed out, defenses are high enough that a small purple softcaps all positions, so I don't really need Elude that often.
Hurdle - Had been planning to get it just to complete the fitness pool and add a little travel speed. But now with Ninja Run, I feel like it's just superfluous.
Focused Accuracy - Probably not even a serious contender, just because I hate the huge end cost.
So, any advice? Something I didn't think of? I'm planning a respec anyway just to move some slots around, but I really don't want to drop any of the powers I already have. -
Quote:I thought they changed it so that if everyone else quits (really quits, not just logs out) then the TF was disbanded.Illusion/Rad controller. Even if everybody else in the TF quits, you'll probably be able to finish on your own.
Edit: I understand that wasn't really the point you were making though. Ill/Rad can be like god mode. -

OK, maybe Isolator was a bad example. I'm just saying, that was a change I had at one point given up hope of them ever making. I'm still hopeful they'll make this change as well. I've really never liked the "events here seem to be beneath your notice" thing. Seems fairly non-heroic to me.
"Superman! Help me! Those thugs are robbing my store!"
"Pfft. Screw you, gramps. I don't get any xp in this neighborhood. Maybe Booster Gold can help you." -
I've been wishing for this since the day they introduced Safeguards. My badger was 50 before that happened, so she couldn't get anything but the PI mission. She soloed the bulk of her career and I'm not really keen on finding other people to tag along with to get those badges and temp powers. I'm still holding out hope that either through Ouro or the Super Sidekicking mechanism they'll add some way to solo lower level safeguards and mayhems.
Hey, they threw us a bone so we could get Isolator on toons who missed it (or were created before it existed), and I had long given up on that happening. You never know. -
Nope. Only took Char, Melt Armor, and Fireball from the APP. Might have taken Fire Blast if I had room for it, but he's already got plenty of attacks and there was nothing I could justify dropping to add it.

Quote:Good advice in most cases to be sure, but the toon I got it with is a scrapper. Char is the ONLY power he has that can take ranged set enhancements. If you don't mind me piping in with a bit of advice, I would recommend putting this into whatever your fastest recharging single target attack is.

Great. That's what I was expecting, but wanted to make sure before I slotted it. Thanks for the quick answer!

If I slot Devastation: Chance to Hold in a power such as Char, which takes ranged damage set enhancements and is already a hold power, how will it function? Will the proc increase the magnitude of the hold when it hits? Or would I just be wasting a slot?

Just for fun, I'm planning to make a concept toon whose only attacks will be Shadow Maul, Sands of Mu, Flurry, and Brawl (6 slotted of course!). He'll need to be Dark Melee obviously, but I'm undecided on his AT and other set. My first inclination is a Dark/SR scrapper, but I'd like to hear other ideas. Any suggestions? Will this toon do enough damage to be playable at higher levels?
And no, the thread title won't be his actual name. -
My obligatory fallen angel toon is Skylite, a Fire/Willpower scrapper. Flaming sword of vengeance and protected by supernatural force of will. Tons of fun to play. He took the Presence pool for putting the fear of god into bad guys.
I also have Cupidia, an Empathy/Archery defender. Virtually impossible to solo with, but a lot of fun on teams. -
I always thought it would be neat if changing costumes actually meant something in terms of game mechanics. Like say your second costume slot is a big burly armored version, like Iron Man's Hulkbuster armor, and you linked it to a second build that's more geared toward damage resistance, so that whenever you change to that costume it always uses that build as well. (Holy run-on sentences, Batman!)
But I quickly realized that such a mechanic would place unnecessary restrictions on us, and those of us that want to RP such a thing can just do it manually without having to force it on anyone else. (Although of course we can't just change builds in the field whenever we want.) -
Ha. OK, 13 hours later, I just realized this was in the PvP board. It's entirely possible everything I posted is irrelevant, as the majority of my PvP experience involves getting jumped while grabbing Shivans or Warburg nukes. Ignore this, nothing to see here. Move along.
