Good luck with that. I had a build for Arcana a while back with Presence for the fears and the taunts and it was quite nice as well as very thematically apt. I'm speced into Medicine currently for raid wipe recovery but Presence is the pool I'd have on second build if I wasn't too lazy to fund one.

Quote:My experience is the same. Unofficially of course. >.>The population can't be down that much. Their "open" beta isn't all that open. Given the friends I have that I play COH with went in, tried it, and gave it a universal "this is awful," I have no reason to wander over there. (Not that I'd planned to to begin with, for multiple reasons.)
Now, APB, SGW (if it ever gets out) or KOTOR? Sure...
I don't personally know anyone who's bothering with CO. I can understand a small blip while people check out the new kid, but leaving? Naw. -
Quote:Warshade neg. energy resists help.I've been in that situation, and take great joy in rushing right in to start chopping one down while the team is sitting at the room opening deciding what the strategy should be to take them down... I'll usually hit my bind that says "CYSTSNOMNOMNOM!"
I still have yet to encounter a situation where a cyst has overwhelmed my human-form WS... I enjoy soloing them.
"The One"
Yeah the thing that gets teams wiped isn't the cyst. It's generally the panic over it's appearance. Something about the nictus bloom makes people freeze up or run around in circles. I like to wade in and taunt until the team regroups. Then I mutter about the trouble with in-laws. -
This is two issues:
Quote:According to my calculation, all of the above works out to 8.37 seconds of power activation after each and every fight. If your friends play like my friends, they've cleared out the next mob while you're still retoggling. After each mob this is my typical procedure:
- switch from Nova or Dwarf to Human (my macro automatically turns on Gravity Shield)
- utilize Dark Extraction if it is recharged
- hit Stygian Return to top off my HP's and End
- engage Super Speed
- activate Combat Jumping
- power on Sprint
- enfold myself in Shadow Cloak
- empower Inky Aspect
There's no single correct solution. It boils down to playstyle. If your intention is to fight mainly in Nova form you don't need to retoggle all that between fights. If you stick to Dark Extraction and Stygian, you'll cut down your casting time by almost half, to 4.37 seconds. Less really because you won't be summoning a pet after every fight.
Quote:When I enter a mob I have Inky Aspect and Gravity Shield running, hit Eclipse, Sunless Mire, Gravitic Emanation, Unchain Essence, Dark Extraction, Stygian Circle (if needed), then enter Nova or Dwarf to finish the battle. Do you use a similar entry procedure when you engage a mob?
Bottom line is it's about streamlining your form shifting. Don't waste time activating toggles you don't need, especially if you know you're going to shift back into Nova in a few seconds. While in human form and fully toggled, don't use time needlessly shifting to Nova to blast some straggling lieutenant at 20% health. And if you know that Mire, Eclipse, your pet, etc. isn't going to be recharged for the next fight, don't drop Nova needlessly. -
Quote:That's the first time I've heard this and my Warshade hit 50 sometime in I4. OD has the same mechanic as any other PBAoE. Remember - this was Cryptic's overworked, underfunded dev team. They weren't about to sink development time into an original meta-pet AI when they could just re-skin Death Shroud.3 fluffy things float around on a circumference. Enemies between you and them didn't get hit but enemies on their flight path did get hit.
OD originally had four koosh balls of doom. The graphic was stealth nerfed for optimisation around a year ago. The asymmetry of having three balls still annoys me.
I use it all the time. At 0.78 eps It's a pricey-ish toggle but so is Hotfeet at 1.04 and Controllers/Doms don't get Stygian Circle to fuel it. The endurance cost of a power shouldn't really be much of an issue to any Warshade over lvl 20.
OD's major problem is that it's available far too early. Level 30 is a good place for it, i.e. right after Inky Aspect. It needs Inky to mitigate the aggro and Stygian to keep it running. At anything below lvl 20 it gets you drained and dead, hence its' bad reputation.
In a nutshell I use OD the same way my Tank uses Icicles. Add Eclipse and it's possible to tank bosses in human form while the minions wander about getting DoTed to death. -

ImageShack gives you the code to display both full sized and thumbnails of hosted images.

Rainbow Arcana, Blaster turned Warshade. Diamond D, the renegade Outcast he befriended and redeemed. The outfit? Um, he likes leather.
Formal costume for those times he needs to shakes hands on camera and Statesman objects to the fetish gear.
Arcana's Vanguard armor, because Dee Dee doesn't like bruises he didn't make himself.

I agree with Obsidian on both counts. Aside the lack of accuracy in Dwarf Drain this looks pretty solid.

Quote:Honest question. In terms of raw DPS you're quite right. It boils down to playstyle. I play in human form about 90% of the time and reserve buffed Nova mainly for AV fights where it does superior damage. I'll also use Nova if the team is really low on DPS or has a lot of lockdown and doesn't need the soft control. Not to quibble but I would like to ask your honest opinion on why Orbiting Debt is a good power.
By my reckoning I can just chain one aoe squid attack and surpass O.D.'s damage by miles and miles.
Not trying to be insulting, I am just honestly wondering what it is about that power you like.
Any other fight goes like this: Toggle Grav Shield, Shadow Cloak, OD and Inky. Port in behind the Tank, Mire, Eclipse, Unchain Essence the first corpse, grab a fresh pet if it's up.
Sure I'm not doing as much damage as I would if I mired, eclipsed and hit Nova, but I've sown mayhem. Everything is staggering around stunned. Mobs with interruptable attacks are shut down by the DoTs. The squishies are picking off targets with impunity. I'm off-tanking with capped resists if the Tank needs backup and blapping if he doesn't. By the time Grav Well recharges the second time everything is usually arrested. Plus the meleers never moan about knockback. -
What server are you on? Because if you're on Virtue or a server that raids, HOs are your friend. The lack of accuracy in Ebon Eye, Gravitic and Inky make me a sad squid. Mire is great and all but why be shackled to it. If you really can't spare a second slot, a nucleolus (acc/dmg) and a pair of endoplasms (acc/mez) will serve you well.
Absorption is a good place for a Steadfast unique in addition to the -kb and will net you a +recovery bonus.
I agree that Shadow Cloak is overslotted. --> Danger Will Robinson: That 5% recharge from Red Fortune is doing nothing because according to Mids you're over the cap. You'd be better served by reducing it to two slots and redistributing the bounty to any one of the powers you currently have one-slotted. Put that LotG unique into one of those two slots instead of afterthoughting it at 49. If the only reason you took Grant Invis was to park that LotG, you can take something else now.
Unchain Essence needs love badly.
Stygian doesn't need the heal. You can harvest another one or two slots there. Remember it doesn't require a tohit check so all that accuracy is wasted. Consider frankenslotting for endmod/rech.
Unlike Tanker taunt, Dwarf taunt does require a tohit check. (Or it did. My info might be outdated.)
Yes, Grav Snare is sort of useless. I really think you'd benefit more from Orbiting Death, as controversial a power as it is. OB plus Inky is pretty nice. It's a pricey toggle however and will need four or five slots from somewhere. Grav Shield is a good candidate. With Eclipse you don't need to slot up a S/L shield.
Steal a slot from Gravity Well. The 6-bonus is 2.5% psi resist. You have Eclipse which makes the bonus redundant.
Do some juggling and post the results! -
The 20-24 was "Retrieve the stolen weapons from the Freakshow" which awards the Pwnz badge so I think you're right on. The 25-30 was "The Redemption of Alexander 'the Great'" which - son of a bee - is also a badge arc (just checked Red Tomax). So I think that solves one mystery. Thanks!
Anyone else see this issue with disappearing emotes? -
In the last three days I've experienced a rash of errors with two characters. None are serious by themselves but I'm starting to worry about the possibility of a larger error with my characters or my account and I don't where to start fixing it.
Kid Scorpio - brand new Blaster. Late last week I earned him Task Force Commander and purchased the Vanguard costume change emote. Yesterday (the 9th) the costume change emote vanished from his menu.
Rainbow Arcana - old main since I3. Also purchased the Vanguard emote a week ago. As of yesterday it's also MIA.
On Saturday the 8th I ran a series of Flashback missions with Arcana. I completed a level 20-24 arc with the conditions "No Travel Powers" and "Character is Debuffed." The badges failed to award. I repeated the same arc with the same conditions. Still no badges. I ran a different arc in the level 25-29 range with the same two conditions. For a third time the badges failed to award but this time the client listed his last earned badge as Task Force Commander. This is Scorpio's last earned badge, not Arcana's (he's had it since 2004).
I'm out 200 Vanguard merits and about three hours play time trying to get the badges. Not onerous but I'm unwilling to drop more time and merits only to have them vanish again. The notion that my main and my new favourite might be corrupted in some way gives me a twitch. Any ideas? -

Using Nova form, slither up to teammate all inconspicuous-like. Type:
/e Lays eggs in $target's ears.
Tends to get me slapped. -
50 Mercs/FF
1. Medic already has Aid Other and Stimulant. Give him Aid Self so he can bandage his own boo-boos. Give him Resurrect and I'll kiss Castle on the lips.
2. SpecOps stealth is pointless. Give them a stealth strike ability from hidden. Remove the stealth -speed debuff so they don't straggle behind. That or remove the stealth altogether.
3. Serum *sigh* Do something, anything with this that puts it even close to the level of Gangwar. -
FF, you took a power that would normally be highly situational on a team and used it as a brilliant "oh ****" button. A perfect example of quick thinking that probably prevented a wipe. Bravo for original thinking under pressure.
You didn't get kicked for using Force Bubble. You got kicked for bruising a bad Tanks ego. -

I'd disagree, again using personal shield/armor powers as an example. Characters who have those tend to get access to them pretty early -- level four or so. On the other hand, a true "costume part" that creates a similar visual effect doesn't open up until level 30. So again, a Human Torch-like design, where a power or energy effectively is the costume, is sort of left out of the fun. So if anything, such a rule places more weight on high-level elements for characters like that.
Besides, if having an element in a design that others don't have access to for whatever reason is some kind of unfair advantage, does that mean shields or weapons should be disqualified too? What about vet rewards, or unlockable items, or items from booster packs?
If it really detracts from the costume's look, fine -- I guess that character won't be winning, then, just like if they had an awesome costume with a dumb-looking hat or something.

Running any power aura is also unfair to the contestants you're standing next to. Lineups in CCs can get shoulder-to-shoulder tight and a person who's worked hard on a detailed or delicately coloured costume is washed out, clashes or otherwise ends up not showing to best effect when they're standing a foot away from Captain Glowie McFirebulb. The whole point of a good, contest-winning costume is that it shouldn't require an aura as a prop to bring it together.
Of course you can't force people to turn off auras, you can only ask. If someone refuses... well they don't win.
My beef is with people who insist on CCs in full darkness during night mode when you can't actually see the costumes properly. Jeez, wait ten minutes until morning. -

Yes! The Extraordinary [censored] Clowns. It was a group of players (from the Blaster forums, IIRC) that decided to roll up a toon and abide by only one rule: "It's my $15, I'll play however I want." That was an awesome group of people and we, surprisingly, steam-rolled the Hollows. There was a Scrapper that would run through the level and pull *everything* back to the group, that was his 'thing'. As Fulmens stated, we had Tankers that would play Defender, Blasters that played Controller/Defender, Defenders that played Blasters, etc. That was the only time I actually had fun in the Hollows. I had an AR/Dev Blaster that played Controller using only Trops, Web, Taser and Beanbag, but never used any attack abilities because "I'm a Controller, not a Damager."

Oh Sweet Jasper I didn't know anyone still remembered the A** Clowns. Yes it was all Blaster forum regulars circa 2005.
The AR/Dev "Controller" was Ohms (the whole thing was mainly his idea.) I don't recall who was behind the healing Tank but he used to tell people on PuGs that he was a pacifist and that he was roleplaying a combat medic. I remember one guy (I don't recall his AT) who did nothing but run in circles barking. He was a were-dog. A** Clown teams marked the only time I have ever seen newbies quit Hollows PuGs in horror.
The core players of the A** Clowns had so much fun we founded a regular SG on Virtue that exists to this day. -

It's Canada Day. All the canucks have the day off.
Of course everything's closed for the holiday. And all the celebrations in my city have been canceled because of a city worker's strike.
And it's raining.
Wait! I'll play City of Heroes! Or not... Guess I'll sit at home in the rain and stare at my garbage.

Although I do hope they've done some decent research and haven't futzed up the Arcana archetypes. -
The Server Status page now features a closeup shot of a guy's backside. I can work with that.
