    Brutes on paper

I was going to post a new thread but this one touches on the same subject I was going to ask about to an extent.

I recently started lvling a WP/SS tanker and then found out about GR. Playing a brute or any villain AT on heroside is very appealing to me.

My question is not whether or not brutes are fun I played one very briefly and only stopped as I don't really care for red side that much. What I want to know is how similar is a SS/WP brute compared to a WP/SS tank?

I know they're different but still being relatively new to the game (my highest lvl toon is 30) I'm not really familiar with a lot of things and I don't want to keep lvling my tanker if lvling a brute with similar powersets will feel stale. I've tried the other powersets briefly but I'm a huge fan of SS for some reason... well I know what the reason is... SMASH!!!

    leveling pact

We're not necessarily looking for the quickest way to lvl per se... it was just an idea we were kicking around. However, I do like the idea you suggest of making two pairs but lvling them with opposite members. I'm in no huge rush to have a ton of lvl 50s or anything... I don't even have one yet my "high lvl" toon is 30 lol.

I have always wanted to try a Brute because of the fury machanic but unfortunately it's only for villains.

My question is...do I have to wait for GR to come out before I can create a villain and then bring him blue side...or can I create and start playing the Brute right now and switch him when GR comes out?
Any toon can switch sides at any lvl from what I understand. The difference is that if you wait til GR comes out you can start in a different area.

    leveling pact

That's true... so in the grand scheme of things would you say it's faster just to lvl the two as a duo?

    leveling pact

My girlfriend and I were thinking of making new toons and starting a leveling pact. What we then thought about was taking one of our higher level toons and sidekicking one of the lower lvl ones in theory lvling both a little faster.

I'm just curious as to whether or not anyone has tried this.

This... I'm a huge fan of play how you like, while you may not do as much damage as fire/fire or whatever top damage builds are out there all that matters is that you're having fun.

I don't play psi at all because I just don't care for it but while the damage isn't great I can't imagine that it's so bad that you won't be able to contribute to a team.

    Freedom PvP

That's pretty much what I was looking for thanks!

    Freedom PvP

So everything I've read has pointed out that Freedom is the "unofficial" pvp server. I have yet to pvp in this game but I'm sure it will eventually happen as it is something that I do enjoy in MMOs.

My question is what the pvp zones are like. I assume arenas are very much like they are in WoW... small area an equal number of red and blue first team to fall loses. But what are the open zones like? I know in some MMOs pvp zones tend to be a gankfest for high lvls to prey on toons with no chance of winning which I'm sure happens to an extent (every game has it's A-holes) but I'm hoping it's more competetive. I know when I played WoW if I saw someone more than a couple lvls below me I would leave them alone... it just seems stupid and there was no challenge which is part of what makes a game fun.

The less HP you got the more dmg u do. That is why some Blasters hated it when an empath was on team healing him all the time

    Defiance now works as this:

OH! So that's why I was able to fire off flares when it said I was slept the other night. I thought the game was glitchy but since it kept me alive I didn't complain lol.

    Thanks!
  10. Thanks for the responses... but I'm ashamed to admit I got lost at "defiance" and "mezzed" lol

Ran a couple of incredibly synergistic 8-man PuGs this past weekend on Freedom, never had any trouble forming the teams or keeping them full over the course of about a 4-hour run.

Just this morning, logged in and had a full 8-man team up-n-running in under 4 minutes with NO BLIND INVITES.

This was before noon Eastern, on a Wednesday.

Granted I may have benefited from school closings due to the Midwest blizzard, but overall I find this game very healthy, and teaming very easy, fun, and rewarding.

Thanks to all the heroes who've made my last few PuGs so outstanding. If you were running with Cougarific, Dismael, or Ms. Illkin as your lead, you all did a really super job, and were tons of fun.

I would agree with this. I logged in last night (about 9:45 eastern) and within five minutes was invited to a team and finally got to lvl 26 woot! After the team ended I noticed plenty of people in broadcast looking for teams or members.

This is on Virtue which, from what I understand is one of if not the most populated server but I also have a toon on Victory which is low pop and while it looks dead I still get at least one /tell asking if I want to join a team if I'm playing a toon over there.

    PvP on Virtue

Hi Virtue! My main toon is on this server and likely always will be. Actually almost all my toons are as I've only made toons on other servers to play with girlfriend who I convinced to move her main here (WIN!). I'm not a hardcore RPer but I really like how much people get into it.

Anyway, my question is regarding PvP... most say to make a toon on Freedom for PvP but I very much enjoy sticking to one server when it comes to MMOs so I'm curious as to why that is. Do people not PvP at all on Virtue or is it just that it's more of a focal point on Freedom like how RP is here?
  13. Hi, I'm Radubadu and... I'm an altoholic...

I realize that this is a question that could be asked for any AT but as I mostly play blasters I thought I'd post it here. Do the secondaries vary gameplay to the point that playing the same primary set doesn't get stale?

I thought about this playing my AR/EN last night. I love fire/fire (as can be seen in another thread I started lol) but I would love to have some of the knockback stuff that /EN gets on my Fire blaster.
  14. I've noticed in a lot of Fire/Fire builds people do not take flares and I was curious as to why this is. My FF blaster is my highest lvl toon at 25 and I use all of the powers I've given him thus far quite regularly.

Also, on the subject (everytime I start a thread I end up asking more than the question I originally intended lol), are there any powers that are absolutely "must haves"? I know hasten is one from everything I've read, I'm just curious as to whether or not there are any others regardless of what pool they come from that I should make sure I have. Especially the ancillary pools as I've yet to get that far but am intending on flame (character concept and I LIKE FIRE!!!).
  15. Radubadu

    How Many.....

I have almost all my character slots on Virtue filled... about half of those are blasters lol

However, I would say I've only been "active" with 3... two of those are blasters lol

I like to blow stuff up.

I don't want to get too much into it because it's been hashed out in other threads but most of the red content feels like hero content with a thin coat of paint. Instead of "Rescue Suzie Pimpleton", it's "CoT mages kidnapped Suzie Pimpleton so you should go... ummm... kidnap her from them and then, I dunno, I guess you ransom her after you've logged off or something." There's a few exceptions but I mostly just feel I'm either running hero missions or acting as a chump to some contact who's having me do his grunt work for little reward (at least as a hero, virtue is its own reward).

So, if I'm going to be a wannabe hero anyway, I might as well be in Paragon City.
Oops... definitely misread your prior post lol. Re-reading it and this post I see your point though... I wonder if I would enjoy red side more if it was more villainous.

I don't know I guess I can't suspend my morality for a video game, I don't think there's anything wrong with someone who can... I just can't lol I even hated trying to be bad in Fable.
  17. I don't know that I'll switch any of my toons. I don't care too much for red side because as someone else pointed out it really feels like you're playing a villain, I get that that's the idea but I don't wanna be a bad guy lol... that said I may start a villain or two to turn into heroes.

I just wish it could be an opposition without such a distinction between good and evil... for example horde and alliance in WoW *ducks income flame* horde is considered "bad" but if you pay attention to the lore they really aren't. Unfortunately for the setting of the COX I have no good suggestion to make that possible. It's a comic book game... there has to be bad guys lol.

I do have a question regarding this though... anyone know if you switch one to the other if you can go back?
  18. Fire/Fire all the way... but since that's not an option I would say Fire/Ice... but I'm obviously partial to fire.

The game was killed in issue 5 and 6, its been on life support since, they turned that down to with this MA/AE stuff, which lost even more ppl (I know because both my sons stopped playing their accounts)

Only time will tell if the pops will ever come back, maybe they will start server merging soon?
I've not been playing for very long but regardless of current pop numbers isn't COX still doing fairly well all things considered? Ok it doesn't have millions of subscribers like WoW (I'm thankful for this) and Aion's launch probably had some people leave (tried Aion... good game but not for me).

If you look at the literally hundreds of options people have for MMOs COX is still doing better than most and being original in it's setting (not fantasy i.e. FFXI, WoW, Aion) is probably going to help it continue to maintain.

Ultimately look at it like this... the last thread I read concerning population showed it at just under 130K... let's say it's wrong... let's say it's only 100K...

100,000 subs * $15/month = (insert Dr. Evil voice here) $1.5 MILLION... a month... $18 MILLION a year for the past four years (since issue 6) = SEVENTY TWO MILLION DOLLARS. Your life support analogy is a bit thin. Not to mention that if it wasn't profitable they wouldn't be working on an expansion.

I'm sorry to say but if you're logic consists of "my two sons and I play but they quit therefore: COX lost 66% of their player base and is set for failure" it's slightly flawed. Not to mention that you have people like me that are fairly new to the game so don't assume that just because someone quits (even if it's your sons) that other people won't start.

Sorry for the semi-rant, I'm sure that the veterans that disagree with this view are slightly annoyed by posts like this but it's even more disheartening for people just starting out and if you really want to keep playing this is counter-productive as it may scare new people away... "why do I want to start playing a game that's dying?"

We get 5 slots so if I want my fire/fire blaster to have black/red fire for one of my costumes (cuz he does ) why should I let anyone tell me not to use that? On the other hand I can't imagine what would possibly give me the right to tell someone else "Hey your neon green and yellow radiation is ugly change it".

It's a game I say play how you want. I play with another blaster on a regular basis who uses hot pink for their fire. I certainly wouldn't pick it... but to each their own.

YMMV, but I really didn't care for the character's size, unfortunately by the time the problem really sank in to me the character was in his 20's so I just stuck with it and coped. He ended up as my 2nd level 50 character but once the Science pack with the super tailor was released I shrank him down to about 6'6".

If you have the Science booster pack then you can always change your character model so you could try it and see what your experiences are, I found anything much taller than 6'6" irritating in confined maps.
Still being relatively new to the game I'm not familiar with the booster packs... assuming I don't have the science booster pack how would I go about getting it? At this point I'll probably just reroll as he is still very low I'm just curious.
  24. So far I've made AR/EN, Arch/MM, Rad/EN... now my problem is logging in and picking which one to play lol.
  25. Not my primary or secondary powersets but more about the size of my toon. I made him rather large and before I get to far into lvling him (only lvl 3 atm) I'm wondering if making him as big as I did will be an issue when teaming due to camera angles/etc to make sure I can see everything going on. Put simply, is it possible to make a toon too big that seeing everything in a fight is hindered?

The easy answer of course is to just make him smaller but I made him wp/ss and I hate seeing the "average" built toon and trying to imagine him with super strength.
