I like...
...the Arena and the options it has available to it.
...the speed of PvP (without Travel Suppression).
...There being PvE objectives that lure me into PvP zones (even if they could use some tweaking).
...PvP IOs (and wish the drop rate were looked at / there was any additional PvP-related way to get them, such as rewards in Siren's Call).
Quote:Speaking as someone who has been building bases since I6 and has logged hundreds of hours in the editor, I remember when bases had a feature we no longer do: Raiding. We have an entire subset of items that we can't use right now (and many others that are moot) because a form of PvP was pulled outright from the game either because of or timed along with the ability to intersect items.Originally Posted by UnjustYou PVPers may still have hope. A big portion of what bases were initially intended for might hinge on PvP finally getting some love. And PvPers potentially had a fun activity removed so we can do what we currently do.
I know you want base love. I do too, desperately... But keep in mind that in some very important respects PvP and Bases are intertwined. -

So I assume if more than one team ties for the least deaths, then the one with the fastest time will win? -
P.E.R.C. Presents: Iron-Man ITF Race
Saturday, March 5th @ 7 PM Eastern
Over 7 billion inf. in prizes!
What:
The Iron-Man ITF is a challenging race against the clock and your fellow players as part of a 3-man team. You and your team mates will fight your way through countless Cimeroran traitors, mythical beasts, and cosmic threats all the while aiming to set the best time for completion amongst all the competing teams. There will be prizes awarded to the top 3 fastest teams and the team with the fewest deaths! And, following the race, there will be a Cimeroran-themed costume contest!
This event was suggested by a player; Infinity's own Dark Bladed. Many thanks to him for taking the time to talk to us about it!
When:
All times listed are for Saturday, March 5th.
The race window begins at: 7 PM Eastern / 6 PM Central / 4 PM Pacific
The race window ends at: 9:30 PM Eastern / 8:30 PM Central / 6:30 PM Pacific
The deadline for submitting screenshots is: 11 PM Eastern / 10 PM Central / 8 PM Pacific
The Cimeroran costume contest begins at: 10 PM Eastern / 9 PM Central / 7 PM Pacific
Winners of the Iron-Man ITF Race will be announced at: Midnight Eastern / 11 PM Central / 9 PM Pacific
If one or more team(s) are waiting to form near the end of the race window we will assist until the queue is cleared, but no new teams will be added to the queue after the 9:30 PM cut-off. This means there is a possibility that a team or two may begin after the listed end of the race window. The deadline for screenshots will remain the same, no matter when your team started.
Where:
The race will take place in Cimerora. Players who are interested in participating should meet with one of the P.E.R.C. Representatives who will be waiting near the TF contact, Imperious. To enter Cimerora, your character will need to have Midnighter Club access. The costume contest will also take place in Cimerora!
Who May Participate:
Characters of any alignment who are level 35+ and able to enter Cimerora. Please note that, since this is a race, level 50 characters will usually stand a better chance at winning and are therefore highly recommended.
Players are allowed to organize their own team of 3 in advance of the event. That means yes, you and your friends can plan to come as a group! Duos and individuals will be matched with other available players present for the event by the P.E.R.C. staff, so even if you show up solo you have a chance to compete!
Prizes:
To be eligible for prizes, your team will need to e-mail a screenshot* to: RTechCoH@GMail.com (see below for more details).
The race prizes are as follows:
3rd Place Team: 200 Million Inf. Per Player
2nd Place Team: 500 Million Inf. Per Player
1st Place Team: 1 Billion Inf. Per Player
Team With Fewest Deaths: 500 Million Inf. Per Player
The costume contest prizes are:
3rd Place: 200 Million Inf.
2nd Place: 300 Million Inf.
1st Place: 500 Million Inf.
Rules & Additional Info:
1) Teams competing in the race will be limited to three (3) players maximum.
Since the TF requires 6 players to start, P.E.R.C. Reps and assistants will be present to provide enough members for a team to begin the race.
2) You must have a member of P.E.R.C. or an approved assistant on your team, as a temporary anchor.
We will only accept entries from teams that had an approved player there to verify a clean start. They will remain long enough for the TF to begin and then drop once the other anchors have quit the team.
3) You can run the TF as many times as you want during the event window.
You are allowed to switch characters and teams between races. Only a team's (and individual's) best time will be considered for judging. For example: John Doe is on the team that takes 3rd place, then switches to another team that wins 1st place. John Doe will receive 1 billion inf., not 1.2 billion. The prize for fewest deaths is exempt from this. A team can both place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd and still win that as well.
4) Outside buffing is not allowed.
This means that players caught using secondary accounts or friends to buff their characters before entering a mission may be docked on time or disqualified, at the judges' descretion.
5) The team is allowed to use temporary powers (including powers like Shivans, Nukes and Vanguard HVAS).
We will be doing our best to make sure that everyone who is interested in participating in the race and present during the time window is able to compete, but due to the nature of the event we cannot guarantee anyone a spot on a team. The event coordinators will attempt to create balanced teams with a mix of archetypes, pulled from the available pool of interested players.
Screenshots
Times will be judged using screenshots.
One player from the team will need to take a screenshot that shows the team window, the XP/Menu bar (the portion that shows TF challenge settings) and the TF completion window with the final time and number of deaths. You don't need to rename or resize the screenshot; just pull it out of your CoH Screenshots folder and attach it to an e-mail.
To qualify for any of the race prizes, your team must submit a screenshot to: RTechCoH@GMail.com
Each team should discuss who will be taking and submitting the screenshot, as this will not be done by the judges and assistants. Make sure it includes all the information required!
The command to make the UI visible in screenshots is: /screenshotui 1
The command to disable the UI afterwards is: /screenshotui 0
Special note: The TF window will only accurately track deaths if a Death Counter is selected as part of the TF challenge settings when the TF is formed.
This is why we need a screenshot showing the XP/Menu bar & TF challenge settings: To ensure accurate tracking!
If you have any questions about this or other event rules/details, please feel free to contact a Rep on the forums or in-game at @R-Tech @HercuIes or @Head-Cutter -
I made the jump to CIT and Titan Sentinel a while back and love both of them. It feels like what the "City Vault" (remember that?) was supposed to be. It's been easy to set up, use, and very helpful for badge tracking and other info. There's even an option to export your character's build from the game to a Mid's data chunk.
Err, so yeah. Another vote for Titan Sentinel/City Info Terminal. -
Several years ago I was very active in zone and SG arena PvP matches, so that's where most of my experience lies. That being said...
My absolute favorite moment in PvP happened in Bloody Bay, pre-issue 13. Myself and a half dozen SG mates, all heroes, fought our way to the villain's base. For an hour we stood firm and controlled entry/exit at the front door while villains swarmed all around us. It was sort of like a cross between capture the flag and tower defense, in a way. It was us, back to back, fighting waves of other players and desperately holding our ground as other heroes and villains in the zone realized what was happening and came to join/fight us. At the height of the siege there must have been 20-30 people engaged in that battle, either off to the side fighting in smaller groups or front and center with us. I can hardly remember a time when I had more fun, in any game, than on that night. I was playing an Ice Controller at the time... One of the early versions of my main, in fact.
I also fondly remember being part of roving teams in Siren's Call, zigging and zagging to dodge assassination attempts while hunting down the villain that struck down our Defender. Darting around and up tall buildings in hot pursuit was always such a rush! -
There are several places it could probably go, but I think you're going to get the most, high quality responses here or on the server-specific forum. I've seen SGs for sale in the for fun --> general chat and SG recruitment forums also.
Make sure to mention the SG name, server, current total prestige (not just banked) and important items unlocked. You already did a lot of that here, so you're off to a very good start.
Also, you might want to set a starting price unless you're really not worried about how much you get for it. A base with that much prestige on a server like Freedom, depending on the time, could be worth a fair bit. The influence : prestige conversion rate is 500:1, though, to be fair, not many people are going to be willing to shell out that kind of cash. It's a good reference point for what the SG base (based solely on banked 'stige) is "worth" though. -
Works for me. I'll keep an eye on the thread.
-
I'm still waking up, but I have to admit that seeing Avatea contact the BBC and ask about better communication options with them is rekindling my hopes. And really, I think there are things that could be done that would benefit base builders and SG members alike.
Wentworth/Black Market terminals, tailors, difficulty adjusters, trainers, and some target dummies like the ones in the RWZ Vanguard HQ immediately spring to mind. Allowing various task/strike forces to be formed at the mission computer, in addition to potentially giving it an AE interface option would also be awesome. All of those are available elsewhere in the game, but having them all in one SG base would be convenient. Instead of trying to run from, say, Mercy Island to Cap au Diable to make costume changes as a lowbie, you could swing by your SG base and even grab some inspirations for your next mission while you're there. And with those targeting dummies you could even test out your power customization without hoofing it in search of some street mob to blast.
We need more things that serve to bring SG members together (or benefit the solo/small SG), and a well-equipped base with new amenities (and even some new decorative bits!) could very well assist with that. -
Quote:They are indeed aware of that concern, and already have something planned for Issue 20. From the February Producer's Letter:
I am beginning to wonder if the DEVS realize we have a LOT of players with multiple 50s and not every one of them has all the shards they need.
Quote:For our more casual players, we have added an option for you to continue to build your way up the Incarnate Tree by collecting Incarnate Shards without doing any Incarnate Trials--you will even get Incarnate Shards when you are exemplared down. -
First of all, welcome to CoH and Infinity!
I have a few characters in the level 30ish range that I wouldn't mind teaming up with. My two picks would be an Ice/Cold Corruptor (hero alignment) or a Force Field/Sonic Defender (also a hero). If we did something red-side then I have a vigilante Dominator that I'd be happy to exemplar with.
Best times for me are anything but Wednesday and Sunday evenings. It's generally easier for me to make afternoon/evening times, but with enough notice I can swing stuff earlier in the day.
You might also want to broadcast this info in some of the Infinity global channels. If you're not already in them, try checking out AE Anonymous (general teaming and events), Inf Badge Seeker and Infinity Badges 2.0 (both badge related, as the names imply), or even Infinity TFs (if you plan to run some task forces with the team). -
Very cool.
Thanks for the heads up, NM.

New update has been posted: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...95#post3498795
Apex will be the first WST after Sister Psyche/Silver Mantis. -
After the Mothership Raid on 2/20 Hercules (organizer), Head-Cutter and myself (judges) ran a costume contest in Pocket D. Vanguard-themed and open to all entrants with at least one piece of Vanguard armor, we had a nice turn-out and a lot of fun. Originally we planned to pick 3 winners, but with so many great looks on display we added prizes for 4th and 5th place, plus a special bonus for the best Vanguard soldier recreation. Below are the winners!

1st: Zanzannin
2nd: Harloch
3rd: Psychotic Break
4th: Captain Bash
5th: Snow Charger
Best Recreation: Praecantator
Many thanks to all the people who showed up and to my fellow P.E.R.C. reps! -
It probably wont be in place in time for the Sister Psyche/Silver Mantis WST, but in the future there will be reason (besides credit towards the WST assist badges, inf. and merits) to bring a 50 on a low-level TF more than once:

Not that you can't get shards elsewhere, but that news made me a very happy camper. -
My personal favorite is my Ice^3 Dom, but Mind and Earth also really shine in group play. Mind/Fire has been used to do some incredible things, but I've also seen Electric/Earth decimate paper/scanner missions set for a full team. Given, that was with heavy IO investment and a skilled player, but it was a sight to behold.
Still, yeah, I'd say Mind/ or Earth/ (or Ice/)would be my top picks for team-centric play due to the wide variety of control they bring to the battlefield.

Sadly, all the Patrons have to be defeated before Lord Recluse will spawn. Besides normal minions the only other thing on the map at that point will be towers or the Flier.

Don't worry KW, we all had to learn the ropes when we were new. It's the way it goes.
If you missed out on that mission, I think Ganymede will give it out again if you want to retry it. Until you get the hang of team building you can also keep an eye out for other people running the mission and ask if they need a hand. Then you can take turns with your missions.
On the plus side, if you don't get around to finishing it this time there is still a while left on the event, and it will be back next year too. The badges from the special missions will be there waiting for you when you're ready. -
Doh! Looks like I might have missed you. If you still need a hand with this just send me a tell (That's: /tell @R-Tech, Your Message Here) I'll be online for a while now that I'm back.
Also, you can type /search to bring up a window to see who is around on the server at that moment. You can talk to anyone in the same area by using /b Your Message Here or send them a private tell with /tell PlayerName, Your Message Here, which it sounds like you got right. You'll know if the message went through because it will show up in your chat tab in bright yellow letters. If you're not sure if a given player is a Villain, Rogue, or Loyalist alignment then you can ask. You only need one person to assist you with the mission, and all they will need to do is click on a chest at the end of said mission.
If there's anything else we can do to help just let us know. In the mean time I'll try finding you in-game. Best of luck out there!
P.S.: Checking to make sure that you can read messages from players that are of an opposing alignment is a very good suggestion. You can find the option by clicking "Menu" on your health/XP bar, then clicking on "Options" and scrolling down while on the "General" tab until you find the "Chat" settings. It should say "Show Villain ____ Chat" and be set to "Enabled". There are three options, make sure they're all on. -
Do you still need help with this, KW? If someone hasn't already, I have a Loyalist I can use to help you.
-
I'll also vouch for Fulmen's trustworthiness. I've done business with him on two separate occasions (as part of his prestige<-->inf. matching), and have never been let down.
-
I am 100% on board for a Melee/Support or Support/Melee combo. I'd also go for Support/Assault, ala a Dominator with buffs/debuffs instead of control.
Re: ATs and power combos that solo AVs / Tankmages
The thing is I'm pretty sure that, at this point, most all ATs have soloed AVs and some have soloed GMs. The only ones I'm not certain have done it are Stalkers and HEATs, and I think even those two are capable of it (if they haven't already done it). Of those ATs, several of them can do it with just about any combo of power sets available to them, but most of them require heavy investment or some level of skill to do this. I guess that helps level the playing field in a way... If we're all capable of being tankmages... "When everyone's super, then no one will be."
What that means is, so long as their performance wasn't wildly out of proportion with the other ATs, then we probably wouldn't see any new AT eclipse the rest. More than being overpowered, I'm almost worried that any new AT would end up feeling like a jack of all trades, master of none, without the "often better than a master of one" line. Almost worried. And that's only because I am very much the sort who likes fulfilling a role or fitting into a niche. Looking at the VEATs, those fears are eased. -
I'm not sure that I could get behind the particular power mixes of the ATs listed, but I do love brainstorming. If we were to see a new AT, the combo at the top of my list would have to be a Melee Damage / Buff-Debuff combo. So, for example, I could do Katana/Kinetics or Martial Arts/Dark Miasma. The two could also be swapped, primary and secondary-wise. I've been wanting the ability to make a mix like that forever. Maybe even a Manipulation (Dominator Secondary) / Buff-Debuff combo.
