Quote:Right, and the humans were basicly wanting to use the aliens and the seed ship to escape on the deal that they would later help the aliens to defeat the bad ships, when they basicly wanted to only use the seed ship to dial earth.No. The aliens were supposed to ba taking the Destiny to a relatively safe spot to finish repairs to their FTL. Instead they took them directly to the enemy fleet. This wasn't an "OOPS! We accidentally stumbled across a patrol" They dropped out of FTL right in front of the enemy flagship.
The aliens dropping off the destiny at the battle with no FTL doesnt mean the destiny is destroyed it means it cant escape to renig on the battle plan. They still had shields, guns, and standard manuevering FTL only would have helped them escape. To the aliens it was about defeating the enemy at all cost to return home. The same thing the Destiny wanted out of the aliens.
Im not pointing out one is better or wrose, but frankly neither can claim innocence in its intentions to screw over the other. Its just the aliens screwed over destiny before destiny had a chance to screw them over. -
So i got a new computer yesterday, and of course it comes loaded with norton, which i know is a total cluster of a system hog.
I had been using AVG for years but it seems like every new version gets closer and closer to being the hog norton and macafee have been. So just wondering is there a good reliable free antivirus out there that all the cool kids are using? -
Quote:I dont think that is true. Honestly the cars that get features are probably well beyond the price level of the vast majority of those that are watching the show to begin with. So honestly i dont see the need for really detailed reviews. Heck i doubt that americans would listen to them anyway. If the car companies have a say on the reviews this show is doomed to failure. It's the strength of the show as a motoring show and if the presenters have to be all namby pamby about it no matter how good the chemistry it won't work.
Not just that but we have seen successful shows that center on man-centric fun. If they made the show more about just being entertaining in a motor-trendie kinda way i think they could make a go of it, atleast for a couple season when you consider that were talking history channel. -
I think this is an obvious case of a cloned show just trying to hit american audiences in the right way.
It was rocky, but i think it also had some fun to it. I think the helicopter case in the first episode was kinda fun. I mean who seriously would not want a kick *** car and to have an entire town to themselves to get chased through.
In the second episode, that aired tonight, they did a race down a hill between a subaru and two skiers. Again was quite fun to watch.
As far as sponsorships i guess we will see. But figuring that in the first episode the reviews were about lamborginis and the second was about austin martins, i dont see them at the moment reviewing cars that are really going to rely on a 30 second ad to sell them anyway.
Well i guess were going to see how it goes. I will say right now im not overly impressed with the chemestry between the hosts. Its like they picked up a funny guy, a country funny guy and a car driver that really have nothing in common. And alot of the commontary at this point seems to be on the level of "OMG that was a kick *** ride." rather then real point by point reviews of the cars. -
It wasnt a horrible episode as far as a filler episode goes, and did well to i guess fix some issues.
Issue 1 the shuttle. Sure there was other ways to do it, but atleast now its done and we can move on.
Issue 2, i really think that we all knew that we had not heard the last of those people. Dropped on a manufactured planet with a mystic statue etc. Im pretty sure we had to know it was gonna be revisited. So now it has been, without totally throwing off the structure of the ship beyond that episode and leaving just a hint of mystery as to what is going on to fit into the overall story i would assume they are trying to establish. I dont think it was ment as much to bash religion as much as it will serve to allow some of the real science types have doubts to their own beliefs. Especially with the keno feed at the end of the show.
I also think the episode did a good job of expanding what we know about greer. Military hard *** yes, but its nice to see a human side to him. To show that no matter what he is asked to do he will follow orders, but that he needs to justify it as the right thing to himself and that he has that understanding from others.
Overall i have spent 60 worse minutes watching this show. Here is hoping next week is a valid pay-off for giving the show another chance to fix itself. -
Quote:I know that, but in the book, by the time they get to shell cottage harry already knows the history from Skitters book and knows that Dumbledore was friends as a boy with the dark wizard he later fights and takes the wand from. Its only really important i think because first it explains why dumbledore has the wand, but what we should see at the begining of the second movie is harry talking to olivander and the goblin. He chooses to talk to the goblin first even the while knowing that Voldemort is closing in on the wand because he had come to the realization that he himself wasnt to have the wand that it wasnt in the plan.Well remember that they still have a lot of time to work that into the next movie and really bring Harry down to that confrontation with Voldemort in the woods. They cast Dumbledore's brother, so I would imagine they delve into that at least a little in the next movie.
Im sure as in many parts of the movie they will find ways of explaining this off, i just liked the idea that harry was finally starting to think, and plan and scheme a bit rather then just always running off to the next fight as he does through most of the movies and books. The character was always very reactionary and this was one of the first times that he actually sat back and looked at the bigger picture.
I think we need to seriously keep in mind that there is a TON of stuff left to fill in the second movie. They still have to break into gringotts, sneak into hogworts, find the daidem, the fight in the room of requirement, snapes death and his entire memory sequence, then the battle really starts and we have to deal with harrys death, and the entire part with dumbledore and the final confrontations. So when you figure that they seem reluctant to go much beyond 2.5 hours with these movies, i think alot of the little bits of character development are seeming to get left by the way side. -
Oh just to further IMO show how weak and truely uninspired a crew of writers the show has, but hasnt this whole angle be done to death before? As in years ago with the "Mutant Registration Act" in x-men that had Magneto fighting against it with terrorism and charles fighting against it with heroes. Then recycled to the xmen movie, and then redone again pretty much in civil war cross overs......
Its just really guys? Super Powers needing to register with the government......and no one in that room went" you know marvel has been doing this story line for decades." -
I went back and browsed the book a bit just to see where things happened and stuff. One thing that i kinda thought seemed out of place, was that by this point in the story, having gotten to shell collage, the narative of dumbledore in the book is much more advance. Which i think from the pov of anyone having only followed the movies is going to hurt a bit. For instance in the movie they dont really explain who the dark wizard is that harry sees stealing the wand and then how it comes to be with dumbledore. So really at this point they left out pretty much ALL of the dumbledore as a boy, his father dying, his sister being sick, and dumbledores misspent beliefs about magic superiority which eventually leads to the fight with Aberforth and his sisters death. Which in HBP they do infact elude to in that the big D is following the lines from the book asking someone to "leave they alone" or something like that.
I really now only bring it up because frankly that is a big part of thebook to just be completely missing. It really does put harry on a path of doubting Dumbledore and his judgement but also explains how we know where the wand was and why it came to be with Dumbledore but also really does then kinda lend itself to the final scene where they talked about a wand's alligences being won or lost as to why the death stick isnt the weapon it should be for V. -
Quote:Actually there is no mention in the movie of a curse or jinx being placed on his name. infact in the book that was how they eventually found them. V knew that as Dumbledore that Harry was not afraid to use his name so he cursed it to trace to the speaker. Ron found this out during his time away from them, which in the book seemed much longer then the movie played it out to be. And then if i recall harry says the name accidently which brings the snatchers to them that they happened to come acrossed in the woods.Just went to see this with my family yesterday. Great movie. I haven't read any of the books beyond the second one, so I wouldn't know what they left out but I think the movie was well paced. Favorite part was when Dobby showed up with Creature. Elves seem crazy powerful and I'm wondering why more of them don't show up to try and fight Voldamort.
Does Voldamort show up when anyone says his name? I kinda figured, but my folks (who don't follow the movies or books that well) were wondering how he kept finding them so quickly. I tried to explain to them that's why most people just refer to him as 'you know who'. Harry especially, considering he was never afraid to say the name in the first couple of movies.
I also got to see the Green Lantern trailer on the big screen and I agree: It certainly looks better. Or, at the very least, you can't see the flaws as much. My Dad's been a fan of GL for a *long* time and he nearly jumped out of his seat when he saw it. -
Im seriously getting tired of kryptonite showing up in every script, either by accident or planned.
Last week it was like luck of the draw that they infused their weapons with it, this week the military knew the blurrs weakness even though they apparently have no clue who he was, that he was an alien and that in most cases in the show exposure to that particular rock was responsible for GIVING people powers rather then being a weakness.
And apparently now Darksied is going to be some mystic smoke that feeds off the fear and weakness and such in others. Wasnt that an episode of the original star trek?
But seriously i think the writers cant come up with any other excuse for crappy inexpensive effects so they just basicly use the green rock to limit the need for them. I guess it cost alot of the budget to tint every scene in either blue, or orange etc. -
Quote:Another thing i realized wasnt in there, and honestly i kinda miss it now that i know its not, is that they never let Tonks announce her pregnancy. That in and of itself is not that bad for this story, other then it makes the battle a bit less since those two are one reason why it was sad, but also i really liked the scene in the book where Harry lets go on Lupin when he wants to join them about abandoning his family. You actually hear them talking about Australia (which is where she sends them in the book), but like the book, she also makes them forget they had a daughter. She references that again later in the forest where she and her parents used to go camping.

I really liked that scene in the book because it kinda i felt added to the idea that somehow Harry knows all along that the finale will require him to sacrifice himself and he wants as few people in the way to talk him out of it as possible.
But also the kid IMO is one of the best possibilities for any kinda of new books. I think if they gave the kid kinda a half werewolf/half wizard kinda thing it would be an intresting new set of books. -
Quote:Oh i forgot about that first scene. That was one notable departure from the book that in the book didnt she send her parents to another country under thinking they were someone else rather then erasing herself.Just got back from it, and I enjoyed it a lot. Managed to make the 'traipsing up and down the countryside' interesting and dramatic enough that it works, and nice to see the Unholy Threesome starting to really push their acting talents. (I'd gotten so used to seeing Rupert Grint as the comedic value of the three that watching him do bitter, angry, and despairing was almost astounding.)
Personally, though, I loved the very beginning scenes with Harry, Ron, and Hermione (hers in particular - not even five minutes in and I wanted to cry!). Those couple of minutes just so beautifully set up everything they're going to have to leave behind.

Well i dont see one and search didnt find one so here we go.....Oh and im sure im gonna drop some spoilers.
Went and saw it last night at the midnight show. First off Green Lantern looks slightly less cheesy on the big screen thankfully. And surprisingly the Cowboys and Aliens trailer actually had the audience laughing. I think Fav might want to release a trailer that is a bit more story driven soon so it doesnt come off as gimicky since its not as well known of a comic as Ironman.
On to harry. Honestly about what i expected. It was talky in parts, but had enough action to keep things moving. Had about the cuts i would expect to things like the planning of the raid on the ministry, or the time at the hallows before the wedding. The only thing in the begining that really felt left out was that he hadnt officially broken up with Jennie, so that is left hanging kinda.
Almost every scene is really directly represented in most ways as it was in the book, or atleast attempted to stay faithful to the spirit of the scene in the book. The effects were well done, and the scene where the locket opens is really impressive looking to me. Its also the scene with the semi-nude harry and herminoe which was talked about. And goes about how you figure, well placed arms ect. Infact that scene IMO was the one scene that looked most CGId almost like they didnt want skin and stuff to be to realistic, especially compared to doby who looks 100 times better in this movie then in the previous one.
I would say that those that havent read the books are going to miss out on some things, not important things mind you but like since this is the first time we see Bill for example, he is already a werewolf and they refference to that, but you wouldnt know the history behind it.
The only question for me that still remains is that other then the locket there is absolutely no mention of the other horcruxes. Infact they basicly say they dont know what they are or where they would be. So that should be intresting to see worked out in july since honestly even going into this movie was one of my biggest questions. That having concentrated so much on the teen/love aspect in HBP they basicly left out all the lessons that taught harry what items he would be looking for.
Overall definately worth the money, and a very nice installment to the film franchise and it on the right track to the final movie. -
It might make it seemingly easier, maybe in so much that we dont have to worry as much about getting a bigger boost from a purple set or a LOTG, however one thing to keep in mind is that in most cases the recharge boost from a IO set hits around having 5 peices slotted. So in that manner honestly i dont see alot of options opening up with this slot usage.
I mean it will be nice, and it is a nice boost im sure and maybe will give me a few more seconds of overlap to click again, but i dont see that slotting as really requiring me to change anything in any of my builds as a result of it. -
Quote:My CW affiliate has an HD station on the comcast line up. Maybe its not a CW issue and a issue as to who pays for CW programing in your area.Eeee...Granny and the Furies! Curse you CW for not having an HD station! Watching SD on a HD tv is the pits!
As for the episode, not terrible, however the "Hints" at clarks future greatness are already starting to wear thin. They have gotten alot more blatent this year so more then ever how about showing some of that greatness in a nice super powered fight where the enemies dont have to have kryptonite infused weapons to make a difference.
I mean i know the furries werent superman quality power houses, but it gets old when every enemy clark has to deal with just by chance seems to be ready for him. Especially when he isnt superman yet, and hasnt had the press or history that would make kryptonite a even sorta known weakness for him.
Not only that but the sheer amount of kryptonite floating around in the smallville universe i am begining to find it hard to believe that clark could ever really become the superman we know and love. I mean at this point I expect a smallville version of a starbucks coffee mug infused with kryptonite to keep your java nice and warm on the way to work. -
The only thing that concerns me right now is anyone from the cast of Gossip Girl being in the movie, and that in the daylight/normal room shots i think the mask and costume came off a bit to "Green" but other shots looked fine.

Quote:So you only have a problem with this dude because he is basicly the same race as maul. But its not a problem when they introduce the mandalorians, or baby fett, or expand on any of the other history-less characters in the star wars universe? Frankly i welcome the idea of expanding on maul's race. IMO clone wars as been and continues to be a very good, quality star wars series, and im not willing to jump onto the *****-festing bandwagon simply because they are trying to generate appeal for the show off of past popularity. The more that watch the show, the more chance that cartoon network will continue to want to pay for what im sure is an expensive to produce series for them. So i give them there few episodes a year that deal with things like mandalorians, boba fett, and now maul becuase the rest of the 90 percent of the episodes for the season are usually high enough quality i can forgive the blatent attempts are garnering popularity off popular characters.
Darth Maul was a Zabrak born on Iridonia, the home planet of his species. His master, Darth Sidious, took him from his family at a very early age, to begin his training to the dark side of the force.
A younger Darth Maul training under Darth Sidious.
Maul began training with Sidious at an early age, who indoctrinated in him the ways of the dark side of the Force. During his training, any show of fear was severely punished by Sidious, and any hint of mercy rewarded with cruelty.
By the time Maul was an adolescent, his master had already forged him into a weapon of pure hatred. Marked by Sith tattoos that covered his entire muscular body, the young Zabrak warrior was now the ultimate tool of the dark side. He had a sense of honor, however, respecting those he deemed worthy opponents and granting them quick deaths. Despite a traumatic childhood, Maul had filial feelings toward his master, and never once contemplated killing him— until his final test

We'll see how much of that gets retconned for the Clone Wars tv show. But for right now that is Darth Maul's history.
I have no problems with Dooku picking someone as his apprentice that relies on sheer strength. Every Sith Lord has their own personal preferences and reasons for picking their apprentice.
My problem lies in the fact that the whole basis of this character being created is because they are trying to make a Darth Maul II (with a terrrrrible name), rather than creating something different or just using a character that's already been established. In the trailers they even say "Hey, you remember Darth Maul? I'm gonna get you one of the people from his race (who might even be related to him) to be your official apprentice." But we'll just paint his face yellow instead of red, that way he'll be exactly like Maul... but different (with a terrrrrible name).
Clone wars in that way i think is the polar opposite of say a show like Smallville. Where they advertise a popular character or theme like using the Justice Society or Legion and that one or two episodes isnt bad and the rest of the series is total crapfest. With clone wars these maul episode will probably be decent and fit into an over all good show. -
Quote:OR did Sidious' trainning produce the skilled sith warrior that we saw on screen. We never saw maul previously to those appearances and it was pretty apparent he was atleast in an advance stage of combat trainning by that point. After watching that one thing came to mind
"....Or Dooku could've taken Ventress as his apprentice?"
Having Dooku pick a double-lightsaber wielding, Zabrak apprentice seems more like a Lucas cash-in attempt than anything. It's also an insulting one to Darth Maul. While i think he's the most overhyped Sith, it's pretty sad that they are trying to say a guy being described as a 'reckless, impulsive animal' is the next Darth Maul. Maul looked fearsome but he wasn't a brainless brute, in order to survive Palpatine's training he'd have to have brains, brawn and a strong force affinity.
It's like they dont even pay attention to their own canon.
The release says that we are going to see for the first time the processes that go into training a sith. Nothing indicates that Maul wasnt originally just as brutish as this dude was. Infact i would guess that would be part of the reason a sith would pick someone would be based on sheer strenght and ruthlessness even before being trained to harness it for the dark side. -
Well kinda game related i guess. Just not this game
My 8 year old was taking her turn playing Soul Calibure 4 on my 360. My 10 year old was of course right next to her waiting for his turn and was being bossy with her. My wife and I are up stairs half listening half talking about grown up stuff when we hear "NO F'ING DUH JOEY!!!!" just be screamed at the top of her lungs from down stairs. Only she didnt say "F'ing" she said the word.
After the split second of pure joy i get to experience before i have to become parental, we respond "what did you say?" her excuse was that Joey wouldnt leave her alone to play and therefore he made her say it. -
Quote:No other way around. It was billed originally as a merger between Techtv owned by Vulcan and G4 partially owned by comcast. They co-branded for a bit as G4TechTV, but eventually g4 and comcast basicly fired all but about 80 people from techtv in san francisico and told them if they wanted to move to LA they could keep their jobs.funny thing is, from what i have read on the subject, techtv basically absorbed g4 , then became g4 because tech paul allen wanted out of the biz and g4 employees were paid less, so they got to screw-over the employees.
Basicly every good show that techtv had was then ruined except xplay which is likely the only reason g4 wanted to shut down the network anyway, because it was so much better then the drivil that g4 produced as game related programing. -
Really? They are on comcast ondemand within 24 hours. However that maybe it. Perhaps comcast in pushing their xfinity demand and online video is getting carriers to delay online posting until they run on thier services for a bit. I know im seeing alot of pay per view stuff from comcast advertising that its availible like 28 days before redbox etc.
-
This i think has been long time coming. Ever since G4 dismantled techtv they basicly took out the competition and then started doing just about everything but gaming television.
I can understand to a point off subject shows like Ninja Warrior, but cops and cheaters are nothing to their general demographic. The basicly i dont think even have a solid nightly lineup of gaming related shows anylonger.
If they were smart i say you find a way to bring back Leo Laport and his group to make a few shows a week about new tech, modding gaming ect. and atleast get a block of shows that will have general appeal to your base, and save the crap like cops for 2am. -
Was an ok episode. I guess this was their attempt at a halloween story line, but frankly it was kinda terrible. Now if they just wanted to say that there were deposites of blueK around from the metor and that clark was going in and out of having powers as a result i wouldnt have minded so much, but to have the people infected with it from the water, i didnt care for.
Be intresting to see if they really have plans for Lex this year, or are they just attempting to bring him back from the dead in order to make sure that his iconic villian is not dead at the end of the last season.
I know it was ment as comedy but whenever smallville gets clark getting all romantic with someone i always think of that old bit about blowing a hole through lois with his love skills. It would have been kinda fun to have clark have kept a bit of the blue stuff and maybe made a ring or something out of it that he had to wear when they were getting down.
Overall an easily skippable episode though. -
Quote:I would say there is a good chance you will be fine. with i19 your only going to lose the recovery rate from the slotting and still get the benefit from the base power. One suggestion would be copy to test, if youhave the early beta access to issue 19 and respec and try it out. But once you achieve perma dom figure that bar is filling again every 90 seconds. Also figure that as you IO set up the secondary (which is your biggest end drain with earth) that those sets have slotted into them end reduction which you might not currently be taking advantage of. Even 20 percent or so reduction acrossed an entire sets IOs is a big help. Plus recovery bonuses from the sets themselves. Here's a question that works for now and i19...
For those with IOed builds, how goes the END use? Do you need a slotted up Stamina?
My Fire/Earth Dom is not quite at Perma Dom yet (close), so still has end problems (I can eat through END fast), but when the builds done, I'd like to know if I can go with 1 slotted Stamina to free up some slots.
This is actually something im considering with my mind/psi dom. I could already probably live without stamina with the psi powers, however between inherent stamina and that clicky recovery power in the psi pool i think i will be more then fine with no slotting on stamina.
If nothing else if youjust have common IOs in stamina now, just pull 2 of them out and see how it goes, It only costs you the cost of replacing the IOs if it doesnt work well for you. But that should mirror the end use post i19 and then figure that if you know that works you just have to start planning on what to do with the power choices and slots when it goes live. -
IMO it greatly depends on the way in which a show like Glee handles the merchandise, so to speak.
As was linked to other shows have done covers of RHPS, like Drew Carey. Why didnt they get alot of flack? Well first off i dont recall a 3 week media blitz saying they were doing it to get all the fans all wild about it. So obviously part of your blame here is the marketing arm for Glee. They obviously know they are dealing with music that has a big fan base, which is why whenever they do a madonna, gaga or whatever show they make sure to advertise the hell out of it.
Now if Glee comes out and just tries to do a 1 hour version of the RHPS then honestly i would scream foul also. Im not a huge fan of the original or anything. Frankly i saw it once on a midnight movie, however my mother thinks i saw it about 40 times because it became an easy excuse to be able to miss curfew and be out until 3am.
However that being said, i think part of the problem is Glee has its own fan base. And that younger fan base that might not have seen RHPS maybe even ever, IS going to scream about how great THEIR show is, and likely few will set out to experience the original work.
I personally dont care. My only concern is context, if Glee wants to do a parody/homage to RHPS i think thats fine overall. If the point is to userp the RHPS and make it associative with Glee for younger fans, then i kinda see the point of the fanbio rage. Its kinda like i love the Robot Chicken star wars specials. However if they ever just tried to make a remake of star wars, i would hate them for it. I love the parody, i love the comedy, i dont need a remake.
