So they've turned writing duty over to a room full of monkeys with typewriters?

I need a wife like Mera.

Mera was pretty smokin'.

It kind of sucked to see them make Deathstroke an old man, though. Also, they kinda just glossed over his and Clark's escape from that place. And it looks like it's going to be really easy for them to get lost in all the arcs they've got going, what with Darkseid and the registration act and the Suicide Squad and the return of Luthor and Clark finally becoming Superman.

What do you mean 'turned over'? It's been that room full of monkeys since the pilot.

No, these monkeys are worse than the old monkeys. This episode was so badly written it had me longing for the freak of the week and she who must not be named.

Except Deathstroke kinda is an old man.

Deathstroke DCU toy. There's stuff out there showing him unmasked from the comics, but this is the closest thing I could find (quickly) to be "official" depiction of him.

Seriously. Dude's had at least 3 adult (or teenage, in Rose's case) kids, and he wasn't exactly a spring chicken when he got started fatherin'.

He's old enough that he was in 'Nam, sure, but he's one of those characters that's old but shouldn't look as old as a normal person would at that age. Also, it makes it harder to root for the good guys when they're beating on an old dude.

Slade served in Korea so he'd be 70ish now but he's also got one of those magical healing factors that retards the aging process so he shouldn't look his age. (And yes I know his healing factor comes from a scientific experiment and isn't actually magical.)

This is, probably, a pre-regenerative/enhanced, Slade. Due to the fact that prior to the kaboomey, he still had both eyes. The end scene showed him missing an eye. It was probably also the point where he got supersoldierized.

Which would make no sense. If you're going to create a supersoldier you don't start with an old man. Of course little else made sense in this episode so why would they start with Slade.

He is, however, a seasoned military veteran who now has plausible deniability for his death. Making him a good fit for the Suicide Squad and a test subject for a regenerative/age-reducing new drug. After all, if your drug can work on a person of that age, think what it can do for someone in their prime.

pretty much Villain Registration act kicks in, Olly volunteers to register in order to convince people everythings not so bad with the capes. Aquaman and hot new wife Mera bust a facility thats being used to hold super prisoners guantanomo style, and clark convinces him to cool off. Clark lets Lois in on Watch tower, Nutshell pretty much.

They probably would have been better going with the Eiling/General angle, although they probably didn't want to set themselves up to be preemptively embarrassed through comparisons with their take on the character/arc and that of JLU. Instead, they took the low road and went with senior citizen Slade.

Except that the Suicide Squad is on the other side. Given that they're the ones committing terrorist acts in opposition to the VRA I don't think they'll be trying to recruit Slade any time soon. And why would you use someone that age as a test subject for the drug when you could use it on someone in their physical prime instead? Slade is a "seasoned military veteran" who's been sitting behind a desk for decades while the military is full of men in their prime with recent combat experience from the Gulf War, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Slade, as presented on Smallville, is far from an optimal test subject for any type of supersoldier experiment.

Decent episode.. good forward momentum.

the problem with Slade is not that he is old, it's that he's a fat old dude. Slade is supposed to be fit always...

Also you guys are a bit mistaken with what happened to Slade... His powers are not a result of a super-soldier experiment. They are the result of an experimental surgery that had a reaction with his biology creating his super soldier like abilities. They have since tried to replicate the results, but have so far but unsuccessful.

So basically they didn't go out of their way to give him powers, they just happened to, and they don't know how it happened.
