  2. So I just got a message on my Twitter account, saying they were testing 'a new client'. My Twitter client shows the source of incoming tweets, and the source of the above tweet was 'Champions Online'.

Which lead me to start thinking. Twitter uses @{AccountName} to message someone. CoX uses @{GlobalName} to globally contact someone in game. Assuming it were possible to interface with the chat servers from an external client (Lets call it Twitter, could be AIM, or what ever new pops up) would you want such access to the chat commands of this game?

It'd be nice to follow some of the discussion in my various sg channels while off line. It would also be nice to have a way to talk without having to log in, but that's just me. Curious if there's others who'd be interested in this for CoX.

    Huh... Interesting question....

If you haven't been keyed to the Midnighter Club can you mish-port cross-zone into Cimerora, skipping the key-quest?

    -Rachel-

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would wager so. The only gate to Cimerora used to be having access to the Midnight Club. The only access to the Midnight Club used to be said key quest.

I'd think, if your character doesn't have access to Cim, it'd be possible to team with someone who has a Cim mission, port to mission there, run around in the past like the silly rules breaking Chrononaught you are, including getting the 'phone number' of repeatable mission guy, then leave.

Only problem being you are on a 1-2 hour timer for gaining entry to the zone.

Also of note people couldn't use this to just do the ITF, as there'd be no mission to select until the TF starts, and all people need to be in the zone to start.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Last time I tested it with a friend was through Ouroboros. I started a Daedalus flashback and ported to Cimerora. My friend (who didn't have the badge) then tried to teleport to the contact, which he was able to do. Within 1-2 secs of zoning into Cimerora, however, he was ported back out to Ouroboros.

Haven't tried it recently with the mission teleporter, but I don't see why that would work.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Very interesting, mayhaps the devs were trying to proactively nip all the weird "I can teleport here" bugs. Or they had a suite of test cases from all the various ways one could 'break' the RWZ to work off of.

  7. Also, if you have the port to mission power and have done the initial contact in Cimirora.

    - Call Roman contact, get timed Cim mission (from anywhere (save PvP zones?))
    - Use port to mission power to port to Cim
    - Cim --> Midnight Club

Works blue side, at least, would assume red side as well.

Also useful to get to RWZ from anywhere, and blue side, useful to get to the Shard from anywhere.

I noticed it too, also thought it was another person pissing them off for a second (people do that, no clue why) but then I saw a group spawning and immediately grab their shields. Bugged it too as it doesn't make much sense to me and it looks kinda stupid.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It doesn't make sense for you to have soldiers and guards in a contested area prepared to repel attacks....?

    Okay!

    -Rachel-

[/ QUOTE ]There's a couple of things why it doesn't make sense:
    1. There's no imminent threat.
    2. If there was, grabbing their shield and sword takes a second.
    3. The fighting position is impossible to be standing still in a whole day long.

If there's no need, why do anything else than just standing in the most comfortable position and keep an eye out for something that might be a threat? Then, when there is, you will be fit enough to able to fight.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And when you can see them, they can see you, who is a possible threat.

We never see them when they're not ready for battle, we only see them when they're ready for battle. Hence, they should be prepared, and ready for the beatdown you're going to put on them.

    TF "Must Haves"?

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
It's becoming increasingly more aggravating to get into a TF PUG lately. Seems there are becomine more and more "must have" builds - and if you dont have that build - no need to apply. Is this game turning into Guild Wars?

    You "must have":
    - A stone tanker
    - A Kin
    - A Rad
    - A Cold Fender
etc., etc., the list goes on.

As far as I'm concerned, the only must haves are a good tank and a decent healer (and perhaps 1 controller) - the rest of the party is fairly flexible. Yes, there are team builds that go a lot faster than the random pick up group - but I saw someone spam last night for an hour to get that "perfect" team. I'd be really curious if that team build made up for the hour+ of broadcasting.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The only things I know of that require a certain team makeup to be successful are MoSTF and MoRSF runs. And even then there is room for adjustment.

The only things I require for a TF are:

    1) Something to hold agro, any kind of tank will generally work. A WP or Shield scrapper will do in a pinch. A controller that can lock everything down consistently is acceptable as well.

    2) Something with some form of heal that is usable on others. A dark or a kin will work for that. Alternately, sufficient buffing ability to make heals unnecessary works too. I'd rather have a good bubbler than a bad healer.

    3) Damage dealers. This includes everyone on the team. If you're playing an empath, and have no one in need of healing, and all your buffs are applied, you damn well BETTER be hurting something. I don't care if you only have one attack, USE IT!

    4) Players who aren't going to take the whole thing too damn seriously. I usually don't make speed runs, and players that complain about it taking too long are liable to get kicked if they annoy me enough. It takes a LOT of annoyance to get me to the point of kicking someone though.

    5) People who actually talk. I don't like running missions with complete strangers who never say anything. Crack a joke, make a comment, ask a question, ANYTHING but stoney silence!

I've been told that my requirements are too harsh. I don't think they are at all. Do you guys?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Win. This post has it.
  13. This is a crazy idea.

Maybe it could look like one of the Power Pez dispensers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQXB5LLyM0w.

Incidentally, I almost won an auction at the Cleveland Pez convention back in 1998 for one the prototype Power Pez.

In all seriousness, this suggestion would break the game. Insps are powerful, okay, let's face it, purple insps are powerful. I feel one of the trade offs, besides tray size, is earning them randomly from drops (I believe the old prototype CoH PnP game had you roll d10 after an enemy died. On a 10, you got an insp) or choosing how you want them at the begining of a mission.

Being able to eat 8 reds, 8 purples and 8 yellows at any time that you wanted would break the game not even imagined in Castle's nightmares.

That said, having a vet power that allows you to contact a store anywhere in a mission (or the shard) so you can sell things and buy insps (and maybe TO/DO/SO at the natural levels they come out) that has a 1 or 2 hour recharge, that I could get behind.

If it's as common as being able to click the non-combat pet, it is akin to the Konami Code for Contra, only it gives you 500 lives, perma spread gun, perma invincibility, and a puppy.

Edit: wow, helps to read to the end of the comment. Sorry OP, didn't see your suggestion there for a strong recharge. Heck, I only came to this post because someone told me to check this thread out re: my Pez obsession/collection.

    Group hug.

(This is also your best debuffing power. It makes things like vet powers, which don't benifit from build up or yellow pills, hit more often).

    Huh. Good to know.
  15. For all of those people who are making them but not seeing anyone play them: How are you getting the word out about your arc other than just posting them in your sig?

My take on it is that if I don't use any of the existing methods (threads for rating arc, creating a movie or a poster, etc) about my arc, I don't expect anyone to play it. Unless I do something to draw attention to my arc over the other arcs present, I expect excatly 0 plays on my arc.

Are there methods for getting your arc id to the masses out there that aren't working?
  16. I just this week posted my first one, (Arc 204741: When The Bough Breaks....) and other for that line above, I haven't done any advertising.

Work is almost at a point where I can tweak the mission itself, as well as start making it know, but yeah, I'm slowly but surly still using MA.
  17. I've soloed and teamed with my emp/rad ever since I0. Cosmic Burst at 26 (or is it 28?) will totally change the feel of your game once you get it.

Until then, at lower levels neutrno bolt and x-ray are all you need for an early attack chain. Yes, they do very low damage, but they recharge pretty quick. What I do is this:

Open with irradiate. (This is also your best debuffing power. It makes things like vet powers, which don't benifit from build up or yellow pills, hit more often). Focus on one player until the DOT damage from irradiate will take him. Doesn't matter if he's alive to take one or two more shots, it's more efficent for you to let the DOT take him off.

Alternate neutrnio and x-ray. I'm set up for neutrino, x-ray, neutrnio, neutrino, x-ray, neutrino. Pay attention to how much damage an enemy has left. If someone has a sliver of life, let irradiate's DOT finish them, or let neutrino finish them off. Save x-ray for someone with more health.

Once you get cosmic burst (of if you take the snipe, aka the 4 glowy globs of doom and slot for interrupt redux), never use it to finish someone while soloing, always use it for guys with larger health. So what if someone shoots you once or twice, you have to play with the mentality of a regen blaster, aka I can heal some minion damage back with heal aura.

Micromanaging your attacks to get just a little bit more milage out of your blasts really goes a long way when you're trying ot eek out every last bit of damage. If you're on Virtue, I can give you a demo with my emp, if not and you want to try and set something up on test server let me know.

edit: In a post i9 world, with IOs that proc, you must take advantage of this. I know you're low level, but you have some of the fastest recharging powers in the game. Which mean you have more oppertunity for procs to fire. And since your blasts all do defense debuff, you can slot procs for those sets as well as procs for ranged blasts, aoe blasts, pbaoe, etc....

And since defense debuff are generally not as popular, they're generally cheaper on the market as well...

Game Table - not as fancy, not as pretty, but free, and gets the job done.

This is what I use (located in Pittsburgh, PA) to rp with a group of friends in Syracuse, NY. They all gather around the GM's large screen tv, he hooks his laptop to the tv and runs the software off of that for the group, I connect to it with my pc and connect via Teamspeak for voice.

Sorry for my cheeky response earlier.

In all seriousness, it's your call as the star owner. Everyone has their specific level of competence they can handle or deal with. Just be prepared for any consequences, positive or negative. Other team members may or may not quit based on what you do, and how you handle it. (Joking with them / giving them a friendly reminder vs. throwing an iron fisted boot to the head)

I play an empath that likes to blast, often times too much. I don't like it when people call for fort / ab as soon as I join a team, to me there is a certain level of implied ineptatude towards my ability as a teammate, as well as an overinflated value towards yours. I generally fort blasters, fenders, and trollers, try to start a cm cycle if we're up against heavy mezzers (And will not cm if fighting mez light critters, so deal with it), and work with any other empath on the team to get as great a fort coverage as possible.

Annoncing my fort cycle at the beginning of a tf or group is often enough to other people not pulling their weight to ship up. Or, it can bring attention to the rest of the team who isn't pulling their weight in a passive manner (not passive-aggressive, mind you).

I rarely have the star, people naturally follow the tanker regardless of star or not, so I'm not in your situation. But friendly communication with the team, both with the problem members and the good members, makes it easier to work with problem members, and feel somewhat better when you have to take terminal action.

Please waste the Devs' time on this...

Unfortunately there's been an ongoing problem with the Vet award system since it started where there have been various random people who have been getting their awards either many weeks earlier than they should or in some cases weeks later than they should.

My guess is that it only happens to a handful of people so the Devs have never really been sufficiently motivated to fix it. On the other hand the fact that they've let something like this fester for years is pretty sad because it undermines the basic confidence we players have in the system. It's hard to have faith in the concept when there are players who are getting these awards practically randomly.

    Good luck with this.

    [/ QUOTE ]

First, I agree with you, a bug is a bug that should be fixed.

But 'fester'? 'Undermine the basic confidence'? I wager this is just a low priority low severity bug. If it's anything like my work, were I have bugs assigned to me that were logged way back in 2001, when they do a bug scrub they simply have bigger fish to fry.

I agree it should be fix. The lack of a fix, however, does not 'undermine my basic confidence' in the devs. That just seems like overly harsh language for a non-game breaking issue.
