I think we're just gonna have to wait and see. Some of those questions might not even have answers at this point.
-
For the record, I first thought the thread title was referred to the things I said to a returning player today that you shouldn't say on the forums:
-Healer
-Meow farm
-Jack Emmert -
I think a lot of the attitude comes from that until now, we've been mostly used to the devs being pretty lax by MMO standards, and being quiet about having to take action against players (as far as I know, anyway). Positron's announcement was a huge shock, but I think it was necessary to get the message across that farming MA exploits=bad.

That is exactly the same as telling a judge in traffic court: "I pay my taxes, traffic laws shouldn't apply to me."
[/ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people actually do this. And then there's the ones that think they shouldn't pay taxes and traffic laws shouldn't apply to them... -

Why would a level 16 need a shivan?
[/ QUOTE ]
I would have to say that after reading the OP's responses in this thread, he needs shivans because his bad attitude makes him a poor teammate, and inability to follow simple instructions makes soloing difficult for him. At least shivans won't get disgusted with him and quit his team.

...and I have a new entry for "You know you're a terrible player when..." -
The majority of players shrugged and moved on when the exploit was closed, most were probably glad that they could find teams to play the actual game again. The handful of whiners on the forums prove nothing. Hysteria about getting banned for 'playing too well' is completely unfounded- yes, the devs made some mistakes, but they're working on fixing those mistakes. If it's the price to have less level 50 newbies, so be it.
Champions and DCUO are going to have teething problems like any new MMO. A lot of players may go over to check them out, but it's likely that many of them will come back just as quick. They're not going to instantly convince the entire established playerbase to leave everything they've made here and start over from scratch. -

I can only imagine the griefing potential. -
The devs closed an exploit, and made efforts to reverse the effects of that exploit. That is, effectively, all that people are complaining about. There's been no massive nerfs that change the game forever, nothing on the scale of ED. A lot of people got addicted to MA farms and are exhibiting their withdrawal symptoms all over the forums, but in a year this game will still be chugging along fine and most people will consider it an amusing note in the game's history.

Why would anyone give SUPER Reflexes to Robin or Batman? They don't have any super powers, they're agile but they can't bullet-time dodge stuff. Gee, what kind of defense set would a natural themed character with no superpowers have... Maybe... Willpower?
[/ QUOTE ]
You must not remember the time before Willpower when Super Reflexes was the go-to for Natural themes.
And Robin's a former acrobat and even more of a mobile martial artist than Batman, I think SR fits very well. Maybe Willpower does too though, Teen Titans Robin was pretty damn hot blooded. -
I'd say if any comics characters fit the CoX mould best, it's most of the various X-Men cast. Storm is (obviously) a Storm/Elec Defender, Jean is a Grav/Psi troller, and we all know Wolverine...
As for Batman, I always enjoy this argument/discussion, it gets very interesting. I'd say that each different incarnation of Batman has a different fighting style to represent. I still agree that Batman is a Stalker in most versions- let's face it, with some RP and careful mission choices, you could easily play a superhero who happens to fight crime in the Rogue Isles.
Batman: TAS and Justice League strike me as having a Dark/Nin Stalker, especially considering how Batman works with the rest of the League. (Superman has powers toned down here too, so he's often more of a Tanker) He uses gadgets, circumstances and theatrics to unnerve his enemies as he fights them. (Terry McGinnis of Batman Beyond is totally a Scrapper though, with stealth)
The Batman on the other hand, comes off as more of a Martial Arts user, maybe just because of the animesque style. (Robin in Teen Titans is THE MA/SR Scrapper)
Good ol' Adam West, on the other hand, seems like much more of a Scrapper, maybe even a Tanker. -
You may even have to *shudder* join a team...
-
I imagine it would be vastly different depending on the powersets of the Corruptor or Controller.
-
People. Don't argue real science in a superhero game. Your head will explode.
Arguing over 'pre-emptive healing' isn't much better, there's no such concept in this game and buffs are better anyway. -

There's also a wide variety of Temporary Powers that summon pets of some sort, often based on enemy groups. The Shivan Shard is possibly the most notable.

I still click 'em. I don't think I'd do much better with a bunch of binds, I'd probably end up forgetting what they do.

It was a very welcome change because Warshades have powers which depends on defeated foes. Fighting Arachnos with lots of Drones and Tarantulas before the change was as bad as fighting CoT with mostly Spectrals spawning.
[/ QUOTE ]
The funny thing is, sometimes an exploded enemy is still usable for Stygian Circle/Unchain Essence/Dark Extraction, even if there's no "body." Try using your "targetcustomnext enemy defeated" bind/macro, you might find that you can target thin air where the enemy was and use it for those powers. I agree about Spectrals though. And Gordon Bower's defeat-all-ghosts missions would be unbearable on a Warshade if not for the ghosts' weakness to negative energy.

The same principle works for players using the Self Destruct power and Howling Twilight. -
joelandrum, if you want help, you should listen to what people have to say and not get defensive over perceived slights. There has been a lot of good advice in this thread, but it won't do you any good if you're not willing to listen, learn and act on that advice.

Freaks are not the new meow. they offer no where near the same of XP/min that you could achieve with the comm officers are any level. The broken or the regular.
It is not the mobs that are broken its the methods used in building the maps. The same features that give you lots of flexibility with mission design can be used to game the system and maximize reward.
To be honest they can nerf the mobs all day long but its never going to change that fact that you can level all the way to 50 without ever leaving Atlas or Cap. A huge portion of the time saved and the increased XP/Min is because you never have to travel to a mission, run to a contact or do a leg mission just for mission bonus.
If your getting XP 95% of the time your logged in instead of 40% you are going to level dramatically faster. At this point running MA is not much faster then grinding out kill all ITFs from 35-50, its just easier to find a team.
The devs are fighting a loosing battle here. People are figuring out new and better way to build these maps fast enough to make your head spin. They nerf one and you just move along to the next. They'll have to nerf the system into obscurity to stop the farming.
I don't think NCSoft corporate will keep supporting this itteration of the Dev team if they keep loosing players at the current rate. Issue 15 looks flat at best and the little oops of early news about Going Rogue isn't going to stop a large portion of this player base from at least checking out the coming competition in September.
The sad thing is that I don't think they really care. They really believe that 5 years of old content is going to overcome the brand new shiney. Sure folks will flock back when GR drops but how many of them are gonna stay after the devs screw that up and the novelty wears off.

Not to mention, certain bosses may well do better against certain other bosses, much like players with different powersets, damage types and effects.

I refer you to a word that is very popular among "gangstas" a word that is used to describe their best friend, which was once used only to keep them down. A word that I know would be censored, and even if it wasn't I would get modsmacked and possibly banned because I am white and used it.
[/ QUOTE ]
There is, of course, a difference here. The N-word you alluded to has been embraced as a way to remove its stigma. If I were a black man, I might feel that me using the N-word is empowering, as now it is MY word, not the word of silly racist white people. The same goes for the other F-word and the gay community (though that one offends me regardless).
[/ QUOTE ]
All this does is end up with people of all races all over the world using the word unironically because they think it's cool.
[/ QUOTE ]
as a guy who has a Pikachu on Pikachu fight as an Avatar, i think you lose all credibility about inter race fighting ^_^
p.s. I did cry when i watched the ending of that movie in the theaters as a kid. What! it was sad!

Which one? There's like, 12 Pokemon movies at last count. Though I think after 3 they all go direct to DVD now.

I remember joining one farming team that all got themselves killed in a few minutes. Nobody disagreed that the Meow farming attitude was to blame.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah for the good old days before Meow farming when PuGs NEVER got themselves all quickly killed out of sheer incompetence.

Just the map and identical mobs, the playstyle of 'put one of the MM's pets on Follow, an attack on Auto, and go do something outside' kind of gets ingrained. -
I've always been absolutely terrible at every single sport, but I've always enjoyed misusing sports equipment for violent ends.

Friggin' anything. Any trio should be able to do most content in the game, and you only even need two of them to be close in levels, they can sidekick/exemplar the third (and in the Mission Architect, you don't even have that to worry about). Above level 35 you can even cross over heroes and villains, though on a trial you don't get that far (or the MA, for that matter...).
If you're on a trial, I say try as many different things as you want to, you'll reach the trial cap of 14 in no time. If you're playing in the same room, you'll work better as a team in any circumstances thanks to better coordination.
...only issue is, you'll have to get a fourth person to team you up, since trial accounts can't start teams. I recommend at least one of you get the full version (hardly expensive nowadays, think of it as an 'extended trial'). If you don't want to outstrip the others, there's actually an option to stop gaining XP.
