can you solo easier with a corruptor or controller

wanting a solo build but not sure which is better corruptor or controller?

I enjoy my Corruptors far more than any Controller I've taken to a decent level, but that may just be me. I like shooting stuff.

I have to give the edge here to Corruptors. They have a better overall damage output. Controllers can solo pretty well but it's a bit slower and requires a lot of patience.
Corruptors can blast holes in things. Controllers more strangle them to death.

Sonic/Dark. You will pwn things so hard you'll travel back in time...and pwn them again.

Funny thing is that you can really do that too.

I'm going to go a little against the grain here.

Sure, Obviously it's build dependent, my fire/dark corruptor was nothing less than a true monster (perhaps I should roll another some day) but at least in the mid game and after, most of my controllers were very solid. The combination of damaging powers from my control primary, and containment made most of my controllers feel capable enough for damage, and radically safer. Not only that but they often had options that corruptors don't get.

There is no seeds of confusion for corruptors, there are no fire imps, there are no phantom armies.

I'll easily grant that those sets are the high damage controllers, but I guess that's really my point. A high damage controller is pretty damn good, especially when compared to a lower damage corruptor.

Certainly my rad/thermal is agonizingly slow to solo at the moment, although that should improve some once I've got the second damage proc into his attacks, and once I've got more IO recharge driving my big guns. OK he's probably competitive with my earth/thermal, but you know... Stoney with forge isn't half bad, and with the two res procs and thermal shields, he's an unbeatable monster of a tank as well...

/thirded.

I think of my sonic/dark corr as a ranged brute with strong controller tendencies.

I'm going with Spiritchaser on this one.

As far as consistent soloing from 1-50, Corruptor is your best bet. But for faster/safer soloing mid- and late-game, many Controller builds will start pulling ahead (i.e., the ones with fire/ and illusion/ and /rad and /kin as well as others.)

For a soloing corruptor, a sonic/rad is pretty good, with the only real disadvantage being that you get most of your good powers early and so don't really have anything to look forward to.

I'd like to throw FIre/Dark into the mix.

Sure, you don't have the res debuff form Sonic, but you have more damage in the form of damage over time from the Fire attacks, plus

Tar Patch+Fearsome Stare +Rain of Fire+Fire Ball is amazing to watch. I still don't get tired of seeing enemies melt. Toss in an Aim before Rain of Fire, and there's even more damage flying around.

Safe=Easy for a noob.

It may be slower, but only if you solo.

I felt much safer on my controllers than on my corr, that's for sure. I had to darn near play like an idiot to die with my Min/Kin (and sometimes I would). Well, or not plan well for certain EB or mob types (curse you, Nemesis!). My Grav/Storm took more damage, but dished out more too.

My corr did ok, but I never felt like the extra damage she might have done quite made up for having very little mitigation (NRG/Kin...another thread kicking around on energy). So even with a heal, she planted a lot (Transfusion while guys are pounding on you << Transfusion while all mobs are slept/held). I was mezzed much more and I didn't feel like I could take on groups that were as large.

I need to try more corr combos out to really compare though.

I imagine it would be vastly different depending on the powersets of the Corruptor or Controller.

soloing is ridiculously easy with fire/rad. take mace mastery as your patron for the aoe immob and single target hold and you can litterally gather everything on a map and kill it all at once.

teaming is a different story. most people dont know how to team with a /rad.

I'm going to toss my support to sonic/Pain and fire/storm.

fire/storm pisses damage, is very hard to kill and has a pile of emergency buttons.

Sonic/Pain is pretty beefy once you get perma WoP, but not as much of an invicible tanking beast, but still extremely powerful solo and on teams. Just sleep a group, anguishing cry, and go to town. Nullify pain on auto and soothing aura make you pretty resilient. I did the math at one point, forgot the numbers, but it's very similar in regen stats with those two abilities autofiring to the regen scrapper of old, but with significantly more resists and less hp.

See this being in the corruptor thread, I think its only reasonable to see more on that end.

I think a controller for soloing would be easier in the higher levels though. They might damage critters less, but containment will help. That, and they really mitigate the damage comming thier way.

I know I solo with my controllers far easier (although slower at first) than any of my corruptors.

Unlike most folks on this thread I actually have had the opposite experience - I have an easier time soloing my controllers than my corruptors, although I will freely admit I only play certain controller sets (mind, illusion and plant to be specific). I have only been able to get 2 corruptor up to L22+, my fire/rad because I duo'ed with my brother (2 fire/rads burn through things very fast) and my fire/dark because I pushed on through the levels that are toughest for me during a double XP weekend. I don't play the fire/rad any more and while i have gotten my fire/dark to 31 I find it to be either to easy or to frustrating to play.

On the other hand I have 2 plant/*, 3 Illusion/* and 2 mind/* controllers that are between 25 and 40 and I may eventually push my illusion/rad up to 50.

Part of the reason I have so much easier time with controllers is because on blue side you can start slotting some SO level enhancements at Level 10 depending on your origin and being able to cap your damage slotting by level 11 or 13 in certain powers helps a lot. However I find playing even my L31 fire/dark an exercise in frustration and I am fairly sure I don't just need to lrn2play - I am quite comfortable with standard dark tactics.

I would suggest that the OP try BOTH and make sure you are using equally soloable power sets. As folks mentioned above anything/dark is pretty good for soloing as a corruptor with /rad a good second choice (I actually think /rad is a better debuffing secondary but /dark has more -to hit, more control and is less dependant on toggles which helps a lot while soloing). For controllers mind/anything solo's excellently at all levels (although it is not as fast post 32 as other controllers with pets) and both plant and illusion are fairly soloable as well.

Damn you people. I stopped playing my sonic/dark at around 27 because I couldn't think of a good origin story for her. I just got my ice/cold to 50, and I think I'm gonna level her up next
