Quote:I gotta admit, I try not to enforce roles, but 'Cowardly Tankers' are indeed one of my pet peeves. Tankers can, by definition, take damn near anything thrown at them, and they'll only have to put up with the alpha strike before everyone else fires back. Brutes need less encouragement, maybe because of Fury. While COH is fairly lax on archetype roles (who's responsible for doing what), ie there are overlaps so certain powersets in other archetypes or highly experienced players can take on the same responsibility to an extent, players may still expect certain actions from you just because you are that archetype. Being a Tank is a prime example.
Some players consider a Tank (any Tank) to be the defacto "leader". Not necessarily the Team leader, but a Tank is typically expected to lead/pave the way for the team. You'd be expected to be up front all the time, to choose which fork in the road to go, to choose which enemy group to engage first, to be the first into the enemies, to grab the attention of all the enemies, to ensure the boss enemy doesn't go after anyone else, and if necessary, to hold the line and die so the team can retreat. As you can see, Tanks come with a lot of baggage and if you don't "measure up" by the first couple of enemy groups, most likely the team will designate you as either a wannabe Scrapper or "useless" and then proceed to deal with things themselves. -
I just consider it another form of PVP.

Welcome to City of Heroes. Most people just consider PvP more trouble than it's worth.

I've built one in my base, I'm looking at using it to store salvage for the Empowerment station. Since most of my alts have a different use for that thing, they might as well use different Salvage.

Generally, this game isn't hard enough to need much planning or tactics- everyone can make their team contribution without having to talk it over, buffing and debuffing and damage dealing and whatever. And most experienced players know what they're going to be up against and can deal with it- most of the enemies in this game will go down just as easily to the usual tactics.
Death is a slap on the wrist, making gamebreaking builds is easy, and the enemies are dumb. There's not much to worry about. -
The resulting builds would probably be mega-expensive or impractical.
-
I'm never paying enough attention to care.

We have an entire forum for this. It is very active.

The Council are basically a rebalanced 5th Column, mechanically.

I always figured Santa could either stop time, multiply himself, or just works with the Grim Reaper to keep everything scheduled really really well.

Another person who doesn't want advice, they want everyone agreeing with them.

A simple fix to base pathing and such might be to make everything destroyable, including scenery... and have it all reset back to normal as soon as the raid is over. So sure, you can build a wall of desks, but we can blow em up, and they'll be back once we're gone.
Would require a few changes to certain base items, but it's not like anyone would really care. -

In some legends, Santa defeated and enslaved a demon who now helps him punish naughty children.
I mean jeez. -

It may be important to realise, especially if you haven't played many alts, that the choice of powersets in this game can make two Defenders play completely differently. Kinetics, Trick Arrow and Empathy are all completely different, and in many other games would probably be different classes. Other ATs have shades of this as well (Corruptors in particular, what with being mirror Defenders) in that while most powersets in the same category do more or less the same thing, they have very different ways of going about it.
If you're playing a team support character, your priorities should probably be Blasters and other Defenders and Controllers first- they're the 'squishies', and Blasters in particular have a knack for attracting lots of flack what with their big flashy attacks and everything. A properly built Tanker will be very hard to kill and is as concerned with keeping the team alive as you are, while Scrappers tend to take care of themselves but their tendency to go into berserker rages (a player tendency, not a class feature) means they appreciate a few good buffs, and a heal if they don't have one themselves. (most melee defensive sets have at least one self-heal of their own, another reason healing is considered unimportant)
But above all, don't stress over it.The game's meant to be fun, and the death penalty is a joke. (heck, there's badges for working off debt) Combined buffs and good builds can make a team virtually invincible, and that's working as intended. It's not a game about grinding and raiding and arguing over loot, it's about kicking immense amounts of **** while dressed as a dork in the pursuit of completely pointless rewards, and making your own challenges and goals. If you're having fun, you're doing it right. -
And Katana. There's variants available for every edged weapon. I thought everyone knew by now, I mean it's a freaking laser sword.

Quote:Vanguard Broadsword or Katana, done.OK seriously...
Darth Vader
I don't see a way to do anything with melee weapons to represent a light sabre. I've actually created a tongue-in-cheek Anakin (pre-fall from grace) as a Dark Miasma/Electric Blast Defender.
I've also considered going with Gravity Control for the levitate/flinging of objects.
Would be cool to have a power to repel enemies with the wave of a hand too... mental manipulation has one i suppose. Hrm. -

I'm not sure how recently but the Hollows has been softened a bit. The geography is still a pain but it has a hospital, shops, a trainer and more variety in enemy spawns now.
There's also an expansion box called Going Rogue coming down the line, that's finally including side-switching, new zones, graphical updates and various other things. -
Well, my particular foxboy is very glad he put a laser sight on his rifle.
-
I have to ask, I happen to have a (heavily armed pyromaniac) foxboy, where does he stand?

I've made a dwarf using the Valkyrie armour. The ridiculously huge shoulderpads work for a Warhammer style.
