Brainstorming Ideas

I realise that the 'Player Help' may not be the best place for this thread, but as I've no better place to put it, here is the best place I can think to put it.

I won't go into too many details, but here's how it started. You know the purchasable jetpack power on the website? If not go look for it. It's under the 'Buy Now' part of the site. One of the people in my SG saw it, asked about it and then we started wonderingabout why City of Heroes/Villians didn't HAVE backback/jetpack costume peices. In the ensuing conversation we brainstormed a few things that were either A) missing, B) underdevolped or C) would be great to have. This isn't so much a list of demands, or commands. It's a wish list of reccomandations and requests, as well as I call to ask for more ideas and thoughts. Amoung them...

More Chest Emblems: There were a lot of emblems that seem like no brainers that were left out. Swords, dragons, axes, hammers, feathers, halos. Maybe stylized letters rather than plain bold fonts.

More Weapon Skins: Such as more hammer skins for War Mace, better axes for the, well, axes. Maybe a light saber/sword for Broadsword/Katana/Dual Wielding sets.

More Costume Hair Styles: This isn't really required by any means, but a few new styles wouldn't hurt.

Costume Designs: A 50/50 down the middle one is almost demanded. Particularly since there is a 50/50 mask, but nothing for other body parts of the costume.

More Costume Pieces: As mentioned, backpacks and jetpacks. As well as quivers for archery based heroes, sheathes for sword based heroes, gun holsters for Dual Pistol/Thug Mastermind users. A wider varity of helmets and hats would also be recommended, particuarly a Robin Hood style hat.

More Power Sets: The varied sets of COX are one of that main draws, and there is little that isn't in there in the game in some form, however one can suggest a Brawling moveset (A stronger, slower Martial Arts designed for less trained heroes) a Bo Staff set and a Counter-Attack defense set (Not much damage mitigation like regeneration, but a chance to deal damage when hit).

Customizable Pool Powers: With Issue Sixteen out it's been proven that the devolpors do listen to suggestions. Customizable Pool Powers (Adjustable at the Tailors after aquisition) would be the next step. Aside from adjusting any colours animations are the name here. Like being able to adjust flight animations without using binds or emotes, teleport powers that makes you appear in a puff of smoke or fire, or even leaving a trail of flames or after images with Super Speed.

Adjustable Stances: My SG-mate suggested this one not long ago; namily with all the cat/wolf/dog/ect characters about wouldn't it be nice if they could walk/run/jump like animal people would? Maybe it would would only with a customizable spirint (See the Pool Powers idea abouve), or add changing ones Stance as an option under the power section of Character Creation/Tailor.

And yes, I know this is a big wish list... One wouldn't expect the devs to give us everything on the list, but even so isn't it our jobs as players to come up with ideas that we want so the devs can look at it and figure out how to make the game better for us? It would also be an idea for the costume peices/designs to be presented much like the packs (Martial Arts, Cyborg, ect) have been. A ten to fifteen dollar addition to have access to more costume options. One would even think with Champions Online out and it's robust costume creator that such additions would make the game more competitive.

Just some thoughts. Care to add anymore ideas people?

Over in the "Development" sections of the forums, there is a sub-forum called "Developer's Corner". There is a lengthy (and I mean lengthy) thread about Costume Part requests. It would be where you request anything you would like to see added in terms of costume parts/hairstyles/whatever.

There is also a thread on customized weapon options, which runs a good number of pages as well.

Now, I'm going to let you know, the whole "backpack/jetpack/etc." thing has been brought up many times before. The reason why there aren't any permanent costume parts for the back area (notwithstanding capes) is that there are issues with where the items "hook" onto the character. (For an example of what I mean by this, if you use the Raptor Pack from the first Safeguard mission on a normal body character, it appears to attach to the back of the character, but if you use it on a huge body character, it sinks into the back.)

It's also a general assumption that at some point in the future, probably not until after Going Rogue releases, that we will be able to apply the same sort of customization options to Pool Powers that we already have for most Primary/Secondary powersets.

Anyway, the Developer Corner forum is the place to ask about these sort of things.

I'm only going to touch on a few issues here - many of these have been brought up many times before. Also, I bet someone else responds before me (no one had when I started this), so forgive repeated comment/criticisms.

First off, there exist already official Custom Weapon request and Costume request threads (in Suggestions and Ideas, and Developer's Corner respectively).

Re: backpack/jetpack - Currently, there only exists one node on the player skeleton for placing back details, and designing back pieces that don't clip horribly has proven difficult to my understanding.

Re: powersets - Our devs are pretty great about getting us new sets. Archery/Trick Arrow, Sonic Resonance, and Dual Blades are just the sets that I can think of off the top of my head, and I know there have been more than that (if not what they were... must be getting old ). That doesn't even count the Epic Archetypes, or those sets introduced with City of Villains. Demon Summoning and Dual Pistols are coming with the Going Rogue expansion, and all the Powerset Proliferation that has occurred is more than simply porting over from one archetype to another.
Regarding your specific examples, the desire for a 'brawling' or 'street fighting' set is part of the reason for the alternate animations for Martial Arts that came with power customization. I don't believe the game engine is capable of a 'Counter-attack' type set. I think 'Staffs' were part of that marketing survey ages ago that eventually got us shields, so the Devs know we would like it and just haven't gotten there yet.

Re: Pool Customization - I'm pretty sure that this will be the next target for customization, per BABs.

Re: Adjustable Stances - unfortunately, I think that the player skeleton is not flexible enough to be morphed in such a way - it's part of why even Warwolves don't run that way, and why we only have humanoid critters to fight - everything I can think of to fight(save Hamidon) has two arms and two legs, not four legs.

Champion 50s (blueside): Marc Bridge, Nicole Bridge, Fred Blaze, Colleen Storms, Sun's Chariot, Moon's Huntress, Point of Pride
Guardian 50s (redside): Connie Mand
AE arc: Spirit Plane Invasion, #29282, @Honbrid

Tentacles (lusca, hydra, and thorn tree), spider (for the various arachnobot types)... But, generally speaking, I think the devs would prefer to use existing skeletons rather than developing new ones due to cost/benefit reasons.

And just to comment on a few of the OP's suggestions (that might have been a better forum section, by the way)...

  • More Weapon Skins: while more shineys is always great (we do have "lightsaber-esque" weapons; they can be unlocked for (200?) vanguard merits.), I think we need more options on some other sets before we make more axes/swords.. Pistols (probably coming with GR), Pulse Rifles, Arachnos guns, and arachnos maces all need some luvin'
    • On the subject of Arachnos maces... I know the devs don't want to port any old mace, because of the multi-tool functions of the Arachnos ones... but could we at least get the "crops" that Dominatrix's flunkies use (hint hint, would be a great unlockable in GR).
    • Wouldn't mind the tech mace either, That thing looks like it could be modified to fire energy blasts and stuff.
  • More Costume Hair Styles; again, more shineys are always good - just saing, they have been adding a number of hairstyles somewhat recently.
  • A 50/50 texture or pattern; I would love this too...
  • More Costume Pieces; although I don't see anything wrong with quivers (other than the likely clipping issues)... I think the devs gave up on the idea of sheathes/holsters because the costume piece would either show a weapon there ALL the time (like Infernal's axe), or be constantly empty.
  • More Power Sets; we're supposedly getting demon summoning and dual pistols in GR, we've just gotten earth assault (some new, some old) and a bunch of proliferations. Not like we're in despirate need for something else. (although... wouldn't mind a bo-staff.... even if it were another smashing/lethal heavy weapon set)

Nothing new to see here. The OP appears to have scanned thru Jay's Costume Request thread and the Suggestion and Ideas forum and cherry picked popular requests for a wish list which he posted in the wrong section.

The devs won't even see this thread because they don't follow posts in this section. If the OP is lucky maybe a mod will move it to the Suggestion section.

Also it's not hard to figure out this is the wrong section for this type of post. Each section has a description of what it's used for.

Player Questions
Got a Question? Get an answer! Players helping players find information related to CoH/CoV.

Developers' Corner

You can get a Raptor pack in FBZ for 10k inf.

1. Do Outbreak and don't use your insp.
2. Kill two or three Outcasts running from Ms Lib to Went's.
3. Place each up for auction at 12 or so. They'll sell for 5k and 40k.
4. Shout for an SG or run to SC, green line, Talos, PI, FBZ.
5. If you got a SG, tp to PI. Run to FBZ.
6. Pay the man. Fly away.

Doesn't the RWZ also link to PI? I think that's one of the fastest routes from Atlas Park.

That is correct. Postagulous probably forgot about the lifted level restrictions

Vanguard will let you through from Atlas??!!!!

Actally I didn't read it, and I half figured it would be the wrong section. Late at night at the time and I was half asleep to begin with...

My mistake then.

Yes. (No level restriction on the Warzone.)
No. (No jetpack vendor in RWZ.)

No problem. Sleep monster does have that effect on all of us.

Also do not slot those starting enhancers, then sell them at one of the vendors in Atlas or Galaxy for your seed money.

2. Kill two or three Hellions running from Ms Lib to Went's.
Always a good thing, but now optional if you kept your enhancers. ***EDIT*** Outcasts changed to Hellions since that is the cannon fodder for Atlas.

I found the most effective way is to first sell the red for however much you can afford to list it for. Most frequently, you can get around 20-40K for that. Then play the patience game and put up the big green for around 60-100K. You have really good odds of getting the 100K or more for it within the hour. And while you are waiting, you still have plenty left over for your Raptor Pack. Remember, there is no big rush to sell the second one, since you really don't need inf until level 7 at the earliest (level 10 TOs do make a noticeable difference.) and it is easy enough to live off of whatever inspirations drop for you during that time.

As others mentioned, Vanguard Base to PI is easiest way. As no one else mentioned though, take to the water if you can't find someone to port you. You can swim fairly safely all the way to Portal Corp.

May be more efficient to teleport to Pocket D then exit to King's Row and go from there actually.

Wow! It's rather difficult to imagine anyone not on a trial account these days not having the GvE pack. That is just too useful to not have.

So... when exactly did Outcasts get added to Atlas Park? And how is a level 2 character going to defeat even a level 5 Outcast?

Oops. Meant to fix the quote and change Outcasts to Hellions. I'm certain others were able to read between the lines and mentally make that change.

Ya know just the other day I was on a new character and I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw a couple Outcasts hanging out. I can only assume they were left over from an ambush or something.
