Cathedral of Pain Trial
I wouldn't recommend holding your breath until it returns, that's for sure.

Well ya I wasn't expecting it like this year but i was just wondering if when they removed they said anything about when it would come back or if it would comeback.
If they've ever said anything, it was probably along the lines of "when it's fixed". I don't think they have any kind of timeline for fixing it, at least nothing they've made public.

Ah, i see well one other question, is there information on whether or not they are going to expand on the Shadow Shard? I have had my first 50 since early 2007 and i have done mostly everything in the game other than 2 or 3 Shadow Shard TFs and I would like to know more about the area.
Well there's 4 Shadow Shard TFs, so that's at least 1 you haven't done. Occasionally there's speculation that the Shard will be made co-op, but nothing official.
There'll be some new content coming up in the expansion Going Rogue though, so that'll be something for your 50 to do. In the meantime, roll a new toon, maybe an Archetype or powerset combo you've never tried before.

Ya alright thanks for the info.
As DarkGob said, besides "Papa spank," there are no answers to either of your questions beyond pure speculation at this point.

When they changed the pathing rules for base building, I got the feeling that they are not going to be returning anything that has to with base raiding anytime soon. With how small the population of PvPers are, I would think that the CoP and base raids are close to the bottom of things to fix.

I was looking around Pargaonwiki and i found this trial and the information about the items of power. I would just like to know if there were ever any announcements on if and when it will be returned to the game. It was removed before i joined the game back in 2006 and it looks like a trial that could be very fun for a supergroup to do.

The subject of moving TF's to Ourobous has also come up before when talk has turned to updating various Freedom Phalanx TF's against in-game current events. E.G. Manticore's not really into going after Crey right about now. Clockwork King has that... romance... with Penelope. Woodsman has been rescued and now sits in Eden for that Trial. It's been suggested that the developers could move the older Task Forces into Ourobous and write new TF's for each of the signature Freedom Phalanx Heroes.
***
As of now now, Items of Power are gone. When they were removed from the game there was a posting from the developers that their purpose was served by Invention Origin Enhancements.
Since IoP are out of the picture, base raiding as it was imagined is effectively gone. I suspect that Base Raiding will return in Mission Architecture with the future capability to specify your base as a battleground map. Castle's gone on record... somewhere... that PvP is still being worked on. Now that Paragon Studio's has a larger dev team and a larger budget, there could be further workings done to PvP. That being said the really small PvP population, the Tabula Rasa debacle, and NCSoft's new MMO, AION, may very well mean the end of any further significant PvP development.
If they've ever said anything, it was probably along the lines of "when it's fixed". I don't think they have any kind of timeline for fixing it, at least nothing they've made public.

Actually, I think at some point they also said the CoP would basically be completely overhauled. So anyone who remembers the original version better not be hoping to get the same thing back.

one can always hope that it will be returned as a PvE experience with no PvP strings attached.

The CoP Trial had nothing (directly) to do with PvP (of course the REWARD triggered a PvP series of possible events...but the Trial itself was not in any direct way PvP). Beause of that, I don't see why it couldn't be resurrected with simply a different payoff.
|
That's what I mean. Instead of having to deal with PvP mess, just make it NPCs instead, so there's still that the risky thrill.

If moved to Ouro the reward would simply be merits. Items of Power are gone, and they were what caused the base raids. You earned the Items of Power through CoP. CoP itself did not directly involve any PvP play.
My comment about no PvP strings attached was directed towards the hope that it would simply be established as a merit-based TF, rather than relying on a McGuffin to create opportunities for PvP combat.
Ummm okay. I really think that my point is being missed entirely.
I'd like to see CoP reincarnated somehow. I never did get to experience the short-lived original version.
More importantly (to me anyways), I'd like to see the Power Liberator / Master Thief badge returned to the game. Obviously, it would no longer be related to IoPs, but the name is sufficiently generic that that badge could be re-introduced in any number of ways. Heck, I'm surprised they simply didn't change the villain side name to Power Liberator, and introduced the badge in I16 for your first time changing a power from default colour settings. The artwork wouldn't make much sense though ...
Q. Just wondering Posi, where are the new dance emotes we were told would come with GR?
A. Positron: Whoops, my bad.

Sunstorm posted about raids on July 1, 09. The thread no longer exists, but there is a record at Red Tomax's Dev Digest:
OK, so now that things have calmed down a bit, here's the low down on this one. Macskull and Warface both got it right. When we looked at how the PVP system was going to work with a rewards system, the result was pretty nasty. It's a massive oversimplification, but normal players could not compete with experienced PVP'rs, which wasn't much fun for the normal players. PVP needed to be reworked so a normal player had a reasonable chance of beating an experienced player. Otherwise, normal players simply will not play if they have no chance of winning. Ending the /threadjack there though. The reason it's still offline is because a number of the systems have been partially reworked for the changes. We're not exactly sure what would happen if base raids were turned on again, so we're keeping it locked away in a cage over a deep pit for now. In fact, base pathing was removed not just because the base editors would have fun with it, but also because some of the bugs caused by changing items for raiding were not easily solvable. Yes, we'll be looking at options regarding base pathing. Considering some bases have almost a 3 items per square foot density, that particular setup may not be viable. There are other ways around the pathing problem though. Hope that clarifies things a bit. Sunstorm |

Personally, I wouldn't like that, because I haven't the slightest interest in seeing my SG's nice functional base all smashed up after all the time and effort we've put into it, but then, I haven't the slightest interest in going through a huge raid thing to get a minor buff item to put in said base in the first place, so it'd be all the same to me. We just wouldn't bother and our base, presumably, would be safe. Mind you, if it caused them to bring back all those idiotic item-placement rules in the base editor, even for those of us with no interest in ever partaking, I'd be a bit riled about that.
No, I get you. You'd like to see the Cathedral of Pain/Items of Power business brought back, only instead of enabling other Super Groups to raid your SG's base, break your stuff, etc. if you had an Item of Power installed, you'd like to see it attract computer-controlled bad guys. (I'm not sure how you'd schedule that - I mean, it's not like just hanging around the base waiting to see if villains show up would be any fun, and it'd just be infuriating to have it happen while you were in the middle of, say, rearranging the teleport room - but, as you see below, that'd be someone else's problem.)

However, I am totally against them bringing back ANY kind of base raid if it means we lose our easystack.
Well, when i made this thread I didn't exactly have base raids nor the Items of Powers, I was directing this thread at the CoP trial itself. I would like to try a trial that involves up to 3 teams and is relatively tough. I would love to try something like that out with my SG mates. It would be extremely fun in my opinion. What some of you are bringing up is the base raids and I agree it would not be worth it so i would be fine with doing this trial for merely a badge. I play this game for the game itself not the reward so the IoP would not be something worth have enemys potentially destroy my base.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm saying. And there's lots of ideas I have about how they could make it workable but I don't work for NC so it's not for me to worry about.
