Cathedral of Pain Trial
one can always hope that it will be returned as a PvE experience with no PvP strings attached.

(How noncommittal of me.)
The subject of moving TF's to Ourobous has also come up before when talk has turned to updating various Freedom Phalanx TF's against in-game current events. E.G. Manticore's not really into going after Crey right about now. Clockwork King has that... romance... with Penelope. Woodsman has been rescued and now sits in Eden for that Trial. It's been suggested that the developers could move the older Task Forces into Ourobous and write new TF's for each of the signature Freedom Phalanx Heroes. |
Q. Just wondering Posi, where are the new dance emotes we were told would come with GR?

Was CoP ever really on the CoV box?
Was that the only reason people played CoV?
There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Not sure if a mention of the CoP was literally on the CoV box, but I'm pretty sure the mention of "base raiding PvP" was, and based on the original intentions the CoP was a key part of that collasped house of cards.
For the record I've firmly been in the "dust off the CoP and rework it for PvE" camp for years now. Surely some of that content could be retooled into something worthwhile without having to recreate something new 100% from scratch.
Also as a badger I'm in the "rework the Power Liberator / Master Thief badge into something that can be earned now" camp. The fact that the Devs let that badge remain in the game in its present unearnable form (especially in the light of removing dozens of less broken Architect badges) is an unfortunate legacy to say the least.

I view the CoP as a textbook example of why I'm always very skeptical of changes that are only "temporary" in this game. The problem with "temporary" fixes is they're often left alone so long that they effectively become permanent, and if they're eventually revisited there's usually an uproar when a long-standing functionality gets changed (see: pet recharge change in I14, TF/SF difficulty slider in I16, and so on).
Apparently there are plans to bring back base raiding sometime around Going Rogue, so that might mean the CoP trial will make a re-appearance, but I'm not holding my breath.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."

Hmm, two task forces, one where you defend your base from NPC attackers, and one where you attack another base crewed by NPC defenders.
Villain version, hero version, maybe a few tiers with larger bases, tougher defenses and enemies...
Timed, like most trials. Sounds good to me!

i would love to do the cathedral of pain trial to get items of power, i hate the idea of base raiding, and items of power they did have provided a lot of non-pvp related buffs (+1% xp, debt reduction, ect). i think they should bring back CoP and IoP, but dont link it at all with base raiding, if they want base raiding, they should choose a different type object that could be stolen in a raid, like click a glowy to steal prestige from the other sg, and make all items unhurtable except for defensive items. this in my opinion would allow the freedom of poeple to enjoy the hard-worked-for IoP and not have to worry about their base getting smashed up (a "allow base raid" option could be added and like with CoP it would have prereq needed, like a bank vault that poeple could steal prestige from)
A simple fix to base pathing and such might be to make everything destroyable, including scenery... and have it all reset back to normal as soon as the raid is over. So sure, you can build a wall of desks, but we can blow em up, and they'll be back once we're gone.
Would require a few changes to certain base items, but it's not like anyone would really care.
I would care. I would be infinitely more interested in base raids if everything in them had HP, like a mayhem mission. My god, that would be awesome. And if they all came back after the raid was over, no harm no foul.

In addition I wouldn't mind a NPC assault for base raids.I for one loved doing base raids back in the day. But,hated the fact that all the hard work we did could be destroyed and would require us to rebuild it.
But,still that would be neat you could pick which enemies would invade, the reason why they invaded(destroy your base, kill the defenders, steal an object, etc). In addition get a reward at the end some kind of merit reward or HO or pie.
Maybe if we're lucky, the "difficult tasks to improve level 50 characters" will be CoP/IoP.
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

I can't see Base Raids and CoP with their IoP ever returning until the Summer of 2011. And that's only if GR is a smashing hit.
So... Don't hold your breath.
The Devs' time for other things is scheduled until the Winter of 2010. PvP is a dead end for development since it's not what the majority of players want enough to demand attention or else they'll leave.
Bases need to be fixed for Raiding. Zone PvP needs to be fixed as part of the revamp of PvP that never fully got done. Then the CoP TF needs to be fixed.
Summer of 2011. At least. Maybe.

Base Raid PvE idea.
Set it up as a contact with a timed mission.
Your contact receives intel that your base will be attacked.
You have say, 10-15 minutes to get back to your base to defend it against the intruders.
Obviously, several details would have to be worked out. Whether it would be your actual base, or perhaps, an ally's base (say, Coyote). It makes for a cool concept for a mission.
You have to keep certain items from being destroyed during 3 separate assaults. Better than not know when a base would be attacked.
