I might try that because I have a level 39 necro/dark and I can't stand it. I usually open with Fearsome Stare (I think) and then Darkest Night > Tar Patch and by that point all my zombies are dead, dying or in the wrong mob.
  2. Tankerminding is the best way to solo AV's on a bots/ff I think.

Mine has softcapped defence to all, 60% s/l resists plus bodyguard mode and aid self on top of that so even an AV doesn't hurt me that much.

The fights are always quite long (And I think Statesman is impossible since as soon as he gets down to 25% health he goes on his mad overpowered lightning strike spree and kills all the bots repeatedly until he has healed - a working 'stay' command would fix that, but that's never gonna happen ) but they are very safe and you don't have to resummon that way.

I would have sworn that half the people on the team the other night ran the Posi with me, and your toon name seemed more familiar than just seeing it on the forums, but maybe I am wrong! My apologies!

As for the build I have made a few changes, which annoyingly put the price up massively since I had to get your KB protection from BoTZ, but I have softcapped the S/L:

  5. I think Aid Self is only really useful if you have close to capped defences, because getting interrupted is dangerous and a blaster can't really afford to miss a heal. Otherwise I would think Tough + running away is the best bet when things get hairy.
  6. First thing: That black/purple looks awful on the blue background

Secondly I have looked at the build and have a few comments:

    Powers I wouldn't take -
Nebulous Form has a very long cast time so isn't a good in combat power, and I would get Super Jump if you wanted a travel power.
Essence Drain is a pretty poor power. The heal is nothing compared to Stygian Circle, the damage is poor and the endurance is hefty.

Powers you missed that I would take -
Eclipse!!!!!!!!!!!!!! is one of the best powers in the whole game! This can cap your resistances and recover your endurance. Take it and love it
Gravatic Emanation is a great control power. Fast acting and fairly long lasting you can stun whole groups. The KB is controllable too since it is a cone, so you know where they will end up after you have cast it and can avoid annoying the whole team usually. You may not use it every mob when in a team, but when you do use it you will love it.

    Other comments -
Shadow Cloak's defence supressed when in combat, I am not sure of the exact numbers but it looks like you have aimed for a bit of defence (With Maneuvers etc) and I am not sure how well this will work in practice. I have kept your slotting since I haven't tested it but I am sure someone else can confirm.

I have had a quick play with your build and made the following:

  7. I have had a look at the build and though I am no expert on blasters (and even less of an expert on rad blast) the one thing that does strike me about this combo is the PBAoE potential, with Irradiate, Neutron Bomb (Yes it is ranged but that doesn't stop you casting it at your feet) and Psychic Shockwave (As well as Drain Psyche).

So from first glance I would play this in a blapper style, running in and using a mainly PBAoE attack chain.

Therefore I wouldn't be aiming for ranged defence, but probably either melee or AoE instead.

My first question would be, after using those PBAoEs will you be wanting to use single target attacks or cone attacks? The cones could be used in the middle of the mob to limited effect, or you could jump out, cast the cones and jump back in. This is a playstyle choice that I can't really make for you.

I would also think Electric Mastery lends itself better to the build, because you get the benefit of a T9 style power (Surge of Power instead of Force of Nature) plus you get another cone that can mesh well with your existing ones. If you don't plan on using the cones I think Fire Mastery maybe the next best choice, with RoTP for when you inevitably beat a slow tank into a mob and take an alpha in the face. Lastly as Tonality said you could go with S/L defence, which will do you good but lock you into the Cold Mastery epic which I don't think is as good. I think the Force Mastery pool is overkill on survivability because Force of Nature has a crash, and PFF makes you useless while it is up.

I can definately try and come up with a build, but the choice of cones/single target attacks is key so I won't yet (Or I could even be overplaying how often the PBAoE's should be used). Alternatively I can forget power choices and just have a look at your build with a view to getting better bonus' an tweaking if possible.

Also: Nice to meet you yesterday, and co-incidentally on the Posi TF the day before too
  8. I had another look and you are right, a saturated Drain Psyche will let me overcome any crashes, but I still don't think I will change the build.

Firstly I think I am happy with every power that I have, and secondly I don't really like having my power fluctuate, I would rather be at a certain level of power all the time. If SoP could be made perma on the other hand I would take it in a heartbeat, but that would be overpowered
  9. Thank you all

I don't think I can make such big changes because this will be mainly a PvE character, but I will pop into RV every now and then and if I decide it is worth the investment I might just come back to this thread and try a 2nd build.

Glad to know sonic/mental is decent though.
  10. Well the build is PvE since I don't PvP much, but it would be interesting to hear any advice:

  11. Hi All,

Firstly I only have 10 mins before going home so I haven't looked through any threads yet, but I have recently rolled a Sonic/Mental blaster and I know that blasters are good in PvP so thought I would see how mine might perform.

I have built mainly for PvE so it isn't about build advice, just general performance advice and since I know nothing about PvP rules anything you can say would be appreciated.

Looking at mids I will still have 45% ranged defence, 75% res to all and 115% global recharge, is mids correct in PvP? And is that as good as it sounds?!
  12. Fun: The massive body taunt - It says 'yarr' like a pirate! And will be the inspiration for a tank of mine some day!

I have actually avoided as many of the melee powers as possible. I will run in for Drain Psyche every now and then, but only after putting a mob to sleep first. Otherwise I will be hover-blasting from range and it is working well so far.

If your on a team, it really shouldnt matter much anyways. but solo, you can perma-knock enemies down with it when slotted/bonuses etc.
Yeah I have taken Shockwave in my live build and even at level 12 I love how I have 3 cone attacks and won't need to take another attack until level 41 and Static Discharge I like toons where the playstyle doesn't change too much as you level.

I am not a fan of T9 powers with crashes sadly, I don't really like nukes either for the same reason. I prefer trying to build characters where the level of performance stays steady and I don't have to spend time waiting around. I wish I could get perma-hasten and perma-DP, but I need the defence too much to push for that last difficult bit of recharge.
  14. Welcome to CoX!

My take on blasters is that they are definately better with more experience. When I first started playing I made an Elec/Elec blaster and although I loved him in the early levels I struggled a bit when I hit the 20's and ended up giving up.

Then later on I rolled another blaster after about 6 months experience and enjoyed him all the way to 50. Once I reached 50 however I stopped liking him so he got canned.

Recently I have rolled my third blaster and although he is only level 20 at the moment I expect he will keep his appeal at 50 because with my now 18 months experience I know how to play much better. That and I finally found a power set combo that I love!

Good luck to you whatever you decide to play!
  15. I was just coming here to see if anyone said Warshade, and the last post beat me to it.

All you need is the 4 Nova Attacks, Stygian Circle (Even 1 slotted is amazing) and you are good to go in teams. All your free slots can be used for whatever bonus' you want to aim for.

Plus as above you can have full stealth by that level and Sunless Mire to boost damage. You also have a high damage ST hold for difficult enemies.

Edit: You also mentioned you were thinking about a mid teens toon, and I would say a PB is great for that. Again you only need to slot the 4 Nova attacks and you can mop up several tpes of mobs just street sweeping quite easy in your teens.

Edit 2: I might also throw in a vote for a Sonic/Mental blaster. By 22 you can have slotted stamina, Hasten, Hover/Fly and 3 single target blasts plus 3 cones! That is all the attacks you will ever need, a travel power and hover to keep you out of harms way. You can also have Drain Psyche, which while on a long timer will help you against the bigger targets and will help out if you are struggling for endurance.
  16. The reason I made this toon was because I love cones (My Warshade gave me that love) and the best thing is that at level 12 I already have my full attack chain aside from 1 epic power!

My tactics are definately going to be Sirens Song > Drain Psyche > Cones!

I am not such a fan of the PBAoE's on blasters since I prefer playing them at range and Sonic/Mental lends itself to that wonderfully. I have also managed to softcap the build while still keeping stamina, and increased my ST damage whilst I was at it!

So far I am level 20 and haven't loved a toon so much since I first rolled my Warshade way back when, and she now has a build worth the best part of 5bil I would say.

Here is my revised build for any who may care:

I ran through a Posi TF last night (Braved a PuG and it was great thankfully! So a big well done to all involved!) and I have swapped Amplify for Shockwave (The positions I will pick them up that is), I then realised if I swapped Hover/Fly for Combat Jumping and Superspeed I would be able to turn this character into a great Posi runner! Not that I am going to, but it is another plus point.
  17. I agree that Build Up needs changing for PB's, but I think a longer duration means it needs to give a smaller buff. I would also give it the Fiery Embrace treatment, so it gives big +energy damage and small +other damage.

Photon Seekers don't need -regen, it would be useless on all but AV's. I think a stun would be better, maybe mag 1 per seeker, or mag 1.5 so a boss can be stunned if all 3 hit.

Eclipse is so great I am afraid every single day it is going to be nerfed, adding anything will never happen. Though I think a good -regen power is the only thing stopping Warshades from reliably soloing AV's, so I would sadly have to say no
  18. I am loving my Sonic/Mental too!

It is my 2nd blaster after a Fire/Nrg which I didn't really enjoy and the way it is going at the moment may become my favourite toon!

The thing I love the most is that by level 12 I already have all the attacks I am going to take until the epic pools, including 3 single target attacks and 3 cones. Then as I go up in levels all that happens is I get stronger and stronger but the playstyle stays the same.

Managed to get to 20 last night and every mission makes me enjoy him more and more

I plan on using this build for pretty much everything so want versatility over specialisation.

I solo quite a lot, and intend to be able to solo at least +0/x8, but I also run an awful lot of TF's and will be using this there too. I don't really like nukes without an instant recovery power, especially on toons that use toggles.

My aim was survivability, plus a good single target attack chain for AV's (Which I may even try and solo - though I know the build isn't designed for it having no heal) and a good chain using the 3 cones for the larger groups.

Sorry I pasted it right out of a different forum! I am in the middle of an MoSTF at the moment but will change the colour when I finish.

You are right it does look awful!

  21. I only need to hit 1 target with Drain Psyche to get enough endurance, so I think in theory it is doable if I pick on a straggler. I am not so worried about the danger, but more the practicality of if I can be bothered to do it all the time. But then I think a fully saturated Drain Psyche will make me very tough so is probably worth doing.

Either way I have made a third build, with better AoE defence at the expense of some unnecessary (I think) recharge:

Siren's Song is the power that suffers, but even with just the 1 slot it should be good enough to open with against +0/x8 when solo to let me get a good Drain Psyche in.
  22. I am not sure if it is really possible to use Drain Psyche to keep up my endurance, but if it is I can drop the Fitness pool for the Leadership pool which gets me to the magic 45% ranged defence(Though I would love to find 4 slots to get some more AoE defence):

    Farming Warshade

I know we always like to slot Eclipse different anyway, in this case I might agree with your slotting, since you are right you don't always need to max eclipse. I just know that for farming the less chance of death the better, so thought it was probably worth it for this specific circumstance.

And I know that the 90s you have of Eclipse doesn't seem to last anywhere near as long as the 90s wait for it to come back up again after you die!
  24. Hi Blasters!

First thing I should say is that I have only really played one blaster in my 18 months (Fire/Nrg), and although I loved the journey to 50 once he got there he felt too squishy and hasn't been played since, even though I did once invest several billion into him.

Now I thought it was time for another blaster, and hopefully I want one that can stay alive long enough to actually do something, my other toons are played because they hardly ever die, so death is something I would rather avoid.

That said I know it is possible to go too overboard on the survivability side and miss out on key aspects (IE: Damage!) so without talking too much more can anyone help on the below build:

Of course if there is a better attack chain I am missing them feel free to educate me! I am level 1 at the moment so all this is just inspiration to make the journey to 50.
