Suggestions on a new MM
I have played Necro/Dark to 38 and Bots/Bubbles to 50 so although I do have experience of both primaries I am probably not the best source of info:
Robotics: The easiest of the sets to learn, since all the pets stay at range and therefore in range of buffs, heals and anything PBAoE. This means they pair well with Traps (Staying with FFG's bubble), Force Field (Staying within Dispersion Bubble), Pain Domination (For the heal aura), and Thermal (Again the heal aura). Though they can be made awesome with any combo I think these are the best/most natural.
The T3 pet is where it is at for bots, and the Assault Bot is going to cause ~70% of your damage if not more (Educated guesswork). His big hitter is a large swarm of missiles that leaves a burn patch on the ground and anything that stays in that patch long enough burns to death very quickly. The key to leveraging that damage is having an immob with -KB. This is where /traps works well, as does the Mu Mastery pool.
Bubbles and Traps go particularly well, since the T2 pets cast their own bubbles which can be enhanced to ~11% defence to all. They double bubble each other and single bubble you, so it is pretty easy to have all your bots softcapped using either secondary.
Necromancy: I found this much harder than bots because of the need for your pets to be in melee range, which is more dangerous than staying at range and kept them out of the range of Twighlight Grasp all too often (Or should I say they would seemingly deliberately run out of range whenever I tried to cast it!). The T2 pets are where you get your damage from, and these are the pets that need to be kept in melee, though they have a ranged attack that they like using too often meaning you often have to make them move into melee.
The T3 pet is a debuffer rather than a damage dealer, but will help keep your T2 pets safer. Sadly in my personal experience even him and Fluffy and /Dark debuffs didn't do enough to stop my pets dying and I have almost given up on this toon. So there may be more playstyle related advice needed for zombies.
The secondaries I think go well are /dark (Thematic and extra debuffs to compliment the T3 pet) and Thermal (Resistance shields for resistance based pets + heals). Though again all secondaries can probably be made to work.
Thats about it from me, I hope if I am wrong or have missed anything out I am corrected soon enough.

I've run a couple bots and necro to 50 and they are both really good sets.
Bots are very self sufficient and work very well with all the secondaries, though poison is prolly the least synergy. /dark, /traps, and /TA have the best synergy with bots (i didn't include /FF since you already have one.
Necro is a very unique set and very different from bots. They recently went through a few IO set changes that has given them a lift in potential. The pets do a wide variety of dmg (dark, smash, lethal, toxic) and great debuffs/Control.
I have a necro/dark at 50 that is very powerful against tough single targets (EBs/AVs), but necro doesn't really leverage all that /dark has to offer. the debuffs and controls stack since you have most of the same, but the heal isn't very well suited to melee pets, and the resists that /dark offers only fills in the energy hole on the zombies and nothing else.
Necro/therm or Necro/Pain is a much better choice. the +resists combined with the heals make it much easier to keep your zombies alive, and the controls and debuffs from Necro/ fills in the holes that /therm and /pain lack.
I'm running a Necro/Therm right now that is pretty badass at 30, and still has a lot of growing to do.
My recommendations for Necro/ is to make sure you get all 4 pets aura IOs, the cloud senses proc in the lich, and the achilles heel proc in the grave knights.
Level 50s: to many to remember at this point
I have a bots/ff and nec/dark at 50. I absolutely love the nec/dark and and don't mind the bots/ff (but it's very lazy to run, imo - I prefer to be kept busy).
Both have massive potential, and I don't find either needs re-summoning constantly. As others have said, /nec isn't the toughest of primaries and I do find myself re-casting them every now and then. I don't find this a problem - as I've said to MMs I've teamed with that won't buff or heal their team-mates, but will do this to their henchies, 'the beauty of being a MM is that you can re-summon your henchies'. In a heated battle, this can be an issue with /nec, but with insp this can be managed. With /ff, of course, you just hit PFF and run to safety. I find /ff a very low-risk set (and with /bots, a very effective one), but I enjoy the thrill of playing my nec/dark
I have a lvl 38 necro/dark and she just tears through stuff for the most part.
the best thing i did was bind a button with
petcom_pow grave goto aggressive
which sends my grave knights to a spot in aggro mode, then i just run in after them throwing down a tar patch, everyone else moves in and the zombie apocalypse begins

I might try that because I have a level 39 necro/dark and I can't stand it. I usually open with Fearsome Stare (I think) and then Darkest Night > Tar Patch and by that point all my zombies are dead, dying or in the wrong mob.

Nothing wrong with goto/aggressive, by the way -- but since I'm usually right on top of the melee pets anyway (to keep them in Twilight Grasp radius), I like them automatically bouncing back to Bodyguard if I don't sic'em on someone else. My Lich just stays on defensive/follow most of the time, though on tricky spawns I'll direct him at the mobs my melee pets aren't working on.
I currently have a Thugs/FF MM and i really love it. I was thinking about making a new MM. Either a Necro or Bots. So two questions really.
.
1. How does Necro play out in the long run and what works well paired with it?
2. Same question but with Bots.
I tend to solo alot and ive seen people post they are able to take down huge mobs easily once they get in the upper thirties. So i guess thats what id like to do.
Builds would be nice, however, they arnt needed
