Wish I could respec from Bots FF to Bots Traps
I hate it when that happens.
I wish there was a way to earn a Primary/Secondary/AT respec. I think that would be groovy as hell.. The low level content wouldn't get so old.
Bots/Traps will make you forget your past woes, worry not
One of Us. One of Us.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I have a 50 Robot FF respeced and used for Base raids and some odd PvP at the time.
I have Teleport foe, Detention, Force bubble. I would stand off the corner at the end of a narrow hallway. My bubble would block the hallway with the repel for some, others used enough Insp to break through the repel bubble. Thats when the brute would pound on them. I would use the bots pretty much as cannon fodder in the hallway I would block. And of course use TP foe to isolate more troublesome players, EG Healers, Big dps guys.
Sadly that guild is gone and I don't even remember the name of the guild or the players in it. Heck I don't even know if anyone does base raids anymore.
Nutshell I think I will have to reroll one. They seem to be as much fun when they first came out till today. Where as Robot FF or any ** /FF build is obvious the only 2 builds in the sticky are from 04 and 05.
Force Field is nice for Defense and solo Force bubble is great, as not many can break through and I force bolt anything that sneeks in. So any Melee DPS is done NPC wise.
But I always read the cool things done with Traps

As for the OP, you cannot respec into different powersets. You have to make another character for that. Balance issues and what-not. Changing AT's would be a living Nightmare. It's also difficult to explain how a Dual Blades scrapper magically transformed into a Spine Scrapper, losing all knowledge of Dual Blades. And how does a super-strong Tanker transform into a low-HP blaster?
Imagine leveling up a Scrapper to level 50, then respecing to become a controller. You're so used to playing a scrapper, that you'd end up not knowing what your powers weak and strong points are for your controller. This would create noob pandemonium, with new players respecing from tankers to blasters and so forth, not knowing how to use their powers and having to drastically change their playstyle to fit the new At/powerset.
In short, you can't do that because it would be potentially game-breaking.

Got Inf?
Bots/Traps can work in PvP, but it depends who you are fighting. Some people make builds that are simply bot killers. I know I had some bad experiences in RV.

Is /FF really that inferior? My first 50 (and most consistently used character) is a bots/forcefield, which I built because I didn't like the look of traps. I've never had serious issues with him, and find I get lots of team cudos for the defence buffs and hefty knockback.
Its true that the guides could use some revamping... hmm...

I need to respec my build back to a PvE build though.
But that being said I don't think I could go the AV killer route that many do with /Traps.
I have fought AV's and won but was a long tough fight. Which included me having to PFF and run away to resummon bots. Again that is what I can recall, I have been away for over a year so who knows what it is like now.

Cascade, level 50 Blaster (NRG/NRG since before it was cool)
Mechmeister, level 50 Bots / Traps MM
FAR too many non-50 alts to name

Tankerminding is the best way to solo AV's on a bots/ff I think.
Mine has softcapped defence to all, 60% s/l resists plus bodyguard mode and aid self on top of that so even an AV doesn't hurt me that much.
The fights are always quite long (And I think Statesman is impossible since as soon as he gets down to 25% health he goes on his mad overpowered lightning strike spree and kills all the bots repeatedly until he has healed - a working 'stay' command would fix that, but that's never gonna happen ) but they are very safe and you don't have to resummon that way.
British by act of union, English by grace of God, Northern by pure good fortune!
It does get pretty dull sometimes. I was hoping for something interesting from the patron pools, but that was a bit of a disappointment. Mayhaps that could be something to suggest as a future revision to FF? I know there are several powers that almost everyone skips over that could be reworked into something that makes the powerset a bit more active (*cough*repulsion bomb*cough*). Keep the set defensive-focused (and balanced!) but just give the MM something to do aside from watch, you know?
I think /Cold is the dev's way of making up for /FF. By the time they realised /FF needed changing there were probably too many people using it to make such big changes, so they just created a new set.
I can't wait for a Bots/Cold

You can't respec the power choices correct ?
