I've read that slotting a Membrane into Active Defense will improve your defense de-buff resistance. When I tried it in game the stats monitor did not reflect any improvement. It stayed exactly the same.
Did I do something wrong? Does this actually work and if it does wouldn't an Enzyme work better?
Thanks for the help. -
Ughh, that'll teach me to search first. I found the answer. Sorry for the post.

I'm brand new to brutes and I have a quick question about the fury mechanics.
Does a brute have to be successfully attacked to gain fury or can an attack on him/her miss and still build fury? If the attack has to succeed how does /SR stack up when it's softcapped? It would seem to be rather undesirable.
Thanks in advance. -

Do not resist. Instead, embrace your dark side. Get to know it. Be real good, chummy friends with this thing that was always there. Lurking in the shadows like an old friend, embarrassed to show it's face.
It's not an embarrassment. It can be an ally.
All you have to do is join us. Come to the dark side. Feed your inner darkness' hunger for evil deeds. And maybe... maybe, one day when you're ready... You can feed it something more.
But we'll wait for you to figure out what it wants. What it needs. These small, tiny acts of evil are enough to help it along for now.
Embrace the evil. One little bit at a time.

You sir, are my new best friend! -
My moral compass doesn't like villains very much.
In fact personally I think the world has enough GTA in it for real. I have no interest in beating up cops, burning down schools or stealing medical supplies from hospitals. This attitude earns me the occasional sneer from you villainous types but I'm ok with that. You're Bad Guys, who cares what you think.
So for over three years I have played Blue. Played Blue, played Blue, and played moar Blue. I've played every single bit of Blue that I care to, I think. I am, in fact, bored stoopid with this game but I keep playing because they keep adding so many damn cool things. But no matter how much I keep playing Blue, part of me glances a bit sideways when no ones looking at Brutes. And maybe Masterminds... Once I looked at a Dominator too I guess...with a little...envy.
And then in my darkest night. As my brain struggled to derive some measure of entertainment from this Blue Game I have loved so much for three years.
A miracle.
So! In preparation for my upcoming salvation I gritted my teeth and rolled a BRUTE!
Well! I can tell you I found it quite unsavory. For a bit. I did have a kickass costume that's true. My concept was starting to come together too! A Cyber/Monk techno martial artist from the future! Well, sort of coming together anyway...
So I took the first mercenary job I could get (something about beating up old people at the local home I think, I don't really remember), and I took a look around at the city I was in.
Holy crap does that look good. Not just sorta good. Really good. Sure my framerates on max setting have dropped from 60 to 30 but 30's cool. The enemies are fresh. I never saw these snake guys before. Smash, Crash, Dead snakes! Level up! Train, Bone Smasher? Now? This early? Hellz yaeh! Next mission. Beat up Arachnos? No problemo! Been doing it for years. Hmm some Longbow over there...Ahh what the hell that Ms. Liberty was always so feckin' "Barbie" anyway. OK, what now? Kidnap homeless for medical experiments?
...
Uhmm. Well, I guess two homeless really aren't that big a deal.
You know what I said to the last one as I threw his @ss in the van?
"You shoulda got a job junkie!"
Oh hell, what have I gotten myself into? -
This is my 50 DM/SD
Saint October!
I'll most likely tweak this on some more but I'm pretty pleased with it so far.
Thanks for looking! -

Let me start off by saying that I apologize for grandstanding here a bit. I know some folks enjoy hearing the exploits of other scrappers ( I know I really enjoy hearing about other's triumphs ), and frankly I am just bursting with pride over this victory.
I killed Lord Recluse today.
If you have ever fought him with serious intent you know what his biggest hurdle is. He has an attack that shuts off your recovery totally. A few seconds after it lands your toggles drop, your mitigation tanks and your dead. Sometimes he hits me with it early, sometimes I get him to half way and he does it three damn times in 5 minutes, but he has always hit me with it. On the rare occasion where I was in good shape to deal with it, having both Dark Consumption and Conserve Power available, he just does it again later and kills me.
In fact I had really stopped trying to defeat him.
Today I went in rather casually, not really expecting much of anything other than repeated trips to the hospital and I got him on the second try. I don't know if his recovery attack needs to hit and I just managed to stay out of it's way the whole fight or if it's auto-hit and he just didn't use it. Whatever the case when he was under 50% I started to sit up and pay closer attention. I had never had him to 25% so I didn't know what to expect.
I started laughing at the absurdity of it when he spawned so many helpers. I knew I was saturated now but jeebus I couldn't be more than a second or two from face planting.
And then he died.
I'll add a video to this when it's done. Thanks for looking.
Video is up. -
Really a wonderful tool for this community. Thanks so much for giving us so much Mid and thank you Steiner for all your future efforts!

As Powerforge just pointed out, had I had aidself when I soloed the ITF, I could have finished it. Autohit fluffy be damned.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ha! Ya know, I need to try that again myself. I never realized that the Nictus could be separated from Romulus until Nihilii did it so I was stumped at that point too. I really have no idea if I could use Aid Self to survive though. It would take forever to drop one since it never misses that attack. Hitting Aid Self over and over would really put the hurt on my DPS. -
Hi Moonlighter!
My personal opinion on the matter is that it's not required but you will be able to do more, more reliably with it.
What you said in you're original post is very important though.
[ QUOTE ]
I kept thinking to myself "Wow what I could do if I didn't need to take take Aid Self."
[/ QUOTE ]
What are you giving up to take Aid Self? What are your goals with your build?
Solo a pylon? You'll do fine! I never solo pylons with Aid Self. The goal is speed. Aid Self tanks your DPS.
RWZ Challenge?
You're good without it, if you play SMART and have other tools at your disposal.
Solo AVs?
You'll do fine. On many AVs you can get away without it if your regen is good, but again, you have to play SMART.
Solo two AVs?
...could be tricky. I've not heard of it being done yet but that doesn't mean it hasn't been done or that it's impossible.
For my concept there is absolutely no reason to skip it. It meshes very well with my tech theme and backstory. It also allows me to push the character into scenarios I would NOT survive without it.
But it may be different for you.
It really just depends on how far you want to try to take your survivability, at what point you feel you can stay alive well enough, and what sacrifices you feel you are making to take the power. -
Really nice work Bill! Thanks for taking the time to do this, very useful for all of us!
-
That whole arc feels like it was created just as an excuse to throw AVs at you to me.
"What? Statesman wasn't there? Well go try that dungeon then."
In the beginning it might have been ok just for the novelty of having an arc that had a bunch of high level challenges in it but I think people expect more quality story telling now. If MArc did one thing it was to show how good a story arc can be. I'd love it if someone would rewrite A Hero's Hero. -
Everything you've been told is right.
My favorite scrapper usually gets built around concept really. Just about any powerset combination works well. If I have a fun backstory and I like his costume it's a go!
If I had to choose just one based on the playability of the sets alone I'd go with my DM/SD at the moment but he's just newer to me. My Claws/SR is right behind him. -
Sounds like that's all it was. Sometimes you just have to keep at it. Shadowhunter is a respectable AV too.
I had a similar experience with Chimera not too long ago. He just kept getting lucky over and over. Or maybe I had just been lucky over and over previously. At any rate don't get discouraged after three tries, you can do it! -

So this set me to wondering about this whole issue. Maybe some people haven't gotten the idea that they can't run these missions at the same difficulty levels they do regular content, maybe they hate the idea of having to admit their builds aren't so uber or something and toning it down. There certainly are cases of people building bosses that are way tough, I was fighting some with an MM this morning that rezzed and drained End that were just too much (still survived them all though. Like normal combat, some builds or ATs or level ranges are just going to flat out be BAD at facing certain types of foes in MA. I kind of think it's up to the player to know their limits and not the MA creator's fault for not tailoring the arc to them. If any squishie could solo an arc, not many would be much of a challenge, which is what some people are creating and playing them for (not me, but some do).

Soooo TRUE!
I couldn't agree with this sentiment more. Well put sir. -
