Bare legs (aside from Robin in particular being a stylized circus gymnast or something along those lines) illustrated immaturity in comparison to the fully-clothed mentor hero.

The ****-erotic aspect of things didn't really enter anybody's head until society's mores changed over the course of a few generations.
Not at all. You have to understand that Robin first appeared in Detective Comics #38, in April 1940. It was pretty common for heroes of the Golden Age to have bare legs. Here are just a few.

  4. As an example, I give you an Aran (Irish) knit sweater.

The sweater itself could be plain, with the Aran pattern one of several which could be applied to it.

    Oh yeah!!!

In City of Bewbies, the spandex fits between the breasts like a glove between fingers on a hand. In this picture, where the yellow vertical stripe is in front is like a deep chasm between two mountains.

In real life, there is a bit of a depression between the breasts, but it's like a slight dip in the road.

    Hope this helps.

Actually, that illustration is of what's called "boxer briefs." Boxer briefs and regular briefs are still variations of trunks. As a kid, I wore swim trunks of a style that looked a LOT like the trunks Hogan is wearing. It would actually be good to have both styles available, as the boxer brief style was used a lot in Golden Age costumes.

And tights -are- leg coverings. From dictionary.com:

    1. a skin-tight, one-piece garment for the lower part of the body and the legs, now often made of stretch fabric, originally worn by dancers, acrobats, gymnasts, etc., and later made for general wear for adults and children.

    2. a leotard with legs and, sometimes, feet.

One other thing. May I enter a plea for multiple layers on tights tops and bottoms, so we can use a pattern and another layer over it, like wide stripes and stars over them, on the legs, like on Statesman's costume? Pweeeeeze! Yes, there would be some combinations that were total train wrecks, but we already have some train wreck combos, so it's really up to the players how they use them.

    Tights!

Firstly, the Andre the Giant outfit is a version of a singlet. Tights are what cover the legs, and Andre's legs are bare. Likewise, Hogan is in trunks, not tights.

    Now, to my wish list...

Flat color slightly looser tights that don't show muscle definition, to simulate the cotton-style outfits available in the '30s and '40s, perhaps even with a slightly loose sleeve option, as below...

Longer tops that go down past the top of the pants, that can have belts over them if desired, to make longer tights tops or tunics (if longer)... If this is done with a "skirt" type overlay option for male/huge costumes to extend the line of the shirt, have the colors and textures match please.

Plain belts (cloth/leather/metallic) of different widths, with buckle options PLEASE, for maximum variation, to separate tights tops and bottoms...

Textures such as scales and chainmail for tights tops and male "skirt" overlays, to be able to make scale or chainmail hang down past the belt, as below...

    More to come.

    Sooo....Coyotes.

If we can have a coyote, they had BETTER have a badge somewhere with a pseudo-Latin title he can have under his name.

By contrast, silver age costumes should look less home made and more streamlined, perhaps even made from that miraculous new stuff, plastic! What had been just one of many origin types -- Science! -- was now the norm, and in general their composition should reflect the highly polished, jet age style of the future. ("The future of 1963," as seen in McCloud's Zot!.)
Although that is true for a certain segment of the hero population (Doc Savage and the like) who sported street clothes or similarly "ordinary" outfits with just a few accessories which made them into costumes, there were also a LOT of tights-wearing heroes. Superman's costume was originally modeled on a circus strongman outfit. I would like to see mask, glove, and boot options which match the "Tights Smooth" texture, which can look very Golden Age with just a little attention.

And let's not forget jet packs/rocket packs. In the Golden Age, it was the Rocketeer. In the Silver Age, it was Adam Strange.

That being said, let me cast another vote for jet packs/rocket packs which are permanent costume pieces, only animating when the power is activated.
  10. And now for my wish list:

Full Masks (cowls): two tone tops and bottoms -- also emblems on foreheads

Hats: No hair, so they can be placed over full head masks

Chest Emblems: Able to be made smaller and relocated to upper corner of chest, such as where a badge sits on a police uniform - similar to the placement already available on jackets -- also able to be layered without having to use the "emblem" option, so we can use the emblem/symbol combination on patterns

Baggy Tops: Sweaters with long sleeves which can be left down or pushed up - Specifically, textured (Irish Aran sweaters) or patterned sweaters

Bandoliers/Harnesses: Ones that actually reach the belt and/or attach TO the belt on the sides, aka Hawkman or Martian Manhunter - The ones now are WAY too high on the sides and look stupid

Belt: wide sash, please -- also, plain belts without segmenting, which have a variety of buckle options...plain round, plain oval, plain rectangle, emblems (same as chest emblems - I would LOVE a Liberty Bell buckle such as Ms. Liberty wears) -- military dress belt (over jackets) with attached baldric (diagonal shoulder strap)

T-shirts: the ability to use patterns such as on tights

Tights: trunks with tights patterns at the same time

Boots: Not just flat across the top - V top, peaked top - stripes across the tops of boots and cuffs of gloves - thin stripes and thick stripes - the thin stripes would look a lot like the tops of the rubber gloves currently available -- short boots, mid shin and ankle boots - both kinds with and without cuffs -- short boots with flared tops (ala classic Robin) -- short boots with curled toes (Arabian Nights style) -- Short boots in different styles for female characters, please...with FLAT soles

Jodhpurs: REAL ones - I was HUGELY PO'd when I bought the Steampunk pack ONLY for the advertised jodhpurs and found what was listed as jodhpurs was actually MODERN, current day equestrian pants and not even Steampunk era at all

Jackets: Along with jodhpurs, uniform jackets with belts that go over them

(I have a Nazi villain who desperately needs both the jacket/belt and the jodhpurs)

Uniform Jacket, belt with baldric, jodhpurs (riding breeches)

That should do it for now.

Then you'd be very much incorrect. Golden Age is from the earliest comics of the '30s to the mid '50s, generally recognized as ending with the first "reimagining" of a Golden Age hero. The new version of DC Comics' Flash first appeared in Showcase comics #4, October 1956.

The Silver Age is generally agreed to have lasted from then until about 1970, when the general message of selfless heroism and confidence started to be replaced by heroes with problems and self-doubt.
  12. Y'know... An OOC comment now and again, about how you know this character is being a jerk, but it's all OOC, and thanking the other players for being part of the RP, can make all the difference.

    Just a thought.

I have a villain character than I took Rogue, so he could come to Paragon City and tease the heroes. As he's a law abiding citizen in Paragon City and has no warrants outstanding, there's nothing they can do. We have some great discussions about their characters during and after RP sessions, and the way it makes them feel RPing them with such an aggrivating character and basically feeling helpless to do anything about him.

BTW, the character is a Nazi superweapon type, left over from WWII, so the patriotic American heroes get it worse than most, especially if they have any connection to WWII themselves. As my two characters in my main SG are both red, white, and blue American patriotic types, it gives me a chance to do a 180 from my usuall arr pee, which can be great fun.

Actually, the inspiration is the Greek Corinthian helmet, from which the barbute (a much later Italian design) was derived. Although most versions look like the CoH/V Valkyrie faceplate in front, many were shorter and looked a lot like States' faceplate.

By the way, I'd like to put a good word in for a loyalty item...the Freedom Corps uniform pattern, so I can outfit my Longbow characters in an official uniform finally, rather than the knockoff they've had to wear for so long.

  15. Just one question...

    Who is Choplin?

    Do you mean Frédéric Chopin?

    Do you mean Scott Joplin?

Did the two of them have a child we never knew about?
  16. Make him Technology based. That ought to confuse people.

Actually, if "God" (with a capital g) exists as part of our natural universe, he might well fall under the Arthur C. Clarke quote,

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
  17. No special themed contest for Thursday, seeing as Friday the 11th is Veterans' Day? How about making Thursday a special military themed contest in honor of those who've served our country?

    Just a thought...
  18. If you have any "classic" style characters (Golden Age to early Silver Age of comics; retro (Rocketeer) or spandex costumes; up to early 1960's style selfless hero types), check out our website. The link is in my .sig for the Golden Age Heroes SGs. We also have some great coalition partners if our groups aren't a perfect fit.

  20. Gee... How silly of me. I just HAPPENED to have an Oompa Loompa costume saved in my costume files. I wonder how that happened.

Just a thought, but everyone should give their character a normal first name, and follow it with Oompa Loompa as if that was their last name...such as "Steve Oompa Loompa" or "Tom Oompa Loompa." Yeah, I guess I gave this way too much thought. Right... I get it... *nodding*

  21. Hey, Mystic Fortune and Arcanaville, check your inboxes! I found Chronocraft and Lady Arcana both free and parked characters on them. Awaiting good times to delete the placeholders, so you can have your names.

    Out of curiosity

If you happen to have a character hanging around the Atlas statue, look for members of the Golden Age Heroes SGs. We have folks around there fairly often. A couple of us had our mains standing next to Ms. Lib the other day when a stranger came up and started totally cold contact IC roleplaying. It was great. Eventually a member of one of our coalition partner SGs came up as well as another member of our SG and we had quite a time. Before we finished, we ended up giving two heroes who were new to Paragon City guided tours of our base and lots of (IC) helpful hints on getting settled in.

Golden Age Heroes SGs are: Gods of the Golden Age, Young Gods of the Golden Age, and New Gods of the Golden Age

You can see our website at the link in my .sig. We're always looking for new friends.
  23. Well, if you have any "classic" style heroes (Golden Age or early Silver Age of comics), check out this link for the Golden Age Heroes SGs. We have four groups, currently, as well as some great coalition partners.

Gods of the Golden Age - Main group for classic heroes
Young Gods of the Golden Age - Teen/Young adult heroes
New Gods of the Golden Age - Reformed Villains/Rogues who have turned hero
    and
League of Sinister Intent - Redside (villlain) group (with some predictably being RPd as GAH groups' members' arch nemesis types)

    Gods Protect! (<---our slogan)

Yummy, vanilla! I wonder who had to lick the envelope to find that out.

Actually, not to be picky, but I think that should be MANILA.

    Carry on.
