Dear Virtue,

So I was putzing around on the beta server, like ya do, and decided to try out the coyote travel power.

It's quite fun, I can imagine we'll be seeing a lot of them running around in pocket D shortly, doubtless with notes in their bios that say stuff like ((Coyote is actually a twelve foot long dire wolf that shoots black lightning out of its eyes. Also has pixie wings.))

One thing kinda struck me as odd, though I can see why they would do it for balance issues:

Coyote travel has the same basic move buff as ninja run. Coyotes in paragon city can jump forty feet straight into the air.

So...yeah.

<3,

...No.

I like actually being able to fight while in ninja and beast run. This is kinda lame. Besides, they could have at least given them a wolf or a fox and not a damn coyote.

I can kind of see why you wouldn't be able to attack stuff in coyote form. Just imagine a coyote running around with a titan weapon clenched in its jaws, jumping up in the air "little mac" style to smack people around with it.

No, wait. That would actually be awesome.

Yeah, I vote awesome.

Can someone educate me why we are getting a "coyote" travel power? Does it have something to do with the Outbreak starting zone going away? It just seems so random otherwise.

People will pay money for it.

If they thought enough people would pay money for a rocket-propelled wheelchair travel power, they'd probably build it.

I'll buy it.

I'll buy it seven times.

I understand that philosophy, but is this something people were clamoring for? Coyotes?

It's also possible that there is an animal pet MM primary in the works. Imagine you as a player being a coyote and running in the streets with 6 other animals. Concept wise could be wide open for druids, shape-shifting indians, ect.

Again, good points, but when they decided to do this, someone had to decide what animal to use. I'm just wondering, why a coyote instead of say, a wolf, a fox, a panther, a polar bear, a... wolverine?

My only issue with these new vanity and cool stuff. Everyone is going to use them at once, thus stopping you from having a creative character with that stuff. Gotta wait a month at least for the hype to die before looking a bit more normal.

I went to beta to check it out as well.

Meh.

It's fast, true, and it jumps like Combat Jumping, only higher.

But at idle? That Coyote is HYPER. Way too many emote changes. Needs a valium. Also, spinning in place is wholly unnatural, moreso than the human form, by a lot.

I think I'd just spend my points elsewhere, as there are better uses. I like my ninja/beast modes better.

/it IS cute though.
//I left my new beta tester in there near Liberty, in Coyote form, after using the Vet Jump Pack to get Top Dog as her title.

Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012

It's funny that several people in this thread have implied (in one way or another) that the Coyote travel power is either too fast and/or can jump too high.

Several weeks ago when this power was first introduced on the beta server it ran a good deal slower and jumped much less high. It was -almost- like a real coyote in terms of its abilities. Thing is a bunch of people started whining that it "sucked" that way as a travel power and that they would never buy it because they considered it to be the "worst" travel power like that.

I suppose this is just yet another example of how the Devs will never be able to please everyone.

I haven't tested it, but it sure as hell better include a temporary hover power that triggers when you run off the edge of a tall building, combined with a running-while-suspended-in-space-before-your-body-falls-away-followed-by-your-head-as-you-wave-goodbye animation or I'll never buy it!

If the Devs had any sense of humor they'd create another travel power that makes our characters look like this:

and let us run like 200 mph.

Might be. It's as good an explaination as any. There's also the link to Native-American shapeshifting into coyote-form that the Devs might have been inspired by as well.

We already know we're getting a Black Wolf pet via the upcoming Super Packs and they might have other types of animals planned for other future uses. Ultimately using the coyote (a 4 legged dog-like form) for this power was probably practical for multiple reasons.

That was my assumption in my first post in this thread. As far as I know, they never moved the train Coyote after they closed down Outbreak, but I could be mistaken.
