Have wer got a full list of changes some place?
PS the EU page still list "Two More Mission Architect Tutorial Videos Released!" as the last news item -
It gets much worse than that on real cheap PSUs, they often don't have any protection and will happly go over load becoming very unstable untill things die.
IF this problem is PSU related then automatically shutting down is a good sign, IF this is PSU related then it's not some el-cheapo PSU and by turning it's self off it's shouldn't damage other components.
But again, unless we have more info about the pc this speculation is just that.
It's a bit like trying to diganose a medical condition from the statement "I feel a bit ill" -
Power issues can also be causing this, as the load on both the cpu & graphics card increase so does the power demand.
This also increases heat within the PSU which again lowers the ability to output the power load (both the levels of power and the stability of voltages/amps)
This can cause over current protection or voltage protection within the PSU to cut in and switch it self off.
To diagnose the exact cause we'd need to know a lot more about your pc -
I am looking forward to it, have been looking forward to a mission editor ever since playing Ryzom (the mission editor in that is nothing short of amazing but hellishly complex)
However I'm not holding my breath yet, what I've seen heard so far the actual editor it's self is still a bit too simple.
Great for the concept of story telling but very few people stop to read the mission briefings, esp in team situations.
However I can also see it having scope to get better with more work put in.
Will have to wait and see when it comes out (I have a few ideas kicking about in my head already, the question is will they be possible with what we get) -
Not CoH/V related but today I made snow pacman

Still think the rarest combo must be the troller that illusion master mentioned a year or so back. Storm/Kin or something similar iirc - so rare that I still haven't seen one yet (though give power proliferation a couple of years and I suppose it's just possible...)
[/ QUOTE ]
Emp/Storm Defender it was
[/ QUOTE ]emp/storm??? that's primary/primary! I call shenanigans!
in all seriousness.
It depends on the level, you see are far larger range of sets at low level than you do at high level.
I think the rarest set high level are the non-healing/non-debuffing defenders, esp Trick arrow, Force field and sonic resonance.
ok TA is a debuffer but it's patch based and in the higher levels mobs tend to die too fast, coupled with the longer recharges it means the defbuffs are not ready for the next mob.
A friend of mine has basically given up one his 40ish TA/archary, he said it feels too much like a lose wheel, the occasional debuff and a 2nd rate blaster impression (defenders damage does fall off noticeably in the 40s)
Granted I've managed to get my sonic/elec defender up to 44 (I think or might be 47) But they are tough going in the 40s, the damage fall off is noticable solo and there's not much call for them.
Pre-20's a sonic defender can make a big impact on a team's survivability.
However I think force field defenders are the rarest of all.
I would sudgest Force field/Archery as a good set, none too common but the two should work well together, one of the best things about this combo is that the nuke power doesn't drain all your end so you can keep the large bubble and other toggles still running
It's one thing that annoies me about sonic/elec if I use my nuke then I drop my toggle buff and debuff and I don't tend to do enough damage to drop mobs to 50% hp let alone kill them
PS if you're used to playing defenders esp emp's then ether type of bubble defender is going to be a shock, once you've bubbled every up you've nothing left to do but attack, none of this staying out of trouble while spam healing, you'll be with the blasters dishing out damage and pulling agro. -
I really don't know what to say here, only found out about this today.
Rockjaw, Aero and Kerensky, you'll all be sorely missed, in many ways you 3 where the "face" of ncsoft for us.
Esp at the next bristol con for myselfI hope you find new employment you enjoy as much as you seemed to enjoy being part of the EU CoH/NCsoft team.
Please pass on my hope and support to Bridger as well, I remember him being so fired up about moveing from the community moderator side onto the development side of things and now it seems to have colapsed.
With the games developing industry being as nepotistic as it is, I'm sure he'll find a new job with the experience he has.
Good luck to you all, it's a sad day and it'll be a steep job for thoes remaining to keep up the levels of passion for the game and keeping our passions in check on these forums. -
No the PhysX driver is part of the 177.39 drivers
And yes it's set to GeForce.
I have it working, just not in CoH
I'm prepaired to wait for a patch/non-beta drivers, I was more wondering if this will ever happen? if anyone knows of someone who had got it working in coh or if the dev's had said anything about it.
I've had a quick search but found nothing. -
Javing just got a 9800gtx I though I'd have a go with the beta drivers (177.39 beta) to get physx to work on the card (as I know my 17" screen resolution is not stressing it)
got the drivers installed fine no problems there, physx seems to be running on the card fine and I can run the physx demos ok.
But in CoH the PhysX option is still greyed out.(I don't what to set the physics partical setting to max as I need the cpu to feed this monster of a card)
I'm Just wonder if:
1- Anyone has got PhysX working off the graphics card?
2- Is this not supported yet by coh?
3- Will it be?
4- is it already supported and working, just not telling me it's running? -
Yep Miss_Chief has it almost right
that motherboard is a 945 chip set which is pritty pants. (cannot even run the memory at it's stock 800mhz speed)
up the price by £30 (£60-70) and get a decent p35 chipset motherboard
eg
MSI P35 Neo2-FR
or
ASUS P5KC AiLifestyle
or
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3
Graphics card is a bit dependent on screen resolution, for a 17"-19" a 9600gt or 3850 512mb will be fine graphics wise, heck I'm running on an old 7900gs with some pritty high settings
for 20-22" a 8800gt 512mb or 3870 or better will be fine for these games.
The key is often to shop around, and when buying off ebay always check the retail prices, far too often I see things going for far too much on ebay, esp as new tech comes out the stuff the was top end drops in price.
One thing to remember is that we had a bit of an oddity with graphics cards, when the 8series geforce and 2000series ati came out they were not much better than the 7/x1000 series they replaced.
(please note that both the 8800gt and 8800gts 512mb were actually based on a new chip and don't really belong in the 8 series) -
Also defrag your hard drive after it's done all the patching.
the updater has the bad habit of seriously fargmenting all the pigg files (pigg files are the compressed game files) this can cause problems especially when loading new zones -
This fault mainly effects laptops, it will in theory effect graphics cards (8300GS to 8600GTS) but to a lesser extent.
Not just because PC's have fewer on/off cycles but also because of the better cooling you get on graphics cards compaired to laptops.
The original 8800gts gtx and ultra are fine (g80 chip) as are the new 8800gts 512mb, 8800GT and 8800GS (g92 chip)
If you had a gaming laptop, well opps, you're up poop creak and that's your paddle floating away.
if you bought a 8300-8600gt for gaming, why did you bother? they are pritty pants to start with. -
I have a sonic/elec at 42 (I think) and a dark/sonic at 40
The sonic attacks are great vs single targets if you can put up with the sound effects, they do a good chunk of -res so chain together 3 or 4 attacks and you can do some good damage.
Sonic Primary, is great esp at the eairly/mid levels. Blasters in the hollows should love you if they have any clue
In the later levels they tend to get weaker/less important
Although you'll work great with any def based sets and will turn an ice/ tank into an unstoppable killing machine and regen scrappers into even more unstoppable killing machines.
One great power that other team members often miss/don't realise the advantage of is the large sonic bubble, not so much for the resistance boost but the immoblise&stun&hold protection (it can be quite funny watching people chrage out of my bubble to suddenly stop dead in a hold or do an impression of a chav on a friday night.)
The problem I've had with my sonic/elec is that once a team is bubbled you've not got much else to do but blast, which is fine eairly on.
However in the late 30's-40's defender damage output really falls off (reason being two fold, lower base damage at high lv and ever increaseing mob hp) which leaves my feeling a bit of a 5th wheel and not that helpfull. (esp when many people tend to be able to survive with the res buff at that stage)
One other thing I will note here is one of the reasons I went for elec is the pet, I can throw it out and let it shoot things while I bubble the team. usefull in the later levels as no one hold still/waits for you to bubble everyone so often have to do it in the middle of a fight. Just wish the pet would stick around longer.
If I wanted to go through it all again I think I'd go for sonic/archery, you don't have that much sonic recasting to do to be badly effected by the bow draw animation and it has the major bonus of a nova/big attack that doesn't flatturn your end causeing all you toggles to go down and stay down untill you can get your end back. -
It's late in the night I cannot sleep so
Bunny bond scan
Yes it's been a while since I've done any real drawing and I'm a bit rusty.
Bunny Bond was my 3rd atempt at a regen scrapper, I couldn't get on with the set the frist two tries.
The whole cossy is basicaly a 1940s pinup in a gimp suit.
After a quick clean up and throwing on some colour
I've just taken out the pencil marks corrected a couple of minor much ups (but kept my wobbly inking) and simple colour pallet to match a 1940's comic feel.
It could be better but what do you expect from 5am
Before anyone comments on the figure work, yes it's a copy of a Pinup by George Petty from 1943 -
The quick answer is it's damage resistance bubbles.
But you don't see many bubbler defenders ether
I'd recomend playing a sonic defender, while not so good as other defenders to solo (as most of the powers are team buffs)
They do have a noticeable effect on teams:
At low lv the unenhanced buff of the bubbles is very noticeable on all toons (20% res base number)
At later levels an ice tank, SR scrapper or regen scrapper becomes godly with a sonic defender behind them. Although res based toons (eg invun) gain far less as they will be capping there res.
Squishies will still notice the bonuses though and your large bubble will give them hold&stun protection so many lack, with a single target CM type power for other effects (also great for thoes pesky nightwidow smokebombs)
Don't neglect your attacks if you play a sonic def as once you've got the team bubbled you will not have much to do for the next 5min execpt blast stuff
For a secondary I'd mix it with Psi, elec, dark for there controlling effects or sonic for the added res debuffs and control.
If you want some advice/more info on each of the powers then have a look at Xanthus's sonic guide -
Running 2 leadership toggles start to put a big dent in end.
So will the AoE attacks in archery.
if you focus on the single target attacks you should be able to get away with it, although dropping a single end reducer on a end heavy click can go a long way to reduceing problems -

Twilight grasp has a 20 second duration and a 8 second recharge for a -50% regen. With a 2 second activation that means if you have a single recharge in it you can get -100% regen.
[/ QUOTE ] Not sure about that.
General note, the debuff on all powers; the same effect, from the same power, from the same person, dose not stack.
EG if you shoot a mob with dark blast, he gets a -9.375%acc debuff, if you shoot him a 2nd time before it's worn off they do not stack so it's still at -9.375%acc debuff.
However if a 2nd /dark also shoots the same mob they will stack.
As well as the debuff from gloom will stack with the one from darkblast.
So I'm not sure that twlight grasp -regen will stack, although it would stack with fluffies one to give you -100%regen -
Oh great there goes the neighbourhood.
I mean Welcome back Rock -
One thing to remember is that contollers don't hae any control over there pets like thw MM's do.
For good soloing at all levels go with a scrapper (they are probably the cloest hero AT to a brute) or a Scrank (a tank built for damage and not agro control)
Yes there are other AT builds that can solo well however most of them have "sticking pionts" (often around lv15-25) where solo can be very hard compaired to a scrapper or Scrank.
I found controller is closer to a dominator in play than a MM. There is no real equivelent to the MM in heroes (although for shear numbers of pets an ill/storm controller is probably cloest) -
Well Jest I think you've left on a high note by setting a record for makeing LLOD'ers post on the offical forum
-
Arrr Jes sad to see you go
That night in manchester was fun, lets just say herding cats . . . whilest drunk
you know I'm starting to see a strange correlation between rl and in game here... but with out tp
If you ever get too lonely/board/twitchy you'll know where to find us.
PS E is so going to have a go at you when she finds out about this -
If you can time your dominations right you don't miss the powerboost that much, as it boosts the effect of holds not the damage.
Psi is rather weak, as Valkryst has said in PvE most mobs that resist it have 50% res, the other sets are more commonly resisted but they do more damage so will often still out damage Psi on the same mob.
That said Psychic Shockwave is a lovely and powerfull attack that can rip large groups of mobs to shreads in seconds
While I don't know the debuff numbers on smoke, it's reduced visability is useful and combined with a simple "stealth" effect power (such as Super Speed) it will make you near invisable to mobs.
It's also a very team friendly power, a MM can get his pets far closer to a smoked mob, any def based Brutes and stalkers will apreacheate the extra -tohit (or at least they should) -
Somehow I expect blade assault to be more of paired knives/some form of funky bladed weapons. That would give you both the range (thrown) and melee (slash) attacks that are common to all the assault sets.
And while disarm might be a nice idea, let's face it, it's not going to work within the environment of CoX. The current game mechanics just don't support such a mez.
Doesn't Grav have an attraction power? Wormhole, which sucks mobs in then tp's them.
A knockdown suck in patch would be evil esp if you could combine it with a damage&slow patch like caltrops, -
The major weakness in the psy assault set is the lack of a boost power, ice&energy both have a boost that effects mez duration, fire has a damage boost that will also effect fire primary and spines has an accurecy boost.
The damage amounts are low for psi esp on the ranged attacks, but every dom's ranged attacks are weak, it's the melee ranged attacks that do the damage.
The real crowning glory to psy assault is the last power, which is a devistating PbAoE which can realy chew through groups of mobs. -
Thanks MaX, I should of known that you'd come in with the figures.
Looks like my memory isn't that faulity as I was pritty close.
How big is your database of CoX info now?
