Babs, I think this is a terrible idea. I've PM'd you a full explanation.

    2. It uses the Warcraft IP, Blizzard's most popular property
    3. Blizzard literally throws money at the game
Also, the game is constantly fresh - players at every level of play (not character level, but super casual to super hardcore) are constantly being given more to do. Their quests have an amazing level of variety. It isn't that they're amazing feats, but it ends up being all the little things that make so many quests slightly different. For exmaple: a fishing daily question. You need to attract some fish attracted to blood. So you kill an animal, "wash off" the blood in water, that creates a little bloody pool where you jumped in. You fish that bloody spot, you get the right fish.

It's those little things that distinguish each quest from clicking a glowie.

Then there's the dungeons, which are pretty comparable to a Task Force, except with a wider variety of mechanics. Only a few fights in CoH - end of ITF, the Four Horseman in the LGTF, etc, have really "different mechanics", and (almost?) none of them have mechanics you can't just overpower with a sufficiently strong group.

And then there's the raids. Lag-free, challenging activities that take 25 good players, and are still HARD. (And scaling up to where you literally need 25 really excellent people, all playing nearly error-free for the duration of an encounter.)

To say nothing of the PvP, which seems amazingly well balanced considering how the powers are essentially the same as the PvE versions.

Granted, this is a game they spent maybe 75-90M$ developing, and then it became a monster hit, far beyond what anyone would have expected - even the most optimistic Blizzard fanboy would never have predicted 12M subscribers, with 35M+ people trying the game over time. But rather than rest on their laurels, the game has been made drastically better over time as they listened with a deft ear to their players. (Despite all that was good about it, I found it nearly unplayable in it's first couple years.)

I do think it's true though that there are only a handful of companies that could have pulled it off, no matter how good their game was. Blizzard being one of them. The only company I can think of with a comparable clout - and even they are not as strong as Blizzard - is Bioware, and I am pretty sure their MMO will be the next one to break into the millions, and stay there.

The actual resistance logistics messages would be encrypted and even AFTER being translated, they would look more like leetspeak. Why? Because leetspeak allows for more BREVITY, and when you're sending sensitive data, the SHORTER you can make the message, the LESS chance it can be intercepted as actual data instead of normal power grid fluctuations
Many types of encryption require padding short messages up to larger block sizes. A minimum of 128 bits are needed for a block in AES, for example, and then if the message is very short additional blocks might be needed to make the actual encryption mechanism resistant to side-channel attacks. (Which do not actually crack the encryption but use flaws in the use of the encryption to recover or mathematically reduce the possible keyspace).
  4. I have a 50 Stone Brute, and I wouldn't mind seeing it go, per se. I actually think you did a pretty nice job with the current one, and I don't dislike it - but if there was something that was also good, and had other benefits (a la customizability), I'd be glad to use that instead.

Yeah, you know, I was thinking - I've paid NCSoft like $2000 for this game now so far. If I want to go check out I16 early, I should just get to.

And they should send *me* cookies.

I'd say enemies are not balanced, period. Villain groups are drastically easier or harder at almost every level.

Compare Vhazilok to Hellions, or Malta to Praetorians.

Which isn't to say the OP has a good point or not - but the idea that there's some finely tuned balance that could be disrupted is almost absurd.
  7. Maybe this thread should be unstickied.
  8. Nice. It's amazing what someone with a plan and the will to execute it can do.
  9. Anyone tested whether these do or do not stack for the def(all) portion?
  10. And this is 2 yellow dots? ugh.
  11. Well, new forums are doing ok. But the servers seem to be absolutely melting under the strain of double xp weekend. Mapservered constantly, lag, disconnects. First time I've really tried to play in like 3 months. I am making sad panda face at you, ncsoft.
  12. I want my viewcount back. I think I was into the top 5 most viewed non-sticky threads.

    Competing flippers drive prices down.

    [/ QUOTE ]

At first I wanted to argue with this, but then I thought it through some more and realized that you're probably right depending on just how competitive the flippers are and one of the flippers doesn't get driven out when it appears that prices are rising.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Speaking as a marketeer who has had his niches exposed, he's not probably right - he is demonstrably right. It is easier to make exorbitant profits when you are the only person dealing in a given item.

One of the big excuses I heard for not taking it before was that it was hard to target the dead body and then most of the mob is dead anyways

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have my z key on my warshade bound to

    /targetcustomnext enemy defeated

So targeting corpses is easy. I'll often fire off one attack, and while it is animating, I'll be tabbing through corpses. (Or, occasionally, targeting an enemy I know will die from this attack, planning to explode his corpse)
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Yep, respec is a must. Thank goodness I have a freespec from the vet rewards... gonna burn it tonight I think.

I say, how do Warshades manage without Stamina? "Human mode" is an absolute nightmare without it. Teleporting eats the blue bar pretty damn quick; the Cloak of Shadows + Superspeed + Shield squishes your Recovery...

Also, I heard somewhere that while Stamina bonus does not apply while shifted, Health bonus does. That true?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm tempted to just say "not true", but I can't say I've checked the real numbers display lately or done any testing. But the health power always "shut off" when shapeshifted.

As for endurance - stygian circle. Kill stuff fast, stygian, repeat. At higher levels, you also get a full bar of end if you Eclipse several guys at once. I'm re-using eclipse every ~80-85s. Useful, especially if you're up against one of those crappy enemy times with poofing corpses. (Warshades admittedly have issues against some types of rularuu, ghosts, and others that don't leave corpses)
  17. [ QUOTE ]

It's my understanding that Health helps offset the drain of Gravitic Emanation...

    [/ QUOTE ]

The dmg from inky aspect (grav em doesn't do dmg) is extremely negligible. You have >1000 hp, and it's doing like ticks of -4. You seriously just won't even notice. Very much not worth a power choice for that reason.

Looks good. Not great, but good. But then the City Traveler is going to be hard to beat. The Fog of War Reveal will help with my OCD about uncovering zone maps. Hopefully, it's permanent.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This is all good for outdoor areas, but I wouldn't WANT to reveal the fog of war of many instanced maps, as when I'm trying to locate that last glowie/enemy to defeat, close check of the fog is important.
  19. I'd love to know how many people actually qualify for the 63 month badge on the first possible day. (Which, I think discount bugs, would be 7/27?)

My main account has had an uninterrupted subscription since the 3-day pre-order head-start. (My 2nd account is about a month behind)
  20. [ QUOTE ]

Of course I can. I walk away all the time. People are trying to make the killing go faster. That's the goal. We want more dead stuff. If you want easier but less dead stuff go Stone. I actually prefer it to be harder. The harder stuff is more fun, interesting and engaging to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

OT - but you should try a fire/en Blaster.
  21. Recharge. I'd say accuracy, but I picked up like 90% accuracy without even trying. +dmg, not really an issue because the mires make the set bonus +dmg boosts less important.

My Warshade has +191.x% global recharge (with hasten up, which is perma and then some). It's just completely awesome.
  22. At 50, with a purple build, spawn sizes matter more than teammates.

The only thing a teammate can give you that is of great significance is mez protection.

I'm not against teaming - but I want big spawns 100% of the time. Now I get my wish.
  23. http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...age=0&vc=1

Is my take on this. I've been using this build for quite some time, with one exception:

I removed the extra slots from Antagonize around I12 (whenever Oblit came out and Dwarf mire got the shortened duration/rech) and moved them into Black Dwarf mire, to 5-slot it with Oblits.

    Comments with respect to yours:

    (1) Don't slot EndMod IOs in forms. Perf Shifter %End is just way better because the innate endurance gain is fairly low on them. (Perf Shifter %End is the equivalent of 2.5 SOs in them)

    (2) By going res+res+res/def in black dwarf, you can softcap its +resist factor and still get the 3% defense. 3% defense is pretty nice mitigation as a half-IO effect. (Since you still get half of a +resist value too)

    (3) All those slots in stygian are just overkill.

    (4) imo, because you only use it every ~30s, oblits in sunless mire (human) aren't a good investment of slots. When fully IO'd, 2xRech gets you the rech, and accuracy and +rech bonuses can come from other sets.

    (5) May as well get grant invis instead of stealth, since stealth and shadow cloak don't stack; it's one or the other

    (6) For that matter tho, you may want to "find a way" to slot 5x LotG. My build gets +191% global rech (with hasten up, which is always), and it is a gross and wonderful thing. You could ditch swift and health to pick them up. Neither power, nor the numinas IO, is even remotely necessary.

    (7) As you can see in my build, I am a bit proc-happy with the dwarf melee attacks. With 191% recharge, you get to spam strike-smite-strike-mire, or strike-smite-strike-drain, nonstop. Period. They're pretty fast attacks, and the double-proc in strike means a lot of chances for extra proc dmg. I find that dwarf form, with all the buffs, its mez protection, the boost it got in I13 or whatever, and the procs, with all that recharge, just feels very, very strong. You're really short-changing it of slots and good sets in your build, and I think you'll regret it.

Anyhow. I don't think I've ever had as few regrets/qualms with a build as with my Warshade.

Here's a demo of her in action, vs a 5-man/Unyielding nemesis mission, dropping 4 full spawns in 1:18:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7zgHzdjwEA

The playstyle has changed slightly because of the detoggle changes, but you are a lot safer doing this with other types of enemies now with the dwarf-form being usable during mez.

I'd estimate I spent 600-800M on this build total, and everything was a hell of a lot cheaper when I made it. (I put 90% of this together the same issue Purples came out; since then the only significant change was when Dwarf Mire was changed and I slotted it with Oblits)
