The Million Dollar Warshade

So here's my first go at a TriForm Warshade. I know it will cost me an arm and a leg, but I'm no stranger to painful exercises in Inf accumulation.

I'm sure the build is deficient in more in one way, so please have at it. Don't pay too much attention to slot levels...

Hmmm... personally, I'd replace Stealth for Grant Invisibility (for making your fluffy pets or team-mates invisible so they too can stealth-up to enemies), and in your teleportation powers, I'd slot some Knockback Protection and Slow Resistance IO's.

Also with the amount of added accuracy you've amassed, I think you can safely replace the one Accuracy IO in Black Dwarf Antagonize with a Chance for Psi Damage and thus turn the power into a, highly unreliable but free, AoE minor damage power. Plus, it's really always funny to see a Boss get defeated by being taunted!

That's about it for now, I'll drop in later if I have any other ideas...

The build looks very good to me.

Not many pool powers, no attempts to make it anything but a fighting machine.
The pain of agreeing with xenite may kill me but you do need at least one KB ressist IO. :P

Additionaly I would do less frankenslotting on alot of the powers and get more from the main sets your using as I believe the set bonuses end up better than the few percentage points you get from crossing over sets.

Honestly, the only thing I would probably do diferently is slot the Gravity Well with your Hecatome set (the amount of recharge in Heca allows you to perma hold bosses and the damage in human form is beautiful.) and use ToD or Makos in the dwarf attack, slot an extra slot into Absorbtion for the KB ressist IO and slot a stealth run or jump IO into one of your sprints. Otherwise very nice build indeed.

If you PL'd to 50 just to get an "epic" thinking you'd be ber, you're going to be sorely disappointed with the HEATs, because the VEATs were designed so that anyone with one good finger and a braincell can rock the toggles.

Forgot to ask: how's Quasar? I'm fond of PBAoE nukes from the days of blastering (WITNESS YOUR DOOMMMMM!!!!!), but whereas for a blaster the nuke is often a signature power, is it perhaps too situational for a warshade?

Posted

BWAHAHAHAHA. ..ahem..ok.
5 slotted Obliteration in Quasar :20 million influence

4 slotted Obliterationx2 in Mires :40 million influence

Double mired nuke that turns entire groups of mobs to smithereens, up every 90 seconds. :Priceless.

Anything still alive is being killed by your 2-3 fuzzy balls of DOOOOM, all you have to do is soak up the remains with your Stygian Circle blotter as your leaving to pounce on group 2 with a quick Gravity Well kill (slotted for damage not hold) then Unchain Essence the poor unsuspecting bastards into oblivion before your second mire runs out. Your literaly onto group 3 before they can blink with full health and endurance.
Not situational at all IMHO.

You know what? It's probably awesome, but I never bothered with it... I probably should find some way to take it... but the problem, as always, isn't really taking the power, but rather finding the slots for it.

All right then!

Firstly thanks for very good advice. After some agonizing slot movement, I've changed the build some.

Highlights:

- Slotted Gravity Well with Hecatomb
- Moved a slot from Dark Extraction to Absorption
- Moved a slot from Black Dwarf to Sunless Mire
- Changed enhancements in Black Dwarf Mire and Sunless Mire
- Added KB protection and Slow resist.
- Of course now it's even MORE expensive, yay.

Here we go:

Is my take on this. I've been using this build for quite some time, with one exception:

I removed the extra slots from Antagonize around I12 (whenever Oblit came out and Dwarf mire got the shortened duration/rech) and moved them into Black Dwarf mire, to 5-slot it with Oblits.

Comments with respect to yours:

(1) Don't slot EndMod IOs in forms. Perf Shifter %End is just way better because the innate endurance gain is fairly low on them. (Perf Shifter %End is the equivalent of 2.5 SOs in them)

(2) By going res+res+res/def in black dwarf, you can softcap its +resist factor and still get the 3% defense. 3% defense is pretty nice mitigation as a half-IO effect. (Since you still get half of a +resist value too)

(3) All those slots in stygian are just overkill.

(4) imo, because you only use it every ~30s, oblits in sunless mire (human) aren't a good investment of slots. When fully IO'd, 2xRech gets you the rech, and accuracy and +rech bonuses can come from other sets.

(5) May as well get grant invis instead of stealth, since stealth and shadow cloak don't stack; it's one or the other

(6) For that matter tho, you may want to "find a way" to slot 5x LotG. My build gets +191% global rech (with hasten up, which is always), and it is a gross and wonderful thing. You could ditch swift and health to pick them up. Neither power, nor the numinas IO, is even remotely necessary.

(7) As you can see in my build, I am a bit proc-happy with the dwarf melee attacks. With 191% recharge, you get to spam strike-smite-strike-mire, or strike-smite-strike-drain, nonstop. Period. They're pretty fast attacks, and the double-proc in strike means a lot of chances for extra proc dmg. I find that dwarf form, with all the buffs, its mez protection, the boost it got in I13 or whatever, and the procs, with all that recharge, just feels very, very strong. You're really short-changing it of slots and good sets in your build, and I think you'll regret it.

Anyhow. I don't think I've ever had as few regrets/qualms with a build as with my Warshade.

Here's a demo of her in action, vs a 5-man/Unyielding nemesis mission, dropping 4 full spawns in 1:18:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7zgHzdjwEA

The playstyle has changed slightly because of the detoggle changes, but you are a lot safer doing this with other types of enemies now with the dwarf-form being usable during mez.

I'd estimate I spent 600-800M on this build total, and everything was a hell of a lot cheaper when I made it. (I put 90% of this together the same issue Purples came out; since then the only significant change was when Dwarf Mire was changed and I slotted it with Oblits)

Plasma makes a few good arguments.
I personaly like the extra slotting on the stygiancircle myself as the ungodly recharge means it's never unavailable to me and I do use the set bonuses from 5 slotting Efficacy Adapter in it and 5 slotting the same set into Eclipse as I find it provided the acc/recharge I like along with a nice endurance boost, and with just a few mobs it caps my ressists anyways.

Although I only use 1 LoTG in my build I still maintain a quite nice 156% global recharge and managed to do it without dipping into my personaly hated pool powers (not that powers are in short supply compaired to slots but..).

Plasma's advice is sound but right now were down to basicly style preferances, so go the route you think fits your play style best.

If you PL'd to 50 just to get an "epic" thinking you'd be ber, you're going to be sorely disappointed with the HEATs, because the VEATs were designed so that anyone with one good finger and a braincell can rock the toggles.

Great advice there Plasma.

Looked at your build and shifted some more slots. I want to avoid taking "useless powers" - "if it don't do nuttin', it don't go"; therefore I decided to not take Stealth, replace it with Grant Invis and keep Swift and Health.

It's my understanding that Health helps offset the drain of Gravitic Emanation...

You mean Inky Aspect?

Yes, it does, at least for Oppressive Gloom on my /DA scrapper.

If you PL'd to 50 just to get an "epic" thinking you'd be ber, you're going to be sorely disappointed with the HEATs, because the VEATs were designed so that anyone with one good finger and a braincell can rock the toggles.

It's my understanding that Health helps offset the drain of Gravitic Emanation...

The dmg from inky aspect (grav em doesn't do dmg) is extremely negligible. You have >1000 hp, and it's doing like ticks of -4. You seriously just won't even notice. Very much not worth a power choice for that reason.

I don't see how any of the builds posted in this thread would work in game.

You need to put 2 slots in your first 3 powers at level 3 and another 2 slots in your first 4 powers at level 5. You can't wait til you take Nova at 6 to slot these.

Mids will let you but City of Heroes won't.

Yep, respec is a must. Thank goodness I have a freespec from the vet rewards... gonna burn it tonight I think.

I say, how do Warshades manage without Stamina? "Human mode" is an absolute nightmare without it. Teleporting eats the blue bar pretty damn quick; the Cloak of Shadows + Superspeed + Shield squishes your Recovery...

Also, I heard somewhere that while Stamina bonus does not apply while shifted, Health bonus does. That true?

You kill things and fire Stygian Circle. 3 corpses should get you to full health/endurance.

I'm tempted to just say "not true", but I can't say I've checked the real numbers display lately or done any testing. But the health power always "shut off" when shapeshifted.

As for endurance - stygian circle. Kill stuff fast, stygian, repeat. At higher levels, you also get a full bar of end if you Eclipse several guys at once. I'm re-using eclipse every ~80-85s. Useful, especially if you're up against one of those crappy enemy times with poofing corpses. (Warshades admittedly have issues against some types of rularuu, ghosts, and others that don't leave corpses)
