  1. I was in Open Beta, pre-ordered, weaseled into Headstart, then canceled my pre-order.

So I guess yeah, I fell to temptation.

I can safely say CO caused me more frustration and MMO burnout than any MMO I've EVER played, and I played a few. Including Korean grinders.

Emmert and Roper are like a bad comedy act, because they repeat the same jokes they got booed for in the last show. It's shocking to me, because if I made the same mistakes over and over doing my job, I'd be fired by now. These two bastards are still employed and getting paid more than I do, probably.

I could harp on about 9/1 nerf, but others have done that already. Instead, I would ask of the Dynamic Duo why is it that they still live in 2003.

There's been a lot of activity in the MMO world in the recent years. There are highly publicized stories of success and failure (their own included). All it takes is reading, and then not repeating the same mistakes made by others.

    Players don't like nerfs.
    Players hate lengthy tutorials.
Players will solo if they can, but they will team if it pays and it is fun.
Camping, ninja-ing and kill-stealing are infuriating.
Grinding of any kind (collect me 9000 boar livers) sucks if you are catering to Westerners.
Bugs happen, but you have to be very generous with the people who are paying YOU 15 bucks a month to beta-test your unfinished product.

CO commits all of those sins and then some.

That's why my temptation was just that: a fleeting temptation.
  2. Without referencing the comic, Statesman is just a static quest giver that stands in IP, and a damsel in distress in one case.

Well, he also is the "blood, guts and swords, RARR!" big cheese in Cimerora, and joins you for one battle where he can promptly get his azz handed to him by Romans in loincloths and sandals.

In other words, he's very blah. I actually hadn't seen "current time" Statesman until I was a year into the game and did my first STF.

In the comic book, he's a self-righteous, arrogant jerk. Being a godling, he plays by the different rules than everyone else, yet he demands that everyone conforms to his vision. He may not be an obvious tyrant like Recluse, but he is just as domineering towards his fellow metahumans.

True, he IS our Superman, but unlike Superman, he isn't grounded in being "a farmboy from Kansas". He was a mercenary in his former life, and upon gaining the power of Zeus, he embraced demi-godhood with great zest.

Statesman the character lacks both humanity AND humility, and that makes him a very off-putting chap.
  3. Congrats on takedowns!

What mission is the Lord Recluse battle in? Doesn't look like Statesman TF...
  4. Hehe, that's why I said "beat up MOST of us"

I actually meant not a temporary, story-arc disappearance (I ran that one, it was fun), but rather a global "he's gone" hiatus. Preferably with a dramatic pretext (a noble sacrifice, a battle of the gods that goes badly for Ol' Shovelface, maybe getting lost in time) and ominous consequences - passerby muttering "What will happen to us now that Statesman no longer watches the City?" The questgiver in IP could be replaced by someone appropriately distraught and depressed, or a jittery hologram.

It could go a ways towards diluting the usual MMO static-ness. Even if the hiatus does come to an end one day.
  5. Ya know, even if Statesman the Character is our Superman, it wouldn't hurt us to have a "world without Superman" at least for an issue or two.

The way I see it, we're already fourth-stringers (Manticore, who is a third-stringer, can beat up most of us). There are some second-stringers and first-stringers, and Statesman is Zeus in the flesh... I feel all kinds of unimportant all of a sudden...

Now if Zeus in the flesh was gone, a sense of vulnerability would descend upon Paragon (the Isles have an Incarnate, we don't...) and perhaps we'd all feel a touch more significant...
  6. It's just so bloody satisfying to ban someone. Yes, I am a petty and spiteful person. I say Statesman the poster should stay banned.

Statesman the character should be killed off. It should be a suitably glorious death, and he should be forever enshrined in some prominent spot. We could visit him and weep on his grave. At this point he's so irrelevant and largely resented there's no reason for him to stay alive.
  7. Kinda hard to judge with all straight-up IOs or SOs. "Conventional" slotting is a no-brainer. Goal-oriented IO slotting for set bonuses is a whole different kettle of fish.

    Fluffy problem!

I am having an issue with Extracted Essence.

It seems to mostly manifest when I am sidekicked to L49 (i.e. in a Rikti Raid or AE). When I cast EE on a freshly defeated enemy, the animation plays (the body floats up and there is "trademark purple smoke"), but Mr. Fluffy never materializes.

Anyone had that happen? Any idea why?
  9. See, I believe in equivalent exchange to a degree... (+Rep to whoever gets the reference first).

There were times in my Ill/Rad's life when I wanted to tear ALL of my hair out and delete him, except I knew exactly what he would grow into and kept going. Same goes for the Warshade...

The Ill/Rad is an anti-hard target god now... a few months and a billion influence later...

The Warshade will be an AoE god someday... probably ten billion influence later...

I have a blaster too, he still makes me cry inside a little even at level 50...

Scrappers, they just FLOW. From the beginning to the end. There's very little risk. You start strong and finish stronger. And faster than anyone else. Plus, most ATs have to choose their primary and secondary with care and planning for the future. Do I want to crack hard targets? Or perhaps annihilate large groups of scrubs? Hold aggro like a champ? Support and buff?

Scrappers have to choose between Awesome and Awesome+2.

I'm not saying "nerf scrappers", gods forbid, I don't wish nerfs on anyone. But there's no denying that scrappers have easier life than anyone else, and have to give up comparatively little to gain A LOT.
  10. I am a perfectionist in real life, and in-game it gives me great joy to achieve a "perfect" goal (i.e. getting to 1 Billion influence on a character, or perma-ing a power, or tooling a build out to the point where it cannot be improved further).

I don't see myself projecting my real-life persona on my playstyle or AT choice. IMO that's oversimplifying way too much. Though I am a solo player in the game and borderline antisocial in real life, so I guess that's translates.
  11. This has always been a City of Scrappers.

Many other ATs can do what scrappers do, and sometimes do it better.

But scrappers "flow" much better from beginning to end than any other archetype. That, plus top-notch endgame performance, equals popularity.

Scrappers are a 100% broken AT (all reward and no risk), but to nerf them would mean driving away a gigantic chunk of the playerbase.

    Help me...

    ... for I am dumb.

My Warshade has 9000+ MA tickets.

I want to try and roll up 2 LoTG +Recharge from them. Any level will do, but obviously the lower the better.

I tried studying the wiki but for some reason I can't quite suss the rolls out. It is infuriating, and I feel like a complete moron.

As far as I understand, I should be rolling Gold Class Recipe Roll 30-34 for the lowest cost that gets me a chance at LOTG. But I'm not at all sure.

Anyone want to help me be sure?

In reciprocation, if I do end up getting what I want, I will spend the rest of the tickets on rolling common salvage and sell it all for 1 inf...
  13. So I'm toying with the idea of finally making my first scrapper. How is Kat/WP? I want it to be a concept character, but I also want it to be strong.

Money, as always, isn't an object.

I'm also contemplating DB/WP, but I heard that DB/ is a gimp set.
  14. Wow, this thread is STILL going?

For those looking for nerfs: nerf-o-rama is closed until about Christmas. The dev team is not so naive as to introduce anything that could force a large segment of population to look the other way.

Aside: this is eerily similar to the "Warlocks need 2b nerfed!" threads I used to see on WoW forums...
  15. I'd go with Run too. Or BOHICA as close second.

On my dusty Bots MM, the first-tier bots were named Bobik, Zhoochka and Tuzik (common names Russian give to small mutts); protectors were Mudak and Kozel (a rather dirty Russian equivalent of "dumb" and "dumber"), and the assbot was Volkodav ("wolf strangler", word used to refer to large and scary mixed-breed dogs).
  16. Any wolf counts towards the badge. So just kill the wolf packs until you get the badge.

And Vampyri are also plentiful in Striga. I believe the area they hang out it is called The Bog, but only come out at night.
  17. Illusion: best controller primary.

    Radiation: best controller secondary.

    The rest is a no-brainer.

    Welcome to teh Interwebz?..

    Ahhem...

    Anyway...

I only have a Warshade right now, so I can't speak for PB. Warshades' power is a function of how many enemies you have. You fight a group, and you have a chance of impressively beating them into a pulp. You fight one-two tougher guys, and suddenly it takes forever.

    Oh, and another thing.

Kheldians are meant for teamplay. It's disgusting, but it's also true.
  19. Is this some kind of a reverse-psychology attempt at GAINING rep?
  20. They should instead have the autocensor replace the cusswords with less offensive equivalents.

That way we can talk about pee pee, poo poo and Jerk van Gay.
  21. Be thankful that FBI isn't knocking down your door. The could be, if this was WoW, ya know.
  22. Christ.

It used to be that the highest-end purples went for no more than 100M. We're talking Apocalypse and Hecatomb here.

I16 can't get here soon enough. Please, please gives us a way to set team sizes so that the farmers can get out of AE and start harvesting salvage and purples again...
  23. I bought the Science Booster for one reason only: the "cosmetic surgeon".

The coolest thing I have done for my main character was to make his "civillian clothes" costumes half a foot shorter than the "superhero costume" (Extor is 7' tall when wearing spandex, but 6'5'' when he's rockin' the civvies).

It's a tiny change, but to me it was worth both the dollars and the influence spent. Now it actually feels like a transformation when I switch costumes.

What is your "coolest" application of Science Pack?
  24. All the jubilation, and nobody stops to think that this may come as a package with one or another nerf for MMs.

Justification: MM pets now zone with owner. It more than makes up for <insert the nerf herd of the month here>.

I don't WANT to see MMs nerfed (I have a very dusty bots/traps somewheres), but considering how much hate they attract, this might be one of those buff+nerf deals.
