Thanks for all your hard work.
It´s been a real pleasure. I´m really going to miss COH -
I can´t thanks you and the other Devs enough. You´ve created a fantastic game where our imaginations could run wild.
The entire COH community is without equal!
I´m really going to miss you.
Thanks -
What a huge loss!!!
I´ve loved the game since I got into it six years ago.
One of the things I´ve come to enjoy and appreciate most is the community, both in the game and on the forums. The friendliness and helpfulness of everyone has been much appreciated.
I´m really going to miss you guys -
A is my favorite of the bunch, but E does come close

As kangaroo mentions, tanking the ITF isn´t easy with all the defense debuffs flying around.
A couple of tricks which can help...
Enhancement boosters. I´ve used these a lot. Together with a bit of overslotting (two extra slots) and the cardiac alpha can got my elec tank to 90% res against smashing & lethal damage. Alternatively the 3% resist proc from the PvP set would help, but too expensive for many (including myself).
This may be frowned upon, "wasting" two extra slots. It´s well worth it in my experience. In several builds I´ve used far slots chasing defense bonuses. And increasing smashing/lethal resistance fro 80% to 90% halves the amount of damage received. That is well worth the 2 slots! (and boosters etc)
Power sink, especially when franken-slotted to enhance recharge and drain, can make a huge difference.
Knock-down. Gives you extra time while the heal and power sink time are recharging.
Once your tank is level 50 and you do have your build finished complete with bonuses, the survivability will be much better too.
The last suggestion has absolutely nothing to do with building/slotting. Try to encourage the team to work, well, as a team. With the advent of IO´s and soft-capped defenses, the survivability of AT´s has skyrocketed. I´m a huge fan of them. The down-side is that various team-members can have a tendency to charge off on their own eg. most of my own scrappers
When the team´s working well together, getting buffed, keeping enemies on debuff patches, not killing debuff anchors as fast as possible and so on, the whole teams survivability improves.
I do realise that most of this is self evident to many players. Even so, teams do end up splitting up for various reasons.
Hope this helps.

Hi Kangaroo,
I´d be very interested in seeing what you came up with for your Elec/TW tank.
Like I said, I have been playing around with a variety of builds, but going for melee/ranged seemed to be very slot hungry and left very few options for trying other slotting er. slotting 2 -20% res procs. On a very good day Midgard Maiden can get -70% res stacked on an enemy... it seems like a great idea in theory, I´ve no idea just how well it´s going to perform in reality.
On my other Elec tank, I´ve had great experience with being softcapped to S/L. It´s not really been a problem not being soft-capped to ranged. All the nasty secondary effects that will be hitting like mezzes, slow and sapping can Elecrtic tanks pretty much ignore. On top of that, the incarnate abilities (especially the extra heal) make him very tough to take down.
Cheers. Pit Viper aka @ Crash Induktion -
Thanks a lot for the great feedback.
I had a good long look at kangaroo´s build before I made a start on this one. This´ll be my second electric tank, my first is superstrenght and is softcapped to S/L and has 90% res in S/L/E with the aid of some overslotting and judicious use of endurance enhancers. He´s very, very tough, and is one of my favorite characters. His build is on the forums somewhere too. I started designing the build for Midgard Maiden before having played around with Titan Weapons, so i was unsure as to which powers were essential. So thanks for the inspiration there.
I chose physical perfection because of the extra help managing endurance it gives, and it isn´t demanding on slots. With all the slots I´ve put into brawl and kick, there wasn´t a lot left over.
I used the Multi-strike set in lightning field because it gives decent accuracy, damage and most of all endurance reduction. It also gives a defense bonus which helps her hit the softcap to S/L without defensive strike.
I´d quite like the Gladiator 3% proc. If you sent one to my mail, I´d be sure to use it(Actually, it´d probably end up in my elec/shield scrapper instead because of the changes to Enzymes - but don´t let that stop you sending one!) It would help save some slots definately. The slotting, though not perfect, still gets the most out of the powers.
A very good catch with regards to the 4th slots in weave and maneuvers, they weren´t doing a great deal. They ended up in energize.
Thanks for your ideas New Dawn. I did seriously consider slotting a quad or triple IO instead of Hami-O´s. I ended up keeping them after the other changes. Without the accuracy bonuses from IO sets, I wasn´t very happy with the accuracy of the powers. Hami´s helped there.
Thanks again for the feedback.

It´s time to start planning my next build. I´ve really enjoyed playing electric armour on a tank, especially when it´s backed up by some sort of defense.
With that in mind I started an elec/TW tank, the defense given by defensive sweep makes a huge difference to survivability at lower levels, before IO sets can help.
I started off trying to build for melee defense. The downside of this was having to use so many slots to do it, effectively reducing flexability in the build... such as slotting the fury of the gladiator -res proc and achilles heal -res proc.
The extra slot in charged armour is going to be used to slot the tank ATIO proc some-where-or-other. Is there any information yet as to where best to put this? Does it have to be an attack that is used, or will any do, brawl for example.
This is what I´ve got so far. I´d really appreciate any feedback you can give.
Thanks in advance Pit Viper @Crash Induction, Union

Thanks for your feedback Syntax.
I know you´re a big fan of getting defense close enough to the softcap whereby one purple inspiration will get you there, or failing that team buffs. It is quite an appealing idea, not to mention an awful lot cheeper.
My experience with the trials so far is rather similar to Werner´s... it´s very easy to get separated from the rest of the team. And while I do happily use inspirations, I´d rather not be dependent upon them.
My primary build, which I posted recently, has a completely different focus... enough recharge to run the top DPS attack chain. The secondary build here was designed for survivability on the incarnate trials, but I do want it to be playable too. If the build can run the Blinding Feint - Attack Vitals attack chain, then additional recharge isn´t actually going to improve it´s performance. Which is my main question... is it playable?
Normally I´d never invest more than 3 or max 4 slots in Stamina. The intention in this case was getting the set bonuses. The same goes for Maneuvers slotting. It´s not optimal, but it does serve it´s purpose; it gets me to the new soft-cap. -
I´ve been having a look at some of the newest threads on the forum... more specifically getting SR scrappers to the "new soft-cap" of 59% def.
I´ve run a fair few trials now, with my tanks, and after several severe beatings i´ve been reconsidering my options for my SR scrappers. With that in mind I´ve been working on a secondary build for Aether, this time focussing pretty much entirely on survivability, and not on recharge/DPS. It´s definately affordable; there´s not a purple or PvP IO in the build.
I could use some feedback as to whether it´s gonna be playable? Is it gonna be possible to run a reasonable attack chain with this build? Has anyone done the trials with a soft-capped toon? Does it actually make a difference, with all the enemies buffs etc, I don't know how much it will actually help.
This is how it´s looking so far:

I´ve done some tinkering with the build to reduce endurance consumption.
It still burns endurance like there´s no tomorrow, but it does do decent aoe damage.
Any suggestions as to how I can improve recovery or cut the endurance costs of powers?
Here´s how my current build looks, except for the Gladiator -res proc.Is the proc gonna be worth the investment?
Thanks in advance. @SCALLYWAG, union

Thanks for the great feedback so far!
So far it looks like the recharge on Blinding Feint as well as endurance are going to be the biggest limiting factors. Can anyone confirm whether the attack chain fast enough as it stands to tripple stack Blinding Feint?
Another thing I was wondering was whether it´s a good investment going for the -res PvP proc in Sweeping Strike? Any idea exactly how much it can improve the DPS compared to a damage proc? It does cost a fair bit, is it going to be worthwhile?
I´ll have a look at what I can do to help with endurance management when I get access to a pc as I use mac at home.
I could be persuaded to sacrifice 1000 cuts and another power to get the power choices and slots I´d need to get aid self. Is it a good way to go for the new incarnate TF´s?
Thanks again.
@SCALLYWAG, union -
I´m getting around to getting all my level 50´s slotted up with their alpha slots. At the moment I´m working on my DB/SR scrapper. I´ve been looking at the forums, particularly some of the older posts about the top attack chain for dual blades (thanks Shred Monkey and Werner for the inspiration/putting bad ideas in my head
).
I hadn´t considered even trying to get enough recharge out of my build for the top chain. Whilst I do like getting as much performance as I reasonably can, I´m not a fan of grinding for the really expensive recipies... I´m too much of an alt-oholic.... but this was before the advent of hero merits and incarnates.
Nowadays it´s a doddle getting 5 LotG uniques. And the alpha slots can really improve the performance of a toon. With that in mind I´ve been trying my hand at building a toon with the top attack chain for DB, using Ablative Strike, Blinding Feint and Sweeping Strike.
This is waht I´ve come up with so far. It looks like I should be able to triple stack Blinding Feint in theory, but can I? Is there other stuff I should change to improve the performance for PvE and TF´s and incarnate trials?

Incidentally, I´ve found Shiver to be a good choice from the epic pools, it´s a huge cone which debuffs the enemies recharge by 50% or so and gets their attention. It gives another layer of mitigation to what is allready a very tough build.
It´s also a great choice if you´re slot-startved... it works just fine with it´s base slot.
Have fun.

Hi WolfWings.
This is my current build. He´s softcapped to S/L and i´ve improved S/L res as much as possible without investing in the PvP unique. S/L res is 85.7%. I´ve found the build to be very tough and he does a boatload of damage to boot.

Sounds like some definate improvements.
I can take a look now, unfortunately, I´m on my mac at home. I'm looking forward to having a look at it on Monday in my lunch break at work.
Thanks! @SCALLYWAG, union -
Thanks Elegost.
I´ve done some more fiddling...
I´ve added maneuvers to the build, giving another spot for LotG recharge. I´ve removed sting of the wasp; it was only being used as a mule for a set of kinetic combats. I moved a slot over to combat jumping to slot the kismet unique for the extra accuracy against tough opponents.
The accuracy´s not perfect, but Golden Dragon´s got about 92% to hit against +4, that´s good enough for me.
I still think i´m gonna keep the aegis set in high pain tolerance, but I´ll be getting the spiritual rare alpha slotted. It´ll put me at 2154 hp, just 50 hp or so than if i slotted 2 heal IO´s in it. I think it seems like an ok tradeoff.
Here´s the build mark 6 or 7:

Thanks for all your feedback. There are some very nice builds there.
As I first mentioned, I was in a bit of a quandry as to whether to focus on typed or positional defense.... at least as far as melee or smashing/lethal was concerned. Typed defense was the natural way to go for E/N/F/C.
According to Mids, replacing the set of Aegis in HPT will net me about 120 hp. It's a respectable amount, but it'd drop my defense to F/C from 44.2% (with the alpha slotted). I'm not sure it'd be a good tradeoff, even though, as Claws mentioned, pure fire/cold is pretty rare. It may well become less so in future content.
I was wondering what the best level of accuracy to aim for is, and how the damage output is going to be? How much recharge is needed for the optimum attack chain. How much is needed for a "respectable" one? I was taking a look at Iggy's willpower build. Mids shows his Golden Dragonfly doing over 425 hp damage per activation. I couldn't figure out how he got it so high.
Thanks again for the feedback so far.

I´ve done some more tinkering with the build Exxcalibur came up with. I´ve tried to improve on the E/N/F/C def:

Hi all.
I´m gonna get back to leveling my katana/WP scrapper after a rather long break from him. My goal is to get a very survivable build without the use of purples or expensive pvp recipies.
I have played around with katana before... divine avalanche is absolutely amazing. It really improves the survivability of pretty much any secondary. My only problem with it being that it boosts defense to lethal and melee damage.
Which leads me on to my question. On a katana/WP scrapper, is it best to go for positional or typed defense?
I have put together a build. Am I on the right track? Can I improve the overall defenses? Is it possible to squeeze in the achilies heal -res proc somewhere?
Thanks in advance.

I agree, I find Rock armour to be very survivable once IO´s are in place.
The aim of my latest build has been to get a build where i´ll be soft-capped to S/L/E/N/Psi with Rock & Crystal armour running along with Minerals AND have the toughest build possible with Granite.
I´d like to have my cake and eat it too.... that´s not asking much, is it?
I think I´ve achieved it with my latest build. I didn´t need to resort to getting the expensive PVP IO´s either. The 4 Gladiator IO´s I do have only cost about 20 mill.
He´s up to lvl 43 now and is very tough, but not imortal. The times I´ve faceplanted has usually been because of the Rage crash reducing my defense and starting a cascade failure (on the ITF). At lvl 43 I´ve just got enough recharge to get Rage perma and avoid the defense debuff. It does require that I activate Haste as soon as it´s recharged though. I don´t always manage it in the heat of battle unfortunately... I´m too busy using Footstomp
I´m wondering if it might be better to put more focus on getting even more recharge. It´ll increase the window of oppertunity to activate Haste, for those occasions where I am too preoccupied/dopey to click Haste.
Are there any suggestions about how I can improve Granites resistence, getting them to the cap? Is it do-able?
Thanks for your feedback so far.
@SCALLYWAG -
Well, I´m back...
I´ve done some tinkering with my build and think i´ve come up with something pretty good. I´ve still get a very high defense to everything in Rock Armour, though E/N has dropped to 44.6%, while S/L is still capped.
I will be using a few PVP IO´s, but the price for them is actually very reasonable at the moment (for the ones I want, at least)
In Granite, I´ve managed to get resists capped to S/L and up to 88.6% against E/N/F/C. He still has soft capped defense to S/L/E/N/F/C too.
There is of course a downside. The slotting on rooted has changed. I do loose 5% global recharge and the regen value has decreased a lot.
Is the new build worth it?
Here´s the new build:

Does anyone have any suggestions how I can improve the resistence, or anything else for that matter?
Thanks in advance.
@SCALLYWAG, Union -
Thanks for the feeback Syntax42.Sorry about the delay, I´ve been AFK (and AFMids) for a while.
I´ve been checking out some of the other threads, I can see you´ve a fair bit of experience playing stoners. And that´s a very nice build you have there! Out of curiosity, how much difference has it made to survivability capping the resistence on your stoner? I thought that maybe I was going a little overboard on increasing survivabilty (softcapping defense) on a tank that´s considered the toughest tank in the game. Have you gone up against anything that really threatens your stone tank?
In answer to your question, it is going to ba a force feedback proc in footstomp. I just needed to see how the real recharge times were.
I am trying to create the most survivable tank I can. I´d prefer to do it by using just the one build if possible.
Any tips for increasing the resistences on my stoner?
Thanks -
Well, I finally got around to playing, and sticking with a stone tank. He´ll be my 8th tank now, and experience has luckily given me the patience I need to actually stick at it this time (my 3rd attempt). The city traveller vet award has really helped too; saving 1 power selection and getting TP at lvl 6 was a great help.
He´s level 30 now. I´ve got the 3 sets of Kinetic Combat I need to softcap S/L defense in Rock Armour. It´s made a huge difference to his survivability.
I´m trying to finalise his build and could do with some feedback, this is my first time building a stone tank.
When he gets to lvl 50 I´m most likely gonna slot the Cardiac Alpha, mostly to reduce the endurance costs of Super Strength, which I´ve found to be very endurance hungry, but also to push his resistence ip to, or close to, the hardcap. A bit excessive I know... but VERY tough.
Any feedback/advice you can give me will be much appreciated.
Thanks. @SCALLYWAG. Union
