  1. First off, welcome to the City! You're in luck. We're a few weeks away from getting Issue 16. (Issues are free content updates, like mini expansions.) One of the features it's adding is a revamped character creator, including the ability to preview a power's animations, in addition to power color customization, so you'll be able to see what say, Psionic Tornado looks like before you make the character, and if you don't like it, you can change the colors to something you think looks good.

ParagonWiki is the player-made source for just about everything you might want to know about the game, and if it doesn't have the answer, come ask here, we love showing off knowledge and helping new players. And don't worry about wondering about the other sets. Making lots of alts is a way of life here.

If you do decide to get a paying account, make sure you upgrade your current account rather than making a new one. That way, you'll keep any characters you made on the trial account.
  2. All right, let's say you're right. Let's assume that the tech to do this is available, and that emanation point customization is possible with the current character skeletons. Let's go for one of the simplest examples.

Say I want a sonic blast rifle, where the blasts emanate from the muzzle of the gun. The Goldbrickers and Council provide us with a couple of sonic rifle/cannon models already, so there's no need to involve SexyJay and the costume department. They even have animations for a couple of attacks already, so we only need to change the animations for, say, 7 of the 9 powers in the set.

Even with the best possible scenario, you're asking BAB and the animators to work on 7 animations so that one blast set can have one alternate animation point. This is assuming, of course, that a PBAoE attack like Dreadful Wail won't look incredibly strange coming from the barrel of a gun, and that alternate animations won't be required to make it look right.

Now, let's expand that out, but let's be even more generous. Let's say that all you're interested in is the Blast sets, and that alternate animations/emanations for the Melee, Buff/Debuff, Manipulation, Assault, Control and Defense powersets don't interest you. All you care about are the 10 blast sets used by Blasters, Defenders and Corrupters.

Let's assume, for a minute, that all of these sets are similar to Sonic Blast, in that new/alternate animations for some powers can be cribbed from other powersets and NPC attacks. Let's say that no new costume pieces will be required, that this is strictly a job for the animators. Let's even say that all the animations will look right coming from this new emination point without any tweaking at all. Using this very generous but completely made up math, you're asking BABs and company to work on 700 or so animations so that 3 ATs can have a single alternate emanation point. Do you get it now? Do you realize how comically unrealistic what you're asking for is?
  3. Hallo! I'm Petey, and I'm a lurker/art admirer/collector when I have money (so, you know, basically never).
  4. Projectionist gets my vote this time around.

Oh God, I've done this. Pre-Oil Slick Arrow, it [u]hurts[u]. Bad. That said, on teams, it's very fun and has obscene amounts of control, so I don't think I'd really call it weak, just... situational.
  6. A tank is a large vessel used for holding liquids and gasses...

Oh, look, I can post irrelevant definitions that have no bearing on the game's mechanics too! How fun! Get bent, Butane.
  7. Nice! I love the color scheme on the off-duty outfit especially. I know what my last two costume slots are going to be now.

    Toon names

Lee's Useless Superhero Generator is pretty good, even if it pops up copyrighted names now and then. It even gave me "Ghost Widow" yesterday.
  9. I was paired with Red_Valkyrja, who asked me to do a costume for Molech Ivory, their main villain.

Here's some background info for her:

Molech Ivory came to Earth hunting for her mortal enemy, the last known survivor of his race.

Their two races had been at war with each other for millennia, solar systems apart, raining destruction on each others fleets and home worlds until the surface of both were uninhabitable. Molech had been tracking her enemy from one solar system to the next, it seemed that they were in search of a new, unspoiled homeworld.

Just as her ship was closing in on his, there was a pinprick flash in the blackness of space, that quickly bloomed. Telemetry from her ship indicated a vortex of energy, that originated from her homeworld and expanded so quickly that in the few seconds it took for her data to update, the entire system in which her homeworld resided was consumed. By the next upload of data, her enemy's own system had been consumed, in the next it had already traveled half way to their own position.

When his ship 'jumped' she followed in his wake. The approaching maelstrom affected their travel, even within hyper. By the time they exited they were both hurtling through the atmosphere of an unknown planet. Too worried about her own survival, she lost track of him ship as they plummeted, escaping just before her ship impacted the surface of an ocean with such force that it literally disintegrated.

She has hunted for him ever since.

The theme we got was "modern", and I figured if Molech ever catches up to her prey, she could use a little armor to give her an edge.

Here's another take, a little more, I dunno, official? Formal?

    From the front

Anyway, I love the concept, and I had fun designing Molech a new costume. Hope you like them!
  10. I loved the ideas people came up with in the first one, count me in.

    Roleplay servers

Most people play both sides, but CoH came out two years before they added CoV, so it's got two years worth of built in friends and supergroups people don't want to leave, CoV's graphics are more complex, so some computers just *can't* run CoV, and some folks just don't find being evil appealing.

That said, I *love* CoV. IMO, it's got better stories, better Archetypes, and better flow than heroside. You won't ever have a problem finding people on either side on Virtue, since it's got a big population.

    Roleplay servers

All servers have a larger hero population than villains. Virtue's the second largest server overall, so there are plenty of people on both sides.
  13. Projectionist's take on "Nighthawks" gets my vote, but that was a *hard* pick. Everyone did great stuff this month.
  14. Oh, and when you get a full version of the game, make sure when you apply the serial codes you tell the store to *upgrade* your existing account with it, don't create a new one. That way, you can keep all the characters you made on your trial account.
  15. The Magic Pack's got some great stuff in it, it's well worth the money. Probably a little late now, but if you haven't purchased a version of the game yet, get the Architect Edition. For twenty bucks, it comes with a free month of play and a code for the Booster Pack of your choice, so you could grab the Magic Pack if you wanted. Oh, and welcome to the City!

We can direct them away from cliches that will hinder their writing, but if they want to use them, more power to them. Maybe they'll pull it off and impress us all.

Agreed. As long as we're bringing in TVTropes, two ways to use a cliche to great effect:

Oh please, please stop linking to this TV Tropes website. I'd never heard of it.

How in the heck will I ever finish a publishable arc if I'm spending all my time reading that awesome site! I'm already booked here to Thursday following the Nerf Wars Winery and Cheese Festival highlights. Let alone when am I going to actually play???

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, you know, there's a TV Tropes article about that...
  18. Toughest one yet, but I'll vote for Tacky_Tricky. Amazing lines.
  19. Darkjedi, as you might be able to tell by little things like his name, is male.

This is a Screenshots and Fan Art section on an internet forum, where people post a staggering range of art, from first attempt pencil sketches to commissioned watercolors and renders that can cost hundreds. People are showing off their cool stuff, and most of us have the common sense to realize that. If the professional artist with decades of experience wants his art critiqued, I doubt he'll turn to the "artist drawer" who thinks "lefted" and "pickyer" are words to do it.
  20. Yeah, click their name, and there should be an "ignore this user" option at the bottom. Unfortunately, all it does is hide the text of their posts, it's not like /ignore in-game where they totally disappear. You still see the place where they post, with "you are ignoring this user" in place of whatever they wrote.

Also, great piece, love the boots!
  21. So... much... win. Looks like Sexy Jay really knocked this one out of the park.

    COH Golden Age

As much as the "Nemesis plot" meme is overused, he'd make a fine contact for Golden Age villains, as Brass Monday and the "Emperor of the Americas" takeover would make great trials or SFs, and they'd let villains be part of true "Time to take over the WORLD!!! Bwahahaha!" events, which are kind of lacking in the modern-day Rogue Isles.

Heroes, of course, could help stop him.

If we're looking at new Patron Pools, he'd be a candidate there, too. I'd say the Family would make good patrons as well.
  23. My vote goes to Foo, with Alex in second place.
